Resumen
This paper analyzes the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on a small tourism dependent open economy. The lockdown affected both the demand side and the supply side of the economy, as production of goods and services dramatically dropped due to firms’ shutdowns, broken supply chains, or bankruptcies, and aggregate demand diminished due to lower consumer confidence and investment cutbacks, accompanied by a dramatic fall in international tourism demand, in particular due to travel restrictions. We look on these supply and demand changes through the lens of a macroeconomic model of a small open economy, comprising an industrial and a tourism sector. For this purpose, we modify Schubert’s (2013) model by introducing a multiple shock which reflects (i) reduced sectoral productivities due to, e.g., broken supply chains, (ii) a drop in employment due to firms’ lockdowns, and (iii) a sharp decline in international tourism demand. We find that the multiple shock leads to an immediate drop in GDP and a boost of the short-run unemployment rate, followed by a gradual transition back to steady state. The adverse effects on the tourism sector are the more severe the slower international tourism demand reverts to pre-crisis levels, but they do not strongly spill over to the industrial sector. Furthermore, even if international tourism demand recovers quickly, the effects on the industrial sector barely change. The length of the industrial sector’s recovery basically depends on the speed of restoring its sectoral productivity rather than on international tourism demand. The reason for this result can be found in the absorbing effect of the relative price of tourism services in terms of the industrial good.

For the last few decades, the business practices have primarily been focusing on the green and sustainable practices that mainly focus on the preservation of the environment and correspond to corporate social responsibility. But the sudden outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has left unprecedented effects on the business world. Against this backdrop, the current study entails investigation of the antecedents and consequences of green supply chain management in the post-COVID-19 era. The term black swan stands true for the event. The term could be believed to be accurate as all aspects of the supply chain have been observed to be influenced by the swan (customers with panic/regulated buying, suppliers with hoarding, inventories witnessing bullwhip effects). The current study, therefore, offers a novel explanation by linking various actors of green supply chain management and how the interplay of those actors can influence the supply chain and overall firm performance post COVID-19.

Much has been said in the popular press about the world-wide COrnaVIrus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Some of this information is accurate, some is exaggerated. In some cases vital information has not been presented, while other information is simply wrong. As business activity resumes in the U.S. and other countries, occupational health and safety personnel will have to make some extremely difficult decisions. Those decisions will have to be based on a thorough understanding of the scientific facts and not fear, partial information or distortions. So, what are the facts? What is a coronavirus? How does it work? How did it get that name? Where did it come from? How does it spread? Is there any way to stop it? Do masks work? What about social distancing, hand sanitizers and hand washing? What do the coronavirus statistics mean? Can a vaccine be made? Does post-infection therapy work, and is it safe? Does vitamin C and zinc do anything, or is it just a hoax? These are some of the questions that will be addressed in this article.

Resumen
Introduction: The global pandemic for the new coronavirus has had repercussions in all areas of human activities. Health services are essential for serving the population. However, workers in this sector also deserve attention, the provision of meals being one of those precautions.Aims: This study aims to publicize the actions related to the development of a contingency plan and the provision of meals to workers at a public university hospital in southern Brazil during the coronavirus pandemic. Methods: Study design: descriptive observational. This case study evaluates for the period from March to June 2020 on the evolution of contingency plans in order to guarantee the provision of adequate food and preserve the health of workers in the cafeteria space. Results: The hospital cafeteria served, on average, more than 2,500 lunches before the COVID-19 pandemic began in Brazil. Actions developed by the hospital administration allowed remote work by workers. However, an average of 1,500 lunches is still served daily. In this study, the actions are presented in order to guarantee an adequate environment that does not transmit outbreaks to workers in the hospital environment. Among some actions are issues of menu pattern, guidance, and mandatory handwashing by all users, visual signage on-site, and the internal website, among others. Conclusions: The actions have been effective since there are no records of a COVID-19 outbreak among hospital workers.

The world is going through one of the worst pandemics ever seen. After concurrent lockdowns, as the government is easing out, more people are on the verge of risking their lives. This leads to a need for a system that not only provides a user with relevant updates regarding this disease but is essentially a useful tool that can be used to provide a safest path between a source and a destination. Most of the people now are equipped with smart devices. Since the spread is nowhere near its termination and the world is having a lot of breakdowns be it in the form of economic disruption or sociological imbalance due to this, though the government is already working hard on detecting and declaring hotspot zones, there is no real-time evaluation of potentially crowded zones that can be a source of disease synthesis too. There is a need for a system that can notify its users regarding any kind of potentially harmful zones, and since getting on the road is more than a necessity now, a safe route provisioning system is also a dire need of the situation in order to stop the spread.

COVID-19 and its ensuing pandemic ignited an atomic bomb on educational systems across the world invoking an emergent and abrupt transition to remote learning. The aftershocks were unpredictable but left a crippled educational system where students were forced into their bedrooms, sometimes deported to their homelands in different time-zones and isolated from their friends and peers. Learning quickly transitioned from social face-to-face interactions to an estranged and detached face-to-computer dependence. Although some introverted students welcomed this transition, many were dissatisfied, and their performance reflected this sentiment. In this study, we compare students’ performance in an undergraduate mathematics class in a large research-intensive university in the Western United States of America over a 2-year time period from 2019 to 2020. This started as a traditional lecture-style course for 3 quarters, transitioned to a hybrid lecture style with integrated adaptive team-based quizzes for 2 quarters, and abruptly changed with the COVID-19 pandemic to online lectures with team-based quizzes for 1 quarter. We demonstrate in our retrospective data analysis that the performance gains from the traditional lecture-style transition to active learning were subsequently lost in the movement to remote learning. We discuss the many obstacles that may have accounted for this loss of performance and suggest future directions for improving remote active learning methodologies.

Resumen
The onslaught of COVID-19 has impacted all the spheres of life and caused the entire world to halt. The present study has attempted to investigate whether fear aroused by COVID-19 has raised e-governance adoption in the developing countries, specifically focusing on the rural regions. The study has utilized the learning from the protection motivation theory. The results show that COVID-19 has emerged as an unexpected thrust for e-governance adoption. The severity, vulnerability, response-efficacy, and self-efficacy components of protection motivation are found to have positive relationship with the attitude to adopt e-governance. The intrinsic and extrinsic rewards associated with not following the lockdown are found to have a negative relationship with the attitude to adopt e-governance. The response cost component of protection motivation is found to have an insignificant relationship with the attitude to adopt e-governance. The attitude is found to have positive relationship with the intention to adopt e-governance services.
