South Korea has experienced rapid economic development since the 1960s. However, pronounced regional disparities have concurrently emerged. Amid the escalating regional inequalities and persistent demographic challenges characterized by low fertility rates, regional decline has become a pressing issue. Therefore, the feasibility of expanding transportation networks as a countermeasure to regional decline has been proposed. This study utilizes the synthetic control method and spatial difference-in-differences methodologies to assess the impact of the 2017 opening of Seoul–Yangyang Expressway on

Tricholoma matsutake is a valuable edible mushroom in Eastern Asia. Due to the challenges of artificial cultivation, T. matsutake cultivation has relied on foraging from pine forests. Changes in global climate variables, such as temperature and precipitation, could affect the amount of foraged T. matsutake. In this study, we investigated the correlation between the amount of foraged T. matsutake and climatic factors (average monthly temperature and precipitation) in Yangyang-gun using the augmented Dickey–Fuller test and the ordinary least squares method. Among the assessed correlations betwee

The study examined the distribution patterns of the genotypes of the ectoparasite Sarcoptes scabiei related to sarcoptic mange in wild animals in South Korea. We obtained mitochondrial cytochrome c oxydase I (cox-I) gene sequences from the skin tissues of sarcoptic mange isolated from the infested animals. After combining the newly obtained sequences and those previously reported, a total of forty-three cox-I haplotypes (SSC01-SSC43) were identified. Among those, SSC01 has already been recorded in various mammals including raccoon dog, marten and wallaby so far from many countries around the w

Indigofera kirilowii (Fabaceae), found throughout East Asia, and the Korean endemic Indigofera koreana are phylogenetically related and morphologically similar species. In South Korea, I. kirilowii is primarily known to inhabit the northeastern region, while I. koreana predominantly occupies the southwestern region. However, given their morphological similarity, these two species are apt to be misidentified, and their distribution boundaries have not been clearly defined. To address this issue, we conducted nationwide
