Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe aim of this work was to investigate the relationship of an ethnic-linguistic Yao family with a disabled adolescent. For data collection a fieldwork in Sanga District, province of Lichinga, Mozambique was done. There were five visits to a family, which last about two hours a day, the visits held routine observations and conversations with the family, especially with the mother. The family consists of ten members, including the mother, six children, a 16 year old with intellectual disabilities, and two grandmothers (one maternal and one paternal). The family has a low socioeconomic status, receive no financial aid from the government. Their support comes primarily from subsistence agricultural activity. All family members are illiterate and only speak the Yao language, requiring the assistance of an interpreter for the data collection. Besides observations and conversations with the family, interviews with community leader, healer, midwife and social agents were also carried out. After data systematization, axes of analysis were set: family dynamics and participation of the young Bernardo in the family routine and in the community; mothers description about the condition of child and aspects concerning the relationship between the family and the researcher. On family dynamics, it can be noted an affectionate relationships between all family members including Bernardo. However, according to the mothers\' reports, unconfirmed by observation, Bernardo is chained because he invades homes in the neighborhood and takes their belongings. Interactions between Bernardo and family members are sporadic because he cannot communicate verbally, and is almost constantly isolated, in his feet, standing in a corner of the house; he has not passed the initiation rites of culture Yao. The condition of Bernardo, was explained by the healer to the mother, because she did not obtain satisfactory clarification from doctors. According to the healer, Bernardos illness is caused by the presence of the spirit of his twin brother died at birth. Comparing data collected in this work with other studies it may be noted that various manifestations about the presence of disability by the literature were not observed in the relationship between young Bernardo and his family. However, the short time spent in the field does not allow definite statement , as it is difficult to assess how much this young man is included or not in the family and in the community without a deeper understanding of the cultural references. In this sense, this research concludes pointing out the need to perform more studies in order to know the meanings of disability in various ethno-linguistic groups from Mozambique and evaluate more precisely the necessary conditions to promote a better quality of life for people with disabilities

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis is a comparative study of the hmong-mien (miao-yao) languages, spoken in south china as well as in the north of vietnam, of laos, of thailand and of myanma. After a presentation of the work already achieved in the field of diachroni linguistics on hmong-mien languages and a discussion of the importance of such work with regard to our knowledge of the ethnohistory of the speakers of humong-mien languages (chap. I,pp. 16-62), we describe the initials, the rimes, the tonal system and if possible, the tonal sandhi of fourty languages (chap. Ii,pp. 62-232). Our analysis shows that there are languages with nearly one hundred distinctive initials, others with more than one hundred rimes, and still others with than ten phonological tones (glottalisation and phonation types are distinctive in most of the languages). The bewilderi diversity of the phonological systems found within the same family, and even within one branch (hmong or mjen) of the family, which is of interest in the perspective of a general theory of linguistic change. The tones of each language are by the etymological numeration (tonal categories 1 to 8). The introduction of the diachronical perspective in our descriptions, permits to reveal some pecularities of the hmong-mien languages (links between tones and phonation types, links between tones and wowels, links between tones and initials). The descriptive chapter is is followed by a comparati analysis of the common vocabulary of hmong and mien languages (chap. Iii,pp. 234-299). We present tables of initialrime - and tone-correspondences in the fourty languages described previously, on the basis of two hundred etymological schedules. The correspondence tables show clearly the problems still existing in the internal classification of the hmon mjen family and reveal the interest of the pu-nu languages, on which only few descriptive material is available up to no

In Jiaqing and Daoguang periods of the Qing Dynasty, the trend for Han learning ebbed gradually, the request for statecraft arised, and the number of the scholars that returned to the research into Sung learning increased. In that case, a new situation of the Han learning that adjusted to and combined with Sung learning started. However, there were still a lot of scholars adoring Han learning, especially after the two books, Zhouyi Shu and Zhouyi Yu Shi Yi, written by Dung Hui, and Hui-Yen Chang, respectively, were popular in the whole academia, which led to that there were lots of scholars researching into Yu’s Zhouyi learning. Pei-Chung Yao, from Chingte County of Anhui Province, a scholar in the Zhouyi learning in the Han Dynasty, was one of them. With the suggestion of his good friend Shirong Bao and the support of the academia, Pei-Chung Yao stepped onto the road of the research into the Zhouyi learning in the Han Dynasty. After being familiar with the results of Dung Hui’s and Hui-Yen Chang’s research into Yu’s interpretation of Zhouyi, Yao was tired of the complication of Yu’s Xiangshu Yi-ology and thus turned to the research into Hsuan Cheng’s theories about Zhouyi. Therefore, Yao was called “the final tide of the Zhouyi learning in the Han Dynasty” as Yao combined both Yu’s and Cheng’s theories and was as a leader after Dung Hui and Hui-Yen Chang in researching into the Zhoui learning in the Han Dynasty. Pei-Chung Yao regarded Confucius’s book “Yi Zhuan” as a standard and Kangcheng Cheng as a master and researched into the various Yi theories in the Han and Wei Dynasties, which contributed to his book, Zhouyi Yao Shi Xue total 16 juans, written for plenty of years. This book interpreted the concept, “essence of Yi”, draustically. Pei-Chung Yao constructed his own theories about essence of Yi based on the theories of the Yi-ologists in the Han and Wei Dynasties. With the improvement made by Yao, the “essence of Yi” learning in the Han Dynasty, which had been neglected for a long time, glittered again. Shou-Jung Chang, a literature expert in Guangxu period, extracted Pei-Chung Yao’s theories about “essence of Yi” in publishing another book, Yi Xue Chan Yuan. This indicated that book Zhouyi Yao Shi Xue was valuable. The scholars between end Qing dynasty and early Republic of China, such as Yuen-Pi Tsao, Hsin-Chai Hang, Ping-Ho Shang, Chi-Chao Liang and Cheng-Shih Wu, praised Pei-Chung Yao and his book, Zhouyi Yao Shi Xue. They thought that this scholar with this book was able to peer with the two masters of Zhouyi learning, Dung Hui and Hui-Yen Chang. Nevertheless, it is a pity that the academia stopped discussing Yao’s theories about Zhouyi learning so that they were mentioned rarely. In recent fifty years, in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Mainland China, there were no theses or professional writings that researched into Pei-Chung Yao’s theories in Zhouyi learning, which made Pei-Chung Yao’s theories in Zhouyi learning a lost treasure in the field of Yijing learning. Among the Zhouyi learning books written by Pei-Chung Yao, merely Zhouyi Yao Shi Xue and Zhou Yi Tong Lun Yue Ling were handed down. Zhouyi Yao Shi Xue, a book of notes and commentaries on Zhouyi classics and zhuans, is representative of Yao’s writings about Yijing learning. The depth of Pei-Chung Yao’s theories in Yi could be seen from this book, as an entry. For that reason, book Zhouyi Yao Shi Xue was the axis in this thesis. And the main purpose of this thesis is to discover, interpret and review Pei-Chung Yao’s theories in Yi learning and his book, Zhouyi Yao Shi Xue. To sum up, there were three contexts in this thesis. In view that there were no relevant thesis in Pei-Chung Yao’s Yi learning in recent fifty years, the first context described Yao’s life, scholarship, character, Yi writings, and the trend and development of the Yi learning in his time generally, as well as introduced Yao and his book, Zhouyi Yao Shi Xue, briefly. The second context discussed the inspiration, by prior books, scholars in the Qing Dynasty, and the Yi-ologists in the Han Dynasty, to Yao and his book, Zhouyi Yao Shi Xue, observed Yao’s internalization and inclination in quoting from classics as to these theories, and finally, studied further Yao’s literature use examples in book Zhouyi Yao Shi Xue. The third context explained the characteristics of book Zhouyi Yao Shi Xue for Yi learning, focusing on Yao’s “essence of Yi” theory especially, discussed the value of book Zhouyi Yao Shi Xue in the history of academy and reviewed the errors and insufficiency of that book.

To turn over the leaves of the civilization, there were so many kinds of “monsters” being mentioned of. Although the monsters have a variety of appearances, they all reflected the fear of the human beings. The author, therefore, abides by which to examine the “Yao Guai (monsters)” in ancient Chinese books and records, consequently finds that the level of fear reflected by the “Yao Guai” arise as time went by. Besides, the author also uses rules to clasiify the Yao Guai. The rules are analogy, increasing, decreasing, position-changing, mixture, and magic. The former three is concerned with the appearances, and the later ones are about the ways how the ancients understand the world. The authors possess that if one could use the rules well, he/she could devise the Yao Guai for different ones from their fears. And he also takes pupils as the target audience to make a designing practice. From the work we know, the “Yao Guai” reflect the different level of human’s fear. Hence, how to make the people feel the same way is the most important thing when design. In view of that the experience are quite varied between the audience, we need to make them more abstract when the level of fear is hign, and concrete, vise versa.

This thesis focuses upon the semantic and pragmatic analysis of the Chinese optative verbs “xiang,” “xiang yao,” and “yao.” Because these verbs share similar meaning and usage, foreign students often misunderstand and misuse them. This thesis seeks to tackle the problem from a cognitive perspective in order to further explore the shared similarity and difference among these verbs. Detailed pragmatic performance of these verbs will also be analyzed. This study finds that when these verbs serve as adverbs, they all call for subjective willing. “Xiang” presents the static, concealed will on mind; in contrast, “yao” is active and presents the will to act. But the common usage of “xiang yao,” though combining both “xiang” and “yao,” is very different from other verbs, and this difference is often overlooked. This thesis finds that “xiang yao” has a different, stronger will to act, and must be treated as an independent verb. Another focus of this study is to discuss the communicative roles of these optative verbs from the theory of cooperative principle and politeness strategy. Finally, this thesis uses pedagogical grammar index to examine common Chinese dictionaries and proposes some improvement advices.

“Qiong Yao films” refers to the films adapted from popular Taiwanese novelist Qiong Yao’s novels. 51 Qiong Yao films had been released in total during 1965-1983, of which Four Loves was the first one and Last Night’s Light was the last. In these films, music plays an important role in narrative and lyrical functions. With the success of Qiong Yao films, dozens of popular songs were composed through the cooperation between the movie and record industry. More than 120 songs from these films had great impact on the popular music culture of the 1970s. However, few studies had focused on the issue of music in Qiong Yao films. My research investigates the influences of songs and music scores in Qiong Yao films and how they formed the core concepts of genre film. This research examines music of Qiong Yao films, which includes songs, musical performances and film scores. Furthermore, the development of Qiong Yao films over time can be separated into three stages, of which different music styles and functions were represented. This research argues that Qiong Yao films cannot only be categorized as melodramas, but that they also turned themselves into musical films as time passed. Arrangement of songs in Qiong Yao films and soundtrack records became more indispensable to their plot development and commercialization. Lastly, I will analyze three Qiong Yao films to explain the styles and functions of music in those three stages This research reconstructs the idea of Qiong Yao film soundtracks. Moreover, it provides a new horizon of watching Qiong Yao films.

Yao Henglu, born in 1951 to a music family in Beijing, China, is a composer and music theorist. He teaches as a professor and doctoral advisor at Central Conservatory of Music. The subject of this paper, Impression on Yan Bei, a piano suite, is his debut work composed during 1980 – 1981 when he returned to hometown Beijing after the Culture Revolution. Yan Bei is a geographic concept covering a vast area north of Yanmenguan, the first pass of the Great Wall in Datong, Shanxi Province. In his reminiscences of the experience and memories in Shanxi, Yao seamlessly blended the two opposing elements: outback ballad and the Western technique to create this nostalgic composition. This dissertation consists of five chapters. Introduction, the first chapter describes the motivation, methodology and literature review of the research. The second chapter discusses the historical development of piano in China, as well as the life and creation timeline of the composer. In the third chapter, an in-depth analysis on each of the pieces is given by using Yao’s creation method as a cut point. Whereas, in the fourth chapter, the author aims to reveal Yao’s inner world in the most intimate manner, by shifting the roles, face to face interview, and personally playing the pieces. Finally, the fifth chapter concludes the entire research.
