Proces rozpadu SFRJ a SSSR na počátku 90. let způsobil výrazné proměny charakteru bezpečnostních rizik. Primárním zdrojem destabilizace se staly vnitrostátní konflikty, většinou se silnou etnickou dimenzí. Angažování KBSE při řešení těchto konfliktů bylo v počátečním období zásadně reaktivní, tedy nikoli prev entivní povahy. Tato studie zkoumá vývoj československé zahraniční politiky vůči vybraným aktérům arabsko-izraelského konfliktu v letech 1948–1967. Kdysi velmi přátelské vztahy Československa s Izraelem brzy vystřídala postupně se rozvíjející spolupráce s některými arabskými aktéry. I toto partnerství však potkalo několik těžkých chvil. Přes dlouhodobé ideologické spory s arabskými nacionalistickými vůdci prokázalo Československo v Šestidenní válce (1967) bezvýhradnou podporu arabské koalici a proarabská orientace se stala nezpochybnitelnou linií československého středního Východní politika ve studené válce.
