This paper delves into a comprehensive exploration of the macro-level socio-economic landscape characterizing the Nat community, a de-notified tribe categorized as a scheduled caste in the state of Rajasthan, India. The primary aim is to furnish a nuanced understanding of the life and livelihood dynamics and the contemporary circumstances of the Nat community both at a national level and, more specifically, within the confines of Rajasthan. Historically, the Nat community is a nomadic group of entertainers who performed for Rajput kings and their subjects through dance and acrobatic skills. Dr

This paper examined the pattern of horizontal education inequality in the conflict-affected Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) of Assam, India. Recent literature has identified horizontal inequalities as a significant factor in group-based conflicts. Horizontal education inequality is considered a more systematic form of discrimination, exacerbating conflicts in many conflict-affected multi-ethno-religious societies. Drawing on this literature, I investigated whether horizontal education inequality exists in BTR to inform policies aimed at restoring peace in such regions. Using the group Gini c

Poverty is multifaceted. The global poverty profile shows 41% of multidimensionally poor people living in South Asian countries. Though castes and tribes are a more prevalent line of social stratification in India, and their socio-economic characteristics also vary remarkably, hardly any study has explored these dimensions while analysing multidimensional poverty in India. Hence, this study attempts to assess the multidimensional status of poverty among the social groups in India. The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) initiated in 2006 is essentially a reaction to the jobless growth witnessed in the post-1991 reforms period. The Scheme seeks to improve the livelihoods of the marginalised sections in rural areas by generating wage employment. The article is an attempt to examine if the Scheme is really benefitting these sections as envisaged. The increase in utilization of these services is expected to reduce inequality across geographies and population sub-groups, but little is known about the extent of inequality in maternal care use across socioeconomic groups over time. It guarantees minimum wage, reduces poverty and checks large scale migration in rural India. It has reduced rural hunger.
