The 11-year cycle in solar activity evident in sunspot numbers is the most examined example of periodicity, and it is clearly recognized in variations in the thermal structure and dynamical motion of the stratospheric atmosphere. Also the variations in the stratosphere related to the period of apparent solar rotation have also been suggested; however, for such a short period, no quantitative evidence indicating a relationship to the tropospheric phenomena. I argue that textual variations between Ad Quirinum and Cyprian’s letters and treatises do not rule out Cyprian being the compiler, as similar variations also occur in Cyprian’s uncontested works. ABSTRACT Mono Lake is an alkaline hypersaline lake that supports high methane oxidation rates. Retrieved pmoA sequences showed a broad diversity of aerobic methane oxidizers including the type I methanotrophs Methylobacter (the dominant genus), Methylomicrobium, and Methylothermus, and the type II methanotroph Methylocystis. Stratification of Mono Lake resulted in variation of aerobic methane oxidation rates with depth. Methanotroph diversity as determined by analysis of pmoA using new denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis primers suggested that variations in methane oxidation activity may c

AbstractAnalysis of flare spectra obtained with the Bent Crystal Spectrometer aboard the Solar Maximum Mission (SMM) satellite enables the determination of the fluxes in the resonance (w) line of Ca XIX and the near-by continuum. The line-to-continuum intensity ratio is a sensitive measure of the calcium elemental abundance (Aca) relative to hydrogen in the emitting plasma. In previous investigations we found the calcium abundance varies from flare to flare. In the present investigation we analyse the variations ofAcafor flares which occurred in two active regions well observed bySMM. We concl

It is suggested that an information model only partially explains variations in the degree of bias between alternative betting media.

Simulation studies have proposed a significant thermal effect of water ice clouds on the Martian atmosphere and climate. However, previous studies focused more on seasonal variations but less on short-term changes. In this work, we used the MCS multi-local time data to investigate the water ice diurnal variations on Mars. We quantified its diurnal variations with amplitude and phase by applying the tidal fitting method to the water ice abundance. In addition, we found a close correlation (antiphase relation) between the thermal tide and water ice diurnal variations during the aphelion seasons

When a foot response was required to the first stimulus, increasing the complexity of the second stimulus-response pair significantly delayed the time to respond to the first stimulus. McLeod's 1977 model of parallel processing appears to offer the best explanation of the data although certain modifications to this model are suggested.

Abstract. Many years ago Mayaud (1965) suggested that a tilted, rather than symmetric, current system may be responsible for the form of daily magnetic variations near the focus of the current system. With arrays of magnetometer stations, both in Australia and in Europe, it is now demonstrated that such tilted systems do exist at certain times. At other times the magnetic variation near the focus is deformed by a previously reported extra morning current system which is apparently unconnected to the regular Sq system.

Previous studies indicated that extensive genetic variations could be generated due to polyploidy, which is considered to be closely associated with the manifestation of polyploid heterosis. Our previous studies confirmed that triploid loquats demonstrated significant heterosis, other than the ploidy effect, but the underlying mechanisms are largely unknown. This study aimed to overcome the narrow genetic distance of loquats, increase the genetic variation level of triploid loquats, and systematically illuminate the heterosis mechanisms of triploid loquats derived from two cross combinations.
