Various aspects of chemical effects on X-ray spectra such as energy shift, emission probability change, satellite formation and peak profile change are reviewed in recent studies. Applicability of the chemical effect to analysis of practical samples is also discussed. Though the emphasis is laid on PIXE, other X-ray production techniques are also taken into consideration because new trends of X-ray production and measurement are growing.

Abstract The traditional method of cloning formation is used to study the radiation effect of nuclear physics rays on hepatoma cells, and the results obtained are not reliable. Therefore, a new method of studying the radiation effect of nuclear physics rays on hepatoma cells is proposed. PCC method is used to study the radiation effect of γ-rays on hepatoma cells. Radiation effects of X-rays on hepatoma cells were studied by radionuclide formation assay, neutral comet electrophoresis and γH2AX focal detection. In this research, optoelectronic devices consisted of an infrared light emitting diode and a phototransistor with no special handling or third party-packaging were irradiated to ionizing radiation utilizing x-rays. It was found that the devices under test (DUTs) undergo performance degradation in their functional parameters during exposure to x-rays. These damaging effects are depending on their current drives and also the Total Ionizing Dose (TID) absorbed. The TID effects by x-rays are cumulative and gradually take place throughout the lifecycle of the devices exposed to radiation.

The rotated-inclined double-crystal monochromator (RIDCM) has been adopted to reduce the heat load from third-generation undulator radiation. The position of the exit X-rays from RIDCM has been calculated as a function of X-ray energy on the basis of diffraction theory including refraction effects. The results show that the positions of the exit X-rays vary over a wide range due to asymmetric reflection. Methods of fixing the exit position in RIDCM are also discussed.

The effects of microsize and nanosize particles in composite structures as well as the incident radiation energy on X-ray attenuation is the focus of this study. To examine these effects, composite samples with different particle sizes of Al2O3 and with different thicknesses were prepared. Characteristic X-rays are applied as monochromatic X-rays and measurements were performed using an X-ray tube with a secondary excitation source instead of radioisotopes. In order to improve the efficiency and minimize the background effects a special detection system was designed and prepared. The linear at

Abstract The purpose of the current study was to investigate the biological effects of protons and photons in combination with cisplatin in cultured cells and elucidate the mechanisms responsible for their combined effects. To evaluate the sensitizing effects of cisplatin against X-rays and proton beams in HSG, EMT6 and V79 cells, the combination index, a simple measure for quantifying synergism, was estimated from cell survival curves using software capable of performing the Monte Carlo calculation. Cell death and apoptosis were assessed using live cell fluorescence imaging. HeLa and HSG cell

The effects of pulse-repetitive X-ray radiation and microwaves on the suspension of human erythrocyte was investigated in present work taking in to account changing their electrical capacitance. It was shown that the single 5-min exposure of suspension of erythrocyte to pulse periodic x-rays and microwaves causes the changes of the capacitance. The of the effect depends on the radiation type, the pulse repetition frequency, the radiation absorbed dose (in case of x-rays) and power flow density (in the case of microwaves).

With increased acuity comes an increase in diagnostic testing, including radiologic imaging. Although x-rays are necessary, they do not come without risk, including the future development of cancers. Methods: The number of x-rays completed in the NICU over a one-year period, was evaluated prior to the radiati

X-rays are an effective method to diagnose alterations in hard tissues, which is why they are used in dental treatments; in Endodontics they are very useful. Pregnant women receive comprehensive dental care that includes pulpo-radicular treatments. The objective was: to describe the theoretical basis for the use of radiographs in pregnant women in need of endodontic treatment. A bibliographic review was carried out taking into account the most up-to-date scientific literature on the subject. 19 bibliographies were used. While the difference between using heavy and light water as solvents for small-angle neutron scattering experiments is well known, the lesser difference for the case of small-angle X-ray scattering with these same isotopes of water has, as yet, not been reported. This difference for the case of X-rays is discussed and quantified for several familiar materials: polystyrene latexes, proteins and lipids.

Abstract Background. Carbon ion therapy may be better against cancer than the effects of a photon beam. To investigate a biological advantage of carbon ion beam over X-rays, the radioresistant cell line HeLa cells were used. Radiationinduced changes in the biological processes were investigated post-irradiation at 1 h by a clinically relevant radiation dose (2 Gy X-ray and 2 Gy carbon beam). The differential expression proteins were collected for analysing biological effects. Materials and methods. The radioresistant cell line Hela cells were used. Although conventional radiotherapy promotes the migration/invasion of cancer stem cells (CSCs) under normoxia, carbon ion (C-ion) irradiation actually decreases these processes. Unraveling the mechanisms of this discrepancy, particularly under the hypoxic conditions that pertain in niches where CSCs are preferentially localized, would provide a better understanding of the origins of metastases. Invasion/migration, proteins involved in epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and expression of MMP-2 and HIF-1α were quantified in the CSC subpopulations of two head-and-neck squamous cell carci

X-ray is a non-thermal technology that has shown good efficacy in reducing pathogenic and spoilage bacteria, viruses and parasites. X-ray hygiene technology resulted in a high microbial loss in numerous food products, such as dairy products, ready-to-eat shrimp, oysters, fresh products, strawberries, shredded iceberg lettuce, and spinach leaves. Some X-ray studies on food safety have shown that X-ray is an effective technology and is also an appropriate alternative to the electron beam and gamma rays, and can be used in the food industry without side effects on human health. Electron-temperature (T e) measurements in implosions provide valuable diagnostic information, as T e is negligibly affected by residual flows and other non-thermal effects unlike ion-temperature inferred from a fusion product spectrum. In OMEGA cryogenic implosions, measurement of T e(t) can be used to investigate effects related to time-resolved hot-spot energy balance. The newly implemented phase-2 Particle X-ray Temporal Diagnostic (PXTD) utilizes four fast-rise (∼15 ps) scintillator-channels with distinct x-ray filtering. The effects of tritium at low doses and low dose rates have received increasing attention due to recent developments in fusion energy and the associated risks of tritium releases into the environment. Mitochondria have been identified as a potential candidate for studying the effects of low-dose/low-dose-rate radiation, with extensive experimental results obtained using X-ray irradiation. In this study, irradiation experiments were conducted on normal B-lymphoblastoid cells using HTO at varying doses.
