Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard is the debut work of the 2006 Man Booker Prize winner Kiran Desai. There are many discussions on the novel from the perspective of ecocriticism, but existentialism in the work has received less attention. This article intends to start with Sartre’s existentialism, expounding how the protagonist Sampath lives in an absurd world, gets rid of the control of others and seeks the freedom he desires in his heart. This paper believes that by shaping Sampath’s image of pursuing freedom, Kiran Desai embodies his exposure to the absurd society of India and her yearning for spiritual freedom.

Man Booker Prize winner, a famous Indian Diaspora writer, Kiran Desai’s The Inheritance of Loss discusses different kind of losses take place by man’s displacement. The characters Biju, Sai and Bela represent the pain and affliction of departers. They are longing for identity and want to create a comfort zone in the alien soil leads them frustrated. Jumpha Lahiri, the Pulitzer Prize winner, put across the same expatriate sensibility in her novel The Namesake. The protagonist Gogol and others Ashoke, Ashima migrate to another country still wants to follow their culture and traditional values there. These novels traced the concept of cultural identity with rootlessness and ancestral expectation. The present paper deals with identity predicament in the basis of cultural conflict through the characters’ strife of unfamiliar terrain.

Aravind Adiga, a Man Booker Prize winner, aims at depicting a realistic picture of Indian society along with its root cause of evil. He attempts to bring the dark side of India over the ‘shining India’. He criticised the moral decadence and lack of basic principles among Indians. In The White Tiger and Last Man in Tower he portrays the power game in metropolis like; Delhi and Mumbai. This paper studies the socio-political realities of Indian society through the lens of power politics. Adiga makes an effort to showcase the experiences which underprivileged Indian people go through their entire lives. This paper also describes how Adiga depicts socio-cultural encounters in India; especially in power-politics, the Caste system, and master-servant society. It demonstrates the colossal fight between the common man and the dominating political issues such as the caste system, democracy and justice. The research depicts the miscarriage of justice, corruption and other alarming issues of contemporary Indian society. Adiga spotlights modern India by comparing India of darkness and India of light. Adiga’s work of fiction unveils the dark web of politics behind the frame of globalisation and development.

Alice Munro (1931—), Canadian author and winner of the Man Booker International Prize in 2009, has written a number of short stories. “The Bear Came Over the Mountain” is a story of love, romantic affairs, family relationship, enigma of romance and psychological disorientation. The story reveals family bond through mental depression and physical inability, which, to a large extent, are traumatic. Munro’s presentation of human relationship and family bond gets a new dimension from psychopathological point of view. The story reveals a bizarre relationship between two unacquainted families, members of which suffer from two different types of trauma: psychic hysteria and physical immobility. Munro shows the effect of such frenzy on individuals as well as on societal connection. This paper attempts to illustrate, from psychoanalytic point of view, the nature of traumatic pathology and its testimony in the lives of individuals and how its outcome can be a major device in understanding human relationship. This paper comprises the sociolinguistic concepts which are hidden in the Aravind Adiga’s novel White Tiger. And it will let us know how Aravind Adiga managed to reach his audience effortlessly. Aravind Adiga is a Man Booker Prize Winner of 2008, for his debut novel ‘White Tiger’. White Tiger is the story of a common man, who manages to attain tremendous success, later starts working as an Entrepreneur. The protagonist, Balram Halwai, narrates this novel, he sends letters to Premier of China, who will soon be visiting India. Moreover, this novel comprises of sociolinguistic elements such as the names are mostly of Indian origin, prestige feature. Aravind Adiga is being chosen as a writer to be tested on sociolinguistic grounds because there is an apt amount of sociolinguistic elements (code switching, high prestige, low prestige, etc.) in his novels. Aravind Adiga reaches the reader's heart, by using appropriate language in the manner his target audience can understand. This paper also verifies the sociolinguistic impact on Aravind Adiga, in the midst of this we realise the importance of sociolinguistic theories. Society and culture play a vital role in our language acquisition, and it shapes our respective roles in society. Ultimately, this can let us know how language variation occurs and impacts the users. Language is like a river, it changes its directions with time, place, communities, etc, and certain meanings avert or change slightly from the original meanings.

"Revisiting Norse Mythology: The Case of A.S. Byatt’s Ragnarök. In 2011, British author and Booker-prize winner A. S. Byatt publishes Ragnarök, her rewriting of the Norse myth about the death of the gods. Seen through the eyes of a thin child who is forced to witness the terrors of World War II, the story and characters of the Norse myth are reinterpreted and retold in accordance with the child’s vision, imagination and feelings. The paper here focuses on the association of the Scandinavian imaginary with specific moments in A. S. Byatt’s personal history, and highlights the use of certain patterns and ideas that are present in both, trying to pinpoint the elements that make possible the transformation of the mythical into the actual. The aim of this study is to explore the evolution of the mythological events as they are rewritten in Byatt’s 21st century book, in close connection with the main character’s personal development. To that end, the paper will also dwell upon the comparison drawn by Byatt herself between the Norse and the Christian mythological imaginary – a vision filtered through the eyes and thoughts of the focalizer of the text, the thin child. The purpose of the work is to consider two trends in the development of the Egyptian novel on the examples of the works by Tawfiq al-Hakim, Yahya Haqqi, Naguib Mahfouz, Abd ar-Rahman ash-Sharkawi on the one hand, and Ibrahim Abd al-Qadir al-Mazini, and Abbas al-Akkad, on the other hand; to trace their development and manifestation in the works by famous contemporary Egyptian authors, winners of the Man Booker Prize − Bahaa Taher and Yusuf Zeidan. It is necessary to point out the main features laid down by the founders of the novel genre, are awareness of national tasks, ideas of national unity, subordination of personal interests to public ones, attention to social problems, and high spiritual content. These features were equally inherent in such works as Return of the Spirit, A Bird from the East, The Lamp of Umm Hashim, Earth and many novels by Naguib Mahfouz. The democratism of these novels, their high moral potential, focus on national themes, and patriotism are noted. On the other hand, the works Ibrahim the Writer and Sarah are considered, where the philosophy of egoism, the opposition of the individual to public interests, the ideas of free love and ‘liberation of the flesh’ are cultivated. Novels that demonstrate these two different tendencies have one thing in common − the influence of an external model, as, for example, in the novel The Writer Ibrahim of M. Artsybashev’s novel Sanin. The continuation of these two directions of the Egyptian novel is demonstrated by the example of the works Love in Exile and The Nabatean.

The article is dedicated to the one of the most famous Afro-British writers — Bernardine Evaristo. In 2021, her book “Girl, Woman, Other” was translated and published in the Russian language. Earlier (in 2019), it had become a winner of the Booker Prize. The authors of the article focus on the problems that primarily concern the writer herself. These include feminism and gender equality, professional motivation and the texture of success, crisis and the search for identity, otherness and dissent, cross-cultural dialogue and existence on the verge of tradition, as well as the theme of the House (with a capital letter), within which, ideally, it is quite possible for representatives of different races, ethnicities and cultures to coexist.Bernardine Evaristo tried herself as an actress, screenwriter, director, radio and TV presenter and uses the experience gained in her literary works. Their genre is difficult to define. The novel “Girl, Woman, Other” is a kind of anthology of women’s experience. Foreign criticism defines it as fusion prose (a combination of the incompatible). It contains the authenticity of non-fiction and the miracles of magic, unobtrusive notes of maternal instructions and mesmerizing rhythms of blues poetry. The author avoids capital letters in her text; there are no main or secondary characters in the book. The author gives her protagonists (there are twelve of them as the number of Christian apostles) the opportunity to recognize their selfness, expand the horizons of their own identity. Together with them — her messengers — she tries to comprehend the meaning of her own existence as a woman, as a person, as another.

The book assists in profound understanding of the development processes of the novel as a genre, and offers a nuanced overview of the annual events around the Booker Prize awarded for the best novel in Russia and the UK. Introducing the book is an article by Sir Michael Caine (1927—1999), who initiated the Russian Booker Prize and chaired its advisory committee. The publication is an extract from the historical essay ‘The Booker Story’. The first section, ‘Twenty five years in the Booker mirror’, opens with a story about the origins and history of the Russian Booker. In ‘Between the two cultures. A story told by documents and reminiscences of the participants (1992—1996)’, Russian Booker’s committee secretary Igor Shaytanov describes it as the first independent literary prize in the new Russia, free of any ties to the state policy. The second section is devoted to the UK’s Man Booker Prize. In his article ‘The British Booker: a portrait of an era’ Alastair Niven describes the events that culminate in creation of a portrait of the British literature spanning fifty years. The book’s third section is titled ‘The chronicle of the Booker events 1992—2016’.

The twelfth novel (“Quichotte”) by the English-speaking writer of Indian origin Salman Rushdie was short-listed for the Booker Prize in 2019. Like many other literary works by the Booker Prize winner of 1981, the analyzed novel testifies to the necessity of following the Goldilocks Principle when resorting to precedent names, culturally-loaded words and loanwords from non-European languages. In order to effectively convey his ideas to the target reader the author juggles with exotic loanwords (84 lexemes), culturally-loaded words (52 lexemes) and over 100 allusions to European and North American texts, persons and phenomena. The exotic loanwords and the culturally-loaded words contribute to the depiction of the place, time and characters; however, the intertextual elements perform an evaluation function and an aesthetic function.

There is a dramatic imbalance of cultural output in the global publishing industry. English-language publishers are disinclined to translate and publish foreign language books as a result of the popularity of English-language books and the high costs of translation. Three per cent is the oft-quoted number that indicates that foreign fiction in translation makes up only a minimal part of the UK book trade. This lack of bibliodiversity may have serious cultural consequences. There are thus several national and international initiatives to promote the publication and cultural capital of works in translation in order to reach a wider audience. Book prizes are generally understood to have a positive impact on the discoverability of a title and consequent sales; winning authors, as well as those on the longlist and shortlist of prestigious prizes, can expect a significant boost in sales of the books in question. But in a culture where translated foreign fiction titles represent only a small percentage of books published, does this phenomenon extend to prizes for translated foreign fiction? This paper explores the—audience-building and sales-generating—impact of the UK’s most prestigious award for literature in translation, the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize (IFFP), in particular in light of the prize’s recent merger with the Man Booker International Prize (MBIP), and speculates whether this may help with the ‘three per cent problem’.

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelusuri strategi simbolis Eka Kurniawan dalam novel Lelaki Harimau. Pisau analisis yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori Pierre Bourdieu yang mengasumsikan bahwa pengarang di dalam arena sastranya dipengaruhi modal dan habitus supaya dilabeli pengarang melalui strategi tertentu. Berangkat dari hal tersebut, bagaimana strategi Eka Kurniawan dalam novel Lelaki Harimau sehingga mampu memperoleh legitimasi di arena sastra Indonesia sekaligus mendapat nominasi di ajang arena sastra The Man Booker International Prize 2016. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Eka mewabahkan eksistensinya melalui habitus dan akumulasi modal pengetahuan sastra yang luas. Hal itu dilakukan dalam upaya sebagai bentuk strategi simbolis Eka untuk mencanangkan posisinya sebagai penulis terlegitimasi spe sik dengan, dapat dikatakan, sebutan “penulis pertama Indonesia yang masuk nominasi The Man Booker Prize”. Kata kunci: strategi, modal, habitus, Eka Kurniawan Abstract This paper tries to trace the symbolic strategy of Eka Kurniawan in the novel Lelaki Harimau. The analysis knife used in this study is Pierre Bourdieu’s theory which assumes that the author in the literary arena is in uenced by capital and habitus so that the writer is labeled through a certain strategy. Departing from this, how is Eka Kurniawan’s strategy in Lelaki Harimau so that it can gain legitimacy in the Indonesian literary arena at the same time being nominated in the literary arena of The Man Booker International Prize 2016? The results showed that Eka made her existance through habitus and extensive accumulation of literary knowledge capital. This was done in an effort as a form of Eka’s symbolic strategy to declare his position as legitimate writer with, it could be said, “the title Indonesia’s rst writer who was nominated by The Man Booker Prize”. Penelope Lively (1933- ), the contemporary British writer, was first known mainly as a children’s writer prior to her winning the 1987 Booker Prize with her widely praised novel Moon Tiger (1987). The Road to Lichfield, published in 1977, is her first adult novel which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Treasures of Time (1979), her second adult novel, was the winner of Great Britain’s first National Book Award for fiction in 1980 and the Arts Council National Book Award. In her literary fictions, Lively interweaves the present and the past -- history, the public, collective past, and memory, the private and personal past -- together with the application of various narrative techniques, such as flashback, stream of consciousness, psychological time, etc. A predominant theme running through her literary world is her consistent focus on history. This essay intend to study Penelope Lively’s understanding and interpretation of history, and draw this conclusion: Although a complete understanding of history is impossible, yet as we realize our subjectivity and misunderstanding of history we can try to understand it in a new way and integrate it into the present life.

Mikhail Elizarov (born 1973 in Ukraine) undoubtedly belongs to the most “bizarre” and controversial contemporary Russian writers (more precisely, he is a Russian and Ukrainian writer). Elizarov is also known as a musician and a songwriter. He is the winner of literary award The Russian Booker Prize (in 2008) for his novel The Librarian (this novel was called one of the most controversial prize-winning novels). Elizarov’s literary works “balance” on the verge of postmodernist and realistic practice; the writer is known for scandalous but intellectual high-energy prose (sometimes he is compared to Nikolai Gogol, sometimes – to Vladimir Sorokin). The purpose of this article is to show and discuss distinguishing features of Elizarov’s prose, to identify central motifs and themes in his selected literary works. The story Fingernails is analyzed in this paper. Special attention is paid to Elizarov’s conception of madness and abnormality, and also to his point of view on relationship between “normal” and “abnormal” (strange, different from what is usual or expected).

Senchin, a writer, journalist, shortlisted entry and winner of numerous literary prizes: Russian Booker (2009), National Bestseller (2010), The Culture Prize of the Russian Government (2012), Yasnaya Polyana (2014), The Big Book [Bolshaya Kniga] (2015), and others. They discuss Senchin’s personal creative experiments and discoveries as well as contemporary Russian prose in general. Senchin opines that modern literature, having digested the experiences of the ‘new realism’ of the 1990s–2000s, has moved on to discover writers’ individual characteristics and harness new subjects, including documentary ones. Given the limitations of the forms and methods of artistic literature, Senchin argues, an unexpected choice of topic, language, intonation or plot comes to the forefront. However, he prefers to stick to recognizable, traditional subjects and recurrent characters. The exploration of the motivations and personality of those characters (the writer Savateev and the office clerk Chashchin) takes up most of the interview.

This issue is focused on reframing analytical categories in ways different from how scholars have used them, and mechanisms of power in juxtaposition to how states intended them. We open with two articles on “Reading in Translation.” Anne-Marie E. McManus's “Scale in the Balance: Reading with the International Prize for Arabic Fiction (‘The Arabic Booker’)” focuses on the International Prize for Arabic Fiction, or IPAF. Founded in 2007 with funding from Dubai and based on the more well-known Man Booker Prize, the IPAF is awarded to one Arabic novel each year. The prize supports that novel's translation into English and catapults it from the national domain into a global marketplace of readers whose reading practices, McManus suggests, have already been shaped by the postcolonial Anglophone novel. Arguing that methods inherited from postcolonial studies are inadequate for addressing these modes of reading and interpretation (i.e., the national and the global), McManus develops a comparative “scale-based method” combining insights from postcolonial and world literary theory and from area studies, which she brings to bear on two IPAF-winning Egyptian novels: Bahaʾ Taher's Wahat al-Ghurub (Sunset Oasis) and Saud Alsanousi’s Saq al-Bambu (The Bamboo Stalk). In her analysis of these literary works, McManus shows us why “a stark either/or between national and world literary frames . . . cannot apprehend the ways in which a movement between them is institutionalized in bodies such as the IPAF, nor can it grapple with the implications for reading.” “Reading with the IPAF,” she suggests, requires instead “a resituation of national frames, institutionally and hermeneutically, within the nodal relation the IPAF represents.”

Abstract This essay addresses J.M. Coetzee’s Disgrace, a Booker Prize winner in 1999. The novel captures South African political and cultural turmoil attending the post-apartheid transitional period. Far from overlooking the political allegory, I propose instead to expand on a topic only cursorily developed elsewhere, namely liberty and license. The two terms foreground the textual dynamics of the novel as they compete and/or negotiate meaning and ascendency. I argue that Disgrace is energized by Coetzee’s belief in a total liberty of artistic production. Sex is philosophically problematized in the text and advocated as a serious issue that deserves artistic investigation without restriction or censorship. This essay looks into the subtle libertinism in Coetzee’s text, which displays pornographic overtones without exhibiting a flamboyant libertinage. Disgrace acquires its libertine gesture from its dialogue with several literary works steeped in libertinism. The troubled relationship between the aesthetic and the ethical yields an ambiguous text that invites a responsible act of reading.

The article presents the results of expressive vocabulary analysis in the novels by a famous British literary critic, poet, prose writer and playwright of the second half of the XXth century, the Booker Prize winner and a university teacher Kingsley Amis. It briefly presents the artistic merits of his works and deals with individual Kingsley Amis’s writing style and the use of lexical ways to express emotions and evaluations when developing the plot of his stunning novels Lucky Jim and Russian Hide-and-Seek. The study shows that the language in the works by Kingsley Amis abounds in assessing words which express positive or negative assessment while featuring characters, their behaviour or different actions, describing the expression of certain emotional states. The analysis reveals, that among the various parts of speech of amplifying words and word combinations used in the novels, verbs and nouns turn out to have the largest number of synonymous groups.

In this review of the novels and stories by the contemporary Russian author I. Bogatyreva, winner of numerous literary awards, including The Student Booker 2016, the critic highlights the principal motifs of her plots, including the motif of travel, pilgrimage, and the search of a certain human common ground: be it age, philosophy, or nationality. The paper also examines the chronotope and the writer’s use of mythological allusions, which permeate both her historical and modern day-based novels, only to conclude that ‘emerging adulthood’, a term from the psychological studies of young adults, is the most apt way to describe Bogatyreva’s prose. That the writer maintains keen interest in the subject is not only because of her role as ‘a real master of innovation in young Russian prose’ (quoted from the blurb on the cover of her prize-winning novel Kadyn), but due to its relevance for contemporary young adult readers, themselves in search of their models growing up and their future destiny.

When the Australian writer Richard Flanagan accepted the 2014 Man Booker Prize for fiction, he said that “As a species it is story that distinguishes us”. While the prize was given for a literary work written in English, Australia and the surrounding regions are replete with a rich diversity of oral traditions, and with stories remembered and told over countless generations and in many languages. In this article we consider both the universality and the cross-cultural and cross-linguistic diversity of various forms of narrative. We explore the question of what a linguistic typology of narrative might look like, and survey some of the literature relevant to this issue. Most specifically, we ask whether some observed differences in narrative style, structure, or delivery could derive from social features of the communities which produce them: their social density, informational homogeneity, and the high degree of common ground they share.

This study analyzes the implicit bias of the Academy Awards and Oscar’s historic lack of gender equity. While there are awards for Best Actor and Actress, a comparative analysis of these awards and the Best Picture prize reveals that a man is more than twice as likely as a woman to receive an Oscar for leading work in a Best Picture. A man is also nearly twice as likely to be nominated as a leading performer in a Best Picture winner. Supporting women in Best Pictures fare a bit better with actual trophies, but, when considering nominations, a man is still more than oneand-a-half times as likely as a woman to be nominated for a supporting performance in a Best Picture winner. This research considers these factors, identifies potential reasons for them, and draws conclusions regarding the decades of gender bias in the Academy Awards. Further, this study investigates the dissolution of the Hollywood studio system and how, though brought on in part by two of the film industry’s leading ladies, the crumbling of that system ultimately hurt the industry’s women more than its men. AbstractThe present article focuses on the theoretical physicist and Nobel Prize winner Erwin Schrödinger (1887−1961) and his early attempts to popularize physics in the twenties and early thirties. Special attention is drawn to the ›entanglement‹ of media prerequisites and the subject Schrödinger deals with. Exemplary analysis of the magazines in which Schrödinger published, illustrations, and Schrödinger’s rather journalistic, zeitgeisty style of writing reveals a specific way of imparting the small world of atomic physics, hidden to the eye, to a broader audience. While the majority of contemporary quantum theorists rejected the allegedly old-fashioned physics of pictures and models, Schrödinger’s popular scientific praxis of a vivid explanation is even reflected in his epistemological position regarding the central goal of theoretical physics - namely, producing clear and illustrative models.

Starting from the perspective of ethical literary criticism, this paper intends to have a detailed analysis of the ethical issues existing in The Lighthouse through the method of close reading. This paper also attempts to have an insight into the moral and ethical problems in modern families, or the problems between contemporary people, trying to analyze the main characters’ self-developments of morality and the author’s ethical values from the discussion of the main characters’ ethical choices, the construction of ethical identities and the human and human relationship in this novel.

This paper investigates the strategies of translating Arabic culture-specific metaphor on taboos into English in “Throwing Sparks” by Abdo Khal, the 2010 winner of the Arabic Booker prize. The paper introduces the Triangle of Culture-specific Metaphor on Taboos (TCMT), which explains the intertwined relations between using cultural elements in metaphor to express taboo in a literary work. The study aims to answer the question of how do translators tackle culture-specific metaphors on taboos, and duly suggests means to improve them. Samples from four taboo types are selected for analysis, namely sex, homosexuality, poverty and slavery. The study finds that the techniques used to render the culture-specific metaphor on taboos are keeping the metaphor when the target reader is thought to understand the culture element, changing the metaphor for another type using explicitation when the target reader is thought to misunderstand the culture element and demetaphorizing the metaphor when the topic is not seen as a taboo in the target culture. The study suggests solutions for the translation of culture-specific metaphors, especially when they have religious reference, as the translators tended to translate them literally, which resulted in producing absurd images that create flaws in the semantics of the utterance.

Aravind Adiga’s 2008 Man Booker Prize-winning novel, The White Tiger has been hailed as a paradigmatic narrative of postcolonial wealth-formation in the 21st century, and as a novel that speaks to the “shining” India of globalization in its transformative moment of an emergent centrality on the global stage. I argue that The White Tiger, by using counter-intuitive epistemes, is also a transnational novel whose primary motive is to offer a trenchant critique of global neoliberalism, and its underlying epistemes of violence and inequality. Through the voice of its protagonist Balram Halwai, the novel, I claim, projects the 21st century postcolonial nation of India as Capital’s colony—a thriving and free “market”, if you will—whose well-being, in turn, is predicated on the phagocytizing of the human capital of the other India that is hidden from the gazes of those who admiringly gawk at “shining” India of Capital.

Northern Irish author, Anna Burns’ Man Booker Prize (2018) winning novel Milkman presents a narrative textured with multifarious considerations ranging from subjectivity, gender, politics, power, language, and religion to anything a reader may logically connect it with. One of its most noticeable features is the narrator’s not explicitly stating the unspeakable rage searing herself and the society as a whole, which is obvious in the syntactic, lexical, intonational and tonal treatments, and her not clearly revealing the identities of the characters. Researcher regard these aspects of the narrative open to myriad interpretations of which I would like to use the feminist post-structuralist view to fathom the novel in its profoundness. I intend to unravel the stereotyped gender and subjectivity features of feminist poststructuralism in the novel, which hinge upon the social mechanism, lived experiences, and language and power relations both directly and indirectly portrayed in the narrative.

The article is devoted to the development of literature and, in general, the verbal culture of Oman from the early Middle Ages to the present day. For both objective and subjective reasons, the Omani national literature has not yet become an object of research by domestic specialists. However, the strengthening of all-round relations, including cultural, between our countries and the recognition of contemporary Omani writers by the international literary community necessitates such a study. The goal of the article was to highlight the main features that were inherent in the verbal work of Oman for centuries and for a long time constituted its originality, before Omani writers began to rapidly adopt the main creative tendencies of Europe. For this, as the most famous material, the work of the founder of the school of Omani poetry, the poet of the early XX century, Abu Muslim al-Bahlyani, was analyzed. Also the attempt to outline the rapid changes that have taken place in the literary environment of Oman over the past half century, and to answer the question of what caused the interest in the literature of the Gulf today was made. As part of the work was considered the novel Celestial Bodies by Jokha al-Harti, who received an international prize in 2019 and who today presents the women's prose of Oman, which simply did not exist in the recent past. The main conclusions that researchers come to are that Omani literature for a long time practically did not experience changes in its hermetic environment and acquired distinctive features, even if we talk only about the framework of the Arab world. And then, with the beginning of the Omani Renaissance, it made a sharp leap forward and began to be of interest due to the combination of contemporary artistic techniques and national colour, as in the work of Jokha al-Harti, whose last novel has been translated into two dozen languages.

The article considers the peculiarities of the philosophical concepts implementation and the essence of anthropocosmism in the works by the great Russian writer, Nobel prize winner I. A. Bunin. A comparative analysis of his works «The Gentleman from San Francisco» and «Waters Aplenty» is given. The cultural phenomenon of wandering is shown in order to reveal a specific character of the writers poetic universe. The peculiarities of I. A. Bunins anthropocosmic philosophy are described, his idea of the universe as of a structured world and of the man in the light of the artistic and philosophical, religious and ethical opposition «The Gentleman of the World» - «The Cosmopolite» is substantiated.
