The article presents views on the increasing relevance of modern research of the ideas of Russian youth about their national character, mentality in connection with the geopolitical Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The risks of loss of ethno-cultural identity in the denial of the historical path of development of the nation are noted. Russian youth's understanding of the Russian national character, the characteristic features that distinguish Russian representatives from other ethnic groups, is emphasized in this regard.
