Texto completoStudies on the reception of Laclos’ novel “Dangerous Liaisons” are numerous but they mostly focus on a small number of works and very few have a look at all the writings created under the influence of Laclos and his novel. Limited to romantic and dramatic imitations as well as to film and theatrical adaptations, this thesis analyses around forty novels, twenty plays and nine films all more or less inspired by Laclos’ novel. The first aim of this study is not to demonstrate its masterpiece status but to analyze its value and its influence through those adaptations, to examine their connections and to discern the peculiar way they comprehend it. The example of Laclos demonstrates that an author depends on the literary tradition. He was able to perfectly combine the contributions of his days and the legacy of the previous times to which his novel echoes through references and explicit or implicit allusions. In his turn, Laclos plays the role of referent in the works that came after him. His novel is probably one of the very few literary works the rich and long-time reception of which allows comprehending the evolution according to the time and the genre. Authors draw their inspiration from his novel and their works constitute an area of interpretation and new creation while Laclos owes them the recognition of his work. The second volume includes, among other things, the list of the performances of the Liaisons Dangereuses and of Quartett by Heiner Müller as well as excerpts of journalistic critics, the transcription of Charles Brabant’s film and the translation of the South Korean film Untold scandal

Texto completoThe aim of this Bachelor’s thesis is to do an analysis of the novel of Choderlos de Laclos Dangerous liaisons and to answer to four important questions: How are men and women depicted in the novel of Choderlos de Laclos and what is the nature of the relations between the characters of both sexes. Is it a condemnation or an illustration and defense of the libertinage ? Which were the moral effects of this novel upon the society of the 18th century ? What was the writer’s attitude towards women ? To answer these four important questions, we have decided to do an analysis of the novel, but also to put the focus on the sociology of literature, more exactly on the horizon of expectation and the reception of the work. We have used the correspondence between M. Choderlos de Laclos and Mrs Riccoboni in order to establish the author’s attitude towards women. In conclusion, we will demonstrate that the writer was advanced for his time and was not a misogynist as he tried to improve the education of women.

Texto completoThe thesis includes a theoretical introduction and three chapters of analysis of Laclos' novel. The introductory chapter presents problems of the literary text, insisting on the status of the author and especially on the implications of the act of reading. The analysis of the literary theories on the author, the reader, the interpretation of a text of fiction unnderlines the thories oh U. Eco and R. Barthes, who consider literary works as phenomena open to all readings and interpretations. The second chapter is devoted to the narratological analysis : narrative techniques, plural speech, competence of the fictional narrator, significance of the paratext, attitudes of the reader faced with the epistolary text. Laclos does not innovate when he chooses the epistolary form. Compared to his predecessors, he endows the letter with new functions : the letter is simultaneaously a means of action and an action, a very effective instrument of analysis and a weapon in conflictual relations. The third chapter comments on Laclos' work as a libertine novel, the inscription of the novel in the tradition libertine in the heritage of Crébillon proves that Valmont and Merteuil are rgarded as flamboyant libertines. The fourth chapter analyzes the novel of Laclos in terms of moral philosophy. The principal characters of the novel are the reflectione of two philosophical systems which consider the human nature differently. Valmont and Merteuil represent the materialist philosophy of the Encyclopedists, and in Diderot's terms, the actor, the "great man" ; Tourvel - the ideal of Rousseau's "happiness" and "natural woman". The course of the intrigue proves the adhesion of the author to Rousseau's philosophy
