Introduction: Thoracic epidural analgesia (TEA) is commonly used to manage postoperative pain and facilitate early mobilization after major intra-abdominal surgery. Evidence also suggests that regional anesthesia/analgesia may be associated with improved survival after cancer surgery. Here, we describe factors associated with TEA at the time of radical cystectomy (RC) for bladder cancer and its association with both short- and long-term outcomes in routine clinical practice. Methods: All patients undergoing RC in the province of Ontario between 2004 and 2008 were identified using the Ontario Ca

Although literary sources suggest otherwise, no one bought chocolate; but many people bought tea, tobacco, sugar, and salt, evidently at standard levels for contemporary British society. As time went by, a growing range of products appear among purchases, notably many drugs and medications. The evidence is also read for indications of what families made for themselves.

Abstract Cancer immunotherapy, particularly T cell-mediated therapy such as immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) and adoptive T cell transfer (ACT), has shifted the paradigm for cancer treatment. However, the emergence of immune-refractory tumor has limited its clinical success by disrupting one or more steps of the cancer immunity cycle. In addition, multi-malignant phenotypes of immune-refractory tumor cells are also one of the major causes result poor prognosis of patients. We need to identify novel predictive biomarker allowing for the selection of patients who will receive clinical benefit fr

After canopy removing disturbance, recalcitrant understory shrubs can rapidly occupy the forest understory to the detriment of tree regeneration and growth. The expansion of recalcitrant species has been documented following stand replacing disturbances, such as fire and timber harvest. However, there is little information on how these species respond to much smaller canopy gaps created by the senescence and/or death of single or groups of canopy trees. In this study, we determined the response of Labrador tea (Rhododendron groenlandicum Oeder.), a recalcitrant ericaceous shrub, to canopy gaps

BACKGROUND: Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is accompanied by inflammation and angiogenesis. Modifying angiogenesis through transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) can be a potential treatment for knee OA. OBJECTIVE: We subjected five OA knees in three patients to TAE and report the results of our post-treatment observations. CASE DESCRIPTION: Three patients that had experienced knee pain for a minimum of one year prior to the study, and whose pain had persisted despite conservative treatment, were included in this study. Patients more often chose conservative treatment over surgical treatment. Pai

Introduction: The benefit of partial nephrectomy (PN) compared to radical nephrectomy (RN) for T1a renal cell carcinoma (RCC) remains uncertain, with observational studies conflicting with level 1 evidence. Therefore, the purpose of this population-based study was to compare long-term outcomes in patients undergoing PN or RN for T1a RCC.
Methods: We studied 5670 patients in Ontario, Canada undergoing PN or RN for T1a RCC. The primary outcome was overall survival (OS). Secondary outcomes were cancer-specific survival (CSS), chronic kidney disease (CKD), end-stage renal disease (ESRD), and
