Silicate fireproof coatings for tunnels (FCT) have many eminent properties. But low adhesion strength and poor water/fire-resistance of this kind of materials largely limit its applications. Here we reported a new kind of FCT based on high alumina cement as principle adhesive, redispersible powder as assisting adhesive, ammonium polyphosphate as fire-retardant material, vermiculite as adiabatic padding, and magnesium hydroxide as assisting reagents. The influence of various experimental conditions on fire resistance, adhesion strength and water resistance were carefully studied. Results showed

The article presents the results of a comparison of the wear resistance of coatings with a two-layer architecture (adhesion layer–wear-resistant layer) of Zr-ZrN, Zr-(Zr,Ti)N, Zr,Hf-(Zr,Hf)N, Zr,Nb-(Zr,Nb)N, Zr,Hf-(Ti,Zr,Hf)N, and Zr,Nb-(Ti,Zr,Nb)N coatings, deposited on a titanium alloy substrate. The wear resistance was studied using two different counterbodies: Al2O3 and steel. When in contact with the Al2O3 counterbodies, the best wear resistance was demonstrated by samples with Zr,Hf-(Zr,Hf)N and Zr,Nb-(Zr,Nb,Ti)N coatings. This study investigates the influence of fabric weave design and adhesive type on the adhesion quality and mechanical properties of Kevlar woven fabric-reinforced laminates (FRLs). Three adhesives (EVA, EVOH, and TPU) and three weave structures (plain, 2/2 twill, and crowfoot) were analyzed while keeping other fabric parameters constant. Both weave structure and adhesive type, as well as their interactions, significantly influenced adhesion and mechanical performance. Combinations like the crowfoot weave with EVOH adhesive enhanced adhesion due to increased surface contact, while the 2/2 twill

The epoxy adhesive-galvanized steel adhesive structure has been widely used in various industrial fields, but achieving high bonding strength and corrosion resistance is a challenge. This study examined the impact of surface oxides on the interfacial bonding performance of two types of galvanized steel with Zn–Al or Zn–Al–Mg coatings. Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis showed that the Zn–Al coating was covered by ZnO and Al2O3, while MgO was additionally found on the Zn–Al–Mg coating. The global burden of tuberculosis (TB), exacerbated by the rise of drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis), underscores the need for alternative intervention strategies. One promising approach is to block the infection at its earliest stage—bacterial adhesion to host cells—thereby preventing colonization and transmission without exerting selective pressure. Adhesins, surface-exposed molecules mediating this critical interaction, have therefore emerged as attractive targets for early prevention. In cancer progression, the development of metastases is characteristic of late stage disease and makes treatment and cure more difficult. In order for metastasis to occur, cancer cells must gain motile and invasive phenotypes. However, EVA particles cluster in a highly alkaline cementitious matrix and exhibit poor interaction with the cement matrix. The underlying mechanism of poor dispersibility of EVA is attributed to hydrophobic groups of polymers, a variation in the adsorption rate and molecular diffusion to the interface where they cluster together. Resumen
When coatings are applied to substrates as e.g. metal, the adhesion of the cured paint is a critical parameter for the final performance of the paint film. The adhesion of the paint to the substrate influences many properties of the paint, which including visual appearance, anticorrosive performance, flexibility, resistance against scribing and scratching, delamination, blistering and many more. Many actions can be taken to influence and improve the adhesion of a coating to a substrate.

Abstract There are several pipeline external coatings classified into different types, among them are extruded and tape polyethylene, fusion bonded epoxy (FBE), coal tar enamel, coal tar epoxy, polyurethane, wax, cementitious epoxy and multilayer systems. These coatings are assumed to protect the pipeline for a certain period of time. In order to select the most appropriate coating, several accelerated laboratory tests need to be carried out to obtain their properties and correlate them with the performance in the field. Cathodic disbonding tests at different temperatures and voltages, adhesio

Resumen
There is a need for renewable antimicrobial surface treatments that are semi- permanent, can eradicate both biofilms and planktonic pathogens over long periods of time and that do not select for resistant strains. This proposal describes a dopamine binding technology that is inexpensive, bio-friendly, non-toxic, and uses straight-forward commercially available products. The antimicrobial agents are peptidoglycanhydrolase enzymes that are non-toxic and highly refractory to resistance development. The goal of this project is to create a treatment that will be applicable to a wide variety of surf

Cellulose nitrate (CN) is a semi-synthetic polymer rendering outstanding film properties such as good transparency, and water resistance, thus finds its major utilization in coating industry. Raw CN has water and isopropyl alcohol by-product at maximum content of approximately 3 and 30 wt%, respectively. The tolerance water level in the CN powder for a potential application as nail polish is investigated in order to produce good film-forming properties. The effect of adding layered silicate clay particles as thixotropic agent in the nail enamel is also examined. The water content was varied at

The overall goal of this research was to elucidate the factors affecting early development of Metarhizium spp. (previously named M. anisopliae) on ticks or tick cuticle extracts and the molecular basis of these early infection processes. The original objectives were: 1. Characterize the pre-penetration events (adhesion, germination and appressorium formation) of spores of M. anisopliae strains with high or low virulence during tick infection. 2. Create GFP-expressing strains of M. anisopliae tick pathogens having high and low virulence to compare their progress of infection by microscopy. 3. U

Gas Technology Institute (GTI) and Edison Welding Institute (EWI) created both laboratory and infield girth weld samples to evaluate the effects of weld geometry and hydrogen off-gassing on the performance of protective coatings. Laboratory-made plate welds were used to tightly control geometric differences and in-field welds were created to mimic real-world welding conditions and hydrogen off-gassing rates. These welds were then coated and tested with accelerated corrosion techniques to evaluate the coatings' effectiveness. Simulated girth welds investigated geometric effects on the performan

Many hard coating materials have been developed and based on the use of metal alkoxide or organosiloxanes prepared via the sol-gel process. Titanium glycolate, zirconium glycolate and silatrane precursors were processed as hard coating materials for polyurethane lens. These precursors are inexpensive and the preparation reaction is simple and straightforward. The effects of the sol-gel process parameters, viz, the type of precursors, the coupling agent (GPTS), and the curing agent (3-APS) were investigated. The surface property evaluation of ophthalmic lens was conducted with respect to the sc

Resumen
Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP) is the etiological agent of a severe inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in ruminants, known as Johne’s disease or paratuberculosis. Johne’s disease is considered to be one of the most serious diseases affecting dairy cattle both in Israel and worldwide. Heavy economic losses are incurred by dairy farmers due to the severe effect of subclinical infection on milk production, fertility, lower disease resistance and early culling. Its influence in the United States alone is staggering, causing an estimated loss of $1.5 billion to the agriculture indu

Resumen
The project sought to understand factors and mechanisms involved in the hardening of potato tubers. This syndrome inhibits heat softening due to intercellular adhesion (ICA) strengthening, compromising the marketing of industrially processed potatoes, particularly fresh peeled-cut or frozen tubers. However, ICA strengthening occurs under conditions which are inconsistent with the current ideas that relate it to Ca-pectate following pectin methyl esterase (PME) activity or to formation of rhamnogalacturonan (RG)-II-borate. First, it was necessary to induce strengthening of the middle lamellar c
