Beach ridges originate from various depositional processes and occur in a variety of settings. This paper assesses their nature and distribution on the islands of the Greater Caribbean based on a literature review and the identification of sites using Google Earth© 7.3 imagery. The morphological and orientation parameters were measured for each site, and a measure of storm density was developed. These were statistically analysed to develop a classification of beach ridge types. The results show a diversity of beach ridge systems, in terms of setting, morphology, composition and preservation. The Cape Canaveral Peninsula is the largest Holocene coastal sand deposit composed of beach ridges on the Atlantic coast of Florida. It is composed of 16 beach-ridge sets that are separated by erosional surfaces. Despite its prominence as a Holocene coastal depocenter, there are a limited amount of chronological data constraining the timing of its formation. In this study, we apply optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating on sand-sized quartz and radiocarbon dating on individual marine shells to develop a refined chronology of the Cape Canaveral beach-ridge plain with particular focus on

Abstract. The beach-ridge sequence of the Usumacinta–Grijalva delta borders a 300 km long section of the southern Gulf of Mexico coast. With around 500 beach ridges formed in the last 6500 years, the sequence is unsurpassed in the world in terms of numbers of individual ridges preserved, continuity of the record, and temporal resolution. We mapped and dated the most extensively accreted part of the sequence, linking six phases of accretion to river mouth reconfigurations and constraining their ages with 14C and OSL dating. Many prograded barriers and some dunefields in theworld have been termed 'beach ridge' plains, but the actual genesis of the 'ridges' is often unknown. Use of the terms, berms, beach ridges and foredunes is also confusing in the literature because their definitions are highly variable and are commonly used interchangeably. Thus, the formation and definition of sand berms, beach ridges and foredunes is briefly reviewed. Beach ridges are re-defined as entirely wave formed deposits which are most commonly formed during high wave conditions and/or elevated water levels (e.g. storm surges). Foredun

Beach ridges constructed by pluvial Lake Clover in Elko County, Nevada during the Late Pleistocene were investigated with ground-penetrating radar (GPR). The primary objective was to document the internal architecture of these shorelines and to evaluate whether they were constructed during lake rise or fall. GPR data were collected with a ground-coupled 400-Mhz antenna and SIR-3000 controller. To constrain the morphology of the ridges, detailed topographic surveys were collected with a Topcon GTS-235W total station referenced to a second class 0 vertical survey point. The land itself provides a visual history of the layering of the primary frontal dune marching lakeward as the beach-ridge migrated south. Smaller paleotsunami (6–8 m in height) likely entered the beach plain interior (4-5 m elevation) through the paleo-Necanicum bay mouth. ABSTRACT Coastal ridge plains represent a valuable record of past shoreline deposition. However, there remain questions regarding shoreline behavior on intermediate timescales (sub-centennial), the impact of storms, and process of ridge genesis. We address these questions through high-resolution reconstruction of the sandy-beach progradation at Boydtown Beach in Twofold Bay, southeastern Australia, over the past 1000 years using ground-penetrating radar (GPR) and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating. Specifically, the connection between long-term (decades or more) precipitation intensity/seasonality and sediment export from river systems has not been established. The mechanism of Holocene barrier formation aids in determining island geomorphologic responses to modifying climatic processes of the surrounding environment. The geometry and composition of local antecedent topography plays a role in barrier formation by providing an elevated base, nucleus for sedimentation and local sediment supply. Investigation of barriers' subsurface geology provides insight into island formation and evolution. High-resolution shallow seismic data acquired in the island's nearshore zone and interior canals, correlated with existing drillcore data, reveal that Cat Island,

Resumen
The Enterprise map area is a low-relief terrain bisected by a prominent Devonian carbonate bedrock escarpment. Ice-flow indicators show a clockwise shift in Laurentide Ice Sheet flow from southwest (230°), to west (280°), to northwest (305°). A late-stage southwestward surge from the Great Slave Lake basin is also preserved as drumlinoid ridges below the escarpment. During deglaciation, ice retreat impounded northeastern drainage forming local ice-contact lakes and areas of subaerial glaciofluvial outwash. As ice continued to retreat, the northern portion of the map area became inundated by gl

Resumen
The Tinney Hills map area consists primarily of glacially and meltwater scoured bedrock, discontinuous till in the southwest and central-east, and postglacial marine sediments in coastal lowlands and along river valleys inland. The boundaries of many till deposits are cut to bedrock by widespread subglacial meltwater erosion. Ridged till in particular, is often associated with eskers and other glaciofluvial sediments and meltwater erosion. Striations and streamlined till landforms indicate regional ice flow towards the north-northwest and northwest, and later crosscutting relationships recordi

Resumen
Preliminary mapping studies of Beechey Lake map area, through aerial photograph interpretation and limited legacy data, improve our understanding of surficial sediments and glacial history. The area is dominated by glacially and meltwater-scoured bedrock, hummocky moraine, till of varying thickness occasionally streamlined, and thin ridged till. Glacial lake sediments are predominantly in river valley lowlands. Glaciolacustrine delta and raised beach elevations range from 410 m to 230 m and 440 m to 290 m, respectively. Glaciofluvial deposits consist of eskers, ice-contact mounds, proglacial o

Resumen
Cockburn Island landscape is somewhat unique in the northern Lake Huron-Georgian Bay basin, in that, itmp;gt;'s overall topography and relief is dependant primarily on glacial sediments that can exceed thicknesses of 85 m (275 feet), rather than the bedrock surface. Cockburn Island is underlain by gently dipping carbonate and clastic rocks of Middle Silurian age that outcrop in a belt that rings the northern half of the island. The crest of the Niagara Escarpment crosses the northern part of the Island. In places the bedrock surface has been affected by karst processes particularly in areas ab
