This article tells the empirical story of women from seven villages of Kwale, the most southeastern county in the Coast Province of Kenya that borders with Tanzania –Lunga Lunga, Godo, Perani, Umoja, Maasailand, Mpakani and Jirani– as they searched for community health, equity, gender equality and peace on their own terms. This article shows that creative health initiatives can be successfully used as mechanisms for peace building. The purpose of this study was to exam the impact of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) on CD4 cell count trends in adults with HIV. In a longitudinal retrospective study in an urban primary care HIV clinic in the southeastern United States from 2010 to 2012, patients with HIV medical charts were audited to obtain their CD4 cell count, diabetes status, weight, and demographic information. Rates of increase of CD4 T cell count (i.e. slopes) were obtained using a linear mixed-effects model. Most of the HIV–T2DM cohort (n = 262) and HIV-only cohort (n = 2399) were African American (76%) and male (77%

Background Adolescent and young adult women (AYAW), particularly racial and ethnic minorities, in the Southern United States are disproportionately affected by HIV. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective, scalable, individual-controlled HIV prevention strategy that is grossly underutilized among women of all ages and requires innovative delivery approaches to optimize its benefit. Anchoring PrEP delivery to family planning (FP) services that AYAW already trust, access routinely, and deem useful for their sexual health may offer an ideal opportunity to reach women at risk for HIV and t

10537 Background: Despite advancements in survival rates, lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women in the United States (US). In response to this challenge, the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) issued updated guidelines in 2021 to broaden the pool of eligible candidates for lung cancer screening (LCS). Pioneering initiatives, such as the Lung Cancer Screening Demonstration Project (LCSDP) launched by the Veterans Affairs (VA) in 2012, have played a pivotal role in evaluating the feasibility of implementing Low-Dose Computed Tomography (LDC

Recent trends in higher education suggest that there are more women than men enrolled and that more degrees are being conferred to women across all levels at the associate, bachelor's, master's, and the doctorate levels (Hussar &Bailey, 2011; Wang & Parker, 2011). I offer theoretical perspectives about the rapid growing female enrollment in higher education, arguing that it is a major force in shifting college student demographics. Black women in the United States face unique psychological burdens shaped by internalized racialized gender stereotypes, particularly the “Strong Black Woman” and “Angry Black Woman” schemas. These narratives demand emotional suppression and hypervigilance, contributing to chronic stress and identity fragmentation. This study aimed to explore how young adult Black women experience, internalize, and resist these stereotypes in everyday life. A descriptive phenomenological design was used to capture the lived experiences of 15 self-identified Black women aged 18 to 35 from the Southeastern and S
