Background: A decrease in skin elasticity is a problem often complained of, especially by women. Changes in some of the structure and elasticity of the skin occur with age as a result of reduced production of natural oils and skin collagen. There are several ways to increase skin elasticity, including by stimulating collagen. One of them is by using topical skin care such as using a moisturizer that suits skin type. Aim: This study intends to determine the effect of effleurage in the application of moisturizer on skin elasticity. Method: The research design was a randomized controlled-trial wi

Introduction Involvement of the palmar skin is often seen in patients with Dupuytren’s disease (DD) with severe finger contractures. However, skin elasticity may be already decreased earlier in the disease. The Cutometer MPA 580 could provide an objective skin measurement tool to assess this decrease in elasticity. Linking objective skin measurements to functional outcome measures could lead to better prediction of disease progression. We set up a study to investigate if the Cutometer was able to detect differences in skin elasticity between patients with mild Dupuytren’s disease and healthy c

The authors have investigated the theory of loss of skin elasticity in conditions of chronic venous insufficiency and have attempted to establish a possible link between the mechanical properties of the skin and the venous wall. They conclude that while diminished skin elasticity is found in conjunction with reticular varicose veins, there is no correlation with truncal varicocities. They suggest therefore that different aetiological factors are concerned in truncal and reticular varicose veins.

Mechanical properties and hyperelastic behavior were assessed using ASTM D412 type-C standard and a 40 mm/min tensile test. Set A shows higher tensile stress (0.072 MPa) and higher tensile strain (1.1324) than Sets B and C. The Mooney-Rivlin and Ogden models we

This study aimed to quantify the effects on skin elasticity. Methods: Skin retraction time was used as a marker of skin elasticity in 13 irradiated breast cancer patients. The measurements were carried out on the affected side as well as the unaffected/healthy side at a mirrored location. Readings were taken at the start and end of HBOT (mean 43 sessions, 80 min at 243 kPa). Results: Patient age ranged from 39-70 years. All patients underwent surgical lump

Hyaluronan (HA) is present in all connective tissues and organs, including the skin and joint fluid. However, few clinical trials have comprehensively evaluated the impacts of oral HA on skin conditions, including wrinkles and moisturization. In this study, we conducted a placebo-controlled, randomized, double-blind trial of daily HA (120 mg) intake for 12 weeks in 40 healthy Asian men and women (aged 35–64 years). Skin condition was determined by the evaluation of wrinkles, stratum corneum water content, the amount of transepidermal water loss, elasticity, and through image analysis. After 12

UVB exposure primarily affects the epidermis, which leads to wrinkle formation, loss of skin elasticity, oxidative stress, and inflammation. Prolonged or intense UVB exposure can increase the risk of skin cancer. Collagen peptides are known as functional foods that improve skin dryness and wound healing. In this study, we aimed to investigate the protective and ameliorative effects of a low-molecular-weight collagen peptide (LMWCP) with a high absorption rate and photodamage. In vitro analy

Oxidative stress-induced cellular senescence and mitochondrial dysfunction result in skin aging by increasing ECM levels-degrading proteins such as MMPs, and decreasing collagen synthesis. MMPs also destroy the basement membrane, which is involved in skin elasticity. The extracellular matrix vitalizer RATM (RA) contains various antioxidants and sodium hyaluronate, which lead to skin rejuvenation. We evaluated whether RA decreases oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction, eventually increasing skin elasticity in aged animals. Oxidative stress was assessed by assaying NADPH oxidase activit
