In a survey, 44 randomly selected APA accredited doctoral programs in professional psychology from 150, all university-based, reported that a median of two of every three students never took a cognate course outside their department (8 of every 9 never took more than one cognate). Only a fifth of the programs offered any courses within their program by nonpsychology faculty. Only 22% of the programs required a nonpsychology cognate (usually Statistics in the Mathematics or Statistics Department) although 37% favored such a requirement Freestanding professional schools, challenged to demonstrate diverse educational opportunity for accreditation procedures, have routinely developed avenues for multidisciplinary stimulation that many more advantaged university-based programs ignore. Diversity of educational model as well as of curriculum is advocated.

An electronic audit tool to track the donning and doffing practices of personal protective equipment in the emergency department Maya Jusza, Ramya Sridhar, Jennifer Woods, Sharon Drury Background: Maintaining the safety of patients and healthcare professionals is a priority in all healthcare settings. Infection prevention measures such as donning and doffing practices of personal protective equipment (PPE) have become even more imperative in light of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Potential PPE breaches and the degree of frontline compliance are currently being analyzed through the use of paper PPE audit tools which can be laborious and time-consuming. The development of an electronic alternative would improve frontline safety and enhance the efficiency of data collection, while optimizing the ability to share these observations with the frontline team in real time. Two nursing leadership students from the University of Alberta were tasked with developing an electronic PPE audit tool prototype for the University of Alberta Hospital’s emergency department. Implementation: An electronic PPE audit tool prototype was developed using Google Forms which provided a user-friendly interface. Google applications were used as no confidential or patient data was collected during PPE audits. The prototype auto-populated the data entries into linked spreadsheets and interactive data dashboards that visualized the data using graphs in real time. This enabled users to easily identify trends and direct educational interventions as required. Instructional one pagers and screencast videos were also created to accompany the prototype. The prototype was reviewed by and received extensive support from: Unit Managers, Patient Care Managers, Process Improvement Nurses, Infection Prevention Control (IPC), the Executive Director of the University of Alberta Hospital and Stollery emergency department and Edmonton Zone medicine programs, and the University of Alberta Hospital and Mazankowski Executive Leadership Team. Several changes and improvements were made using the Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle. This prototype has currently been replicated onto an Alberta Health Services (AHS) server and has completed the formal testing phase with a planned application launch date. Evaluation Methods: Plan-Do-Study-Act cycles were used to guide the implementation of this audit tool prototype. After development, the prototype was tested and revised which included six rounds of audit trials at the University of Alberta Hospital’s emergency department and on some inpatient medicine units. This prototype was consistently evaluated at various stages of development and changes were made to include feedback. After approval was received to recreate this prototype onto an AHS compatible server, additional changes were made to ensure functionality. These changes included adding designations and simplifying certain questions. IPC was consulted to ensure the steps outlined for donning and doffing in the prototype were accurate and reflected requirements in the clinical environment. Results: This audit tool prototype has gathered tremendous support through various demonstrations of its ability to streamline data collection in the healthcare setting. This data is relevant to the safety of both frontline workers and patients as it identifies inconsistencies in donning and doffing practices. In addition, the prototype also complements the Edmonton zone-wide PPE coaching initiative by allowing for a quantitative measurement of its efficacy. This has prompted the fast-tracked replication of an AHS compatible version with the assistance of a dedicated team that includes the creators of the prototype tool, IPC, Quality Assurance, Information Technology, and Clinical Services Development. This version has a scheduled launch date on March 22, 2021 and is to be initially rolled out to University of Alberta’s emergency department and medicine units. The objective is to eventually make this the standardized PPE audit tool throughout Alberta. Advice and Lessons Learned: 1) In order to be sustainable and implemented site-wide, an AHS compatible tool isrequired. The use of Google applications is not preferred as data will be stored outside ofthe AHS server. Even though there is no confidential information, wide-spread use mayoverwhelm the Google platform and a Gmail account is required to view data. An in-house AHS alternative has been developed. 2) Several discussions took place regarding discretions on what steps can be auditedaccording to IPC protocols. For example, some clinical nurse educators prefer handhygiene to be completed between donning steps, while this is not mandatory or auditableaccording to IPC. In addition, several discussions took place to identify the operationaland business owners of this tool which are required to support the AHS compatibleversion of the application. 3) PPE audits are vital across all hospital departments to improve the quality of healthcare. The use of PPE during patient care has grown exponentially due to the SARS-CoV2pandemic and has amplified the need for an electronic alternative to the existing paperPPE audit tool. The electronic audit tool offers an innovative way to accurately andefficiently collect and display data which will promote an improved quality of care.

Attracting applicants in modern conditions is quite an important and difficult task for higher education institutions. Non-core graduate departments of the University face the greatest difficulties in this process. The article discusses the main directions of career guidance work of the Department of “Sociology, psychology and social management” of the Moscow Aviation Institute (NationalResearchUniversity) in the course of implementing cooperation agreements with educational institutions inMoscowand theMoscowregion. The authors present an experience of organizing and conducting research circles in sociology and social psychology for students of grades 8-11.The activity of the sociological research circle “First steps in science” was aimed at forming students’ ideas about research, its methods and stages; developing skills of independent work with the received social information; obtaining skills for developing, conducting and presenting research results. The program of the circle “Social psychology” adapted for classes of humanitarian and socioeconomic orientation, included personal growth trainings and career guidance games aimed at developing professional self-determination in career planning.Research circles allowed school students to develop their special skills, arouse interest in sociology and psychology, improve their understanding of the criteria for their own professional choice, as well as form students’ understanding of the Department’s profile.During the implementation of career guidance measures in modern conditions, along with positive results, the authors have identified the factors that hinder the successful interaction of schools and universities such as the lack of involvement in this process of all subjects of the educational space, insufficient attention of the school administration to the social needs of graduating departments. To solve these problems, the authors have developed and proposed a model for organizing research circles based on schools, which can qualitatively improve the social partnership of all interested participants. The basic ideas and theses of the article may be of interest both for teachers of higher educational institutions and for pedagogical staff of secondary schools.

This paper examines some aspects of the student scientific clubs (SSC) of the departments of a medical university during an unfavorable epidemiological situation caused by a new coronavirus infection. Variants of conducting SSC using various electronic educational environments and computer programs are considered. The many years of experience in holding meetings of the SSC at the Department of Operative Surgery with Topographic Anatomy (OS&TA) of VSMU named after N.N. Burdenko are summarized. The relevance of this work is due to the forced transition, due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation, to distance learning, many teachers and lecturers of higher education began to pay attention to various aspects of the educational process, including the issues of conducting classes, lecturing, solving emerging technical problems. However, so far little attention has been paid to the issues of holding student scientific circles of departments of various universities, including medical ones. The purpose of the work is an attempt to evaluate the holding of the first in the history of the Department of OS&TA, a remote meeting of the SSC on a number of parameters, among which the leading ones were general satisfaction with the meet-ing, its relevance, identification of positive and negative aspects. The objects of the study were 138 students of 2–6 courses of medical, 3–6 courses of pediatric and 2–4 courses of dental faculties. The stages of the research were: studying the distribution of respondents depending on the faculty and course, indicating their age; study of the total attendance at meetings of the SSC over the past 5 years, depending on the month; identifying the reasons for the high attendance of students to the first remote meeting in the history of the department; determination of the overall satisfaction of students with the meeting, as well as the main positive and negative aspects. It was found that the students were generally satisfied with the meeting. The desire to gain additional knowledge on the subject during the period of distance learning led to a high turnout of students, which, at the same time, «revealed» a number of negative aspects. The main one was the impossibility of simultaneous connection of more than 100 participants in the basic tariff of the «Zoom» program. In general, based on the data obtained, one can judge the success of the remote meeting of the SSC of the departments of a medical university. However, with a large number of participants, it is more expedient to use an alternative electronic environment or program, which could be, for example, the Webinar system.

There has been a considerable amount of interest in graduation rates of baccalaureate degree programs in the educational literature. There has also been some attention given to graduation from doctoral programs and from associate degree programs. However, there is almost no literature on the graduation rates for Master’s degree programs. This report uses a method of analysis known as survival analysis or event history analysis to examine the time to event for two different events leading to completion of a Master’s degree. One event is the time to preliminary examination, and the other event is the time to final thesis defense or final examination. The data compare three different Master’s programs in a psychology department of one of the largest campuses of one of the largest public university systems in the United States.

This paper considers the «problem of choice» of holding meetings of student scientific circles of the departments of operative surgery with topographic anatomy (OKHITA) and medical informatics and statistics (MIIS) N.N. Burdenko VSMU. This topic is currently very relevant, since the pandemic of a new coronavirus infection continues in Russia and around the world. At the beginning of the article, the information on the use of specialized electronic programs and electronic educational environments in the complex educational process is provided; the issues of their use at various stages of distance learning during an unfavorable epidemiological situation are analysed. However, according to the authors, very little attention is paid to additional aspects of the complex educational process, which are various student comeptitions, student scientific circles and student scientific societies. The aim of the work was an attempt to determine the form of meetings of the Council of People's Commissars of departments of various orientations (theoretical and practical), to determine the attitude of the respondents themselves – representatives of the teaching staff and students to the form of holding meetings of the Council of People's Commissars, depending on the epidemiological situation, and also to choose the most suitable electronic educational environment or computer program. The objects of the study were 50 employees of various departments of N.N. Burdenko VSMU (from among the teaching staff, who made up 1 group of subjects) and 100 students of the medical faculty – 2 and 4 years (who made up the 2 and 3 groups of subjects). The study was based on anonymous questionnaires. It was found that regardless of the direction of the department (practical – OKHITA or theoretical – MIiS), many respondents advocated the traditional (face-to-face) meetings of the Council of People's Commissars, subject to the normalization of the epidemiological situation. However, as it worsened, the majority favored remote, online, meetings of the Council of People's Commissars. An «interesting» result was obtained when processing the results of choosing an electronic platform for holding meetings of the Council of People's Commissars. So, despite the presence in N.N. Burdenko VSMU, specialized electronic educational environments, the «winner» and a kind of choice of respondents was the computer program «Zoom». The obvious choice of university staff from among the teaching staff and students makes it possible to recommend this program as a kind of «platform» for holding meetings of student scientific communities and circles.

Cyberbullying and sexting have made headlines and caused concern over their legality and potential risk to safety. In this article, the authors discuss cyberbullying and sexting behavior and examine the association with mobile phone use. Using research from leading researchers in the field, they provide information about the prevalence of cyberbullying and sexting, the mobile phone as an avenue for these behaviors, and solutions to prevent victimization. In conclusion, the authors recommend that awareness, guidelines, and monitoring are preventative rather than reactive. In order to develop this chapter, the authors used evidence from leading researchers in the fields of bullying and cyberbullying prevention. These researchers include Dorothy Espelage, PhD., Professor of Child Development in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Dr. Tonja Nansel, senior investigator at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Institute of Child Health and Development. In addition, they have included the most current information from scholarly articles written by researchers who diligently examine the emerging issues around sexting and cyberbullying. This includes the work of Bastiaensens, S., Vandebosch, H., Poels, K., Van Cleemput, K., DeSmet, A. and Bourdeaudhij, I.D.

Annotation:
Over the years that I spent as a co-oper for my three children in this parent co-operative school, I gradually came to understand the philosophy and become part of the structure of this learning community. It took a long time for me to grasp the underlying principles—the “common thread” that weaves through the practices of this community. An understanding of the principles gives participants a basis for knowing what to do, but at the same time, it seems that participating is essential for finding the principles. When I was a new co-oper, my career as a developmental psychologist was largely unrelated to my activities in the classroom. My choice to send my first child to the OC, over a decade ago, was based on the suggestion of a colleague in the psychology department at the University of Utah, who said, “Just think of all the research you can do in the OC!” and talked me into coming to visit his daughter’s classroom. At the time, although I liked what I saw for my daughter, I could see no way that I could make use of the OC as a research site—it didn’t connect with the way I was studying children’s learning. Over time, though, what I learned from the challenges of seeking this program’s principles of learning, in order to participate in it, has transformed my research and scholarly work. It opened my eyes to this way of thinking about learning, which I believe can contribute to advances in developmental and educational research and theory. The program philosophy is apparent in my 1990 book, Apprenticeship in Thinking, though at the time I wrote it I did not recognize the depth of its influence in my work. A key question that perplexed me as I struggled to understand how to participate in a community of learners, as a parent new to the OC, was how adults and children can collaborate in learning. This is a puzzle to many parents as they enter the program; it is also a classic issue in the fields of developmental psychology and education.
