ObjectivesThis retrospective, cross-sectional study aimed to investigate symptoms of eating disorders (EDs) and low energy availability (LEA) among recreational female runners.MethodsFemales (18–39 years) (n=89) participating in running group sessions organised by running clubs and companies were recruited via social media and completed an anonymous online survey compromising the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) and Low Energy Availability in Females Questionnaire (LEAF-Q). An EDE-Q global score ≥2.3 and a LEAF-Q total score ≥8 (in combination with an injury score≥2 and/or menstruation dysfunction score≥4) were used to categorise subjects as having symptoms of EDs and LEA, respectively.ResultsAmong the subjects fulfilling the age criteria (n=85), 18% (n=15) had symptoms of EDs and 19% (n=16) had symptoms of LEA. Of those with symptoms of EDs, 13% (n=2) had concomitant symptoms of LEA. The higher the EDE-Q dietary restraint score, the higher the gastrointestinal problem score (r=0.23, p=0.04), otherwise no other associations were found between EDE-Q global or subscale scores and LEAF-Q scores.ConclusionOur results indicate that symptoms of EDs and LEA are frequent among adult females at all athletic levels, including the recreational level. Hence, to prevent the negative health consequences of EDs and LEA, preventative initiatives are also needed in recreational running communities.

This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the German version of the 21-item Exercise Dependence Scale (EDS-G), which was administered in a large representative German sample (N = 1,611). In order to examine convergent validity, we also asked participants to answer the Eating Disorder Examination-Questionnaire (EDE-Q). To investigate the discriminant validity, clients of fitness centers (N = 129), sport students (N = 85), and medical students (N = 129) filled out the EDS-G. In this German population-based sample, the seven-factor structure suggested by the original authors as well as a higher-order model (7 + 1 factor model) were supported. The total EDS-G scale showed an excellent internal reliability and was positively related to the EDE-Q total and subscale scores. The EDS-G scores differentiated between samples with varying degrees of exercise. In summary, the results indicate that the EDS-G is a psychometrically sound and potentially valid brief measure for the assessment of exercise dependence symptoms.

Resveratrol butyrate ester (RBE) complexes have demonstrated higher antioxidant capacity and anti-fat accumulation activity in previous studies. In this study, silica gel, high-performance liquid chromatography, and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance were used for separation and identification of RBE complex components. With the exception of resveratrol, five different structures of ester derivatives were separated from silica gel: 3,4′-di-O-butanoylresveratrol (ED2, 18.8%), 3-O-butanoylresveratrol (ED4, 35.7%), 4′-O-butanoylresveratrol (ED5, 4.4%), 3,5,4′-tri-O-butanoylresveratrol (ED6, 1.5%), and 3,5-di-O-butanoylresveratrol (ED7, 0.7%). Among the ester derivatives obtained, ED2 and ED4 were the main ester derivatives in the RBE complex. Thus, the cellular antioxidant activities of the RBE mixture, ED2, and ED4 were evaluated. Results showed that the antioxidant capacity of ED2 and ED4 was higher than that of the RBE mixture, demonstrating that the number and position of butyrate esterification sites are related to cell survival rate and antioxidant capacity. This study is the first to report the successful isolation, structural identification, and cellular biological antioxidant activity of RBE complex derivatives, which are key characteristics for the potential practical application of RBE complexes.

The prevalence of eating disorders (EDs) is growing, and early screening is important to prevent related health complications. The Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) has been widely used as a diagnostic tool to identify cases of EDs; however, a validated Arabic version of the tool is needed to help in the screening process of EDs. The aim of this study was to validate the Arabic version of EDE-Q. A cross-sectional study included a sample of 549 adults, who were recruited mainly from the four major provinces in Saudi Arabia. A forward–backward translation method was conducted, and then the tool was validated using the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The dataset was split for further convergent analysis using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and CFA. The results of CFA from the main dataset did not support the four-factor original EDE-Q. The results of EFA from the first data-split suggested a three-factor EDE-Q-14 Arabic version. This was supported by the results of CFA of the second data-split. A total of five items were allocated in each shape and weight concern, and restraint component, with correlations ranging from 0.969 and 0.462 and from 0.847 to 0.437, respectively. A total of four items were allocated in eating concern, with correlations ranging from 0.748 to 0.556. The internal consistency of the global and the three subscales were high, with Cronbach’s α ranging from 0.762 to 0.900. Findings of the current study suggest that the Arabic version of the EDE-Q-14 is a valid and reliable tool to screen for EDs among adults in Saudi Arabia.

Inadequate design of emergency departments (EDs) is a major cause of crowding, increased length of stay, and higher mortality. The main reason behind this inadequacy is the lack of stakeholders’ involvement in the design process. This work reports and analyzes the results of a large survey of the requirements of ED stakeholders. It then compares these requirements with existing designs on the one hand and international standards on the other. Further, we propose a new hybrid design which combines the requirements of both the stakeholders and international standards using quality function deployment (QFD), also known as the House of Quality, method. The proposed method was used to assess two existing EDs located in two countries. The analysis of the survey responses showed certain discrepancies between stakeholder requirements and the existing designs such as the absence of an initial admission unit and insufficient space of the treatment unit. The results showed a strong correlation between the QFD-based design and stakeholder requirements (r = 0.92 for ED1 and r = 0.93 for ED2) which is attributed to the incorporation of stakeholders’ opinions into the QFD method. The new design was also positively correlated to the international standards (r = 0.94 for ED1 and r = 0.91 for ED2). Our findings suggest that international design standards should be based on more structured methods for incorporating stakeholders’ views and that a certain degree of difference should be allowed depending on the region in which the hospital is located to reflect both cultural and environmental differences.

This study aimed at assessing the prevalence of eating disorders (EDs) and ED symptomatology in children with obesity, and at investigating whether EDs occur more often among individuals with a comorbid attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Seventy-six children (37 girls, 39 boys, age 5–16 years) were recruited at an outpatient obesity clinic. The adolescents completed ED instruments including The Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) and The Eating Disorder Inventory for children (EDI-C). The parents of all participants were interviewed regarding the child’s psychiatric morbidity. Diagnoses of ADHD and ASD were collected from medical records. Anthropometric data were compiled. Eight participants (11%) fulfilled the criteria for a probable ED and 16 participants (21%) had ADHD and/or ASD. Two adolescent girls had a probable ED and coexistent ADHD and ASD. No other overlaps between EDs and ADHD/ASD were observed. Loss of control (LOC) eating was present in 26 out of 40 (65%) adolescents, seven of whom had ADHD, ASD or both. LOC eating was not overrepresented among teenagers with ADHD and/or ASD. Weight and shape concerns were on a par with age-matched adolescents with EDs. EDs and ED behavior are more common among children/adolescents with obesity than in the general population. There is no substantial overlap between EDs and ADHD/ASD in adolescents with obesity.

AbstractObjectivesThe Quebec Emergency Department Management Guide (QEDMG) is a unique document with 78 recommendations designed to improve the organization of emergency departments (EDs) in the province of Quebec. However, no study has examined how this guide is perceived or used by rural health care management.MethodsWe invited all directors of professional services (DPS), directors of nursing services (DNS), head nurses (HN), and emergency department directors (EDD) working in Quebec’s rural hospitals to complete an online survey (144 questions). Simple frequency analyses (percentage [%] and 95% confidence interval) were conducted to establish general familiarity and use of the QEDMG, as well as perceived usefulness and implementation of its recommendations.ResultsSeventy-three percent (19/26) of Quebec’s rural EDs participated in the study. A total of 82% (62/76) of the targeted stakeholders participated. Sixty-one percent of respondents reported being “moderately or a lot” familiar with the QEDMG, whereas 77% reported “almost never or sometimes” refer to this guide. Physician management (DPS, EDD) were more likely than nursing management (DNS and especially HN) to report “not at all” or “little” familiarity on use of the guide. Finally, 98% of the QEDMG recommendations were considered useful.ConclusionsAlthough the QEDMG is considered a useful guide for rural EDs, it is not optimally known or used in rural EDs, especially by physician management. Stakeholders should consider these findings before implementing the revised versions of the QEDMG.

We have investigated the affect of accelerating voltage (E0), pressure (P), GSED bias (VGSED), field line geometry and specimen conductivity on the landing energy of the primary beam in an XL30 ESEM. The landing energy of the primary beam can be measured by using the Duane-Hunt cut-off energy, EDH, in EDS X-ray spectra. We present experimental evidence that the landing energy of the primary beam can be significantly altered when analyzing insulators in an ESEM. Shifts in EDH result from electric fields produced by the presence of positive ions in the ESEM chamber and electrons trapped in the bulk. No shift in EDH was observed with conductive specimens at all E0 and P. Changes in the landing energy of the primary beam can significantly effect the relative intensity of characteristic peaks in EDS spectra measured in the ESEM (Figure 1).The magnitude and sign of the shift in EDH is determined by E0 and P for a specific insulator specimen and stage geometry.

Eating disorders (EDs), including anorexia nervosa (AN), are severe psychological disorders that affect individuals’ eating behaviours and body perception. Previous research has shown that people with EDs often report poorer sleep. Some literature has suggested that it is mood dysregulation that mediates the link between EDs and sleep. However, the majority of previous studies only focused on females, while male ED patients have been overlooked. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the relationships between EDs, mood, and sleep among male ED patients. Using a mixture of actigraphy recordings and self-reported questionnaires, the current study analysed a total 33 adult male participants diagnosed with AN. The participants first wore an actigraphy device for seven continuous days, following which their ED severity and mood were assessed by the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) and Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS), respectively. The descriptive actigraphy results suggested that, similar to females, males with AN also showed disturbed sleep, including insomnia, sleep fragmentation, low sleep efficiency, and increased napping sessions. However, when ED severity was correlated against actigraphy data and mood, no significant relationships were found between them. Thus, it was suggested that future studies may investigate discrete ED symptoms instead of global ED severity interacting with sleep and mood. Overall, this study represents an initial step in the investigation of EDs and sleep and mood dysregulation among an under-represented sample.

Resumen

Nous considérons deux problèmes. Le premier est la construction des tests d'ajustement (goodness-of-fit) pour les modèles de processus de diffusion ergodique. Nous considérons d'abord le cas où le processus sous l'hypothèse nulle appartient à une famille paramétrique. Nous étudions les tests de type Cramer-von Mises et Kolmogorov- Smirnov. Le paramètre inconnu est estimé par l'estimateur de maximum de vraisemblance ou l'estimateur de distance minimale. Nous construisons alors les tests basés sur l'estimateur du temps local de la densité invariante, et sur la fonction de répartition empirique. Nous montrons alors que les statistiques de ces deux types de test convergent tous vers des limites qui ne dépendent pas du paramètre inconnu. Par conséquent, ces tests sont appelés asymptotically parameter free. Ensuite, nous considérons l'hypothèse simple. Nous étudions donc le test du khi-deux. Nous montrons que la limite de la statistique ne dépend pas de la dérive, ainsi on dit que le test est asymptotically distribution free. Par ailleurs, nous étudions également la puissance du test du khi-deux. En outre, ces tests sont consistants. Nous traitons ensuite le deuxième problème : l'approximation des équations différentielles stochastiques rétrogrades. Supposons que l'on observe un processus de diffusion satisfaisant à une équation différentielle stochastique, où la dérive dépend du paramètre inconnu. Nous estimons premièrement le paramètre inconnu et après nous construisons un couple de processus tel que la valeur finale de l'un est une fonction de la valeur finale du processus de diffusion donné. Par la suite, nous montrons que, lorsque le coefficient de diffusion est petit, le couple de processus se rapproche de la solution d'une équations différentielles stochastiques rétrograde. A la fin, nous prouvons que cette approximation est asymptotiquement efficace.

Resumen

This master thesis deals with analysis of battery mass using x-ray spectral microanalysis. For the measurement two scanning electron microscopes equipped with energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopes were used. Appropriate examples were prepaired by standard method. Then elemental analysis was performed with changing conditions of measurement. Two programs were used for spectrums evaluation and in the end the size of errors was observed for every conditions.

A realização deste trabalho tem como objetivo a produção e caracterização de compósitos de metal em matriz cerâmica (CERMETOS). Assim sendo, e tendo como base pós cerâmicos e compósitos produzidos pela INNOVNANO, foram também produzidos pós por mecanossíntese. Os pós à base de zircónia estabilizada com ítria (YSZ), produzidos por estes dois métodos, foram caracterizados cristalográfica, química, morfológica, reológica, térmica e magneticamente. Os pós foram compactados e sinterizados em vácuo, seguindo-se a sua caracterização, principalmente estrutural, microestrutural, mecânica e magnética. Todos os resultados foram analisados com olhar crítico e tentando relacionar as propriedades físicas e químicas dos pós e compactos verdes com as propriedades finais dos sinterizados. A comparação entre cerâmicos e compósitos (quer pós, quer sinterizados) foi sempre o principal objetivo deste trabalho. Os resultados incluem a avaliação da importância das várias etapas de preparação dos pós, essencialmente no processo produtivo da INNOVNANO, a avaliação da estabilização da fase tetragonal da zircónia, a resposta magnética e a interpretação do decréscimo nas propriedades mecânicas verificado nos compósitos.
This work main goal is to develop metal composites on a ceramic matrix, designated as CERMETs. Hence, and having as starting materials the ceramic and composite powders produced by INNOVNANO, mechanosynthesis powders were also prepared. The yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) based powders (produced by those two methods) were crystallographic, chemically, morphologically, rheological, thermal and magnetically characterized. Pressed compacts from the previous powders were prepared and sintered in vacuum conditions, followed by their characterization namely in terms of structure, microstructure, mechanical and magnetic behavior. The results were analyzed with a critical mind, trying to co-relate the physical and chemical properties of the powders and green compacts with the final sintered properties. The comparison between ceramic and composites (either powders, either sintered compacts) was always the main goal during the development of this work. The results include the evaluation of the meaning and importance of the several powders preparation steps that are conducted in INNOVNANO’s producing method, the importance of the tetragonal zirconia phase stabilization, the magnetic response and the interpretation of the decrease in mechanical resistance verified in CERMETs.

Resumen

Le cadre mathématique de notre travail est l’estimation statistique Bayésienne de mélanges complexes de lois à partir de données temporelles qui sont supposées suivre localement une équation différentielle stochastique (EDS) en milieu aléatoire. L’EDS considérée a été introduite par Schmitt et Marsan pour modéliser la dissipation d’énergie due à l’évolution de la vitesse du vent en milieu turbulent. Cette EDS appelée ici EDS de cascades, dépend de deux paramètres supposés constants, représentant l’un un facteur d’échelle de la cascade et l’autre un coefficient d’intermittence. Cependant des estimations montrent que ces paramètres changent avec l’environnement. Nous proposons dans cette thèse, une extension aux milieux aléatoires du modèle de l’EDS de cascades, en supposant que ses deux paramètres sont régis par une chaîne de Markov à temps continu dont les états représentent les divers régimes atmosphériques. L’originalité de notre travail consiste à placer, comme loi a priori, un Processus de Dirichlet sur l’espace des trajectoires de la chaîne et à proposer une méthode d’estimation spécifique à cette EDF et à ce nouveau modèle, méthode testée aussi bien sur des données simulées que sur des données réelles. Nous mettons au point un algorithme de type Gibbs sampling adapté aux données temporelles qui classifie sur une même trajectoire les différents états de la chaîne en utilisant notamment un schéma stick-breaking approximant le processus de Dirichlet. Des calculs délicats de lois a posteriori ainsi qu’une majoration de l’erreur d’approximation sont présentés
Cascade Stochastic Differential Equation (SDE), a continuous time model for energy dissipation in turbulence, is a generalization of the Yaglom discrete cascade model. We extend this SDE to a model in random environment by assuming that its two parameters are switched by a continuous time Markov chain whose states represent the states of the environment. Moreover, a Dirichlet process is placed as a prior on the space of sample paths of this chain. We propose a Bayesian estimation method of this model which is tested both on simulated data and on real data

Face à importância crescente de promover uma educação em ciências desde os primeiros anos de escolaridade, potenciadora de sinergias entre diferentes perspetivas, este estudo teve como finalidade a conceção, produção, implementação e avaliação de atividades de ciências com orientação Ciência-Tecnologia-Sociedade/Pensamento Crítico (CTS/PC), num quadro de uma Educação para o Desenvolvimento Sustentável (EDS). Decorrente da finalidade, formularam-se as questões de investigação: Qual o contributo das atividades de ciências desenvolvidas com orientação CTS/PC, num quadro EDS, para promover aprendizagens dos alunos ao nível da mobilização/construção de conhecimentos científicos e do desenvolvimento de capacidades de PC? Quais as representações dos alunos sobre o contributo das atividades realizadas para a mobilização/construção de conhecimentos científicos e para a mobilização/desenvolvimento de capacidades de PC? Qual a opinião dos alunos sobre as atividades que realizaram? Adotando uma metodologia orientada para a prática, assente num plano de investigação-ação, o estudo foi realizado com uma turma do 1.º ano do Ensino Básico, sendo que, ao longo de quinze sessões, os alunos realizaram as atividades produzidas com orientação CTS/PC, num quadro EDS. Foram recolhidos dados através de vários instrumentos, no âmbito de diferentes técnicas de recolha de dados, incluindo um instrumento de análise das produções dos alunos. Na análise de dados, a técnica privilegiada foi a análise de conteúdo. Os resultados obtidos a partir da análise dos dados recolhidos permitiram concluir que as atividades de ciências desenvolvidas no âmbito do estudo contribuíram para promover aprendizagens ao nível da mobilização/construção de conhecimentos científicos e da mobilização/desenvolvimento de capacidades de PC dos alunos. Na perspetiva dos alunos, as atividades que realizaram foram um contributo relevante para mobilizarem/construírem conhecimentos científicos e para mobilizarem/desenvolverem capacidades de PC. Os alunos manifestaram que gostaram e se envolveram com entusiasmo na sua realização, considerando-as interessantes e motivadoras.
The current study was designed taking into account the importance of promoting science education from the first years of schooling, building convergences between different perspectives – Science-Technology-Society (STS) and Critical Thinking (CT), according to the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).The study aimed to develop (conceive, produce, implement and evaluate) sciences activities with STS/CT orientation, within an EDS framework. According to the study aim, the research questions formulated were: What is the contribution of the science activities developed with STS/CT orientation, within an ESD framework, to promote students’ scientific knowledge mobilization/construction and CT abilities mobilization/development? What are the students’ representations on the contribution of the activities for the mobilization/construction of scientific knowledge and to the mobilization/development of CT abilities? What is the students’ opinion on the activities that did they carry out? This action-research was carried out with a group of the 1.st year of the elementary school, along fifteen sessions, during which students performed the science activities produced with STS/CT orientation, within an ESD framework. The data were collected through several instruments in the context of different techniques of collecting data, including the development of an instrument of analysis of students´ productions. In the data analysis, the privileged technique was the content analysis. The results obtained from the analysis of the collected data allowed to conclude that the science activities developed in the context of the study contributed to promote students’ scientific knowledge mobilization/construction and student’s CT abilities mobilization/development. From students’ point of view, the science activities were a relevant contribution to promote theirs scientific knowledge mobilization/construction and CT abilities mobilization/development. Students expressed that they like the activities which were performed enthusiastically, considering them interesting and motivating.

Resumen

Epitaxially-grown self-assembled indium nanostructures, or islands, show promise as nanoantennas. The elemental composition and internal structure of indium islands grown on gallium arsenide are explored using Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS). Several sizes of islands are examined, with larger islands exhibiting high (>94%) average indium purity and smaller islands containing inhomogeneous gallium and arsenic contamination. These results enable more accurate predictions of indium nanoantenna behavior as a function of growth parameters. (C) 2017 Author(s).

Nous étudions le lien entre EDS rétrogrades et certains problèmes d'optimisation stochas- tique ainsi que leurs applications en ﬁnance. Dans la première partie, nous nous intéressons à la représentation par EDSR de problème d'optimisation stochastique séquentielle : le contrôle impul- sionnel et le switching optimal. Nous introduisons la notion d'EDSR contrainte à sauts et montrons qu'elle donne une représentation des solutions de problème de contrôle impulsionnel markovien. Nous lions ensuite cette classe d'EDSR aux EDSRs à réﬂexions obliques et aux processus valeurs de problèmes de switching optimal. Dans la seconde partie nous étudions la discrétisation des EDSRs intervenant plus haut. Nous introduisons une discrétisation des EDSRs contraintes à sauts utilisant l'approximation par EDSRs pénalisées pour laquelle nous obtenons la convergence. Nous étudions ensuite la discrétisation des EDSRs à réﬂexions obliques. Nous obtenons pour le schéma proposé une vitesse de convergence vers la solution continument réﬂéchie. Enﬁn dans la troisième partie, nous étudions un problème de liquidation optimale de portefeuille avec risque et coût d'exécution. Nous considérons un marché ﬁnancier sur lequel un agent doit liquider une position en un actif risqué. L'intervention de cet agent inﬂue sur le prix de marché de cet actif et conduit à un coût d'exécution modélisant le risque de liquidité. Nous caractérisons la fonction valeur de notre problème comme solution minimale d'une inéquation quasi-variationnelle au sens de la viscosité contrainte.

Resumen

The purpose of this paper was to identify the elements and the alloys that five objects found in Birka consist of and to examine whether there are any significant differences between the presumably imported and domestic objects. The material was analyzed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) which was equipped with an energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS) in order to identify the elements that are present and the alloys that the objects are made of. Then the SEM results were compared with the results of previous analyzes that have been performed on finds from Birka in order to investigate how the objects differ in elemental composition and to find out if there are any significant differences between them. The results showed that the objects’ content of the elements analyzed varies as the copper alloys the objects are made of. Only a few objects are made of the same type of copper alloy. A sword chape included in the material and a bridle mount that was analyzed in 2006 are both made of lead bronze. Two oriental mounts included in the material and a sword chape which was analyzed in 2006 are all made of lead bronze in which zinc has been added. There are no significant differences in composition between the presumably imported and domestic objects, but overall lead seems to be a metal that was used more in the domestic production.

Resumen

AbstractEducation digital storytelling (EDS) refers to digital storytelling in education. EDS is often presented as a technology-enhanced learning approach with powerful educational benefits. The use of EDS as a tool to support students to consider and pursue a meaningful life based on their interests, talents, and aspirations is spreading. Due to its nature, EDS could be an optimal tool to create and share digital stories to stimulate career plans. This paper deals with the educational uses of digital storytelling and presents an overview of how EDS can be used to support career guidance. It concludes with a brief description of the NEFELE Erasmus+ project that will implement tangible user interfaces (TUIs) in the classrooms to promote the EDS as a tool for career intervention.

Resumen

The V26 containment vessel was procured by the Project Manager, Non-Stockpile Chemical Materiel (PMNSCM) for use on the Phase-2 Explosive Destruction Systems. It was fabricated under Code Case 2564 of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, which provides rules for the design of impulsively loaded vessels [1]. The explosive rating for the vessel, based on the Code Case, is nine (9) pounds TNT-equivalent for up to 637 detonations. This report documents the results of tests that were performed on the vessel at Sandia National Laboratories to qualify the vessel for explosive use [2]. Three of these explosive tests consisted of: (1) 9lbs bare charge of Composition C-4 (equivalent to 11.25lbs TNT); (2) a 7.2lbs bare charge of Composition C-4 (equivalent to 9lbs TNT); (3) a bare charge of 9lbs cast TNT. The results of these tests are compared in order to provide an understanding of how varying charge size affects vessel response when the ratio of free volume to charge volume is small, and in making direct comparisons between TNT and Composition C-4 for TNT equivalency calculations. In a previous paper [3], the 7.2lbs bare charge of Composition C-4, (2) above, was compared to 7.2lbs of Composition C-4 distributed into 6 charges.
