This research briefly summarizes a series of Ohio Supreme Court litigation known as DeRolph v. State and then measures the equality of expenditures among Ohio school districts. DeRolph v. State was a high-profile school finance adequacy case. Nevertheless, the high court continuously expressed concern for the financial well-being of poor school districts and notated that school finance equity was important to the provision of educational opportunities. This study is the first to explore the relationship between school district income taxes and school inputs (expenditures and student–teacher ratios) using Ohio as a case study. The study employed reduced-form expenditure functions on a data panel of 609 school districts between 1990 and 2010. Treating for the endogeneity of school district income taxes, we found that income tax adopters in Ohio spent $0.20 of a dollar of the tax revenue on operating purposes, and they spent four-fifths of this $0.20 on instructional services that were likely to induce gains in student achievement. Nathaniel Jones was born May 12, 1926, in Youngstown, Ohio, and served as the general counsel for the NAACP from 1969–1979. During that time, he litigated the Milliken v. Bradley I case before the U.S. District Court in 1971 and the U.S. Supreme Court in 1974. In 1979, President Jimmy Carter nominated Nathaniel Jones to the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and at 87 years of age, he still serves as a retired senior judge for the court. Our conversation with the Honorable Judge Nathaniel Jones entails his reflections about Milliken 40 years later, origins of his involvement in the case, and

Background/Context The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA, 2004) requires that all students with disabilities (SWD) receive a free, appropriate public education designed to meet their unique needs to prepare them for post-school education and employment (American Psychological Association, 2018). In the past two decades, momentum has grown for a supplementary idea: that schools be held accountable for SWD achieving grade-level standards. Thus standards-based reform for SWD is often caught between ideals of standardization and principles of differentiation. Purpose and Research Q

The research in Education in past few years is mostly focused on correlation between the teacher’s self-efficacy and students’ academic achievement. However, there was no such research conducted in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Being a resident of AJK, my research addresses how educational achievements of the students boost by the teacher’s self-efficacy. This study aims to determine this relationship at secondary level in Muzaffarabad district. For this purpose, I selected 250 secondary school teachers and their students via multi cluster sampling technique. The research is primary in nature, data

Background/Context This article examines a 2011 court case in which an Ohio state court convicted and jailed a poor, single, Black mother of two school-aged children for “stealing an education.” Using a false address, the mother, Kelley Williams-Bolar, enrolled her daughters in a public school district that was more privileged and amply resourced than their home district in order to provide her children a “better education.” The court's ruling and public opinion on this case (as illustrated through media) serve as the context of this article's analysis. For decades, researchers have been concerned with house price modeling, and recognition has grown for the necessity of considering environmental and contextual variables in the process. This research examines the association between neighborhood characteristics and all individual house sale prices in Lucas County, Ohio, from 2012 to 2016, through a multilevel modeling (MLM) approach. Although there are various ways to define neighborhoods, census tracts and school districts are used in this study. Neighborhood characteristics include a foreclosure score, race heterogeneity, median household in

Responding to a perceived shortage of school superintendents in Ohio as well as elsewhere in the nation, this study examined the conditions of the job that make it attractive or unattractive as a career move for principals. The researchers surveyed a random sample of Ohio principals, receiving usable responses from 508 of these administrators. Analysis of the data revealed that principals perceived the ability to make a difference and the extrinsic motivators (e.g., salary and benefits) associated with the superintendency as conditions salient to the decision to pursue such a job.
