Resumen

This study investigates voiceless stop lenition in Chilean Spanish. Recent studies (e.g. Pérez 2007, Figueroa & Evans 2014 among others) have documented high levels of lenition of /bdg/ in Chilean Spanish. As a result, the present study seeks to document the degree to which the voiceless stops /ptk/ undergo lenition in this variety of Spanish. Furthermore, the relationship between lenition and social factors (e.g., age, gender, and socioeconomic stratification) is examined. Data was taken from the sociolinguistic interviews of 32 speakers from the Province of Concepción, Chile. In all, 4,419 intervocalic tokens of /ptk/ were analyzed for lenition using three different measurement criteria: total voicing, articulatory reduction, and duration. Results confirm that, according to all three criteria, elevated levels of lenition are observed in the production of /ptk/ in Concepción. Likewise, results indicate that as a social phenomenon, voiceless stop lenition in Concepcion is primarily conditioned by age and gender.

Resumen

The presence of Solanometra antarctica has been reported in the continental slope of central Chile, however, some studies suggest that this species could have been confused with Florometra magellanica. In this study, 11 crinoid specimens obtained in the continental slope of Central Chile were analyzed and compared with other specimens previously collected in that same region and catalogued as Florometra magellanica. The morphological and meristic characteristics confirm that the crinoids collected in Central Chile, off Concepcion and Los Vilos, correspond to Florometra magellanica.

Resumen

The current depletion of fossil fuels and environmental degradation are requiring greater energy efficiency in buildings, particularly in the residential sector. However, environmental improvement actions for dwellings are usually based on general considerations, without identifying the most appropriate measurements to be taken in each case, or reviewing their application with stakeholders. This article puts forward a strategy to propose effective and feasible modifications in the design or refurbishment of single-family homes to reduce energy use while maintaining indoor comfort. The improvements proposed are based on dynamic energy simulations of individual models adapted to local realities that can be carried out by regular professionals. The process includes the review of studies and information on the geographic area, and compilation of the constructive features and occupancy data of each house to create a proper energy behaviour model. Possible improvements to the building are then simulated separately in each model and the results recorded. Subsequently, a budgetary analysis of these alternatives according to construction costs and financial projections is carried out in order to identify retrofit packages and consult the opinions of residents and builders. The application of this strategy is demonstrated in the study of several houses in Concepción, Chile, where different sets of measures have been identified to achieve high reductions in energy demand while having low cost and being highly appreciated by the participants. This provides a methodology for developing and validating effective solutions for the environmental improvement of existing dwellings and new housing projects.

Resumen

Abstract Gliders have become an efficient and reliable oceanographic platform for measuring physical and biogeochemical properties of the seawater, and the global glider fleet is rapidly expanding. In Chile, glider observations have been carried out in very different oceanographic environments, from the mild upwelling region of subtropical northern Chile to the channels of southern Patagonia. Herein, we briefly present observations and results obtained in the oxygen minimum zone off Concepcion (∼36°30′S). Many new features have been observed in this region thanks to the relatively high resolution of the glider measurements. Future plans for the glider program include an oceanic time series off central Chile that will contribute to the regional observing system of the ocean and allow evaluations of low-frequency changes like those associated with El Niño and La Niña events.

Resumen

This research explores sex and discipline-area differences in empathy across theInterpersonal Reactivity Index developed by Davis. A descriptive cross-sectionalstudy was performed with the participation of 680 university students, divided into351 women and 329 men belonging to Physics-Mathematics, Social-Humanisticand Biological-Chemistry areas. The results show sex differences in threedimensions of the inventory with higher scores for women. No differences inrelation to the subject area of the students were observed. There is interactionbetween sex and discipline in the mathematical-physicist women who obtainedhigher scores in Personal Distress than other participants.
Esta investigación explora diferencias por sexo y área disciplinar en Empatíamedidas a través del Interpersonal Reactivity Index desarrollado por Davis. Serealiza un estudio descriptivo-transversal con la participación de 680 estudiantesuniversitarios, distribuidos en 351 mujeres y hombres, pertenecientes a las áreasde física y matemáticas, social y humanista, química y biológica. Los resultadosmuestran diferencias de sexo en tres dimensiones del inventario con puntajesmayores para las mujeres. No se observaron diferencias en relación con el áreadisciplinar del estudiantado. Existe interacción entre sexo y área disciplinar en lasmujeres físico-matemáticas, quienes obtuvieron puntajes superiores en PersonalDistress, respecto de los demás participantes.
Esta pesquisa explora as diferenças de gênero nas medidas de empatia e dedisciplina em todo o Índice de Reatividade Interpessoal desenvolvidos pela área deDavis. Um estudo descritivo transversal foi realizado com a participação de 680estudantes universitários divididos em 351 mulheres e 329 homens pertencentesà Física e Matemática, ciências sociais e humanas, e Química Biológica. Osresultados mostram diferenças em três dimensões do inventário com escoresmais elevados para as mulheres. Não foram observadas diferenças em relação àárea disciplinar dos alunos. Há uma interação entre sexo e disciplina no físicomatemático, as mulheres que obtiveram escores mais altos em angústia pessoal ,respeitar a área de outros participantes.

Resumo: Os objetivos desta dissertação são: 1. Analisar comparativamente a gestão do território e da água nas regiões metropolitanas de Campinas (Brasil) e de Concepción (Chile), que sofrem com graves impactos ambientais, produto da expansão urbana e industrial, tais como enchentes, contaminação do solo, água, etc.; 2. Conhecer o grau e as possibilidades de participação de diferentes atores sociais no desenvolvimento local de ambas as regiões; 3. Entender como os atores público/privados participam do processo de gestão da água e do território; 4. Propor políticas de gestão que envolvam a participação cidadã. Para o desenvolvimento deste estudo, partimos da hipótese de que a gestão pública do território e da água de ambas as regiões apresentam falhas, que são responsáveis pela contaminação da água e pelo uso intensivo do solo, além de comprometer a qualidade de vida e o desenvolvimento futuro de ambas as regiões metropolitanas. O trabalho compreende uma pesquisa bibliográfica e uma entrevista estruturada, além da observação em campo, que explicitam as falhas de gestão e os problemas ambientais. A análise comparativa da gestão do território e da água que se estabelece em ambas as regiões permite a reflexão sobre a importância do governo local e da participação cidadã nos instrumentos de gestão para garantir a preservação dos recursos naturais, a qualidade de vida e o desenvolvimento futuro
Abstract: The purposes of this essay are: 1. To analyze the management of the territory and the water of Campinas (Brazil) and Concepción (Chile) metropolitan regions, which suffer with serious environmental impacts; 2. To know the level and the possibilities of the participation of different social actors in the local development of both regions; 3. To understand how the public and private actors take part of the water and territory management; 4. To propose politics of management that evolves citizen participation. To develop this research, we start from the hypothesis that the water and the territory public management of both regions present faults, that are responsible by the contamination of the water and by the intensive use of the soil, besides jeopardizing the quality of life and the future development of both metropolitan regions. The study is composing by a bibliographic research and a structured interview, besides the field observation, which show the management faults and the environmental problems. The management comparative analysis of the territory and the water that are establishing in both regions permit the reflection about the importance of the local government and the citizen participation in the management instruments to guarantee the preservation of the natural resources, the quality of life and the future development

Resumo: O objetivo fundamental desta investigação é conhecer a situação particular dos profissionais da educação física, com relação ao fenômeno do stress. Este propósito não é nada fácil se é considerado que o stress é uma reação do sistema geral de adaptação para os diferentes incentivos da vida do homem, na qual o trabalho compõe uma das dimensões que geram stress; e embora esta situação é comum a todas as pessoas que são parte do mundo do trabalho, estudos prévios (Cifuentes1995), demonstram que são os professores, o segmento operário que apresenta o stress mais alto e então, talvez de um modo lógico, surge o interesse para conhecer as realidades particulares de cada uma das áreas da educação, dentro das quais se acha a educação física. É aplicado o auto reporte de sintomas ansiosos, depressivos e somatomorfos para a medição de stress e embora este estudo seja descritivo e não correlacional, é possível coletar informação de outros fatores que normalmente também são potenciais agentes estressores, embora de modo referencial. Os resultados obtidos neste estudo, nos indica que o 85% dos professores de educação física têm níveis de stress altos
Abstract: The fundamental aim (lens) of this investigation (research) is to know the particular situation of the professionals of the physical education, in relation with the phenomenon of the stress. This intention is not easy at all if it thinks that the stress is a reaction of the general system of adjustment to the different stimuli of the life of the man, in which the work composes one of the dimensions that generates stress; and though this situation is common to all the persons who form a part of the world of the work, previous studies (Cifuentes1995), they demonstrate that they are the teachers the labour segment that presents the highest levels of stress and therefore, probably in a logical way, there arises the interest to know the particular realities of each one of the areas of the education, inside which one finds the physical education. The car was applied bring (report) of anxious, depressive symptoms and somatomorfos for the measurement of stress and though this study is descriptive and not correlacional, it was achieved to gather information of other factors that normally are also powerful agents estressores, though in a referential way. The results obtained in this study, indicate us that 85 % of the teachers of physical education has high levels of stress

Resumen

This dissertation is focused on constructing and testing an analytical and conceptual framework to study structures of governance moving concrete urban initiatives forward. Relying on Anthony Giddens' notion of structuration I consider structures of governance as outcomes of a recursive relation between social practices and broader properties of the social system and, by embracing some insights from Michel Foucault, I regard the execution of power as a necessary condition for the process of structuration to occur. The framework I develop here suggests reading structures of governance as power arrangements constructed through socio-discursive rules operating for analytical purposes at three distinct functional or institutional levels: policy-making, implementation, and operational. In this way, I attempt to capture the multi-level exercise of power, relating the local conditions in which urban initiatives unfold to broader political and economic situations. I take two Chilean case studies to apply this construct in comparative perspective: the North Rivera Project in the city of Concepcion and the Portal of the Bicentenary Project in the city of Santiago. Both initiatives will bring about profound changes in these cities in terms of creating new spaces for capital investment, building new residential and consumption districts, and affecting the local community either directly through physical displacement or indirectly through the impacts of nearby new urbanized areas. To interpret the rules in place that frame governing processes I make use of semi-structured and documentary evidence. In the concluding section I argue that the analytical and conceptual framework constructed was useful to examine interconnections among levels, to define the channels used by social actors to control society and urban space, and to generate strategic information on which to base policy recommendations. This framework was able to disentangle the social practices creating the distinct and particularistic power relations moving each project forward, suggesting that structures of governance are not only being constructed vertically but also horizontally and/or spatially via actors operating under possibilities and constraints emerging from the broader system and conscious, at the same time, of the local conditions in which they operate and able to deploy strategies consistent with those conditions.

O tema objeto da presente pesquisa refere-se aos sistemas de ingresso a Educação Superior. A pesquisa objetivou conhecer a eficácia dos sistemas vigentes na Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina e na Universidad de Concepción através da medição, por métodos estatísticos, da correlação existente entre os escores de postulação e o rendimento acadêmico dos alunos durante o primeiro ano de estudos na universidade. além disto, procurou-se conhecer quais seriam os pesos ideais dos atuais fatores de seleção no cálculo dos escores de seleção. O método utilizado foi o de "análise exploratória de dados", que procura familiarizar-se com o problema em estudo. com este objetivo, foi estudado o processo de seleção de três cursos (Direito, Engenharia e Medicina) das universidades objeto da pesquisa. Como conclusão geral deste estudo, podemos destacar a importância que representam os processos de seleção e a necessidade da existência de estudos sistemáticos referentes a este tema. as conclusões obtidas deixam dúvidas sobre a eficácia dos atuais sistemas de seleção às universidades e, estimula o desenvolvimento de trabalhos semelhantes que permitam ratificar ou não os resultados obtidos nesta pesquisa.

Se trabajo con la utilización de Sistemas de Información Geográfica (SIG) y técnicas de análisis espacial como principales herramientas de investigación, lo que permite identificar el comportamiento y visualización de las distintas variables estudiadas que explican o condicionan tanto los actuales patrones de localización de los conjuntos, así como también de las posibles ubicaciones espaciales. El producto de este estudio es una metodología para identificar “áreas eficientes” y su aplicación al objetivo de optimizar las decisiones de localización, considerando un enfoque más integral incorporando factores de operación y muy en particular la dimensión del tiempo y costo de transporte. En resumen, en el presente trabajo el énfasis estuvo en la base de datos de información y en la herramienta de análisis, por lo que la información y las herramientas productos del estudio podrían ser utilizadas para variados fines.

Resumen

The southern fishery was in no better shape, though it had promised so much at the turn of the century, when it appeared to offer limitless regions for the exploitation of the more valuable sperm whale. In fact, after the major expansion of the 1790s, the Southern Fishery stagnated in comparison with the Northern Fishery, which expanded both its catches and value with the opening up of the Davis Straits grounds. Between 1804-1805 and 1814-1815 the tonnage of Northern whalers grew by sixty-six percent, whereas that of Southern whales actually declined by twenty percent as the trade was forced to make time because of the troubles created by war. Whalers going south-east were disturbed on the Cape of Good Hope fishery, at least four being captured by the Dutch and taken into Capetown in 1804 alone. Whalers going south-west faced the historic difficulties of navigating and victualling in Spanish wasters. The chief Pacific sperm fisheries were still off the coasts of Chile, Peru and California, and around the Galapagos Islands and most of the victualling places, so vital for the Pacific trade, were in Spanish territory: Concepcion and Valparaiso in Chile, Lima and Payta in Peru, and Guayaquil in Ecuador. Captains were once more reluctant to double the Horn, though equally dangerous was the long haul through the south Atlantic for ships that missed the St. Helena Convoy....

Resumen

Este capítulo considera la revisión conceptual en la literatura científica y las controversias producidas en el uso no diferenciado de “desarrollo sostenible” y “desarrollo sustentable”. Su objetivo es identificar en las memorias de las empresas generadoras de energía en Chile la concepción de lo sostenible o sustentable, las políticas de sostenibilidad o sustentabilidad y la apropiación de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) declarados en la Agenda 2030. Para tal propósito se seleccionó una muestra de las compañías de energía en Chile con mayor capacidad de generación eléctrica. Dentro de los resultados se constató, en primer lugar, que las memorias de las empresas chilenas generadoras de energía están alineadas con el concepto de desarrollo sostenible planteado por la ONU. En segundo lugar, se identificó que las memorias presentan una concepción disímil de sostenibilidad, políticas y adhesión a los ODS, lo que demuestra una apropiación gradual de la Agenda 2030.

Resumen

El presente texto tiene por objetivo analizar las tradiciones historiográficas y metodológicas locales que piensan usualmente la historia del psicoanálisis como parte exclusiva de la historia de los llamados “saberes psi”2 (psicología, psiquiatría y el mismo psicoanálisis) en su costado institucional ortodoxo, buscando proponer una nueva concepción que sitúe al devenir del pensamiento freudiano en Chile como parte de la historia cultural de mi país. Entendiendo que este trabajo será incluido en un obra que reúne los trabajos que felizmente llevamos a cabo en el I Congreso Internacional de Psicoanálisis en la Universidad de Cali: Subjetividad y Cultura realizado en octubre de 2015.
