I thank the contributors for their comments. We all agree that the Jerimalai data provide an intriguing glimpse of maritime activity in the Wallacean Pleistocene by showing that Scombridae were unusually prominent amongst 15 families of fish that had been caught around 40 000 BP. In various ways, we also agree that the hypothesis interpreting these data in O'Connor et al. (2011) is far from robust. Its fundamental proposition was that the scombrids were oceanic tuna, but O'Connor and Ono (above) now concede that, 'as we did not speciate [sic] the scombrids at Jerimalai we cannot be certain tha

Abstract Marine fisheries play a crucial role in food security and livelihoods but face challenges from overfishing and environmental changes. This study assessed fish composition, abundance, fishing gear usage, and catch per unit effort (CPUE) at three key landing sites in Cabalian Bay, Philippines. Seventy-three fish species from 31 families were recorded, with the dominance of Carangidae (11%) and Scombridae (10%). Monthly fish catch data reveal fluctuations in fish abundance, with Scombridae consistently recording the highest catches, particularly in August, December, and January. Hook-and

The Authors described a case of scombroid poisoning in a 14-year-old atopic boy, initially misdiagnosed as allergic urticaria. Scombroid poisoning is a poorly known type of food poisoning due to the presence of histamine in spoiled fish of the Scombridae family. The patient presented with an itchy truncal rash after eating a pizza with tuna. The antihistamine therapy was promptly effective.

Abstract Pumiliopes scombri Izawa, 2021 is redescribed based on specimens of both sexes recovered from the bucco-branchial cavity of the chub mackerel, Scomber japonicus Houttuyn, 1782 (Scombriformes, Scombridae), in Japan. The male of the species is described for the first time. The description of the male is also the first time for the genus. This genus is unique in having an antenna that is sexually dimorphic.
