Annotation:
The network is a model that may be able to respond to public needs by overcoming some limitations of other approaches. In literature, a generalizable model is often absent and not applicable to more than one productive sector. The case study uses the "Torino Model" to highlight the most frequent features and measurable elements of the network through a bottom-up coding approach by ATLAS software. The case is analyzed through interviews, documents analysis and observation of the functioning of the network. Sustainability, management and the main network outcomes are the elements that the study examines the case study. The analysis responds to the gap identified in the literature concerning the application to a system composed of institutions. The essential elements linked to know-how, the exchange of training and information and therefore the growth of intangible value constitute the essential basis for the establishment of a successful network, and this is also highlighted by the case study. The case study highlights how the network between institutions reduces costs by eliminating the duplication of services offered and increasing effectiveness and efficiency through increasing other factors such as the professional ability to respond to needs by immediately putting institutions and professionals in communication. The model confirms the ability to overcome the gap related to the network between institutions and between public and private, increasing the well-being of the local system.

The erosion of the river bed material at bridge pier foundation produced by scour events is one of the main causes of the observed masonry bridges failures and collapses. Foundation settlements and rotations derived from the reduction of the footprint under the piers threaten masonry arch bridges integrity more than any gravity load. The resulting effect on the structure is the development of cracking mechanisms on the arches which may affect the dynamic behaviour of the whole bridge. A scaled experimental model of a masonry arch bridge has been built in the laboratory of the Dep. of Structural Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino. The aim was to better understand scour damage scenario and to identify early structural symptoms of pier erosion. A preliminary dynamic identification is carried out on the intact structure and a comparison with the FEM results is performed. The set of identified modal parameters is adopted as the reference system that will be compared with those acquired after the application of damage of increasing extent.

Abstract. The research tries to present a preliminary work into geo-spatial management of public administration assets thanks to interoperability of BIM-GIS models, related to urban scale scenarios. The strategy proposed tries to deepen the management, conversion and integration of databases related to public assets and particularly schools building, and related them into city-related geo-databases. The methodology, based on the real scenario of Torino Municipality and their needs addressed in recent studies in collaboration with FULL – Future Urban Legacy Lab from Politecnico di Torino, take advantage from the availability of two test dataset at different scale, with different potential and bottlenecks. The idea of developing a 3D digital twin of Torino actually stop long before the 3D city modelling only, but rather we have to deal with the integration and harmonization of existing databases. These data collections are often coming from different updating and based on non-homogeneous languages and data models. The data are often in table format and managed by different offices and as many management systems. Moreover, recently public administrations as the one of Torino, have increase availability of BIM models, especially for public assets, which need to be known, archived, and localized in a geographic dimension in order to benefit from the real strategic potential of a spatial-enabled facility management platform as Digital Twin. Combining the use of parametric modeler software (Revit) and visual programming language (Dynamo), the proposed methodology tries to elaborate rules on a set of shared language parameters (characterizing the buildings as attributes in both datasets: ID; address; construction; floors; rooms dimensions, use, floor; height; glass surfaces). This is tested as conversion workflow between the Municipality DB and the BIM model. This solution firstly allows the interaction and query between models, and then it proposes open issues once the enriched BIM model is imported into the geographical dimension of the Torino 3D city model Digital Twin (ArcGIS Pro platform), according to LOD standards, and enriched with semantic components from municipality DB.

Este estudo faz um apanhado teórico sobre as aplicações do modelo gravitacional, objetivando, sobretudo, analisar a previsão dos fluxos bilaterais do comércio entre as nações. Uma vez que, desde seu surgimento como lei da física até sua inserção nas ciências econômicas, o modelo gravitacional evoluiu de uma simples equação básica até o refinamento matemático que temos na atualidade. Cujos aprimoramentos fundamentais econômicos – introdução de variáveis dummy, possibilitaram um aumento na precisão dos resultados, enquanto que, pelo lado teórico, no decorrer das décadas, o modelo fundamentou-se através de teorias como a de Heckscher-Ohlin e a teoria dos Retornos Crescentes do Comércio, tendo, finalmente, sua robustez afirmada pela nova teoria do comércio internacional. Assim, através da econometria, sua aplicação inicial deu-se através do uso de uma análise transversal tradicional, até, atualmente, ter evoluído ao uso dos dados em painel, que tendem a eliminar várias distorções sofridas pelas estimações anteriores. Considerando tais situações, torna-se claro que o modelo gravitacional afirma-se como uma forte ferramenta na área de previsões de fluxos comerciais, além de conseguir mensurar os efeitos dos acordos preferenciais sobre os fluxos internacionais de comércio; possibilitando, nesse viés, uma avaliação do efeito fronteira.

The master thesis deals with the design of a single-cylinder diesel piston internal combustion test engine by modifying the initial mass-produced three-cylinder engine. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the introduction to the problems of diesel and experimental single cylinder engines. Subsequent chapters focus on the adaptation of the baseline engine itself, including balancing of inertial forces. Furthermore, the crankshaft operability is checked, including the determination of safety against high-cycle fatigue. This master thesis describes design of frame construction of Formula Student car. The objective was to reduce weight and increase the torsional stiffness against to last version of the car. Next objective was to prove advantages of alternative frame. This had been achieved by gradual transformation of standard design of frame to alternative with the usage of FSAE alternative frame rules. The weight was reduced by 20% and torsional stiffness was increased by 34% thanks to FEM simulation and sophisticated changes of alternative frame design.

The next part of my thesis is proposal of the constructive implementation of fixation the silicone damper on the free part of crankshaft. The last part of my thesis is comparing and evaluating the oscilation of crankshaft without a dumper and with a new propsal of the silicone damper.

Doctoral thesis deals with combustion engine cranktrain vibrations and vibration analysis methods. The work applies new computational models aimed at powertrain vibration decrease. The computational models can be used in the first stages of powertrain development. Temperature dependences of the rubber shear modulus and loss factor characteristic are found by response analysis of the free damped vibrations in the first part of the thesis. Viscoelastic model parameters of two dampers with different rubber hardness are calculated using optimization methods. Temperature distribution inside the rubber part during the harmonic oscillation is calculated with the knowledge of previous values. Computational models together with a user interface are assembled in Matlab/Simulink software tool. Computational model results of the viscoelastic rubber damper are verified by measurements on a prototype diesel engine in the whole operating engine speed range. Torsional vibrations of the crankshaft with torsional damper are measured by POLYTEC laser rotational tools. The temperature distribution on the damper surface is obtained by Infratec VarioCAM thermographic system. Combustion pressures in the cylinder are measured by SMETEC Combi indication tools. Both the temperature distributions and combustion pressures are used for computational purposes. All the measurement procedures are described also in the thesis.

From user-generated images of streets to professional architectural renderings, and from digital maps and drone footages to representations of invisible digital ecologies, this collection of essays analyses the emergent practices of visualizing the street. Today, advancements in digital technologies of the image have given rise to the production and dissemination of imagery of streets and urban realities in multiple forms. The ubiquitous presence of digital visualizations has in turn created new forms of urban practice and modes of spatial encounter. Everyone who carries a smartphone not only plays an increasingly significant role in the production, editing and circulation of images of the street, but also relies on those images to experience urban worlds and to navigate in them. Such entangled forms of image-making and image-sharing have constructed new imaginaries of the street and have had a significant impact on the ways in which contemporary and future streets are understood, imagined, documented, navigated, mediated and visualized. Visualizing the Street investigates the social and cultural significance of these new developments at the intersection of visual culture and urban space. The interdisciplinary essays provide new concepts, theories and research methods that combine close analyses of street images and imaginaries with the study of the practices of their production and circulation. The book covers a wide range of visible and invisible geographies — From Hong Kong’s streets to Rio’s favelas, from Sydney’s suburbs to London’s street markets, and from Damascus’ war-torn streets to Istanbul’s sidewalks — and engages with multiple ways in which visualizations of the street function to document street protests and urban change, to build imaginaries of urban communities and alternate worlds, and to help navigate streetscapes.

The HMM for intelligent cities transformation projects (iCTP) (or simply projects) uses a natural language development (and simulation) environment that can be adopted by any project and for that goal the authors propose to use the holistic intelligent cities design concept (HICDC). The HICDC is supported by a central decision-making system (DMS) and enterprise architecture (sub)projects (EAP). The proof of concept (PoC) is based on the resources collected on the city of Beirut, capital of Lebanon, where the central point is the transformation process of a war-torn city into a modern, agile (relatively, in respect to the region), civilized, and automated intelligent city. Such projects are managed by intelligent city transformation managers (iCTM).

The purpose of this chapter is to determine the role of digital communication strategies in Torino digitally active museums. It describes strengths and weakness of museum digital communication practices, giving evidence on the awareness that museum managers have on the power of technology, data and automation to drive innovative digital communications. While some conceptual studies have highlighted the impact that digital technologies have on museums, empirical evidence on communication strategies, according to museum managers, is still missing. This research aims to fill this gap. The results show that digital communication is weakly linked to strategic dimension in the Torino museums, since it is conceived as a short-term operative tool, and it is not yet managed as a key resource to engage in dialogue with their publics. Results could provide new insight to directors and museum managers involved from the transformative and often disruptive power of digitization with the various spill-over effects on their business models.

‘It’s a question of form’ (1993: 418). So declares frustrated writer Anna Wulf, in what remains Lessing’s most celebrated novel, The Golden Notebook. As this volume shows, the attempt to find forms which might record, model and engage historical change and all that it entails is one that persists throughout the six decades spanned by Lessing’s writing. The chapters that follow attend to the full weight of Anna’s statement: when Lessing’s writing turns towards history it is not simply a question of finding the literary form that might best represent it; rather it involves questioning the very relationship between form and history, as they are brought together afresh in each new work. Entre la producción de los talleres epigráficos de Tarraco destaca la ingente serie de pedestales tripartitos exentos para las estatuas honoríficas de magistrados y sacerdotes provinciales. Se trata de un tipo de monumento tallado de manera uniforme y sistemática desde finales del siglo I hasta finales del II dC. El inicio de su producción coincidió con la reforma urbanística Flavia de la zona superior de la ciudad, que pasó a ser el área de representación del concilium Hispaniae citerioris (PHC). En ella se configuró también la imagen corporativa de la Tarraconense, una vez concedido el ius Latii, a través de la creación de una magnífica y uniforme galería con las estatuas de los flamines PHC a expensas del propio concilio. El texto inciso en sus pedestales perpetuaba la memoria de cada individuo y el honor de su flaminado, pero también mencionaban explícitamente su origo, que evocaba muchas comunidades repartidas por todo el territorio recientemente incorporadas de iure al estado romano. Muchas de ellas estaban muy alejadas de Tarraco y no necesariamente conocidas para la mayoría de la población, por lo que la exposición pública de los nombres de estas ciudades en los pedestales de conciudadanos ilustres contribuyó a aumentar el prestigio colectivo tan manifiestamente evocado en Tarraco en la mencionada galería de viri flaminales. Un elemento clave para la creación de esta imagen unificada fue el empleo del marmor local de gran calidad, la piedra de Santa Tecla, que pronto fue exportado e imitado para monumentos semejantes en otras ciudades de la Tarraconensis, lo que contribuyó a que este modelo de pedestal tripartito de Tarraco llegase a ser un símbolo de estatus para las élites locales, tal como demuestra su localización incluso en ciudades muy alejadas del inmediato entorno de la capital provincial, incluso en otros conventus.

Promoting an open dialogue, a constant interdisciplinary collaboration with companies, between universities, about partnership or open innovation perspective, today is a challenge that still faces some resistance. Learning to deal with complexity, with the coexistence of different points of view, in collaboration to combined and re-combined know-how in ever new, original and challenging formulations, brings with its specific needs. In this sense, design takes on a fundamental role to create projects with a view to sustainable innovation, projects that are increasingly responsive to contemporary complexity. So, how does design education need to change? How do working designers and design researchers can update their skills to meet the challenges of the present and future?This contribution, through the experimentation of the Contamination Lab Torino, investigates a new education model intended as an extremely dynamic process from the creation of a multidisciplinary design team to the transition from a product design logic to a Product Service System one, as the most effective way to face the issue of the system management, as a way to guarantee the appropriate flexibility to the contemporary needs of our society.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo avaliar o desempenho computacional do framework Model-R de modelagem de nichos ecológiocs no modelo de programação Spark para processamento de dados massivos (Big Data) em uma plataforma de supercomputação. Com o crescimento exponencial dos dados ecológicos e ambientais, torna-se necessário que ferramentas de modelagem de nichos ecológicos, como o Model-R, estejam preparadas para processar tais dados de forma escalável, sendo capazes de analisá-los em um tempo hábil. Nesta pesquisa, o Model-R, originalmente implementado em R com a biblioteca Snowfall, foi parcialmente portado para a plataforma Spark e sua avaliação no supercomputador Santos Dumont está em andamento.
