U prvom dijelu članka, autor ispituje pitanje trubadurske subjektivnosti. Subjekt pjesme najavljuje samogubljenje, napuštanje postojećeg stanja stvari i samopredavanje, ali u tome ne vidi tragediju, već izvor istinske radosti. Ljubav zaslužuje žrtvu, ona je vrijedna cjelokupnog ljudskog htijenja, ali nije konvencionalna ljubav, nije ni bračna ni porodična, već je eterična i poetična ljubav prema Gospi. Za sve što može biti vezano uz takvu ljubav smatramo da je daleko prikladniji prijevod radosna nauka jer preciznije označava trubadursku poantu od uobičajenog prijevoda vesela nauka. Ono što posebno začuđuje kod naslijeđenog rješenja potpuno je promašivanje trubadurske posebnosti jer se riječ nauka može dovesti s njom u vezu jedino ako se prethodno stavi pod znakove navoda (što je i Nietzsche izričito učinio). Riječju, autor zaključuje da je demokratski naučnik sretan i optimističan, dok Nietzscheov »radosni« naučnik ne preza svima javno pokazati svoje patničko lice. Trubadurska patnja zbog daleke i neostvarive ljubavi neobično je blizu Nietzscheovoj patnji u suvremenom svijetu koji kao da nije u stanju živjeti u svijetu dalekog i odsutnog Boga.

The broadside ballad O, radost ma [Oh, My Joy] was, as far as known, first printed in Kutna Hora in 1808. Later, it began to be sung to an unprecedented number of different tunes, inspired by folk and semi-folk songs, broadside ballads, church and artificial songs. Sometimes, the tune even literally quoted the folk melody. Variants of the song continued to appear in all Czech regions throughout the 20th century. In the Chodsko region, the song has become popular and has been sung as a folk song to this day.

Tema odgovornog roditeljstva nedovoljno je istraživana u hrvatskoj teološkoj literaturi, za razliku od pedagogije gdje joj se pridalo znatno više pažnje. Budući da termin odgovornog roditeljstva te dvije znanosti ne tumače podjednako, autorice su uvidjele potrebu za jasnijom usporedbom teološke i pedagogijske perspektive analizirajući apostolsku posinodalnu pobudnicu pape Franje Amoris laetitia — Radost ljubavi. Teološka perspektiva naglašava da se odgovorno roditeljstvo temelji na ljudskoj odgovornosti koja se nadopunjuje kršćanski oblikovanom savjesti te je kao takvu nudi pedagogiji kao mogućnost. Prva se četiri poglavlja članka odnose na analizu dokumenta Amoris laetitia, a u petom se poglavlju nudi prikaz odgovornog roditeljstva iz perspektive suvremene pedagogijske znanosti.

Članak obrađuje pastoralne i katehetske naglaske sedmog i osmog poglavlja posinodalne apostolske pobudnice pape Franje Amoris laetitia — Radost ljubavi, koja nose naslov „Pojačati odgoj djece“ te „Pratiti, razlučivati i integrirati slabosti“. Ta dva poglavlja komprimiraju katehetsku i pastoralnu specifičnost pobudnice i vrlo su izazovna jer obrađuju pitanje odgoja u obitelji, moralnog i vjerskog odgoja te aktualiziraju neka zaboravljena pastoralna usmjerenja. Naime, do sada ni jedan od službenih dokumenta opće Crkve ne posvećuje toliko brojeva konkretnomu problemu (vjerskog) odgoja djece u obitelji, kao što je to vidljivo u sedmom poglavlju. Osmo poglavlje, u kontekstu izvanredne svete godine Božjeg milosrđa, povezano je s promjenom mentaliteta koji pobudnica nudi, i to u smislu prezentiranja Crkve kao očeve kuće nasuprot slici Crkve kao carinarnice.

The project implements job shadowing to observe good practices in the Kindergarten-partner, studing and applying interactive methods, techniques and approaches of pedagogical interaction in inclusive education. Abstract Today, the importance of ecological education is often highlighted, although the current National Curriculum for Early and Preschool Education doesn’t even mention it. Although ecological education is not mentioned in this baseline document, various activities in this direction are often carried out in our kindergartens. An example of this is the play The Ecological Story by the author Sanja Seferović-Bosak from her collection of plays Maštarije: Igrokazi za djecu od 3 do 13 godina (eng. Pipe Dreams: Plays for Children of 3-13 years). This paper describes the preparation and performance of this play in 2017 in the kindergarten Radost (eng. Joy) in Novska. The theoretical part of the paper considers the basic settings of ecological education in early and preschool age, with special reference to current practice in Croatian kindergartens. The empirical part of the paper describes the stages of preparation and performance of the play The Ecological Story, with special reference to the compliance of this project with the requirements of the National Curriculum in terms of developing key competences for lifelong learning. The paper also contains an analysis of methodological procedures with particular reference to the preparation of musical numbers in the play.

The study, maintenance, and replenishment of the genetic collection of the herbaceous peony in the All-Russian Horticultural Institute for Breeding, Agrotechnology and Nursery is conducted since the 80s of the XX century. The article provides information on the evaluation of reproductive ability: high-productive varieties were revealed – Dawn Pink, Early Scout, Vostok, Yubilej Revolyutsii, Seraphim, Goldich, Ufimskie Zori, Pervaya Radost’, Gloirette, Marry Eddy Jones, Pobeda, Podmoskovnye Vechera, Old Lace, Agidel’, Tomas Waar, Nezhnyj, Martha Bulloch, Mihail Lomonosov, Parkovyj, Pfeiff er’s Red Triumph, Odile et al., their reproductive capacity is estimated of 8-10 points; resistant varieties to Botrytis paeonie Qud were identified – Mamino Serdechko, Varen’ka, Orlenok, El’brus, Moguchij, Polonez, Rossiya, Brat Moguchego, SHkol’nyj Val’s, Valentina Tereshkova, Parkovyj 1, Zhemchuzhina Urala, Zor’ka, Rhapsody, President Wilson, The Fawn, Moon Glow, Yellow King, Waikiki, Белый парус, Sinbad, Gene Wild; varieties strongly aff ected by Cronartium fl accidum (Alb. et Schw.) Wint.) were identified – Lunnaya Doroga, Tajfun, Parkovyj 2, Nahodka, Agidel’, Ufimskie Zori, Kuril’skie Ostrova, Shirley Temple, M-me Calot, M-me Claude Tain, Goldich. The analysis of weather conditions in the years of research is given. Varieties that are resistant to adverse conditions are identified, their significance is determined and in the future the possibility of propagation and use in landscaping, as well as preservation in collection stands. Ideja srodstva cjelokupne prirode nije bila ekskluzivno italska paradigma, nego se njeni tragovi mogu pronaći i u jonskoj tradiciji. Anaksagora je usvojio općerašireno gledište da je život najprije nastao iz vlage, topline i nečeg zemljolikog tj. zemljanog, a kasnije su se živa bića rađala jedna od drugih. On je pretpostavljao da se u svemu što se sjedinjuje nalaze mnoge i svakojake stvari, i neizmjerna raznolikost „sjemena”, i da su tako ljudi bili oblikovani i druga živa bića koja imaju dušu. Kada je, potom, postulirao Um (νοῦς) kao arche svega kretanja, Klazomenjanin je povezao sve slojeve zbiljnosti. Nous je za živa bića bio svojevrsna unutarnja moć, dok je za nežive stvari bio vanjska sila. Nije, zato, iznenađenje kad se pronađu mjesta na kojima stoji da i biljke posjeduju neki stupanj opažanja i mišljenja. Osim toga, Anaksagora (i Empedoklo) kažu da se biljke pokreću po prirodnoj žudnji, da osjećaju i da se žaloste i vesele. Anaksagora iznosi i stav da su biljke životinje (ζῷα εἶναι), a kao dokaz izrečene tvrdnje da biljke mogu osjećati „tugu i radost” (λυπεῖσθσαι καὶ ἥδεσθαι), navodi mijenjanje lišća. Usprkos argumentaciji drugih antičkih mislilaca da biljke i mnoge životinje ne dišu, filozof iz Klazomene držao je da biljke imaju disanje (πνοήν). Anaksagora je, štoviše, u (Pseudo) Aristotelovu spisu O biljkama, predstavljen, zajedno s Empedoklom i Demokritom, kao zastupnik teze da biljke imaju Um i sposobnost shvaćanja (γνῶσιν). Um je, slijedeći Anaksagoru, prisutan u svim živim bićima (ljudima, životinjama i biljkama) i u svima je isti. Razlike među ovim bićima, konačno, nisu posljedica suštinske diferencije među njihovim dušama, već su posljedica razlika među njihovim tijelima, koja olakšavaju ili otežavaju potpunije djelovanje Nousa.

St Serafim of Sarov (1754–1833), though not widely known among western Christians, is one of the most popular saints in Russia and among Russians abroad. A discussion of his canonization in 1903 cannot avoid mention of some less than savoury aspects and conjuncts of his cult, but let it be said at the outset that nothing which follows changes the fact that he is both a hugely venerable and very attractive figure. Though a monk in a large monastery, he lived for years as a hermit in a neighbouring forest, loving to be unknown; but in the last years of his life, back in his monastery, he welcomed visitors, who queued in their hundreds outside his cell, day after day. A favourite greeting of his to address his visitors was moia radost (my joy). In the words of the synodal decree approving his canonization, ‘Spiritual joy had penetrated the starets so much that he was never seen to be sad or depressed, and this joyful mood of the soul he endeavoured to communicate to others.’ Equally impressive are such episodes in his life as the occasion when robbers beat him up, leaving him half-dead and with a permanent spinal injury: he not only forgave them but insisted they were not prosecuted, threatening that, if they were, he would leave the Sarov region for ever. Nothing I shall say can besmirch Serafim himself or the devotion to his memory of those who see him as a model of piety and an intercessor in time of need. But this does not alter the strange circumstances of his canonization, and it is these, not his sanctity, that are the subject of this paper.

Background. Among stone fruit plants, a special place belongs to bird cherry (Padus Mill.). As a food plant, it has found use in areas with harsh climate conditions. Since the breeding of bird cherry cultivars for food purposes continues to develop, there is a need to know the chemical composition of its fruits. The aim of this research was to study bird cherry in the environments of the Russian Northwest and isolate genotypes with an optimal biochemical composition for subsequent use.Materials and methods. Fruit composition in 21 accessions from the bird cherry collection was analyzed in 2009 and 2011–2013 at the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Laboratory of the N.I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources (VIR). Biochemical studies were performed using the methods adopted at VIR. Statistical processing of the data obtained was made using the Microsoft Excel software package.Results. The best genotypes were selected for each chemical component: for increased soluble solid content (SSC), accessions of Group I ‘Nevesta’ (29.63%), 1-1-8 (30.35), ‘Carpaty 5’ (30.87), ‘Chaika’ (33.9); for accumulation of sugars, ‘Granatovaya grozd’ (Group III; 12.13%), 1-1-8 (Gr. I; 12.5), ‘Pamyati Salamatova’ (Gr. IV; 12.8); for low acid content, ‘Sibirskaya krasavitsa’ (Gr. II; 1.03%), 1-1-8 (Gr. I; 1.14) ‘Granatovaya grozd’ (Gr. III; 1.17), ‘Zelenoplodnaya’ (Gr. I; 1.21), ‘Pozdnyaya radost’ (Gr. III; 1.25); for high content of ascorbic acid, 1-1-8 (Gr. I; 19.1 mg/100 g), ‘Sakhalinskaya chernaya’ (Gr. I; 19.35) ‘Rannyaya kruglaya’ (Gr. IV; 20.65), ‘Krasny shater’ (Gr. II; 21.23); for triterpene (ursolic, oleanolic) acids, ‘Cherny blesk’ (Gr. IV; 0.045%) and ‘Atica’ (Gr. I; 0.056).Conclusion. Significant differences were found in SSC between accessions of Groups I (P. avium) and II (P. avium × P. virginiana); and in the sugar/acid ratio (SAR), between I (P. avium) and IV (seedlings of cv. ‘Pamyati Salamatova’); II (P. avium × P. virginiana) and III (P. virginiana × P. avium); III (P. virginiana × P. avium) and IV (seedlings of cv. ‘Pamyati Sala matova’).

The purpose of the research was a comprehensive assessment of plum varieties and forms and revealing the most promising for commercial use. Plantations laid in the city of Michurinsk, Tambov region. The assessment of plum plants for frost resistance was carried out in the middle of winter (II component). The artificial freezing of l year old shoots was made in January during 12 hours at -38 °C. The least subfreezing of the wood (2.8 and 2.9) was observed in elite form 22-29 and control variety “Etyud”, respectively. The moderate resistance of tissues (the degree of injury not over 3) was observed in “Vengerka Kursakova” variety and elite form 29- 136. The subfreezing level of vegetative buds in all studied varieties and elite forms did not exceed 2.5. The freezing at -38°C causes complete death of generative organs in all accessions. On the background of mass development of fungal diseases during the growing season 2016 because of high humidity and a deficit of positive temperatures and on the base of visual registration in field – the high resistant forms to Clasterosporium (“Vengerka Kursakova”) and to Monilia (22-29) were singled out. The intensity of fungal diseases in given accessions did not exceed 2 points. The highest productivity (7.43 t/ha) averagely during the years of investigations was found in “Vengerka Kursakova” variety and the data exceeded substantially the control one. The highest fruit weight occurred to be in “Radost” and “Artistichnaya” varieties with 40.3 and 40.8 g respectively and maximum values 51.7-52.3 g. The large-fruited group included the varieties “Etyud”, “Vengerka Kursakova” and elite form 29-136 where the maximum weight varied from 38.1 to 41.6 g. The varieties “Vengerka Kursakova”, “Dubravnaya”, “Artistichnaya” distinguished by sweet and sour fruit taste (tasting, assessment 4.4) and high commodity-consumer qualities of fruits. A promising plum variety “Vengerka Kursakova”, for use in industrial plantations of the Central Black Earth Region, was identified.

The multiplicity of targets of the 5G and further future technologies, set by the modern societies and industry, lacks the establishment of design methods for the highly multidisciplinary application of wireless platforms for small cells. Constraints are set by the overall energy concept, structural safety and sustainability. Various Smart poles and Light poles exist but it is challenging to define the design drivers especially for a composite load-carrying structure. In this study, the design drivers of a composite 5G smart pole are determined and the connecting design between finite element modelling (FEM), signal penetration and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for thermal analysis are reported as an interdisciplinary process. The results emphasize the significant effects of thermal loading on the material selection. The physical architecture, including various cutouts, is manipulated by the needs of the mmW radios, structural safety and the societal preferences of sustainable city planning, i.e., heat management and aesthetic reasons. Finally, the paint thickness and paint type must be optimized due to radome-integrated radios. In the future, sustainability regulations and realized business models will define the cost-structure and the response by customers.

Abstract The common methods for patient dose estimations in computed tomography (CT) are thermoluminescence dosemeter (TLD) measurements or the usage of software packages based on Monte Carlo simulations like CT-Expo or the newer CTVoxDos, which uses the ICRP Reference Adult Male (ICRP 110). Organ (OD) and effective doses of a CT protocol of the upper abdomen are compared. Compared to CTVoxDos, ODs inferred by TLD measurement using an anthropomorphic phantom differ by $\mathbf{(19\pm 16)\,\%}$ inside the primary radiation field, $\mathbf{(14\pm 2)\,\%}$ for partially primary irradiated organs and $\mathbf{(34\pm 38)\,\%}$ in the scattered radiation field. ODs estimated by CT-Expo show a mean deviation of $\mathbf{(16\pm 9)\,\%}$ (primary irradiated) and $\mathbf{(28\pm 31)\,\%}$ (scatter irradiated) from ODs estimated by CTVoxDos.

Abstract The purpose of this study was to establish the diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) for paediatric head computed tomography (CT) in Morocco and to assess the effective doses received during head CT examinations. The data of 1007 patients were collected retrospectively from Moroccan university children’s hospitals. The sample was classified per age group:<1, 1–5, 5–10 and 10–15 years. The proposed DRLs were defined as 75th percentile of the distributions, which were in terms of CT dose index of 26.98, 28.88, 34.00 and 38.20 mGy and dose length product of 461.64, 540.06, 627.20 and 705.98 mGy.cm, respectively. The effective doses estimated were 3.6, 2.9, 2 and 1.79 mSv, respectively. The DRLs reported in Morocco were compared with those of other countries, which were based on the same age grouping method, including Thailand, Switzerland, Japan and the international DRLs. Our initiative via the determination of the first Moroccan diagnostic reference levels for paediatric head CT must be a starting point to spread this investigation towards other examinations and imaging modalities.

Abstract Linearity of response belongs to fundamental characteristics of neutron detection systems. Research reactors are valuable tools for neutron detector non-linearity studies as they offer a wide range of neutron fluxes. For neutron detection systems working in pulse mode they enable to characterise detector response non-linearity from some hundreds of cps up to the maximum reachable count rates. The paper presents comparison of two methods for neutron pulse-mode detector non-linearity characterisation using VR-1 zero power reactor: (1) comparative method utilising the comparison of studied pulse-mode detection system with a response of gamma compensated ionisation chamber working in current mode, and (2) kinetics method utilising the asymptotic exponential power rise after positive reactivity insertion as a source of information on true signal. Further several approaches for dead time determination based on theoretical formulae describing paralysable and non-paralysable dead time behaviour of detectors were studied and their usability to characterise the count-rate dependent detector response was analysed.

Abstract A method has been proposed to evaluate the kinetic parameters, viz. activation energy ($E$) and order of kinetics ($b$) from a single or isolated thermoluminescence (TL) glow peak. Along with the area under the entire curve, this method uses a set of three arbitrary data points and calculates the partial area under the curve from each point to the endpoint. In this way, the entire information associated with the curve is used and the method is named as ‘Three-Point Area’ (TPA) method. We have applied it successfully on a number of theoretically simulated TL curves generated in One Trap One Recombination centre (OTOR) model and General-Order Kinetics (GOK) model under quasi-equilibrium approximations with linear heating scheme. The activation energies are found in good agreement with input values for both the models. For OTOR model, temperature average of order of kinetics is estimated to compare with the present result. Systematic analysis is carried out for estimation of errors inherent in the method in the purview of GOK model. A closer look on the results reveals that any set of three points, preferably chosen from the rising side of the curve, can yield activation energy and order of kinetics. The validity of the method to extract $E$ and $b$ from experimental glow curves is exemplified by considering experimental TL data reported in literature. Finally, a complete study starting from the synthesis of a new phosphor $\mathrm{K_2SrP_2O_7:Pr} $ and analysis of the recorded TL data to estimate $E$ and $b$ employing the TPA method has been reported.

Raytheon Co.’s radio and terminal business in Fort Wayne, Ind., a unit of the Command, Control and Communication Systems division, believes MEMS will help produce highly efficient, software-controlled, digital radios for the military. The MEMS devices would replace solid-state switches and their associated components used to switch frequencies in communications systems. With fewer components, size, weight, and power consumption will shrink. The pursuit of a MEMS relay has developers experimenting with various actuating mechanisms and researching the materials and fabrication challenges associated with those mechanisms. Radant Technology plans to incorporate the Analog Devices design in a balloon-borne radar antenna that will scan for incoming cruise missiles from a height of 15,000 feet.

Twelve amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) primer combinations and 10 inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) primers were applied to estimate genetic diversity among 68 varieties of cultivated radish (Raphanus sativus L.). The material consisted of open-pollinated varieties, inbred lines, diploid and a few tetraploid hybrid varieties of garden radish [R. sativus var. sativus DC. convar. radicula (DC.) Alef.] and black radish [R. sativus var. niger (Mill.) Pers.]. Two accessions of uncultivated relatives of radish that as weeds cause serious contamination during the process of hybrid radish production were added to the analyses. Polymorphic fragments were scored for calculation of Jaccard's coefficient of genetic similarity (GS). Substantial level of genetic variability (average AFLP-based GS = 0.70; average ISSR-based GS = 0.61) was detected in the available germplasm of cultivated radish. Cluster analyses separated two weedy species from the cultivated germplasm. Within cultivated material, black radish and french breakfast radish types formed separate clusters. Based on AFLP data, a principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) and model-based approach revealed the genetic structure within cultivated radish germplasm and indicated the existence of divergent pools. Although the model-based approach did not separate black radish from french breakfast radish varieties, it offered a clear sub-division within garden radish germplasm. The results of this study may be relevant for hybrid radish breeding.

Abstract Results on the transmission loss of a dry and a wet C-band weather radar radome at different rain intensities are presented. Two methods were used in the study, both carried out under laboratory conditions. In the first method, the complex permittivity of a dry radome is measured and the transmission loss calculated. To analyze the transmission loss of a wet radome, the thickness of a continuous water layer on the surface of a radome at different rain intensities and the complex permittivity of water are calculated. In the second method, the transmission loss is measured as a free space transmission measurement with a 1.3-m2 piece of a radome panel. The piece is measured as dry and as doused by a rain system designed for the measurements. The measurements are performed with a dirty, cleaned, and waxed radome to examine the effects of maintenance measures with an old radome on the transmission loss. Because the transmission loss as a function of rain intensity is measured with a small piece of radome, a method is developed to scale the free space measurements for a complete 6.7-m-diameter radome with equal dielectric properties. Results of the one-way transmission loss of a dry radome with the permittivity and free space measurements are in a good agreement (0.34 and 0.35 dB, respectively). According to the analysis, a continuous water layer on a radome has a significant influence on the transmission loss. A 3-dB two-way transmission loss caused by a dirty radome is observed at a rain intensity of 15.1 mm h−1. Waxing gives promising results in reducing the wet radome loss because the waxing prevents the formation of a continuous water layer on the surface of the radome.

Vascular disease poses a major public health problem worldwide. Trigonelline isolated from Raphanus sativus cv. Sakurajima Daikon (Sakurajima radish) induces nitric oxide production from vascular endothelial cells and enhances vascular function. Here, we investigated the characteristics of trigonelline and its effects on endothelial function after consumption of Sakurajima radish by humans. Our results show that Sakurajima radish contains approximately 60 times more trigonelline than other radishes and squashes. Additionally, no significant differences were observed between varieties of Sakurajima radish, suggesting that any type of Sakurajima radish can be ingested for trigonelline supplementation. The effects of cooking and processing Sakurajima radish were also evaluated, as were the effects of freezing, and changes in osmotic pressure and pH. A first-in-human trial using Sakurajima radish showed that ingestion of 170 g/day of Sakurajima radish for ten days increased blood trigonelline concentrations and significantly improved flow-mediated dilation, which is a measure of vascular endothelial function. Overall, our findings suggest that the trigonelline contained in Sakurajima radish may contribute to improved human vascular endothelial function. Hence, Sakurajima radish may enhance vascular endothelial function as a functional food.

<p class="TTPAbstract">This paper investigates the quasi static compression analysis behavior of a biocomposite radome using nonlinear static modeling. Bio-based fiber is proposed to be used in aircraft radome due to its low dielectric constant. In this instance, kenaf was being utilized as the natural fiber to form a hybrid combination of fiberglass/kenaf epoxy laminates. The quasi static behavior was modeled using MDNastran SOL106 Nonlinear Static. The radome was modeled as a hemispherical shell based on Beechcraft’s radome geometric configuration. The radome is designed as a four-layered laminates with randomly oriented fiberglass and kenaf. The nonlinear compression was performed in the range of 0.01 mm to 0.49 mm with a maximum reaction force of 189 N. The radome was not displaced equally or symmetrically as the translational load applied since the shape of radome is asymmetry and the surface at the top is uneven. The increment of the forces leads to elastic local flattening deformation at the apex of the radome. Its shape influences in determining the displacement and the stress to the radome.</p>

Red radish (Raphanus sativus L.) cultivars are a rich source of health-promoting anthocyanins and are considered a potential source of natural colorants used in the cosmetic industry. However, the development of red radish cultivars via conventional breeding is very difficult, given the unusual inheritance of the anthocyanin accumulation trait in radishes. Therefore, molecular markers linked with radish color are needed to facilitate radish breeding. Here, we characterized the RsTT8 gene isolated from four radish genotypes with different skin and flesh colors. Sequence analysis of RsTT8 revealed a large number of polymorphisms, including insertion/deletions (InDels), single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), and simple sequence repeats (SSRs), between the red-fleshed and white-fleshed radish cultivars. To develop molecular markers on the basis of these polymorphisms for discriminating between radish genotypes with different colored flesh tissues, we designed four primer sets specific to the RsTT8 promoter, InDel, SSR, and WD40/acidic domain (WD/AD), and tested these primers on a diverse collection of radish lines. Except for the SSR-specific primer set, all primer sets successfully discriminated between red-fleshed and white-fleshed radish lines. Thus, we developed three molecular markers that can be efficiently used for breeding red-fleshed radish cultivars.

Abstract Oilseed radish is resistant to the beet cyst nematode (Heterodera schachtii Schmidt), interrupting the life cycle of this sedentary pathogen by blocking feeding cell development in the root. A complete set of nine disomic rape-radish chromosome additions, a to i, derived from a susceptible rapeseed parent as recipient and a resistant radish as chromosome donor, was assayed for nematode resistance. The addition line d exhibited the resistance level of the radish parent, confirming previous results that radish chromosome d carries a dominant gene, Hs1Rph, for nematode resistance. It was investigated if Hs1Rph is effective against a further important sedentary parasite, the northern root-knot nematode Meloidogyne hapla. The set of chromosome addition lines and the parents, rape and radish, were inoculated with second-stage juveniles (J2) of M. hapla and the plant reaction was evaluated by counting the number of egg masses per root system. By contrast to the situation in H. schachtii, the radish parent as well as addition line d showed no resistance against M. hapla and was even more susceptible than rape. It was concluded that the resistance gene Hs1Rph, which inhibits syncytium development of H. schachtii, is ineffective against M. hapla, a nematode inducing giant cell formation. Most added radish chromosomes significantly changed the number of egg masses in the recipient rape towards higher susceptibility. Two chromosomes enhanced the egg mass number beyond that of the chromosome donor radish. However, one radish chromosome decreased the egg mass production in the corresponding addition line below that in rape. This wide range of effects of the individual radish chromosomes in the rape background indicates a quantitative inheritance of host suitability to M. hapla and a complex interaction between the pathogen and radish.

It is imperative that high-speed multimedia would be an attractive application field with these radios. Audio over 802.15.4 compliant radios is a challenging task to achieve. This paper describes a real-time implementation of audio communication using 802.15.4 radios. Silence detection and soft ADPCM are the main features of our work. Our results show that silence detection improves bandwidth optimization and audio communication performance over low bit-rate radios.

AbstractIn this paper, a self-actuated frequency-selective radome is presented and applied to a microstrip antenna. The radome acts as a self-triggered switchable screen to achieve adaptive electromagnetic protection in the L band. A prototype of the radome is fabricated to measure its transmission performance. The switchable characteristic is verified by a high-power radiation experiment carried out in a waveguide system. Besides, the antenna is placed under the radome to realize integration analysis, and the radiation performance of the composite antenna radome is measured in the anechoic chamber.

A monolithic half-wave radome panel, centrally loaded with aperture-type single square loop frequency selective surface (SSL-FSS), is proposed here for broadband airborne radome applications. Equivalent transmission line method in conjunction with equivalent circuit model (ECM) is used for modeling the SSL-FSS embedded monolithic half-wave radome panel and evaluating radome performance parameters. The design parameters of the SSL-FSS are optimized at different angles of incidence such that the new radome wall configuration offers superior EM performance from L-band to X-band as compared to the conventional monolithic half-wave slab of identical material and thickness. The superior EM performance of SSL-FSS embedded monolithic radome wall makes it suitable for the design of normal incidence and streamlined airborne radomes.

The paper considers the characteristics determination method basing on amplifasometric measurements of near field of the «antenna-radio-transparent radome» system with use of a spherical scanner. The method is based on determination of components of the amplitude spectra of homogeneous plane waves through the amplitudes of vector spherical waves of the tested antenna and the «antenna-radio-transparent radome» system. It is assumed that the radome has a regular surface shape and is a single-layer radome. The proposed method, in addition to determination of radiation characteristics, allows for the given antenna field polarization to determine the complex coefficient of passage thorough the radome as a function of spatial frequencies. It is also shown that it is possible to estimate the complex dielectric permittivity of a single-layer radome, both by calculating the components of uniform plane waves, and directly from the reduced field components on the outer surface of radome. Ways to study the radiophysical characteristics of theradom, are proposed.

This paper studies a fuze radome system applied to millimeter waves. The system consists of feed antenna, radome, planar FSS array or curve conformal array. Microstrip antenna is used as the feed antenna. Based on the principle of equispaced and equal period respectively, cross units loading single layer dielectric form planar and curve FSS array. The FSS radome system can improve the permeability of hood to electromagnetic waves (EM) of passband, and reduce the interference of complex EM in the external environment to the system. The FSS radome will not deteriorate radiation characteristics of the feed antenna. The planar FSS radome has a passband of 98.2 GHz to 101.55 GHz with -10dB relative bandwidth of 3.35%. The curve FSS radome has a passband of 96.3 GHz to 101.8 GHz with -10dB relative bandwidth of 5.5%. In addition, the radiation characteristics of the proposed system are analyzed. It is found that the radiation pattern of the antenna is basically consistency before and after loading the radome.

Wild radish is a major weed of field crops in southern Australia. The effects of various densities of wild radish and wheat on the growth and reproductive output of each other were investigated in field studies in 2003 and 2004. The experiments were established as a factorial combination of wheat (0, 100, 200, and 400 plants m−2) and wild radish (0, 15, 30, and 60 plants m−2) densities. The effect of wild radish density on wheat yield loss and wild radish seed production were described with a rectangular hyperbola model. The presence of wild radish in wheat reduced aboveground dry matter, leaf-area index (LAI), and grain yield of wheat, and the magnitude of this reduction was dependent on weed density. Increasing the density of wheat substantially reduced the adverse effects of wild radish on wheat. As crop density increased, wild radish dry matter, LAI, and seed production per unit area decreased. The maximum seed production of wild radish was achieved at its highest density (60 plants m−2), and was 43,300 and 61,200 seeds m−2for the first and second year, respectively. The results indicated that higher densities of wheat were able to suppress seed production of this weed species. From a practical viewpoint, this study shows that increased wheat density in the range of 200 to 400 wheat plants m−2can reduce wild radish seed production and also give some reduction in crop yield loss, and could be an important component of an integrated weed management program.
