Resumen
In the 1980s, computer-aided experimental research became standard in the majority of leading research laboratories. Unfortunately, this shift was not adequately reflected in the professional literature related to the philosophy and methodology of science. A new experimentalism did emerge, aimed at adequately describing experimental practice (to be discussed in the first part of this article); however, in its initial phase, it failed to consider the role of computers in experimental research (discussed in the second part). This oversight by the philosophers of science, the proponents of the ne

Stress-strain curves of some kinds of materials at high strain-rate conditions were able to be determined by a drop weight experiment system which has only to measure the force-time relation using a load-cell but not to measure directly the deformation or deformation-rate of specimen. To evaluate the strain-rate or the strain of the specimen it had been necessary to measure the motion, i.e. the velocity or the displacement of tup and anvil so far. In this new method the velocity and the displacement of the tup and the anvil which contacted the both end surfaces of specimen were calculated usin

This article documents the early experiments in both Australia and England to make a computer play music. The experiments in England with the Ferranti Mark 1 and the Pilot ACE (practically undocumented at the writing of this article) and those in Australia with CSIRAC (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research Automatic Computer) are the oldest known examples of using a computer to play music. Significantly, they occurred some six years before the experiments at Bell Labs in the USA. Furthermore, the computers played music in real time. These developments were important, and despite not d

Resumen
Timed mental rotation tests produce reliable effects that are ideal for investigation in laboratory classes. This article describes a PASCAL computer program capable of conducting a variety of user-designed mental rotation experiments. Design factors that users control include type of stimulus and degree of rotation. The program can be run on MS-DOS computers with VGA or EGA displays. An 80286 or faster microprocessor is recommended.

In recent years, the performance of different entanglement indicators obtained directly from tomograms has been assessed in continuous-variable and hybrid quantum systems. In this paper, we carry out this task in the case of spin systems. We compute the entanglement indicators from actual experimental data obtained from three liquid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments and compare them with standard entanglement measures calculated from the corresponding density matrices, both experimentally reconstructed and numerically computed. The gross features of entanglement dynamics and s
