Der volle Inhalt der QuelleArabic manuscripts are a very important source of information. Three million of them are scattered throughout the world. Nowadays, a real awareness rises throughout the world to preserve the old manuscripts. Many digitization projects of old Arabic manuscripts were implemented. But, is this sufficient for the manuscripts preservation? The main goal is the massive diffusion of these resources, because nothing is better preserved than a shared resource. However, it is necessary to make them accessible.Libraries are the most suitable places for storing manuscripts. They have developed an interesting tool for the manuscripts online access: It is about a catalogue, a simple and intuitive user support.the whole of the manuscripts are listed throughout a non-standardized cataloging protocol, which differ from an institution to another, but most of them use standard entries like the "Author", "title" and "subject".The problematic is about finding a way how to help a cataloguer who struggle alone to catalog the manuscripts, which present several problems concerning their state and their calligraphy? Therefore, the answer will be about how to make it.Thus, first we are asked to find a best way to access images of the digitized Arabic manuscripts. Indeed, we can quote three methods to access digitized manuscripts:• The first one consists of accessing to manuscripts in image mode. This is done by images processing with using of suitable indexing tools.• The second one aim to fully convert the manuscript into a text mode, then the manuscript will be processed as textual document. Thus, the information retrieval will be used.• The third solution uses an effective library tool which is the catalogue. The principle of this solution is basic. First, the user makes his query to the catalogue. The latter displays the results, and then the user selects the suitable one.The goal of our research is not to make choice between these three methods to access to digitized manuscripts. Our objective is to use these methods, evaluate them in order to optimize the online access to digitized Arabic manuscripts

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis thesis studies the history of the text of the earliest extant work on arabic grammar : al-kotab by sibawayhi (died ca. 180 796). The sources used are the manuscripts of the text : out of 77 known manuscripts, 58 have been examined and 47 described (elven manuscripts, flawed and late, have been left aside for the moment). The analysis of the chains of transmitters cited in the manuscripts, as well as of other evidence (glosses, colophons and other scribal notes), points to two main stages in the text's history : 1) edition of kitab by al-mubarrad (d. In 285 898), who introduced numerous glosses into the text, 2) and wide diffusion of this edition in both the east, notably by abu 'ali l-farisi and al-zamakhshari, and in the west, where the text was introduced in al-andalus by al-rabahi. Al-mubarrad's corpus became the standard edition of kitab, which had all but eliminated the others. One exception should, however, be noted : the manuscript la (5th xith century), which preserves an older state of the text, without the glosses, might be related to the "kufian" rival of al-mubarrad : tha'lab. Many passages of kitab can be restored with the help of the newly discovered manuscript 1a

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleFrom the funds of the Vatican library this thesis aims to establish a typology of the Christian-Arabic manuscript of the thirteenth century. The different signs found on the manuscripts are analyzed and put into perspective: the numbering of the quires, the numbering of the bifolium, the foliation, the marks of the middle of the quire, marks the end of the quire and finally the ruling. A chemical analysis of the paper and the ink is also presented. The information collected enable a better understanding of the history of the texts and also to understand the specificity of Christian practices in the Arabic language

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe research describes manuscripts in Arabic characters, produced in the European area of the Ottoman Empire from IX/XV to XI/XVII century. The subject of this research is the manuscripts’ production as a whole, obtained from the analytical study of some items, presently available for consultation, that can be considered illustrative of the whole hypothetic original production. For this reason, the codicological analysis is adopted on a corpus of manuscripts homogeneous for both dating and origin. The preliminary research to select the corpus of manuscripts has been based on 50 catalogues of manuscripts’ collections conserved in public and private libraries of more than 20 cities. The examination of the catalogues has generated a database with 412 manuscripts (consisting of 485 texts). The resulting census shows a general description of the whole manuscripts' production of the age and set the following material analysis. Starting from the census, 140 codicological units have been selected, in order to be consulted directly in the current conservation libraries. The aim is the analysis of the methods of the manuscripts’ production, describing all their material aspects. During the codicological analysis many aspects have been considered: the writing surface (in all the cases it is paper), the volume’s structure, the calligraphy, the mise en page, the mise en texte and the illumination. The research addresses mainly common features, even though they are not typical, more than the peculiarities of a single manuscript

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe objectives of our PHD thesis is to digitise the Arabic manuscripts as a way to safeguard this riche and important cultural heritage from the point of view of quality and quantity. By using the new information technology, the remote access to these manuscripts requires a series of process, begins with the technique of digitisation (21 manuscripts are already digitised), followed by metadata creation, specific for the Arab manuscripts (173 metadata are created). The XML (eXensible Markup Language) format and XML spy editor was used to define the DTD (Document Type Definition). The DTD objective is to define a formal data model. Based on these metadata a database was created by using the SDX (Documentary System XML) software. A platform for the image recognition, and in particular the semi-automatic metadata extraction from Arab manuscripts images, is an original work with promising results, was developed in cooperation with the laboratory RFV-LIRIS, of the INSA Lyon

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe manuscript 1880 from The Escorial Library has not passed unacknowledged by the specialists in Aljamiado manuscripts (manuscripts written in old Spanish with Arabic characters), thanks to beauty of the colourful pages, a good state of preservation and most of all, its texts in verse, it was able to attract their attention. Nevertheless, this manuscript had hitherto been the object of partial studies. The aim of this thesis is to study in depth this peculiar manuscript, offering a new perspective on the Muslim population that lived under Christian ruling in the north of the Iberian Peninsula. First and foremost we demonstrate that its attribution to the Morisco period was erroneous and founded upon historiographical prejudice as well as reading mistakes. On the miscellany, we went upstream the Arabicsources and their Aljamiado versions to delimit those of our manuscript and elucidate the course of transmission ; then, we demonstrate that the ensemble contains ritual texts intended to be read by the imām to the Muslim congregation in Ágreda. Lastly, a new editing of the miscellany of Ágreda is proposed, together with plentiful review materials. Summarising, this historic and pragmatic approach to the manuscript allows to cast a fresh light onto the authors of aljamiado manuscripts and shed some on the mindset and cultural practices of a religious minority that was nonetheless well established in the society by the end of the Middle Ages

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleOur thesis consists in two volumes ; the first one deals with the iconographic study and the analysis of text/image relationships in the arabic hippiatric manuscripts Khalīl Āghā 8 and Fatīh 3608/3609. The first one entitled kitāb al-baïtara of Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ibn al-Ahnaf is stored at Dār al-kutub in Cairo and is dated of 1209. The second one of the same title as the first one is neither signed nor dated. It is kept in the Libary of the Süleymaniye in Istanbul. We have attempted to study these two manuscripts, so richly decorated, to discover what are the characteristics that link them together and what aspects separate them and also whether they are from the same author or not. In the second volume of this thesis, we transcribed the copy of the Cairo manuscript on computer to make it more readable and we have then translated it to French in order to make it accessible to non-Arabic researchers
