The present study investigated the measurement overlap between the Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire (16PF), the Motivation Analysis Test (MAT), and the Eight State Questionnaire (8SQ). Global Factor scores from Cattell's Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire (16PF) were correlated with Holland codes using mean 16PF profiles from 69 occupational groups as data. Unlike prior studies, this study features occupational groups as the unit of analysis. The utility of the Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire, Fifth Edition (16PF) as an indicator of mentor effectiveness was examined. A random sample of the 16PF scores of 74 mentors was drawn from a population of 837 mentors from Big Brothers Big Sisters. The construct validity of the 16PF Reasoning Ability Scale was tested against the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale–Revised (WAIS–R) with 60 undergraduate students. Moderate correlations were obtained between scores on the reasoning scale and the WAIS–R Full Scale, Verbal Scale, and Performance Scale (.57, .44, .51, respectively). The strongest correlations between scores on the reasoning scale and WAIS–R subtests were obtained for Information and Block Design. These data indicate modest support for the validity of the 16PF Reasoning Ability Scale as a measure of intelligence.

The SOC scale (A. Antonovsky, 1987) purports to measure a disposition which engenders and enhances health but some empirical findings suggest that it is seriously contaminated with negative affectivity. In a criterion validation on 100 undergraduates at a predominantly Black university, SOC was correlated with S.E. Krug and E.F. Johns' (1986) 16PF second-order factor scores, as a broad spectrum of personality variables. The SOC-Anxiety correlation was -.52, in line with studies intimating negative affectivity; it could, however, also be interpreted in terms of its inverse, emotional stability.
