BACKGROUND: Currently, almost all agricultural work is performed using tractors. As the transport speed of a tractor train increases, the amplitude of lateral and horizontal oscillations of its coupled units emerges and increases. At certain velocities, these oscillations become so large that they can lead to a rollover, in addition, shock loads occur in coupling devices, which make it difficult to handle a tractor train. The traditional method to prevent this is the velocity limit, which does not guarantee a positive result.

The handling stability of heavy tractor semi-trailers under crosswind conditions is crucial for road safety due to their large side area and exposure to variable road conditions. Crosswinds can cause lateral forces and moments on the vehicle, affecting its stability and making it harder to control. In this present work, numerical simulation is performed to study the crosswind effects on the handling stability of a tractor semi-trailer. A promising direction has been proposed making it possible to increase the efficiency of hauling tractors with semi-trailers. Transport is an integral part of food manufacturing at almost every stage of the product life cycle. The transport between the processing facilities and the distribution of food products is carried out by typical road vehicles i.e. heavy and light trucks. This analytical study describes the influence of the truck main suspensions on the performance indices analytically using MATLAB Simulink for different loading conditions in three case studies: fully laden articulated truck (case A), unladen truck (case B

This article helps improve the understanding about the safety performance of longer combination vehicles (LCVs) relative to other articulated trucks operating on rural highways, using evidence from the Canadian portion of the CANAMEX trade corridor. The analysis reveals that from a collision rate perspective, LCVs as a group have better safety performance than other articulated trucks. Turnpike doubles have the lowest collision rate of all articulated truck types (16 collisions per 100 million vehicle-kilometres of travel or VKT), followed by Rocky Mountain doubles (32 collisions per 100 milli

For the chipping cost and investment profitability analyses four tractor-powered professional or semi-professional disc chippers and two professional drum chippers mounted on a truck or powered by tractor were selected. Initial investment, operating costs, and the cost of outsourced chipping were the key elements for comparing the profitability of investment alternatives. The average purchase p

Articulated tractors are wide available on the construction equipment market and have a lot of unique advantages not accessible in case of Ackerman steering system or truck-mounted tools. The only unsolved problem is their poor directional stability which significantly limits the speed of operation and work efficiency. This paper investigates the phenomenon of directional stability loss and indicates main reasons for its appearance by means of experimental research. Abstract The use of cut-to-length systems has increased the use of short log truck and trailers in the western United States and elsewhere. The equations for uphill and downhill gradeability for loaded short log truck and trailer units are derived under conditions of nonturning motion. A sensitivity analysis shows both uphill and downhill gradeability of the short log truck and trailer is highly affected by the load distribution and is also affected by the angle of the tongue between the tractor and trailer. Cutting greenhouse gas emissions to comply with the Paris Agreement is challenging for road freight. While heavy-duty battery-electric trucks (BET) promise tremendous and immediate reduction potential, literature increasingly confirms technical feasibility in general, and several manufacturers launched BET models. However, their real-world application is still being questioned by fleet owners due to the limited range or payload penalties. Thus, our case study aims to assess the technical feasibility of urban and regional delivery in Germany based on real-world and per-vehicle operational data

The special mobile truck tire dynamometer has a two-test-tire carriage mounted just ahead of the rear support tires of an articulated truck (tractor) trailer. Equal slip angles may be applied simultaneously to both test tires. The frequency response was evaluated by typical phase angle methods. However, average payloads are derived primarily from outdated, unrepresentative truck surveys. With increasing technological and methodological means of concurrently measuring truck configurations, commodity types, and weights, there are now viable alternatives to truck surveys. In this paper, a method to derive average payloads by truck body type and using weight data from weigh-in-motion (WIM) sensors is presented. Average payloads by truck body type are found b
