Despite progress in understanding the pathophysiology of acute lung damage, currently approved treatment possibilities are limited to lung-protective ventilation, prone positioning, and supportive interventions. Various pharmacological approaches have also been tested, with neuromuscular blockers and corticosteroids considered as the most promising. However, inhibitors of phosphodiesterases (PDEs) also exert a broad spectrum of favorable effects potentially beneficial in acute lung damage. This article reviews pharmacological action and therapeutical potential of nonselective and selective PDE inhibitors and summarizes the results from available studies focused on the use of PDE inhibitors in animal models and clinical studies, including their adverse effects. The data suggest that xanthines as representatives of nonselective PDE inhibitors may reduce acute lung damage, and decrease mortality and length of hospital stay. Various (selective) PDE3, PDE4, and PDE5 inhibitors have also demonstrated stabilization of the pulmonary epithelial–endothelial barrier and reduction the sepsis- and inflammation-increased microvascular permeability, and suppression of the production of inflammatory mediators, which finally resulted in improved oxygenation and ventilatory parameters. However, the current lack of sufficient clinical evidence limits their recommendation for a broader use. A separate chapter focuses on involvement of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and PDE-related changes in its metabolism in association with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The chapter illuminates perspectives of the use of PDE inhibitors as an add-on treatment based on actual experimental and clinical trials with preliminary data suggesting their potential benefit.

The energy shaping method, Controlled Lagrangian, is a well-known approach to stabilize the underactuated Euler Lagrange (EL) systems. In this approach, to construct a control rule, some nonlinear and nonhomogeneous partial differential equations (PDEs), which are called matching conditions, must be solved. In this paper, a method is proposed to obtain an approximate solution of these matching conditions for a class of underactuated EL systems. To develop this method, the potential energy matching condition is transformed to a set of linear PDEs using an approximation of inertia matrices. Hence, the assignable potential energy function and the controlled inertia matrix both are constructed as a common solution of these PDEs. Subsequently, the gyroscopic and dissipative forces are determined as the solution for kinetic energy matching condition. Conclusively, the control rule is constructed by adding energy shaping rule and additional dissipation injection to provide asymptotic stability. The stability analysis of the closed-loop system which used the control rule derived with the proposed method is also provided. To demonstrate the success of the proposed method, the stability problem of the inverted pendulum on a cart is considered.

Ce manuscrit se décompose en deux parties principales, associées à deux types d'applications assez différentes. Dans la première partie qui comprend les deux premiers chapitres, je m'intéresse à des systèmes issus de problèmes de contrôle et d'estimation en physique quantique; dans la deuxième partie (troisième chapitre du manuscrit), j'étudie la propagation d'ondes électriques le long des fils classiques dans un réseau de lignes de transmission et je considère certains problèmes d'estimation de paramètres. Dans le premier chapitre nous étudions le problème de la planification de trajectoires pour des systèmes quantiques fermés modélisés par des équations de Schrödinger bilinéaire. Nous démontrons alors des résultats de la stabilisation approchée pour le cas d'une boite quantique infinie ainsi que pour le cas d'un potentiel décroissant. Dans les deux cas, le manque de pré-compacité des trajectoires dans des espaces fonctionnels appropriés nous oblige à proposer des méthodes de Lyapunov qui évitent des phénomènes de perte de masse à l'infini. Dans le deuxième chapitre nous étudions le problème de stabilisation de systèmes quantiques en observation. Cette observation nécessite l'ouverture du système à son environnement. Les modèles pertinents pour l'évolution de ce type de systèmes sont des modèles stochastiques basés sur des trajectoires de Monte-Carlo quantiques. Nous étudions alors certains problèmes de stabilisation qui parviennent de vraies expériences physiques. Enfin, dans le chapitre 3 nous considérons le problème d'estimation de paramètres pour un réseau de fils de câblage électrique. Dans ce but, nous étudions deux approches : l'approche temporelle et l'approche fréquentielle. Dans l'approche temporelle, nous considérons le réseau le plus simple qui consiste d'une seule ligne de transmission et nous proposons un algorithme d'identification pour l'équation d'onde associé qui est basé sur l'application des observateurs asymptotiques. Dans l'approche fréquentielle, nous considérons un réseau plus compliqué de la forme étoile. Nous proposons alors des résultats d'identifiabilité basés sur des techniques de l'inverse scattering.

Les équations des ondes et de Schrödinger modélisent une grande variété de phénomènes ondulatoires, tels que la propagation de la lumière, les vibrations d'un objet ou l'évolution temporelle d'une particule quantique. Dans ces modèles, l'asymptotique des hautes énergies peut être décrite par des équations de la mécanique classique, comme l'optique géométrique. Dans cette thèse, nous étudions plusieurs applications de la correspondance classique-quantique à des problèmes de contrôle des équations des ondes et de Schrödinger dans l'espace euclidien, en utilisant des méthodes d'analyse microlocale.Dans les deux premières parties, nous étudions l'équation des ondes amorties et l'équation de Schrödinger avec un potentiel confinant dans l'espace euclidien. Nous donnons des conditions nécessaires et suffisantes de stabilité uniforme pour la première, et d'observabilité pour la seconde. Ces conditions font intervenir la dynamique classique sous-jacente qui consiste en une optique géométrique tordue par la présence du potentiel.Nous analysons ensuite dans une troisième partie la correspondance classique-quantique dans un cadre général qui contient les deux problèmes mentionnés ci-dessus. Nous démontrons une version du théorème d'Egorov dans le formalisme des métriques sur l'espace des phases et du calcul de Weyl--Hörmander. On présente différents cadres d'application de ce théorème pour des équations de Schrödinger, de demi-ondes et de transport Wave and Schrödinger equations model a variety of phenomena, such as propagation of light, vibrating structures or the time evolution of a quantum particle. In these models, the high-energy asymptotics can be approximated by classical mechanics, as geometric optics. In this thesis, we study several applications of this principle to control problems for wave and Schrödinger equations in the Euclidean space, using microlocal analysis.In the first two chapters, we study the damped wave equation and the Schrödinger equation with a confining potential in the euclidean space. We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for uniform stability in the first case, or observability in the second one. These conditions involve the underlying classical dynamics which consists in a distorted version of geometric optics, due to the presence of the potential.Then in the third part, we analyze the quantum-classical correspondence principle in a general setting that encompasses the two aforementioned problems. We prove a version of Egorov's theorem in the Weyl--Hörmander framework of metrics on the phase space. We provide with various examples of application of this theorem for Schrödinger, half-wave and transport equations

Le but de cette thèse est d'étudier la stabilisation de certaines équations d'évolution du second ordre. Tout d’abord, nous nous concentrons sur l’étude de la stabilisation d’équations d’évolution du second ordre de type hyperbolique localement faiblement couplées, caractérisées par un amortissement direct dans une seule des deux équations. Comme de tels systèmes ne sont pas exponentiellement stables, nous souhaitons déterminer les taux de décroissance de l’énergie polynomiale. Nos principales contributions concernent les propriétés abstraites de stabilité forte et polynomiale, qui sont dérivées des propriétés de stabilité de deux problèmes auxiliaires : l'équation avec amortissement unique et l'équation avec amortissement liée à l'opérateur de couplage. La principale nouveauté est que les taux de décroissance d'énergie polynomiale sont obtenus dans plusieurs situations importantes non abordées auparavant, y compris le cas où l'opérateur de couplage n'est ni partiellement coercitif ni nécessairement limité. Les principaux outils utilisés dans notre étude sont l’approche du domaine fréquentiel combinée à une nouvelle technique de multiplicateurs basée sur les solutions des équations résolvantes des problèmes auxiliaires susmentionnés. Le cadre abstrait développé est ensuite illustré par plusieurs exemples concrets non traités auparavant. Ensuite, la stabilisation d'une équation de plaque de Kirchhoff bidimensionnelle avec des conditions aux limites acoustiques généralisées est examinée. En employant une approche spectrale combinée à un critère général d'Arendt-Batty, nous établissons d'abord la forte stabilité de notre modèle. Nous prouvons ensuite que le système ne se dégrade pas de façon exponentielle. Cependant, à condition que les coefficients des conditions aux limites acoustiques satisfassent à certaines hypothèses, nous prouvons que l'énergie satisfait à différents taux de décroissance de l'énergie polynomiale en fonction du comportement de notre système auxiliaire. Nous étudions également le taux de décroissance sur les domaines satisfaisant aux conditions aux limites du multiplicateur. De plus, nous présentons quelques exemples appropriés et montrons que nos hypothèses ont été correctement définies. Enfin, nous considérons un problème de transmission d'ondes avec des conditions aux limites acoustiques généralisées dans un espace unidimensionnel, dont nous étudions la stabilité théoriquement et numériquement. Dans la partie théorique nous prouvons que notre système est fortement stable. Nous présentons ensuite divers taux de décroissance d'énergie polynomiale, à condition que les coefficients des conditions aux limites acoustiques satisfassent certaines hypothèses, nous donnons des exemples pertinents pour montrer que nos hypothèses sont correctes. Dans la partie numérique, nous étudions une approximation numérique de notre système utilisant la discrétisation en volumes finis dans un schéma à variables spatiales et différences finies dans le temps The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the stabilization of certain second order evolution equations. First, we focus on studying the stabilization of locally weakly coupled second order evolution equations of hyperbolic type, characterized by direct damping in only one of the two equations. As such systems are not exponentially stable , we are interested in determining polynomial energy decay rates. Our main contributions concern abstract strong and polynomial stability properties, which are derived from the stability properties of two auxiliary problems: the sole damped equation and the equation with a damping related to the coupling operator. The main novelty is thatthe polynomial energy decay rates are obtained in several important situations previously unaddressed, including the case where the coupling operator is neither partially coercive nor necessarily bounded. The main tools used in our study are the frequency domain approach combined with new multipliers technique based on the solutions of the resolvent equations of the aforementioned auxiliary problems. The abstract framework developed is then illustrated by several concrete examples not treated before. Next, the stabilization of a two-dimensional Kirchhoff plate equation with generalized acoustic boundary conditions is examined. Employing a spectrum approach combined with a general criteria of Arendt-Batty, we first establish the strong stability of our model. We then prove that the system doesn't decay exponentially. However, provided that the coefficients of the acoustic boundary conditions satisfy certain assumptions we prove that the energy satisfies varying polynomial energy decay rates depending on the behavior of our auxiliary system. We also investigate the decay rate on domains satisfying multiplier boundary conditions. Further, we present some appropriate examples and show that our assumptions have been set correctly. Finally, we consider a wave wave transmission problem with generalized acoustic boundary conditions in one dimensional space, where we investigate the stability theoretically and numerically. In the theoretical part we prove that our system is strongly stable. We then present diverse polynomial energy decay rates provided that the coefficients of the acoustic boundary conditions satisfy some assumptions. we give relevant examples to show that our assumptions are correct. In the numerical part, we study a numerical approximation of our system using finite volume discretization in a spatial variable and finite difference scheme in time

Ce travail est constitué de deux parties indépendantes traitant chacune d'un problème issu de la théorie du contrôle des équations aux dérivées partielles. La première partie est consacrée à l'étude d'un feedback explicite et déjà connu, s'appliquant à des systèmes linéaires, réversibles en temps et éventuellement munis d'un opérateur de contrôle non-borné. On justifie le caractère bien posé du problème en boucle fermée via la théorie des semi-groupes puis on étudie le taux de décroissance des solutions du système régulé. La seconde partie concerne un problème d'observation pour la corde vibrante : on détermine comment choisir des instants d'observation pour que la position de la corde à ces instants permette de retrouver les conditions initiales tout en préservant une certaine régularité. La méthode, qui repose sur des résultats d'approximation diophantienne, est ensuite étendue à d'autres systèmes. En utilisant une méthode de dualité on démontre aussi un résultat de contrôlabilité exacte.

Propagation of singularities for gravity-capillary water waves. arXiv preprint arXiv:1810.09339.Dans [1], nous avons étudié la stabilisation des ondes amorties sur les surfaces de révolution de Zoll. Nous avons donné un exemple où la région d’amortissement est à la limite de la condition du contrôle géométrique, alors que les ondes amorties présentent une décroissance exponentielle uniforme de l’énergie. Cet exemple généralise un résultat de Lebeau. Dans [2], nous avons étudié la contrôlabilité du système des ondes de surface avec tension superficielle. Nous avons démontré, en dimensions arbitraires, la contrôlabilité exacte pour des petites données spatialement périodiques à condition du contrôle géométriques. Ce résultat généralise le travail de Alazard, Baldi et Han-Kwan en dimension deux. Dans [3], nous avons étudié la propagation des singularités pour des ondes de surface avec tension superficielle. Nous avons défini le front d’onde quasi-homogène, généralisant le front d’onde de Hörmander et le front d’onde homogène de Nakamura et démontré des résultats de propagation des fronts d’onde quasi-homogènes par le système des ondes de surface avec tension superficielle. We gave an example where the region of damping is at the borderline of the geometric control condition, yet the damped waves exhibit a uniform exponential decay of energy, generalizing an example of Lebeau.In [2] we studied the controllability of the gravity-capillary water wave equation. Under the geometric control condition, we proved in arbitrary spatial dimension the exact controllability for spatially periodic small data. This generalizes a result of Alazard, Baldi and Han-Kwan for the 2D gravity-capillary water wave equation.In [3] we studied the propagation of singularities for the gravity-capillary water wave equation. We defined the quasi-homogeneous wavefront set, generalizing the wavefront set of H¨ ormander and the homogeneous wavefront set of Nakamura, and proved propagation results for quasi-homogeneous wavefront sets by the gravity-capillary water wave equation. As corollaries, we obtained local and microlocal smoothing effects for gravity-capillary water waves with sufficient spatial decay

Cette thèse est consacrée à l'étude de l'existence, l'unicité et la régularité des solutions, et la stabilisation de certains systèmes localement couplés. Tout d'abord, nous étudions l'existence, l'unicité et la régularité des solutions et la stabilité d'un système de Timoshenko unidimensionnel avec un amortissement fractionnaire interne localisé de Kelvin-Voigt dans un domaine borné. Nous étudions trois cas : le premier, lorsque l'amortissement est localisé dans le moment de flexion, le deuxième lorsque l'amortissement est localisé dans la contrainte de cisaillement, nous prouvons que le système est bien posé au sens des semigroupes theory et l'énergie du système décroît polynômialement. En revanche, lorsque le Kelvin-Voigt fractionnaire agit simultanément sur la contrainte de cisaillement et le moment de flexion, nous montrons que le système est bien posé au sens des semigroupes theory et il est polynômialement stable, à condition que les deux amortissements agissent dans le même sous-intervalle. Deuxièmement, nous considérons l'équation de la poutre de Rao-Nakra généralisée. Le système se compose de quatre équations d'ondes pour les déplacements longitudinaux et l'angle de cisaillement des couches supérieure et inférieure et d'une équation de poutre d'Euler-Bernoulli pour le déplacement transversal. On commence par montrer que le système est bien posé au sens des semigroupes theory. Ensuite, on traite la question de la stabilité. Tout d'abord, nous montrons que la stabilité analytique est assurée lorsque tous les déplacements sont globalement amortis par l'amortissement de Kelvin-Voigt. Ensuite, nous considérons le cas où l'amortissement local n'agit que sur les déplacements de l'angle de cisaillement des couches supérieure et inférieure, et nous obtenons des conditions suffisantes pour que le système soit fortement stable. En utilisant la méthode fréquentielle combinée avec la méthode des multiplicateurs, on montre que l'énergie du système décroît polynomialement. Enfin, nous étudions la stabilité d'un système de type Bresse dans la ligne entière avec un amortissement par frottement en travaillant uniquement sur la première équation (déplacement vertical). Nos objectifs sont de prouver certains résultats de stabilité et de non-stabilité en fonction des paramètres du système. Plus précisément, nous prouvons que, dans certains cas, le système est polynômialement stable, et dans d'autres cas, la solution ne converge pas du tout vers zéro. Les preuves sont basées sur la méthode de l'énergie et l'analyse de Fourier combinées avec certaines fonctions de poids bien choisies This thesis is devoted to study the well-posedness and stabilization of some locally coupled systems. First, we study the well-posedness and stability of a one-dimensional Timoshenko system with localized internal fractional Kelvin-Voigt damping in a bounded domain. We investigate three cases : the first one, when the damping is localized in the bending moment, the second case when the damping is localized in the shear stress, we prove that the system is well posed in the sense of semigroup theory and its energy decays polynomially with rate t−1 in both cases. While, when the fractional Kelvin-Voigt is acting on the shear stress and the bending moment simultaneously, we show that the system is well posed in the sense of semigroup theory and polynomially stable, provided that the two dampings are acting in the same sub-interval. Second, we consider the generalized Rao-Nakra beam equation. The system consists of four waveequations for the longitudinal displacements and the shear angle of the top and bottom layers and one Euler-Bernoulli beam equation for the transversal displacement. We start by proving that the system is well posed in the sense of semigroup theory. Then, we study the stability problem. First, we show that the analytic stability holds when all the displacements are globally damped through Kelvin-Voigt damping. Second, we consider the case where the local damping acts only on the shear angle displacements of the top and bottom layers, and we obtain sufficient conditions for the system to be stronglystable. Using frequency domain arguments combined with the multiplier method, we prove that the energy of the system decays polynomially. Finally, we investigate the stability of a Bresse-type system in the whole line with a frictional damping working only on the first equation (vertical displacement). Our objectives are proving some stability and non-stability results depending on the parameters in the system. More precisely, we prove that, in some cases, the system is polynomially stable, and in some other cases, the solution does not converge to zero at all. The proofs are based on the energy method and Fourier analysis combined with some well choosen weight functions

Dans cette thèse nous considérons l’équation des ondes amorties vectorielle sur une variété riemannienne compacte, lisse et sans bord. L’amortisseur est ici une fonction lisse allant de la variété dans l’espace des matrices hermitiennes de taille n. Les solutions de cette équation sont donc à valeurs vectorielles. Nous commençons dans un premier temps par calculer le meilleur taux de décroissance exponentiel de l’énergie en fonction du terme d’amortissement. Ceci nous permet d’obtenir une condition nécessaire et suffisante la stabilisation forte de l’équation des ondes amorties vectorielle. Nous mettons aussi en évidence l’apparition d’un phénomène de sur-amortissement haute fréquence qui n’existait pas dans le cas scalaire. Dans un second temps nous nous intéressons à la répartition asymptotique des fréquences propres de l’équation des ondes amorties vectorielle. Nous démontrons que, à un sous ensemble de densité nulle près, l’ensemble des fréquences propres est contenu dans une bande parallèle à l’axe imaginaire. La largeur de cette bande est déterminée par les exposants de Lyapunov d’un système dynamique défini à partir du coefficient d’amortissement In this thesis we are considering the vectorial damped wave equation on a compact and smooth Riemannian manifold without boundary. The damping term is a smooth function from the manifold to the space of Hermitian matrices of size n. The solutions of this équation are thus vectorial. We start by computing the best exponential energy decay rate of the solutions in terms of the damping term. This allows us to deduce a sufficient and necessary condition for strong stabilization of the vectorial damped wave equation. We also show the appearance of a new phenomenon of high-frequency overdamping that did not exists in the scalar case. In the second half of the thesis we look at the asymptotic distribution of eigenfrequencies of the vectorial damped wave equation. Were show that, up to a null density subset, all the eigenfrequencies are in a strip parallel to the imaginary axis. The width of this strip is determined by the Lyapunov exponents of a dynamical system defined from the damping term

碩士 國立臺北科技大學 自動化科技研究所 107 In this thesis, the problems of pointwise control design and exponential stabilization for the semilinear parabolic distributed parameter systems are investigated. Firstly, a distributed parameter system which is expressed by the nonlinear parabolic partial differential equation (PDE) system is modeled as a polynomial fuzzy parabolic PDE system by Taylor’s series identification approach. For controller design, three kinds of fuzzy controllers are designed for the polynomial fuzzy parabolic PDE system including full state feedback, pointwise state feedback, and collocated pointwise state feedback. By examining the stability analysis, based on the homogeneous polynomial Lyapunov function, Euler＇s homogeneous relation, and vector-valued Wirtinger's inequality, three different exponential stabilization conditions are proposed in terms of sum-of-squares (SOS). Lastly, a physical system and a numerical example are illustrated to show the feasibility and validity of the proposed methods.

Starting with a review of vector fields and their integral curves, the book presents the basic equations of the subject: Euler and Navier–Stokes. Some solutions are studied next: ideal flows using conformal transformations, viscous flows such as Couette and Stokes flow around a sphere, shocks in the Burgers equation. Prandtl’s boundary layer theory and the Blasius solution are presented. Rayleigh–Taylor instability is studied in analogy with the inverted pendulum, with a digression on Kapitza’s stabilization. The possibility of transients in a linearly stable system with a non-normal operator is studied using an example by Trefethen et al. The integrable models (KdV, Hasimoto’s vortex soliton) and their hamiltonian formalism are studied. Delving into deeper mathematics, geodesics on Lie groups are studied: first using the Lie algebra and then using Milnor’s approach to the curvature of the Lie group. Arnold’s deep idea that Euler’s equations are the geodesic equations on the diffeomorphism group is then explained and its curvature calculated. The next three chapters are an introduction to numerical methods: spectral methods based on Chebychev functions for ODEs, their application by Orszag to solve the Orr–Sommerfeld equation, finite difference methods for elementary PDEs, the Magnus formula and its application to geometric integrators for ODEs. Two appendices give an introduction to dynamical systems: Arnold’s cat map, homoclinic points, Smale’s horse shoe, Hausdorff dimension of the invariant set, Aref ’s example of chaotic advection. The last appendix introduces renormalization: Ising model on a Cayley tree and Feigenbaum’s theory of period doubling.

AbstractWe consider inverse parametric problems for elliptic variational PDEs. They are solved through the minimization of misfit functionals. Main difficulties encountered consist in the misfit multimodality and insensitivity as well as in the weak conditioning of the direct (forward) problem, that therefore requires stabilization. A complex multi-population memetic strategy hp-HMS combined with the Petrov-Galerkin method stabilized by the Demkowicz operator is proposed to overcome obstacles mentioned above. This paper delivers the theoretical motivation for the common inverse/forward error scaling, that can reduce significantly the computational cost of the whole strategy. A short illustrative numerical example is attached at the end of the paper.

In this paper, a problem of boundary feedback stabilization of second order hyperbolic partial differential equations (PDEs) is considered. These equations serve as a model for physical phenomena such as oscillatory systems like strings and beams. The controllers are designed using a backstepping method, which has been recently developed for parabolic PDEs. With the integral transformation and boundary feedback the unstable PDE is converted into a system which is stable in sense of Lyapunov. Then taylorian expansion is used to achieve the goal of trajectory tracking. It means design a boundary controller such that output of the system follows an arbitrary map. The designs are illustrated with simulations.

We consider the problem of output feedback exponentially stabilizing the 1-D bilayer Saint-Venant model, which is a coupled system of two rightward and two leftward convecting transport partial differential equations (PDEs). The PDE backstepping control method is employed. Our designed output feedback controller is based on the observer built in this paper and the state feedback controller designed in [1], where the backstepping control design idea can also be referred to [2] and can be treated as a generalization of the result for the system with constant system coefficients [2] to the one with spatially-varying coefficients. Numerical simulations of the bilayer Saint-Venant problem are also provided to verify the result.
