Der volle Inhalt der QuelleFrom a parametric study by bidimensional direct numerical simulations two mixing layer configurations between a uniform flow and a shear flow have been selected. These two configurations share the same shear flow but have a different uniform flow. The shear flow was obtained with curved gauze. However the theoretical shear parameter predicted by the literature was different from the value obtained by experiments. In order to study these discrepancies, the flow through a gauze has been studied by particle image velocimetry. This allowed the general modelization of the uniform flow through curved wire gauze, leading to linear mean velocity profiles. From a hot-wire anemometry study of the two flow configurations it was observed that one flow behaves like a mixing layer whereas the other flow yields a wake behaviour. The mixing layer indicates an increasing turbulent kinetic energy along its longitudinal development, while the wake exhibits an asymmetry

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleSlow rail tourism encompasses tourism and leisure practises driven by a special interest in travelling by train : the slow pace of the journey allows discovery of the scenery, contact with preserved railway heritage and enjoyment of unique experiences. After presenting both technical and legal frames, and describing the different types of rolling stock, the author focuses on the supply-side by identifying the three worlds in slow rail tourism. Then follows an estimate of slow rail tourism sector in terms of turnover and employment. Demands and practices are revealed through a survey carried out among visitors in three different tourist trains. Similarities and differences are pointed out. From the 1870ʼs to nowadays, the study of historical dynamics in slow rail tourism shows three main forms : the ancient leisure form ; the heritage form, born in the 1950ʼs and promoted by enterprising railway enthusiasts ; the hybrid form, synthesis of the two former, which appeared in the 1980ʼs. Coping with tourism and leisure challenges (tourism sustainability, widening of interests and practices of visitors), slow rail tourism emphasizes low environmental impact, ability to structure space and manage tourist flows, adaptability to added-value experiences and responses to recent changes in demand (slow tourism)

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe aim of this work was i) to validate a method to calculate force during bench press exercise according to data obtained with a kinematic device; ii) to relate the muscle characteristics of the upper and lower limbs of throwers (discus, hammer and shot-put) to the performance; and iii) to propose a protocol adapted to throwers’ evaluation. Firstly, forces calculated according to data obtained with a kinematic device during bench press exercise were compared to those simultaneously measured with a force platform. The results showed the importance of taking the upper limbs mass into account when forces are calculated using a kinematic device. Secondly, muscular characteristics of the upper (maximal power, force and velocity determined from bench press exercise) and lower limbs (maximal power, force and velocity determined from half squat exercise and musculotendinous stiffness) were analyzed in a group of high level male throwers. Whatever the throwing events considered, results demonstrated that throwing performance was associated on the one hand with high lower limb strength and a high level of leg stiffness, and on the other hand with a upper limbs maximal power. Finally, force, velocity and power determined during cycling and those obtained from half squat exercise were compared. From a quantitative point of view, power, force and velocity values determined during cycling were significantly different. However, the same relationships between muscular characteristics and throwing performance were evidenced. In line with previous analysis the following testing protocol could be suggested: half-squat 1-RM (one repetition maximal) and musculotendinous stiffness determination for lower limbs, and maximal power estimation from one bench press against a barbell without load for upper limbs

Torque-velocity and power-velocity relationships of trunk muscles are linear and parabolic, respectively, for healthy subjects and low back pain patients. Pmax is the only significantly different parameter between healthy and low back pain subjects whatever the considered muscular group. Although the exercise therapy program is effective for the flexor muscles, the third study showed that the trunk extensor muscle strength of low back pain patients remained significantly different at the release time. This introduces the perspective of proposing a training program focusing on trunk extensor strength on the one hand and on trunk flexor velocity on the other hand

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleIt is still not fully understood how the visual system integrates motion information across different spatial and temporal frequencies, in order to build a coherent percept of the global motion under complex, noisy naturalistic conditions. We addressed this question by manipulating local speed distribution (i.e. speed bandwidth Bv) using a well-controlled class of broadband random-texture stimuli called Motion Clouds (MCs), with continuous naturalistic spatiotemporal frequency spectra (Sanz-Leon et al., 2012,; Simoncini et al., 2012).Our results show that pursuit gain and precision deteriorate as stimulus speed variability increases. In the perceptual speed discrimination experiment, we found that MCs with moderately larger speed bandwidth were perceived as moving faster. However, beyond a critical bandwidth (Bv > 0.5 °/s), the perception of a coherent speed was lost. In a third direction discrimination experiment, we found that for large bandwidth MCs participants could no longer discriminate motion direction. These results suggest that when increasing speed bandwidth from a small to a large range, the observer experiences different perceptual regimes. We finally ran a Maximum Likelihood Difference Scaling (Knoblauch & Maloney, 2008) experiment with our MC stimuli to investigate these different possible perceptual regimes. We identified three regimes across the range of tested values of velocity difference, that would correspond to motion coherency (and speed integration), motion transparency and complete incoherency

Der volle Inhalt der Quelle1. La propagation de la fissure dans des vitrocéramiques a été étudiée par AFM en fonction de leur degré de dévitrification. Des écarts à la propagation rectiligne ont été mis en évidence. Dans le matériau le plus dévitrifié, la fissure contourne les cristaux nanométriques engendrant des contraintes de torsion et de cisaillement ce qui accroît d'autant la résistance à la rupture du matériau.
2. En utilisant la microscopie AFM, nous avons montré que la propagation de la fissure dans des matériaux vitreux –étudiés à des températures très inférieures à la température de transition vitreuse- se faisait, au devant de la tête de fissure, par un processus de nucléation, croissance et la coalescence de nano-cavités d'endommagement. La mise en évidence expérimentale de ce phénomène de ductilité du verre à l'échelle nanométrique est un résultat novateur faisant un lien entre les mécanismes de fissuration des matériaux ductiles (métaux) et fragiles (verres). La différence se situe au niveau des échelles de longueur des cavités, respectivement micrométriques et nanométriques.
3. Enfin, l'étude de la fissuration d'un verre contenant des ions alcalins révèle une migration, à l'échelle nanométrique, d'espèces chimiques au voisinage immédiat de la fissure. Cette migration s'observe sous la forme d'apparition et de croissance de nodules de dimensions nanométriques. Le champ de contrainte mécanique local, le taux d'humidité relative, ainsi que le temps de séjour de la tête de fissure dans une zone non fissurée du matériau, sont des paramètres essentiels pour le contrôle de ces phénomènes de diffusion à l'échelle nanométrique. Les processus physico-chimiques impliqués (comme la diffusion locale d'ions sodium) ont été étudiés.
L'étude in-situ de la fissuration des matériaux vitreux aux échelles de longueur caractéristiques des hétérogénéités est d'une importance capitale pour comprendre et améliorer les propriétés mécaniques du verre, matériau qui est à l'heure actuelle de plus en plus utilisé dans de multiples domaines.

The objective is to replace rate gyros which are very expensive compared to direction sensors, prone to saturation during high rate rotations and subject to failure. In a first part of the thesis, we address the specific cases of single-axis and slightly perturbed axis rotations.In a second part, we address the general case by an asymptotic non-linear observer. We build the observer from two non-collinear vector measurements or from a single vector measurements. The knowledge of the inertial coordinates of the reference vectors is not necessary. We then extend the observer to further estimate unknown torques and inertia parameters. The Euler’s equations play a central role in all the works developed in this thesis. It appears that, at least for the illustrative cases considered, rate gyros could be replaced with an estimation algorithm employing direction sensors which are much cheaper,more rugged and more resilient sensors

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis PhD thesis is dedicated to the performance analysis of Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control (CACC) system for intelligent vehicle platoon with the main aims of alleviating traffic congestion and improving traffic safety. At first, the Constant Time Headway (CTH) spacing policy for vehicle platoon is introduced. Based on this spacing policy, a novel decentralized Two-Vehicle-Ahead CACC (TVACACC) system is proposed, in which the desired acceleration of two front vehicles is taken into account. Then the string stability of the proposed system is theoretically analyzed. It is shown that by using the multiple wireless communication among vehicles, a better string stability is obtained compared to the conventional system. Vehicle platoon in Stop-and-Go scenario is simulated with both normal and degraded communication.Secondly, a graceful degradation technique for CACC was presented, as an alternative fallback strategy when wireless communication is lost or badly degraded. The proposed strategy, which is referred to DTVACACC, uses Kalman filter to estimate the preceding vehicle’s current acceleration as a replacement of the desired acceleration. It is shown that the performance is maintained at a much higher level.Finally, a Reinforcement Learning (RL) approach of CACC system is proposed. The policy-gradient algorithm is introduced to achieve the longitudinal control. Then simulation has shown that this new RL approach results in efficient performance for CACC

Numerous projects were engaged in Europe, for the development of new fuels and for the design of automobile engines adapted to these carburant. The conception of new engine requires specific systems of injection which must be perfectly designed. With this aim in mind thermophysical properties such as density and compressibility must be known with accuracy. The French project “NADIABIO” goes into this industrial issue and its main objective consist in a better control of the injection (wave distribution in the High Pressure line, during the automobile inflammation and combustion process) and the impact of biodiesels (FAME and synthetic materials) on the environment through fine numerical and experimental analyses. The direct measurement of the density or the coefficients of compressibility often presents difficulties under high pressure. It is therefore easier to determine it indirectly from the velocity of sound, which can be measured in a simple and direct way with a good accuracy. Therefore, experimental devices allowing to make measurements of ultrasound speeds and density were finalized during this work. Experimental data of ultrasound speeds (from 0,1 to 250 MPa and from 263,15 to 423,15 K) and of density (0,1 to 100 MPa and 283,15 to 403,15K) have been determined with good precision on 19 biodiesels (mixtures and synthetic products (FAME, FAEE)). However, for reasons of confidentiality, only the results relative to the synthetic products and to Normafluid appear in this report. At the same time, with the aim of proposing predictive methods, we are interested in the procedure like “predictor-corrector”, in the method contribution of molecular groups and to the theory of the corresponding states which allowed deducting the other thermophysical properties like the coefficients of compressibility as a function of temperature and pressure

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleHeat generation in high speed rolling element bearings needs external cooling in order to avoid the deterioration of the lubricant and the seizure of the mechanism. Current technology is to inject oil which lubricates contacting surfaces but also evacuates the generated heat. Then the understanding of lubrication mechanism deals with both power losses and thermal analyses. The power loss due to aerodynamic drag force acting on the rolling elements remains difficult to estimate due to the complex oil mist flow into the bearing. Historically it has been adjusted so that computed global power losses fit with experimental ones. It explains why nowadays there is still a discrepancy about taking into account or not hydrodynamic rolling traction forces at ball/race contacts. An original method is presented to discriminate the different heat sources by considering simultaneously mechanical, thermal and aerodynamical approaches. It is demonstrated that both aerodynamic drag forces and ball/race hydrodynamic rolling traction force cannot be neglected for high speed applications. The developed numerical tool appears to be fast and powerful to predict the steady state and unsteady state thermo mechanical behaviour of a rolling element bearing. Numerical investigations on oil shut-off are also presented. This work aims to provide a better comprehension of one of the most important aspects of tribology: the thermal effects in high speed rolling element bearings

Researchers have underlined the importance of the integration phase in the success of M&A. Consultants usually recommend to integrate as fast as possible. However, the few research resultats on the relationship between integration speed and performance are not compliant with this suggestion. Based on the different M&A configurations, the purpose of this study is to analyse the following topic : in which conditions does integration speed impact the performance of M&A ? Given that integration is often handled with project management tools, the speed is being considered in terms of respect of the deadlines rather than duration of integration, the concept used in former research. From a projet management perspective, our research question incite to analyze : 1. When manager give priority to the respect of deadlines instead of cost control or the quality of integration outcomes. 2. The type of the priority that is likely to impact the success of M&A. A sample of 40 cases has been selected and analysed using the case meta-analysis methodology and using quantitative data analysis like the PLS approach. Investigations show that managers focus on speed in case of high-level integration but that speed does not contribute to the performance achieved. However, cost control and quality participate in the M&A success regardless of the configuration. Der volle Inhalt der QuelleTo increase their productivity, blanking professionals are interested by an emerging process: the high speed blanking. For this process, the punch speed reaches10m/s whereas this speed does not exceed 0,1m/s for conventional blanking process. However, even if the quality of the obtained surfaces is close to those obtained with fine blanking, the occurence of hard dynamic phenomena makes difficult the deployment of the high speed blanking process. This work proposes to better control this process using experimentations and numerical simulations. An instrumented device has been designed to observe in detail the existing phenomenon during cutting. This device is similar to the industrial one. It includes a punch with non-constant sections and a matrix linked to an Hopkinson's tube in order to measure the blanking cutting forces. This measure requires a specific treatment to correct dynamic effects present in the matrix during the cutting. This treatment, which uses a calibration of the device, was validated thanks to a one-dimensional numerical model. Many observations made on the blanked surfaces have shown that adiabatic shear bands (ASB) can take place. A thermo-mechanical constitutive model (Johnson-Cook's law) of the C40 steel has been identified and used into simulations to reproduce real experimentations. The used simulation is based on a C-NEM approach (Constrained Natural Element Method). A comparative study between simulation and experimental results has been done. Results show a good correlation with experimental tests
