Resumen
Spatial layout optimization is a core of existing barracks renewal. Distinguishing from new built barracks, existing barrack spatial layout optimization needs to pay more attention to solve the contradiction between current and future. So in this chapter, we develop six primary design keys applied to existing barracks including harmony relations between barrack and its surrounding environment, emphasis on weakness construction, optimize allocation, improve security defense capabilities, enhance artistry of spatial layout and realize the whole structure optimization. Reference to ancient classical fortification thoughts and current construction conditions, we also explore 5 tactics to optimize existing barracks spatial layout , namely, function integration method, node co-ordinate method, axis control method, three-dimensional space construction method, as well as idle land reuse method. Finally, we choose one tipical case to integrated apply the above keys and tactics from theoretical and practical fields promoting the sustainable development of existing barrack .

"The hay barrack and other hay structures from the Land of Maramureș The hay barrack is a unique structure, consisting of four wooden poles which support a pyramidal roof, which can be raised or lowered, depending on the amount of hay sheltered from the weather. The Land of Maramureș (the northern half of the current Maramureș County), a quite well-known traditional life stronghold, can be considered ”the World’s hay capital”, a place where the hay culture is stronger than anywhere else and where the fields are filled up with ”classic” hay barracks (we estimate that there are probably 10-15,000 structures still left), with tens of thousands hay stacks, with thousands hay barracks with immovable roof and with countless drying hayracks of different types, so many that they change the look of the landscape. Moreover, there is the only place where the hay barracks are still used today exactly as in the Middle Ages (being filled regularly, manually, with traditionally harvested hay), and on a huge scale, not found elsewhere. With prehistoric origins, the most special structure, the hay barrack is considered to have its birthplace in the Netherlands, from where, since the 13th and 14th centuries, it spread over a large part of the continent, a territory bordered by Great Britain, France, Northern Italy, Croatia, Hungary, Northern Transylvania, Ukraine, Russia or Scandinavia. Today, everywhere, the unusual barrack has disappeared, except în Maramureș and the Netherlands - where there is the second largest group of preserved structures, but without being used anymore for storing hay. The study lists the main features of the construction, the villages where the hay barracks survive in more significant number, and it tries to find out the reason why this type of structure still persists so strongly in that region. At the end there are some old images from different places, as well as contemporary photographs taken in Maramureș, featuring various types of hay structures. Tidal range energy is one of the most predictable and reliable sources of renewable energy. This study’s main aim is to determine potential sites for tidal range power in East Malaysia, by analyzing tidal range distributions and resources and the feasibility of constructing barrages. Investigation was conducted in 34 sites, estimating their potential energy outputs and studying their areas for constructing barrages. Only 18 sites were marked as appropriate for constructing a tidal range energy extraction barrage. The highest potential power was found in Tanjung Manis, and its maximum capacity was calculated as 50.7kW. The second highest potential of tidal power extraction was found in Kuching Barrage at Pending, where an energy harvester could produce electric power up to 33.1kW.

Unitary pallido-nigral synaptic currents were measured using optogenetic stimulation, which activated up to three unitary synaptic inputs to each substantia nigra pars reticulata (SNr) cell. Episodic barrages of synaptic conductances were generated based on in vivo firing patterns of globus pallidus pars externa (GPe) cells and applied to SNr cells using conductance clamp. Barrage inputs were compared to continuous step conductances with the same mean. Barrage inputs and steps both slowed SNr neuron firing and produced disinhibition responses seen in peristimulus histograms. Barrages were less effective than steps at producing inhibition and disinhibition responses. Barrages, but not steps, produced irregular firing during the inhibitory response. Phase models of SNr neurons were constructed from their phase-resetting curves. The phase models reproduced the inhibition and disinhibition responses to the same inputs applied to the neurons. The disinhibition response did not require rebound currents but arose from reset of the cells’ oscillation. The differences in firing rate and irregularity in response to barrage and step inhibition resulted from the high sensitivity of SNr neurons to inhibition at late phases in their intrinsic oscillation. During step inhibition, cells continued rhythmic firing at a reduced rate. During barrages, brief bouts of intense inhibition stalled the cells’ phase evolution late in their cycle, close to firing, and even very brief respites from inhibition rapidly released single action potentials. The SNr cell firing pattern reflected the fine structure of the synaptic barrage from GPe, as well as its onset and offset. NEW & NOTEWORTHY The pallido-nigral pathway connects the striatum to spontaneously active basal ganglia output neurons in the substantia nigra. Each substantia nigra neuron receives powerful inhibitory synaptic connections from a small group of globus pallidus cells and may fire during pauses in pallidal activity. Despite lacking any hyperpolarization-activated rebound currents, they fire quickly to even brief pauses in the pallido-nigral inhibition. The mechanism of their rapid disinhibitory response is explained by features of their phase-resetting curves.

Independent mobility refers to children’s liberty to play freely in the neighbourhood without been supervised by adults. However, mobility restriction has affected child-friendliness in military barrack community in developing countries including Nigeria. The study aimed to explore principles of independent mobility in creating child-friendly barrack. Thirty journal articles related to children’s environment studies, military geographies and barrack housing were reviewed and analyzed. Children’s level of independent mobility impacts their physical, social, cognitive, and emotional developments. Consequently, walking or cycling-friendly environment as active travel mode was found to have positively contributed to improved well-being and quality of life of children in military barracks. Resumen
Electricity generation from the sea has many advantages in comparison with other renewable energy resources. Power can be generated from new or existing barrages. Based on previous location research, a suitable system to produce tidal range energy from a potential site was developed in this paper. The main objective of this research is to calculate the energy output of the Kuching Barrage of Sarawak State of Malaysia. The daily flushing process of Kuching Barrage is conducted during the low tide period and therefore to put up the ebb generation process is appropriate. The calculated period of power generation is determined to about 6 hours. The annual energy output is calculated based on a theoretical method, with the average daily potential energy calculated to be 5.8MW and approximately 10.23GWh/year could be harnessed. This research can be beneficial for energy generation with the use of a double basin scheme for the construction of new barrages in East Malaysia.

The Water Apportionment Accord (WAA) of Pakistan was instituted in 1991 to allocate Indus River water among Pakistan’s provinces. This paper assesses the performance of the WAA in terms of the accord’s ability to meet the barrages’ and environmental demands in the Lower Indus Basin. Use of metrics as assessment tools in water security and climate adaptation is an important field, with the potential to inform sustainable management policy. Reliability, resiliency, and vulnerability are used as indicators to define the system’s performance against supply. The results indicate from the pre-Accord period to the post-Accord period, the reliability of Guddu Barrage (the upstream-most barrage in the study) is not changed. However, at Sukkur and Kotri, the most downstream barrage in the study, reliability has significantly decreased. The Results reveal the high vulnerability of the Indus delta in Rabi season when the flows decline and the majority of the water at the Kotri Barrage is diverted.

Large barrages have been constructed on the main rivers in South Korea to store water and mitigate fluvial flooding damage. However, the increase in water levels behind the barrages can potentially lead to a rise in groundwater levels in the riversides. The purpose of this study was to describe the effect of a barrage on groundwater levels and to test the applicability of a numerical model to groundwater inundation in this context. The Shincheon–Baekcheon catchment is characterised mainly by agricultural land use and includes significant greenhouse cultivation. Its two zones, which are lower A and upper B basins, mainly yield fine- and coarse-grained deposits, respectively. Trend and distribution analyses of manual and automatic measurements of groundwater levels indicated that: (1) the groundwater levels generally increased as the river water levels rose after the river was dammed; (2) the significant correlation between groundwater and river water levels could lead to reductions in the groundwater levels if the barrage gates were opened as a control measure; and (3) the lowering of high groundwater levels during dry seasons is important for preventing soil wetting in the riversides.

For tidal power barrages, a breast-shot water wheel, with a hydraulic transmission, has significant advantages over a conventional Kaplan turbine. It is better suited to combined operations with pumping that maintain the tidal range upstream of the barrage (important in reducing the environmental impact), and is much less harmful to fish. It also does not require tapered entry and exit ducts, making the barrage much smaller and lighter, so that it can conveniently be built in steel. For the case of the Severn Estuary, UK, it is shown that a barrage at Porlock would generate an annual average power of 4 GW (i.e. 35 TWh yr −1 ), maintain the existing tidal ranges upstream of it and reduce the tidal ranges downstream of it by only about 10%. The weight of steel required, in relation to the annual average power generated, compares very favourably with a recent offshore wind farm.

The purpose of the present research was to investigate the structural relationships of role differentiation, cohesion, team member satisfaction, and perceived group performance and to examine the moderating effects of barrack’s structure and squad leader’s initiating structure in these relationships. A total of 924 ROK Army soldiers participated in this research and data were collected through survey. Results of the structural equation modeling analysis showed that role differentiation was positively related to cohesion, team member satisfaction, and perceived group performance, respectively. Also, cohesion mediated the relationships between role differentiation and team member satisfaction as well as between role differentiation and perceived group performance. The moderating effect of barrack’s structure in the relationship between role differentiation and team member satisfaction was significant, suggesting that team member satisfaction was higher in the hierarchical barrack than in the horizontal barrack when soldiers perceived that the role differentiation was high. The moderating effect of squad leader’s initiating structure in the relationship between role differentiation and perceived group performance was also significant, suggesting that the relationship between role differentiation and perceived group performance was stronger when squad leader’s initiating structure was high than low. Lastly, the results, implications, and limitations of this research were discussed.

Resumen
The area of the former barracks lies near Sokolnice falling into the periphery of Brno. It is a picturesque village that has a rich history. The barracks are located on a hill called Stará hora, there are several cadastral areas. Near the building, we can find a radar that manages the nearby Brno airport, or the Peace Mound built on the Prateck Hill, soldiers fall to remembrance. The design principle was based on the given operation and its related functions. Dining room, rehabilitation, barber, pedicure, buffet and, last but not least, a multifunctional hall with a small library. The destruction of the unnecessary transformer station and the replenishment of the mass was a logical solution to the situation. It is an assembled reinforced concrete frame 8x8m. Inside the half-block we find a terrace with a pool, which is trying to create a specific microclimate and humidify the surroundings. The pool also serves as a retention tank and the house effectively manages rainwater. Within the lifetime, because of the corrosion of reinforced concrete and the unclear condition of the structure, I designed the exterior cladding to demolish and build a new cladding, a brick made of ceramic blocks. The house is designed in a minimalist spirit and cooperates with the greenery in its surroundings. Especially in long-distance views of integration into the landscape, this greenery is valued. The spirit of place in heavy air bears a strange whiff of dragging death that, when thinking about the history of a place, froze and freezes ... so perhaps while resting before the last journey ... that house discourages and breathes a little life into dying ...

La construction des barrages hydroelectriques de tignes et de serre-poncon provoquent la mise en eau des communes de tignes (savoie) en 1952, de savines (hautes-alpes) et d'ubaye (basses-alpes) entre 1959 et 1961. Mis en place par l'electricite de france, ces amenagements entrainent la disparition du chef-lieu des villages et de quelques hameaux; ils privent les habitants de leur lieu de vie et de leurs moyens de subsistance. Imagines par l'administration et envisages par des societes privees avant la nationalisation de l'electricite, ils ne connaissent une application que lorsqu'aboutit un consensus sur la necessaire modernisation de la france. Les micro-societes montagnardes, dont les modes de fonctionnement socio-economiques different selon le site, reagissent alors a ces amenagements selon leur degre de cohesion interne et la nature de leur rapport a la societe globale. Forts de leur culture de service "ponts et chaussees", les responsables du service de l'equipement e. D. F. Accordent des indemnites a la hauteur du sacrifice consenti dans un souci de paix sociale. L'intervention des pouvoirs publics qui s'inscrit dans la politique d'amenagement du territoire inauguree au debut des annees 1950 favorise pour sa part l'octroi de dedommagements aux collectivites afin d'assurer le renouveau economique de ces zones "defavorisees". Le barrage acheve, les populations doivent se preoccuper de leur reclassement. Apparaissent alors des choix qui s'inscrivent dans l'evolution de la societe francaise des annees cinquante : elles changent d'activite ou de lieu de vie quand certains passent de l'etat de paysan a la profession d'agriculteur. The construction of the hydroelectric dams at tignes and serre-poncon generates villages' submersion : tignes (savoie) in 1952, savines (hautes-alpes) and ubaye (basses-alpes) beetwen 1959 and 1961. By this dams built by electricite de france, people loose their houses and their jobs. Imaginated by the administration and programed by private societies before the nationalization, these dams are built only when exists a general consensus about france modernization. The alpins micro-societies - which are caracterised by some differents social and economical functionings - react according to the degree of their intern cohesion and the nature of their link with the global society. The e. D. F. 's equipement service, which is caracterised by a strong intern culture, accord important indemnities for preserving social peace. On it side, the administration is in favor of the concession of compensations to collectivities, according to the territory planing politic inaugurated in the fifties. The dam erected, people have to take care of their future. Then appear some choices wich are in keeping with the evolution of french society in the post second world war : they "choose" a new job or a new locality ; some of them who had the state of peasant become agriculturists. The villages pursue evolutions engaged before the dam was erected and which celebrate the end of the peasant france : the agricultur is no more the center of their functioning, the tertiary sector take an increasing importance

Cette thèse contribue au domaine de la modélisation numérique de l’influence de l’hétérogénéité sur le comportement hydro-thermique d’un barrage en remblai. Les conductivités hydrauliques à saturation des couches du noyau de barrage sont estimées par la méthode géostatistique en considérant la continuité spatiale de la teneur en particules fines, la teneur en eau et la densité sèche. Les valeurs plus faibles de conductivités hydrauliques dans la partie aval du noyau sont fournies à partir de la modélisation numérique de la dissolution, de transport, de l’exsolution, et de la diffusion du gaz à la frontière amont du noyau. Les conductivités hydrauliques à saturation prédites ainsi que les valeurs les plus faibles de conductivités hydrauliques non saturées dans la partie aval sont utilisées comme paramètres d’entrée dans la simulation numérique de l’influence de l’hétérogénéité. Cinq études paramétriques ont été effectuées avec la présence d’une ou plusieurs couches dans le noyau, incluant des valeurs variables de conductivité hydraulique, afin d’étudier l’influence de la variabilité de la conductivité hydraulique ainsi que de l’emplacement et l’épaisseur de couches perméables face à la réponse thermique. Le modèle numérique permet également de simuler la réponse thermique mensuelle du noyau, ce qui révèle l’existence d’une autre zone plus perméable dans la partie inférieure du noyau.
This thesis contributes to the field of numerical modeling of the influence of heterogeneity on the hydro-thermal behavior of an embankment dam. The layering saturated hydraulic conductivities are estimated by the geostatistical method with the consideration of spatial continuities of fines content, water content and dry density. The lower values of hydraulic conductivities in the downstream portion of the core are provided from the numerical study on the dissolution, transportation, exsolution and diffusion of the gas at the upstream boundary. The predicted saturated hydraulic conductivities as well as the lower value of unsaturated hydraulic conductivities in the downstream portion are used as input parameters in the numerical simulation of heterogeneous influence. Five parametric studies performed with presence of one or more layers within the core with increased values of hydraulic conductivity are simulated in numerical models to investigate the influence from variable values of hydraulic conductivities as well as the changing locations and thickness of pervious layers on the thermal response. The numerical model also simulates the monthly thermal response of the core, which reveals the existence of another more pervious zone in the lower portion of the core.

Un carottier à triple paroi a permis la récupération d'échantillons de calibre PQ3 et ZQ3, dans le till glaciaire des fondations du barrage Jules-Allard, dans le sud du Québec. Des essais cross-hole ont permis d'obtenir des modules de Young variant entre 1300 et 2600 MPa. Les essais triaxiaux consolidé non drainés de chargement monotones ont permis l'obtention de modules de Young Emax variant entre 290 et 6000 MPa, notamment en fonction de la fraction de gravier de l'échantillon. Les modules de Young des échantillons de calibre ZQ3 étaient similaires à ceux obtenus avec les essais cross-hole et leurs coefficients de Poisson étaient régulièrement nuls. Lors d'essais triaxiaux de chargement cycliques, les échantillons ont subi une contraction, avant de dilater à l'atteinte d'un point de transformation de phase, lorsque les contraintes ont croisé le cheminement de contraintes d'un échantillon chargé de façon monotone, à la même contrainte effective de consolidation. A triple tube wireline core barrel allowed to retrieve PQ3 and ZQ3 calibre samples from the foundation glacial till of the Jules-Allard dam, South of Quebec. Cross-hole testing allowed to obtain Young's modulus ranging from 1300 to 2600 MPa. Consolidated-undrained triaxial monotonic testing, yielded Young's modulus Emax ranging between 290 MPa and 6000 MPa, notably as a function of the amount of gravel particles present in the samples. ZQ3 samples Young modulus were similar to those obtained using the cross-hole testing. In addition, the Poisson's ratio of these samples were regularly zero. Des planches d’essai en enrochement ont été construites dans le but de déterminer les conditions de compactage optimales des zones d’enrochement de la Romaine-2. Ces planches d’essai ont été compactées en utilisant une nouvelle technologie de compactage, soit le contrôle de compactage en continu (Continuous Compaction Control (CCC)). L’objectif principal de ce mémoire est d’évaluer le potentiel d’utilisation de cette technologie pour l’analyse de la performance des barrages en remblai. Pour se faire, les données CCC des planches d’essai et les résultats des essais in-situ réalisés sur celles-ci ont été utilisés. Premièrement, une méthode de traitement des données CCC a été développée. Par la suite, à partir des données CCC triées et traitées des planches d’essai, un paramètre de compactage, dit CMVr, est développé. Ce paramètre est représentatif des conditions de compactage des différentes planches d’essai, tout comme les résultats des essais in-situ. Des relations ont donc été développées entre le CMVr et les modules de déformation issus des essais in-situ. Les résultats montrent que les modules de déformation augmentent avec l’augmentation du CMVr, tel qu’attendu. Toutefois, une dispersion non négligeable des données est observée autour des relations. Afin de confirmer les tendances obtenues, il est recommandé de réaliser plus d’essais in-situ pour un même matériau et de les effectuer à différentes passes de compacteur afin d’élargir le spectre d’énergie de compactage évalué. Autrement, la technologie CCC est considéré prometteuse pour l’analyse de performance des barrages en remblai. Vu son caractère continu, les zones de faiblesse peuvent être rapidement ciblées. Des analyses supplémentaires sont toutefois nécessaires afin d’utiliser le CCC dans le but d’estimer les tassements d’un barrage

Le comportement de grands barrages en enrochement d'Hydro-Québec à la suite des tassements différentiels de l'enrochement lors de la mise en eau a amené l'entreprise à se questionner sur les relations contraintes-déformations de l'enrochement et ce qui les influence. Pour le barrage Romaine-2, il était d'autant plus important que l'enrochement soit rigide et ne connaisse pas de grands tassements différentiels puisque le noyau est en béton asphaltique. Il est donc plus étroit et a des pentes plus raides que les ouvrages zonés en enrochement à noyau de till qu'Hydro-Québec à l'habitude de construire. Pour évaluer les propriétés et les tassements de l'enrochement, une revue des facteurs d'influence de ces paramètres est importante et a été réalisée dans le cadre de ce mémoire. Ensuite, plus spécifiquement, l'influence de ces facteurs sur l'enrochement du barrage RO-2 a été analysée. Il a été conclu que l'enrochement utilisé pour la construction du barrage Romaine-2 est de bonne qualité, a été mis en place adéquatement et a montré de hautes masses volumiques, de faibles tassements et des modules de déformation élevés.

La résistance du till de la Romaine 3 a été étudiée sous sollicitations cycliques grâce à un nouvel appareil de cisaillement simple cyclique. Les essais ont été effectués à différentes teneurs en eau de compactage (côté sec et côté humide de l’optimum Proctor) et à différentes contraintes de cisaillement cyclique. Il a été démontré que les échantillons compactés du côté sec de l’optimum Proctor ont nécessité environ dix fois plus de cycles de cisaillement pour atteindre la rupture que les échantillons compactés du côté humide. Les essais effectués à faible ratio de cisaillement ont aussi nécessité l’application de dix fois plus de cycles de cisaillement que ceux effectués à ratio de cisaillement élevé avant d’atteindre la rupture. Le projet de recherche présenté s’inscrit dans le cadre de la chaire de recherche industrielle CRSNG – Hydro-Québec sur l’optimisation du cycle de vie des barrages en remblai.
The resistance of Romaine 3 till was studied under cyclic loading using a new cyclic simple shear apparatus. The tests were carried out at different compaction water contents (dry and wet sides of Proctor optimum) and at different cyclic shear stress levels. It was found that ten times more cycles were needed for samples compacted on the dry side of optimum to reach failure than for samples compacted on the wet side of optimum. It was also found that the tests carried out at low cyclic stress ratio took ten times more cycles to reach failure then tests carried out at high cyclic stress ratios. The presented research project is part of the NSERC – Hydro-Québec Industrial Research Chair in life cycle optimisation for embankment dams.

As barras transpalatinas são dispositivos ortodônticos com grande utilidade na prática clinica, atravessam o palato presas ao 1º Molar superior e têm aplicações diversas podendo impedir ou efetuar movimento dentário. O presente trabalho teve como objetivos analisar as diversas indicações das barras transpalatinas e comparar a barra de Goshgarian com a barra de Zachrisson. Neste contexto foram considerados na revisão da literatura artigos que comparassem ambas as barras. Dentro das limitações impostas pelo tipo de revisão realizada podemos concluir que a barra transpalatina com melhores resultados a nível de momentos e forças aplicadas é a barra de Zachrisson, porém deve ser analisado o efeito pretendido e a melhor opção terapêutica deve ser escolhida.
The transpalatal bars are orthodontic devices with great utility in Clinical Practice, they cross the palate and are clutch to the 1st upper Molar. The applications are very different, with them we can stop dental movement or enforce it. The present work proposes itself to analyze the indications of transpalatal bars comparing the types that are most used - Goshgarian bar and Zachrisson - through existing studies and literature. With this work the conclusion was that the Zachrisson bar shows the best results of applied forces and moments, however it must be always considered the desired effect and the best option therapy must be chosen.

Este artigo apresenta uma metodologia baseada em um fluxo de potência intervalar (FPI) usando as equações de injeção de correntes aplicadas em redes de distribuição ativas. Na abordagem proposta, barras com unidades de geração distribuída (GD) são tratadas de duas maneiras distintas. A primeira forma assume que a geração distribuída possibilita o controle de tensão na barra em que está alocada através da injeção de reativos, sendo modelada como uma barra PV nas equações de fluxo de potência. A segunda forma assume que as GDs não provêm reativos para o sistema. Neste caso, são modeladas como barras PQ sem controle de tensão. Através da formulação de um FPI usando o operador de Krawczyk, as variáveis de estados são obtidas assumindo incertezas sobre valores de carga e geração. O impacto das GDs e seus modelos são investigados neste artigo através da sensibilidade das tensões obtidas pelo método intervalar. O sistema ativo de 18 barras do Reino Unido é utilizado para a condução de simulações e análises comparativas de casos de estudo.

Resumen
Tidal schemes such as the Mersey Barrage are being considered for UK energy generation, because barrage electricity generation is renewable, reliable and predictable and creates no toxic by-products. A key problem perceived to arise from barrages is the detrimental environmental impact, which may include changes in water levels, which affects species like wading birds; altered water turbidity, which affects fish and plant species; and changes to sediment drift patterns, potentially causing sediment or pollution trapping. Some of these, however, may be positive outcomes of the barrage. In order to assess the accuracy of two-dimensional, depth-averaged models that are commonly used for large-scale modelling, flume experiments and 3-D computations have been undertaken to compare with depth-averaged modelling. The 2-D model was found to be inaccurate in predicting the close-to-surface flow patterns close to the barrage, however further from the barrage the model accurately predicted the approximate velocity magnitude at the surface. The 3-D model accurately predicted the velocity profiles at the depths and distances from the barrage that were analysed, with a few exceptions. Both models need altering and refining in order to obtain reasonable results for the friction velocity and bed shear stress, and this will be a further development of this project.

Abstract There are two approaches to extracting power from tides — either turbines are placed in areas of strong flows or turbines are placed in barrages enabling the two sides of the barrage to be closed off and a head to build up across the barrage. Both of these energy extraction approaches will have a significant back effect on the flow, and it is vital that this is correctly modelled in any numerical simulation of tidal hydrodynamics. This paper presents the inclusion of both tidal stream turbines and tidal barrages in the depth-averaged shallow water equation model DG-SWEM. We represent the head loss due to tidal stream turbines as a line discontinuity — thus we consider the turbines, and the energy lost in local wake-mixing behind the turbines, to be a sub-grid scale processes. Our code allows the inclusion of turbine power and thrust coefficients which are dependent on Froude number, turbine blockage, and velocity, but can be obtained from analytical or numerical models as well as experimental data. The barrage model modifies the existing culvert model within the code, replacing the original cross-barrier pipe equations. At the location of this boundary, velocities through sluice gates are calculated according to the orifice equation. For simulating the turbines, a Hill Chart for low head bulb turbines provided by Andritz Hydro is used. We demonstrate the implementations on both idealised geometries where it is straightforward to compare against other models and numerical simulations of real candidate sites for tidal energy in Malaysia and the Bristol Channel.

Este trabalho apresenta os resultados obtidos com um procedimento alternativo para definir a quantidade de compensação reativa shunt a ser alocada, visando à redução das perdas e a melhoria da margem de estabilidade estática de tensão. A quantidade de compensação reativa shunt a ser alocada é determinada com base nas curvas de perda total de potência ativa e reativa versus magnitude de tensão de um barramento escolhido. Os melhores locais para compensação de derivação são definidos pelos fatores de participação de barra do modo crítico fornecido pela análise modal estática. As análises de desempenho foram conduzidas para duas configurações básicas do sistema de teste do IEEE de 118 barras e para uma contingência de linha de transmissão específica nesse sistema, que leva a um problema de instabilidade de tensão com característica predominantemente local.

Resumen
Este artigo apresenta uma nova abordagem para a avaliação da estabilidade de tensão em sistemas de potência utilizando análise modal aplicada aos resultados obtidos por um estimador de estados. Na abordagem proposta, medições são obtidas de uma rede elétrica monitorada por medidores de grandezas elétricas e essas são processadas através do método dos mínimos quadrados ponderados (MQP). A partir das estimativas de magnitudes e ângulos de tensões em barramentos do sistema, é possível calcular uma matriz de sensibilidade das potências reativas em relação às magnitudes de tensão através de equações algébricas. A análise modal é aplicada nesta matriz, calculando seus autovalores e autovetores os quais são utilizados para se estimar fatores de participação de cada barra do sistema indicando as mais críticas. O sistema IEEE de 30 barras será utilizado para a condução de testes e os resultados de estimação serão analisados através de métricas estatísticas.
