Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe goal of this study is to verify the idea that hasidic discourse is preoccupied chiefly with linking the annihilation of Self (bittul ha-yesh) to spiritual liberation (geula ruhanit). This fundamental theme, specific to hasidism, is a recurring motif throughout the different subjects treated by hasidic authors in the course of their work – the latter, being focused on biblical and rabbinical literature, being essentially exegetical in nature. Our method has been to select a short, key biblical passage (the beginning of chapter 12 of Genesis) and to unfold the commentary of four hasidic writers, R. Shalom Noah Brosowski, R. Shmuel Weinberg, R. Yehuda Leib Eiger and R. David Twersky, that are representative of diverse schools and literary approaches. Through the figure of Abraham is given a programmatic depiction of what it means to be a « servant of the (divine) Name » (oved ha-Shem), which opens unto a discourse that draws a lot from mystical litterature in order to link the struggle of abstracting oneself from the finitude of the ego and the liberation of the state of existential exile that characterizes the whole of Creation

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe present dissertation addresses several aspects of prophecy in the works of Philo of Alexandria : prophetic vocabulary, the prophetical character of Abraham, the relationship between Moses’ prophecy and the three other functions he is attributed in the Life of Moses — royalty, law-giving, and priesthood —, the question of divine inspiration and the classification of Moses’ oracles, the relationship between prophecy and interpretation as illustrated by the relationship between Moses and Aaron, prophetic dreams and their classification in Philo’s writings, Philo’s critique of divination through the example of the soothsayer Balaam, the role of the former and latter prophets in Philo’s works. As opposed to most previous studies, the present dissertation takes a fresh look at the topic by focusing on the prophetical characters rather than on the theoretical aspects of prophecy

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe two great biblical sacrifices give rise to a number of inconsistencies, which are difficulties to define an interpretation. Isaac, son of the Holy Promise, risks death by a test sent by God himself ; Christ, becomes flesh, dies subjected to a punishment reserved for criminals and slaves by the state. From an artistic point of view, Crucifixion and Isaac on the altar display a polymorphy, illustration of the complexity of the faces linked to the sacrifice and raise the question of the different ways to picture the body. This question penetrates the theological debate of the first centuries of our era and the answer was the proclamation of the Incarnation dogma, founded on a paradox. .

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleIconography of Abraham’s hospitality (gen. 18) is deeply connected to exegesis. As early as the beginning of Christianity, this episode, as all the bible, is annotated everything is about Christ’s life. This allegorical way of thinking is, in part, connected to the fathers' Hellenistic culture. It has been identical during the middle age, by respect of the traditions more than by impossibility of personal reflexion. XIIIth century will free him of this fathers' heritage but in recognizing what he owned to him. At the end of XIIth century, a new literal reading seems indispensable. The Trinitarian symbolism of gen. 18 , is kept by father, but the real vision of trinity is dicemed by Ambroise. Allegory and symbolism are confounded words during middle ages. Beside all Trinitarian connotations, we can feel a figure of annunciation, of incarnation, of the Eucharist, of the resurrection. Abraham's moral values are also glorified: hospitality, faith - he never doubts that he will have a son - trust in god who aiks into interfere for Sodom. Iconography takes possession of all these significations and of the historical part of the subject : bible, liturgical books, the psychomachie de prudence, the city of God from saint Augustin are reflects of the story, of his symbolism, of Abraham’s valor’s whose life is in engrave in the story of the salvation in the walls of paleo Christian and roman's churches. Fidelity to the text is learnt thought the messengers - alike or not - Sara’s presence, her attitude, Abraham’s tent very often evoqued by an architecture

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe study is divided in two, parts : first part : Abraham was considered as a christian model, contested by Tertullian, but admired for his virtus by Ambrose. His life supplied arguments about circumcision and the theophany of Mambré which caused a great controversy during the first centures. Abraham was named whenever Augustine attacked the heretics and the shismatics. Second part : Augustine drew up the chronology of Abraham'life and compared it to general history. The church fathers study it to in the history of salvatic mainkind, that is to say they explained his faith which showed itself on several occasion throughout his life ; particularly when he was about to sacrifice his son, Isaac, and when he accepted god's promises. The fathers spoke of his faith in Christ of whom he was the prophet. Isaac himself foreshdwed Christ and Sara foreshadowed the Church
