The moral socialization of preschool children has so far mostly been investigated in the informal context of family, but with an increasing institutionalization of early childhood education worldwide, preschool teachers now play a prominent role as moral socialization agents. Accordingly, we investigated the institutional moral socialization of the three ethics of Autonomy, Community, and Divinity in two different cultural contexts. Preschool teachers (PTs) from urban German ( n = 73) and Indonesian ( n = 135) contexts completed a paper–pencil survey assessing their moral socialization goals for preschool children concerning the three ethics via the Ethical Values Assessment (EVA_S). Confirmatory factor analyses were carried out separately for the German and Indonesian samples and confirmed the proposed three-factor structure. Measurement invariance tests for the EVA_S indicated metric, but not scalar invariance. Thus, subsequent intra- and cross-cultural analyses were conducted with centered values. The results indicate that German PTs emphasized the ethic of Autonomy for moral socialization, while Indonesian PTs promoted the ethic of Divinity. Across cultures, Autonomy and Divinity socialization goals correlated with the PTs’ preference of the ethics in their moral reasoning. Furthermore, Divinity socialization goals were related to the PTs’ religiosity and their preschools having a religious affiliation in both cultural contexts. These findings contribute to our understanding of institutional moral socialization and cultural as well as subcultural contextual influences.

Value Based Education (VBE) is an essential element that impacts moral, ethical, cultural, social and spiritual ideals necessary for holistic development of children. Providing an education on values at an early age ensures that children are directed by these ideologies throughout life. Research indicates that children who adopt values at an early age are confident, competent, independent, and exhibit harmonious social interactions throughout life time. Conversely, increase in juvenile delinquency, disrespect, drug abuse, school dropout, and conflicts in schools creates crisis in contemporary society. In such circumstances, VBE assumes a distinctive role to school deterioration process by strengthening morals and ethics within the society. The study explored influence of preschool teachers in spurring VBE among preschool children in Nairobi County focusing on; self control honesty, fairness, compassion and trust. A survey design was adopted with a target population of 36 public preschools. Purposeful sampling technique was then used to obtain data from 36 preschool teachers though use of a questionnaire. The study established that though teachers inculcate values to children both consciously and unconsciously, there is no planned value education program established on formal learning. The study recommends; regular training of teachers on use of VBE to deliberately foster intercultural understanding, social cohesion and inclusion, as well as need for value oriented programmes focusing on effective pedagogy.

Preschool years have an important place in the formation of moral values and in the socialisation of the individual afterwards. Social values that make up an important part of human life are acquired by children who lead a normal life. This research on the ages of children, having value, gender, parental education status and mother’s work status was performed in order to determine whether it differs. The study group consisted of 121 children who received preschool education in Bayburt province centre. In order to obtain information by parents and teachers, the PreSchool Values Scale Family and Parent Form developed by Nesliturk and Celikoz were used. Data were analysed by the SPSS program. As a result of the analysis, children’s value scores differed significantly according to their age and gender, while parents’ education level and mother’s working conditions showed that the results did not differ significantly. The article analyses the question of theoretical and methodological basis of labor education of preschool year children. The focus of this study is on the need to look at moral education through a retrospective of labor education. Much attention is given to the work teachers of the past (D. Locke, K. Ushinsky, A. Makarenko, V. Sukhomlinsky, etc.) who used work as a means of comprehensive development of the child. In Soviet times, thorough systematic research was conducted in this area (Z. Borysova, T. Vvedenska, V. Nechayeva, V. Pavlenchyk). Considering the issue of preschooler labor education, researchers have proved the educational significance of children's work in educational institutions, linking it with the formation of individual moral qualities. Modern Ukrainian scientists (G. Byelyenka, O. Dolynna, M. Mashovets, O. Nyzkovska) recommend to promote the active participation of children in hard work from an early age that will determine the formation of their work skills and positive attitude to work. They argue that labor education in preschool childhood contributes to the effective development of moral qualities of individual, the improvement of the educational process. The necessary moral qualities of the child's personality are formed in the relationship of labor and moral education. They are responsibility, diligence, mutual assistance, etc. The analysis of scientists’ research shows that the up-to-date development of this problem is marked by the lack of attention to it. The author gives the reasons for the necessity of cultivating the sensitivity by means of labor activity within the preschool children. Extensive coverage is given to involving preschoolers in hard work that is associated with the care of animals and plants, having the aim to improve the morality of personality. The author points out that the effectiveness of the use of labor in nature as a form of work in preschool education, in order to improve children sensitivity through daily taking care of animals and plants. The author argues that sensualy-joyful knowledge of the natural environment by preschool children, their humane perception of living beings is a reliable background for the formation of sensitivity in childhood. At the same time, the study confirms that children are not isolated from suffering, grief and worries. Having the opportunity for such an experience, children understand the necessity of care process.

Nowadays, the role of educational and cultural institutions in the process of early formation of moral and aesthetic qualities of the child is greatly increasing, which becomes an additional incentive to search for new forms of work with preschoolers in children's libraries and cultural institutions. For effective implementation of such interaction, a universal model of interdepartmental interaction was developed on the basis of the project method using Internet platforms and innovative technologies for constant communication with preschoolers and their parents. The model is based on the creation of a unified cultural and educational space using specific and general approaches to the moral and aesthetic education of preschool children. During the verifying stage of the experiment, children aged 3 to 7 years and their parents took part. 4276 preschoolers took part in the experiment implemented on the basis of Internet platforms. To analyse the effectiveness of the developed model, a survey of parents, library staff, and teachers was conducted, as well as a study of the results of the children's creative activity. Analysis of the results of the initial levels presented in table 4 showed that preschoolers are eager to participate in projects, their parents noted that the creative activity has increased, especially in CG at an average and high level from 50.4% to 69.9% and from 7.7% to 18.8%, respectively. In EG, the low and high levels of indicators increased from 7.7% and 50.4% to 11.3% and 69.9%, respectively. The results of control levels show that the quality of moral and aesthetic education of preschool children in the formative experiment is significantly higher. Integrated project data showed an average absolute increase from -55% to 40%. The materials of the article can be useful for implementation in educational and cultural institutions, for further theoretical research and practical development in the field of moral and aesthetic education of preschool children.

This study investigated what constitutes a moral development program in Buddhist temple preschools in Thailand. The researcher employed three qualitative methods: structured, in-depth interviews, observations of teachers' instruction, and document analysis of curriculum guides. Four Buddhist temple preschools were selected as the sites. Participants for interview included three abbots and one head nun, four principals, and twelve teachers. Participants for observations included four teachers of third year classes in each preschool. The study concentrated on four research questions: (a) what are the elements of the character education curriculum? (b) How do teachers teach moral development concepts and skills? (c) What are the teachers' perceptions of the moral development of third year preschoolers? (d) How do teachers assess their pupils' moral development? Key findings for the research questions were: character education was not a subject in the National Preschool Curriculum which was implemented in the Buddhist temple preschools. Core morality was integrated into every topic. The moral behaviors emphasized in the curriculum and the lesson plans included discipline, mindfulness, kindness, helpfulness, patience, honesty, respect, thriftiness, and politeness. The Buddhist concept of the process of moral development includes character education and meditation. The preschoolers were trained to pay respect to teachers and parents as an obedience approach to character education. Preparation of teachers included screening for their values and pre-service training. The instruction of meditation was approached gradually and aroused the children's interest. After three years of schooling, the third year preschoolers were well-behaved, helpful, and kind; no aggressive behaviors were reported. The assessment of moral development of preschoolers was based on observation of the teachers throughout the school year. Implications for practice are discussed, including procedures for gathering information on beliefs, attitudes, and culture of the parents before implementation of different models of moral development. Finally, future research directions are proposed.

With the incidence of prenatal drug exposure increasing, it is important that preschool teachers are prepared and confident in serving the needs of children affected by this exposure. Teachers need more training and education to prepare them for working with children with prenatal drug exposure. The purpose of this sequential mixed-methods study was to explore the perceptions, training, and shared experiences of preschool teachers when working with 4- and 5-year-old preschool children who have experienced prenatal drug exposure. The researcher invited 77 preschool teachers in northeast Tennessee working in either Head Start or Tennessee Voluntary Pre-K Initiative programs to complete an initial quantitative survey – of which 53 participated. Of the survey participants, 34 reported they might have worked with a child with prenatal drug exposure. Six of those teachers who said they had experience with children with prenatal drug exposure participated in a follow up semi-structured interview with the researcher. The findings revealed that preschool teachers were favorable toward children with prenatal drug exposure regarding the children’s ability to learn. Preschool teachers were already using many effective interventions (e.g., working one-on-one with the child, offering flexible seating options, repetition of information) that they may have used with other children with special needs, but they were eager for more information about the best way to work with these children. School leaders and those in teacher preparation programs would be excellent advocates in spreading knowledge and translating medical knowledge into resources more applicable to the teaching and childcare profession. It is important that the information become more accessible to all teachers and stakeholders in education.

Sareh, Narges. „Gender differences in preschool teachers' math talk with children“. Digital Commons @ East Tennessee State University, 2018. https://dc.etsu.edu/asrf/2018/schedule/82.

Annotation:
Various studies have found differences in males’ and females’ mathematical achievement, with boys’ achievement scores higher than girls’. However, the difference in mathematical achievement does not appear to exist yet when children are younger (e.g., in preschool or kindergarten), but rather we begin to observe this gender achievement gap in middle school and high school. These findings raise the question about what is happening in pre- and elementary school that may cause this achievement gap to appear. Research suggests that there is a relationship between the amount of teachers’ math talk and preschool children’s conventional mathematical knowledge. Studies suggest that teachers’ math talk is significantly related to the growth of mathematical knowledge. The amount of input boys and girls receive from preschool teachers’ can be one of the causes of the gap in their math achievement in later years. Various studies measured the amount of teachers’ math talk in the classroom however there are very few research that investigated the influence of gender on the amount of preschool teachers’ math talk. The current study investigated the effects of children’s gender on preschool teachers’ math talk. The purpose of the study was to investigate the amount of preschool teachers’ math talk with children as well as the effect of children’s gender on the amount and type of preschool teachers’ math talk. The data was collected as part of another study which aimed to create a database of quality early childhood practices. The participants of the current study were 2 teachers (1 teacher and 1 assistant teacher) in a preschool classroom and the 16 (7 girls. 9 boys) children in their classroom. Permissions were obtained from teachers and children’s families. The teachers were videotaped during the free play time and the videos were coded for the amount and type of math talk using Observational Coding Matrix which is a checklist of 8 different math categories. The results showed a statistically significant difference for the amount of total math talk that boys received comparing to girls, in favor of the boys. Although, boys received more math talk in most of the math categories, the operation was the type in which the gender difference was statistically significant. Although the sample size was small the gender difference was statistically significant, which shows the importance of studies that investigate the gender differences in teachers’ math talk.

The title of this thesis is "iPad and Computer devices in Preschool: A tool for literacy development among teachers and children in preschool." The study was an exploration of how teachers and their pupils put iPad and other computer devices into use in early childhood education. This study was a qualitative research study, based on the observation of the pupils and the interviews of the teachers. In this study, observation of the children and interviewing of the teachers over a period of five weeks produced significant results. The children participants in the observation were approximately 60 and they were between the ages of 3 to 6,5 years. Four preschool teachers and one preschool teaching assistant were interviewed in an attempt to substantiate the use of ICT in early childhood education. The overall result of the study was that the teachers’ positive attitude towards iPad helped to enhance and facilitate the development of literacy skills in the children. This study provided evidence of how children created their own learning environment by actively practising their reading, writing, and comprehension skills. It also showed how ICT enhanced social interaction and developed intra-action activities among the children, to a situation that eventually led to the development in their learning.

Modern preschool education in Ukraine is experiencing systemic changes in the structure and content of the educational process. The shift of emphasis on the acquisition of knowledge, skills and abilities to the acquisition of the necessary life competencies by the child, ensuring her personal growth puts forward new requirements for ensuring the quality of education of preschool children. However, the quality of preschool education today cannot be imagined without partner interaction between all subjects of the educational process: the administration of the institution, educators, parents, children. An institution of preschool education is an open educational space in which the teaching staff interacts with the families of pupils (as well as with other social institutions) to ensure the needs, interests and full development of each child. the interaction of the institution of preschool education and the families of pupils is an important condition for ensuring the effectiveness of the educational process aimed at creating an atmosphere of psychological comfort, goodwill and mutual understanding for all participants, based on traditional and modern pedagogical research in the field of social and family education, takes into account regional, national and world culture , human and national moral values. The purpose of our article is to characterize the pedagogical partnership of all subjects of the educational process of a preschool education institution as a necessary condition for ensuring the quality of a child's education. It can be stated that a pedagogical partnership between a family and an educational institution in form is the coordination and implementation of the interests of the family and the teaching staff to ensure all conditions for the development and comfort of the child while striving to reach consensus and compromises on the most important issues of upbringing and training a growing personality. The pedagogical partnership of the institution of preschool education and the family is realized in such components as: informational; the entry of the family into the educational space; active pedagogical position of the family in interaction with specialists. Research findings. The process of professional training of teachers of preschool education of a new generation, who, already during the period of study in higher education institutions, created their own pedagogical style based on humanistic values, personal maturity, worldview positions, high-level education, the ability to implement all virtues in practical activity, requires updating and improvement. in cooperation with the parents of the pupils. We consider the pedagogical partnership of an educator as one of the most active subjects of his attitude in the educational process of a preschool education institution, in three dimensions – children, parents, and the teaching staff. The involvement of parents and families in the educational process of a preschool institution confirms the responsibility of each parent of a child for his upbringing, development and training, as well as for preserving her life, strengthening her health, forming a sense of human dignity and a conscious attitude of the child to a healthy lifestyle.

In today's society there are social and cultural changes that characterize the modern style of formation of human relationships, changing models of interpersonal interaction. These processes penetrate even the level of the relationship between preschool children and adults (parents, teachers and other adults) with whom they interact. Parents, as the founders of a positive family microclimate, form in children value orientations and moral norms, cultivate in them personal qualities in order to gradually engage in social activities. The institution of the family needs pedagogical support from the very first educational institution – the institution of preschool education, in particular from the preschool teacher, in matters of choosing effective and appropriate educational technologies in the moral sphere. In view of this, there is a need for scientific substantiation and methodological support of the educational process aimed at forming the personality of a preschool child in an adequate model of interpersonal interaction, in which the child is the subject of real relationships established and developed on the basis of moral values. formation of respectful attitude in children of the 5th year of life to adults. Historical analysis of scientific and pedagogical experience allows us to assert the priority of values in society and human life, because the future of society and its culture will depend on how much they are accepted and actualized by each person. In the context of the national revival of the spirituality and culture of the Ukrainian people, the formation of the individual and, in particular, its moral sphere, is a priority of the philosophical, psychological and pedagogical aspects of society. The culture of intergenerational relations is analyzed and its types are singled out (M. Mead): post-figurative, co-figurative, pre-figurative. The purpose and tasks of research are defined, in particular: philosophical researches are described, structural elements of concepts «morality», «moral values» are specified. The potential of the Ukrainian fairy tale in the context of the research topic is revealed; the functions performed by fairy tales are analyzed: mirrors, alternative concepts, models, mediation, changes of position, storage of experience. Pedagogical conditions of formation of respectful attitude to adults in children of the 5th year of life are substantiated, namely: creation of developmental environment in preschool educational institution for the purpose of maintenance of a positive emotional background of perception by pupils of moral maintenance of fairy tales; systematic enrichment of knowledge of children of the 5th year of life by the content of fairy tales of moral orientation; involvement of children in practically oriented activities in the context of creative interpretation of fairy tales with subsequent behavioral projection and tested their effectiveness in the educational process of preschool education in Ukraine. Comparative results of experimental research are described. The obtained data testify to the effectiveness of pedagogical conditions for the formation of respectful attitude in children 5 years old to adults with the help of a Ukrainian fairy tale. The prospect of further research requires the question of the educational trajectory of educators in order to increase their pedagogical competence in moral education.

In modern educational conditions the problem of professional mobility of the future Physical Education teacher acquires actual value. This is what strengthens the special interest in the ideas of child`s physical development through the prism of game technologies, which were put forward by educators of the past and have not lost their importance today. Analysis of the creative heritage of outstanding educators makes it possible to use historical experience in the development of modern education. The works of the German teacher F. Froebel and the Ukrainian K. Ushynskyi, wich study the theory of children's game, are of considerable interest nowdays. The subject of research is the pedagogical possibilities of children's games by F. Froebel and K. Ushynskyi in the professional training of a mobile-oriented PE teacher in modern educational conditions. The purpose of the study is to substantiate the effectiveness of game methods of the child`s physical development in the process of future PE teachers training to implement the pedagogical ideas of F. Froebel and K. Ushinskyi in the modern space of higher physical education. Objectives of the study: studying the problem of children's play in the pedagogical concepts of F. Froebel and K. Ushinskyi, outlining ways of creative use of ideas of F. Froebel and K. Ushinskyi in the formation of professional mobility of future PE teachers in the process of practical preparation for play activity of young pupils. The methodological basis of the study is the pedagogical heritage of F. Froebel and K. Ushinskyi; theory of scientific knowledge. The study is based on the principles of historicism, systematics, scientificity, mobility, child-centeredness, creative approach to the personality as a subject of the educational process. The scientific novelty of the study is, that: a comparative analysis of game methods of the child`s physical development through the prism of pedagogical systems of F. Froebel and K. Ushinskyi is given for the first time; the process of professional training of future PE teachers is modeled on F. Froebel's pedagogical ideas; further development of the content and methodological support for the formation of professional mobility of future teachers to implement the provisions of F. Froebel and K. Ushinskyi on children's play activities. Friedrich Froebel (1782-1852) developed the theory and methodology of the game as a means of harmonious development of the child. His system of preschool education was extremely widespread in the world, and is also used today in Europe, particularly in Germany. Konstantin Ushinskyi (1824–1870) formulated the following pedagogical conclusions about the game: games predict the future character and destiny of the child; the game has a great influence on the development of children's abilities; children's games have their nationalities, their centuries-old history; children are constantly creating new games. The study led to the following conclusions: 1. The study of the theory of children's play in the pedagogical concept of F. Froebel showed that it is based on the principles of child centrism, creativity, amateurism, children's self-development, fun, constructive activity through the expression of children's feelings, thoughts, gestures, songs, stories. 2. K. Ushinsky defines the importance of game in the physical and mental development of the personality, argues and critically evaluates the "children's gifts" of F. Froebel. Theoretical and practical study of children's games in modern conditions is an important professional competence of future PE teachers, methodical provisions on their expediency were substantiated by K. Ushinskyi. The conducted historical and pedagogical analysis of the works of F. Froebel and K. Ushinskyi testifies to the important scientific achievements of teachers in the field of children's play theory. 3. Froebel's didactic material was aimed at mastering by students the method of developing children's physical abilities, their ability to constructive activity, logical thinking, which today acquires special significance not only in physical education but also in professional sports. Froebel's pedagogy is designed to educate the future teacher not only of physical culture, but also "culture" in the broadest sense of the word, forms his professional and mobile competencies of the combinatorial type. 4. Necessary pedagogical conditions for the implementation of the main tasks of physical education in the scientific heritage of K. Ushinskyi are compliance with the principles of humanism, nationality, conformity to nature, rational use of effective ways, means and forms of strengthening and preserving mental and physical health of students on the requirements of high moral and professional qualities of teacher's personality.

This chapter centres on how children's informal acquisition of textual knowledge is used or not used when children and teachers interact in formal literacy situations involving digital tools in preschool. When an interactive learning environment becomes meaningful in the eyes of children, there is potential for creativity and learning and children become competent agents in their own context and cultural environment. The empirical starting point for the chapter is qualitative observations made for a research project at a Swedish preschool. The study was organised as design-based research. The study displayed an interesting dimension of interaction in which the child had or assumed agency in dialogue with an adult. This involved occasions when the teacher was responsive to understanding the child's cultural backpack. The study is based on didactic design theories. The perspective adds to the understanding of learning in relation to human sign-creating activities.

The article discusses the problem of conflict, highlighted the large role of human self-regulation in resolving the conflict. The approaches to the problem of self-regulation presented in Russian psychology are considered. We took the following approaches as a basis for considering the problem of self-regulation: E. A. Golubeva, A. B., Leonova, V. I. Morosanova et al. Understanding the problem of self-regulation is carried out by us in the context of the humanitarian paradigm (M. M. Bakhtin, N. Ya. Bolshunova, N. I. Nepomnyashchaya, T. A. Florenskaya). The technology is based on the possession of the practical principles of human self-regulation in resolving conflict situations. It is assumed that the technology of selfregulation in a conflict is more effective if it is based on the sociocultural foundations of human life. In the modern world, many conflicts (national, interpersonal, intragroup, intrapersonal, school, etc.) are often resolved destructively with aggression, cruelty, etc. The destructive nature of conflict resolution in many cases is affected by the inability of people to regulate themselves, to perceive the other, his “friend”. A feature of the Russian mentality is peacefulness, the value of achieving peace and harmony. Conflict resolution in the context of Russian mentality is associated with forgiveness. At the same time, forgiveness is understood as a complex spiritual and moral phenomenon associated with a system of values that a person is guided by in his life, in his choices and actions. The ability to forgive is based on the “dominant on the other”, the recognition of the other by the other, the right of the other to “friend”, which actualizes the possibility of a dialogue between the forgiving and the forgiven. It is shown that the dialectic of “interrogation” and “responsiveness” lies at the heart of the dialogue. A dialogue made in the context of sociocultural patterns, updated by means of text (fairy tales, parables, etc.), initiating leading activities (in preschool — games, elementary schools — creative and productive, etc.) determines a person’s readiness for forgiveness. Dialogue — forgiveness contributes to the perception and understanding of another person in a conflict situation, makes it possible to resolve the conflict in a peaceful way. The technology of self-regulation in conflict resolution through a dialogue of forgiveness can reduce the number of conflicts between children, children and parents, teachers, etc. For three years, on the basis of the educational institution, we organized the service of “forgiveness and reconciliation”. This service includes: children, parents, teachers, administration. The technology under consideration for the self-regulation of a person in conflict through a dialogue of forgiveness has shown its effectiveness in building the value of the relationship “I and the Other”.

As society evolves, the need for a paradigm shift from teaching-centred to learning-centred education has become stronger. The learning processes focus on how children learn instead of how teachers teach, and it requires children to take responsibility for their own learning, thus promoting self-affirmation and self-directed learning. Implementation of a competency-based learning approach requires improving transversal skills, including self-directed learning. Unfortunately, preschool teachers lack a common understanding about children's self-directed learning. It is still a habit to set the goal of lessons to provide ready knowledge to lead and control the learning process. Observations in preschool classes show that teachers often do not have sufficient understanding on how to organize and process self-directed learning. In various studies self-directed learning is mainly based on the experience of schools and universities, associating preschools with school practice and researches. Schools and teachers are challenged to promote children’s self-directed learning. The aim of the paper is to identify the understanding of preschool teachers about self-directed learning in preschool and to find out the criteria for self-directed learning. Research methods used was content analysis of scientific literature and sources and survey of teachers. The research results indicate that preschool teachers relatively understand the essence of self-directed learning and determine the need for preschool teachers to promote children's self-directed learning in preschools.
