This article explores the little-known but formative networks developing across the 1960s between anarchist political prisoners in Franco's Spain and emerging activists of the European New Left. As social change accelerated, these prisoners broke with the out-of-touch anarchist leadership-in-exile to connect with a new generation of activists inside and outside Spain. The article uses prisoner correspondence and prisoner-aid bulletins to reconstruct these informational networks, and argues they were an important element in the ‘global rupture of 1968’. It posits that anarchist prisoners’ input

The energy crisis experienced by the European Union and representing a serious non-military threat to its security has not bypassed Spain. This is a country with a high degree of dependence on hydrocarbon imports. However, the energy crisis there has a number of specific features. It began in autumn 2021, when Algeria – the main supplier of gas to Spain – severed diplomatic relations with Morocco and closed the gas pipeline GME passing through its territory. The author studies the reasons of this or that choice, the presentation methods of different cities and streets as reflections of the political, economic and cultural situation in the country. Geographical objects are of great importance in displaying the general atmosphere of life in Spain, and thus, the research of the very narrative object enables the author to come to a number of conclusions connected both with the history of Spain and the history of Spanish cinema.

The case summaries sent to the central council of the Inquisition in Madrid by the tribunal in Barcelona show that a number of Protestant soldiers were in Spanish service in the second half of the seventeenth century. These soldiers were not persecuted by the Holy Office, but denounced themselves voluntarily in order to be allowed to convert to Catholicism. The majority of them were from German-speaking areas, and many came from within the Holy Roman Empire. Yet Spanish society’s response at that time, as well as in 2017 following the terrorist attacks in Barcelona, did not embrace a traditional securitised ‘War on Terror’ approach, but rather invested significant resources in engaging civil society in its P/CVE programmes. AbstractThe 11 March 2004 attacks in Madrid (11M) constituted a moment that would mark the political and social dynamics of collective remembrance in contemporary Spain. These processes of commemoration of traumatic events are inherently complex. They intertwine intimate and collective mourning experiences that are not straightforward practices. Added to this equation is the difficulty of managing these practices for institutions. The immediate aftermath of the 11M attacks was characterised by expressions of solidarity and mutual support.
