AbstractObjectives:To assist in defining patterns of methicillin-resistantStaphylococcus aureus(MRSA) colonization in a skilled nursing facility (SNF), we compared genotyping by field-inversion gel electrophoresis (FIGE) restriction endonuclease digestion analysis (REA) with phenotyping by antibiogram for defining strain relatedness among MRSA isolates from SNF patients.Design:Prospective screening culture surveillance for MRSA among patients in a community SNEMethods:Nares and stool swab cultures were obtained from newly admitted patients and from all patients quarterly. MRSA were isolated by

Antibiotics are frequently used for various infectious disease example; acute lower respiratory tract infection. But, injudicious use of antibiotic resistance is an emerging problem. The objective of this study was taken up to analyze the antibiogram pattern of bacterial isolated from the sputum samples of patient in Manmohan Memorial Medical College and Teaching Hospital. Initially, 250 sputum specimens of patients were collected and opted for the isolation and identification of isolates which detected 56.097% Klebsiella spp. 17.073 %, Pseudomonas aeruginosa 4.878 %, Burkholderia spp. 9.756 %

Abstract Background Antimicrobial resistance is a burden in Tanzania and the world economy, resulting in financial losses from lower production brought on by illness due to greater treatment expenses and death. Second- and third-line antibiotics like third generations of cephalosporins should be used rather than first-line, which is an expensive option, due to AMR. The direct effects of AMR include severe prolonged illnesses, prolonged hospital stays death, and (Global Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance., 2015) Methodology The retrospective study design was used to review AST to assess th

Resumen
In recent years, we have been facing a significant increase in antimicrobial resistance and complex enzymatic mechanisms. The challenge of antibiotic resistance is becoming dramatic. Among gram-positive it is spreading resistance to glycopeptides, reducing the possibility to use these drugs empirically. Among gram-negative rods, beside the spreading of extended-spectrum β-lactamases, there is an increased diffusion of carbapenemases. In order to administer the correct antibiotic therapy, physicians need a rapid and correct interpretation with non-automated tests to implement appropriate therap

Resumen
AbstractA large outbreak of infections caused by methicillin and aminoglycoside resistant Staphylococcus aureus provided the opportunity to evaluate mechanisms of resistance and compare the usefulness of typing systems. Between January 1979 and December 1980, 63 patients developed infections with S aureus resistant to multiple antibiotics, including methicillin and tobramycin. All isolates had an identical antibiogram and were phage type 47/54/75/77/83A. Beginning in January 1981, a superimposed outbreak caused by S aureus of the same phage type but with a resistance pattern now including gent

The study was undertaken to evaluate the bacteriology and antibiogram of isolates from diabetic patients with chronic foot ulcers in Nigeria. A total of 150 pus samples were collected and processed according to standard aerobic and anaerobic microbiological methods. Antibiogram was done using Kirby-Bauer method. Biofilm tests, ESBL & AmpC production was conducted using Congo red agar, Double disc synergy test and Cefoxitin disc test respectively. Total number of isolates obtained was 210. Resumen
Antibiotics resistance is an emerging problem in the management for infectious diseases. Patients are many a time prescribed with antibiotics without knowing that particular antibiotic sensitivity pattern with respect to the infectious microorganism. This study aims to detect the type of microbes causing certain infections in the hospital and also to detect the sensitivity pattern of the antibiotics to these microbes. We conducted a prospective study for six months on the neonates who were admitted in NICU. The blood samples were collected from these neonates before the administration of antib
