Resumen
Demographic projections predict a substantial growth in adults age 65 or older relative to the rest of the population. Currently, the cost to employers to provide health benefits for retirees has skyrocketed. To address this issue, a change in the concept of health promotion is advocated to include the maintenance and rehabilitation of functional capacity for retired employees. The physiological and psychological benefits of group exercise are presented. The development of a group exercise program to meet the specific needs of older adults is discussed. Future trends in corporate health promotion are suggested, and issues relevant to the development of exercise programs for older adults are addressed.

Resumen
Physical fitness is an essential aspect of life. The role of physical fitness in living life is limited to athletes and society in general. For workers, having a fit body will increase productivity because they do not feel tired quickly. Good physical fitness is supported by good endurance as well. However, endurance does not play a single role in supporting physical activity. Having good endurance is indeed beneficial and is a must for individuals involved in activities or work that take a long time. Please note that every activity or work has specific targets that must be completed. Other aspects must be possessed in order to become an individual with complete physical fitness. The demands of the quality of physical fitness in the general public certainly cannot be equated with athletes' standards. For the general public, not getting tired of doing work and meeting the targets given by the institution where they work is already extraordinary.

Resumen
ABSTRACT Physical fitness is the ability of one's body to do daily work without causing significant fatigue. Several factors related to fitness are nutritional status, level of physical activity, intake of macro nutrients, genetic makeup, age, sex, health status. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the level of energy sufficiency and macro nutrients, the level of physical activity with the level of fitness in Pandeglang District Hospital employees. The study design was cross sectional with 75 respondents and used a chi-square analysis test. There is no relationship between the level of energy sufficiency (p-value 1,000) the level of protein sufficiency (p-value 1,000), the level of fat sufficiency (p-value 1,000), the level of carbohydrate adequacy (p-value 0.768) with the fitness level of employees of Pandeglang District Hospital. There is a relationship between physical activity (p-value 0,000) with the fitness level of employees of Pandeglang District Hospital. Employees who have a sufficient level of energy and macro nutrients are on average have a less fitness level. Employees who have a mild level of physical activity tend to have less fitness. So it is necessary to monitor food intake, and the level of physical activity on employees. Keywords: Macro Nutrition Intake, Physical Activity, Fitness Level

Resumen
Introduction: Work capacity is related to the ability required for finishing a job at a certain period, and its performance is influenced by physical fitness. PT Petrokimia Gresik's medical check-up result in 2018 showed that there were only 51% of employees with good physical fitness, 37.8% with average physical fitness, and the other 11.2% was not tested due to illness or was pregnant. The objective of this research was to understand the contributing factors that can affect the physical fitness of the employees that were actively involved in physical exercises in PT Petrokimia Gresik. Method: This research was non-reactive or unobtrusive with cross-sectional research design and conducted in December of 2019. The population was employees that have previously done medical check-up after physical exercise for more than 24 activities with a minimum of 126 km within 3 months amounted to 90 and had 55 samples gathered by using the simple random sampling technique. The independent variables were age, work period, and the frequency of exercise. The dependent variable was the physical fitness calculated by ergocycle during the medical check-up. The data analysis was done descriptively and the correlation test was done by the Chi-Square and Fisher’s Exact Test. Result: In this research, some employees were older than 30 years old (54.5%), male (98.2%), have working period longer than 3 years (65.6%), have normal-day working system (76.4%), performing exercises for at least 3x per week (56.4%), and had a good physical fitness (78.2%). Conclusion: age and working period are the factors related to the physical health of the employees, meanwhile exercising has no connection with the physical health of the employees if it is done without intensity and duration monitoring. Keywords: exercise, individual characteristics, physical fitness

Resumen
Purpose Workplace exercise programmes have been shown to increase employee participation in physical activities and improve health and fitness in the short-term. However, the limited breadth of employee engagement across organisations combined with declining exercise adherence within individual studies indicates a need for better-informed programmes. The purpose of this paper is to investigate relationships between employee moderate-vigorous physical activity (exercise) participation and their perceived barriers and facilitators to engagement in onsite exercise, to inform the design and implementation of future workplace exercise interventions. Design/methodology/approach An online survey identified employee demographics, exercise (International Physical Activity Questionnaire), perceived barriers (Corporate Exercise Barriers Scale) and facilitators to exercise at an Australian university. Findings Of the 252 full-time employees who responded, most reported meeting (43.7 per cent) or exceeding (42.9 per cent) exercise guidelines over the previous week. A lack of time or reduced motivation (p<0.001), exercise attitude (p<0.05), internal (p<0.01) and external (p<0.01) barriers towards workplace exercise participation were all associated with failure to attain government-recommended volumes of weekly exercise. Personal training (particularly for insufficiently active employees) and group exercise classes were identified as potential exercise facilitators. Walking, gym (fitness centre), swimming and cycling were identified as the preferred modes of exercise training. Practical implications Employees not meeting recommended volumes of exercise might require additional support such as individualised gym and cycling programmes with personal supervision to overcome reported exercise barriers to improve exercise participation, health and fitness. Originality/value This study identifies specific barriers and facilitators to workplace exercise participation perceived by university employees. These findings can be used to inform the design and implementation of workplace exercise programmes aiming to achieve wider workplace engagement and greater exercise adherence, particularly of less active employees.

Resumen
SummaryStudy aim: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the impact of a social media exercise platform (HeiaHeia, Helsinki, Finland) on the level of physical activity, physical fitness, wellbeing and body weight of the service users. Material and methods: The subject group consisted of 2862 individuals who voluntarily participated in a web survey. Their age, gender, body mass index, physical fitness level and activity information were self-reported. Results: Most of the service users (78.1%) exercised more than three times a week. About 75% of the users reported that they were in good or excellent physical fitness, while about 50% were overweight. More than half (64.6%) of the service users reported that they had perceived an increase in their level of physical activity; and 46.4% of them reported that they had perceived an advance in their physical fitness after using the social media service. In addition, 54.0% of the users perceived an increase in their wellbeing. Every fifth (21.3%) user reported a decreased body weight after using the service. Those users with lower levels of physical fitness, lower physical activity and who were overweight were more likely to report that the use of the present service was beneficial. In total, about 75% of the service users reported at least one benefit after using the service. Conclusion: The present study demonstrated that the use of the social media exercise service can lead to an enhanced perceived level of physical activity, fitness and wellbeing. It also impacts positively on the users’ body weight. Thus, the present social media service can be recommended for use, especially for overweight, unfit and sedentary customers.

Resumen
Background: The protective properties of high physical fitness levels on health are manifest independently of age, sex, fatness, smoking, alcohol consumption, and other clinical factors. However, women are less active than men, which contributes to low physical fitness and a high risk of CVD. Thus, the objective of this study is to analyze the effect of two exercise interventions on health-related physical fitness in sedentary employed females. Methods: A total of 98 physically inactive adult women were randomly assigned to 3 study groups: the control group (CG) = 31, the endurance training group based on Zumba Fitness® classes (ET; n = 39), and the concurrent training group that had an extra muscle-strengthening workout after the Zumba Fitness® class (CnT; n = 28). Body composition (BMI, waist circumference), motor fitness (one-leg stand test), musculoskeletal fitness (shoulder–neck mobility, handgrip strength test, jump and reach test, and dynamic sit-up test), and cardiorespiratory fitness (2-km test and estimated VO2 max) were assessed with the ALPHA-Fit test battery for adults. Results: Both interventions showed a significant improvement in the majority of health-related fitness and body composition variables/test (waist circumference: ET = −2.275 ± 0.95, p = 0.02, CnT = −2.550 ± 1.13, p = 0.03; one-stand leg test: ET = 13.532 ± 2.65, p < 0.001; CnT = 11.656 ± 2.88, p < 0.001; shoulder–neck mobility: ET = 1.757 ± 0.44, p < 0.001, CnT = 2.123 ± 0.47, p < 0.001; handgrip test: 0.274 ± 0.08, p < 0.001, CnT = 0.352 ± 0.08, p < 0.001; dynamic sit-up: ET = 1.769 ± 0.45, p < 0.001, CnT = −1.836 ± 0.49, p < 0.001; 2-km test time: −1.280 ± 0.25, p < 0.001, CnT = −1.808 ± 0.28, p < 0.001; estimated VO2 max: ET = 1.306 ± 0.13, p < 0.001, CnT = 1.191 ± 0.15, p < 0.001). There were no significant differences after the intervention between the two exercise intervention groups. Conclusions: Exercise interventions based on Zumba fitness® or Zumba fitness® combined with an extra muscle-strengthening workout based on bodyweight training exercises are effective strategies to improve the health-related physical fitness in sedentary women employees.

Resumen
Many Americans do not engage in the recommended amount of physical activity, and thus do not receive the potential physical and mental health benefits from physical activity. Stage of change is a model that categorizes individuals into one of five stages based on behavior and intentions for future behavior. This model is useful for promoting physical activity because it allows for tailoring of interventions to individuals with different physical activity levels and readiness for change. The main purpose of this research was to test if more adaptive scores for Essential Self-Regulation Model (ESRM) constructs are found for persons in higher stages of change. Analyses included 96 Western Kentucky University faculty and staff to test the hypothesis that as stage of change increases, the more adaptive the scores will be in regard to the ESRM constructs, including: self-determination (i.e., subtypes of motivation), self-efficacy, attributions, goal setting, strategy use, and self-monitoring. The results supported this hypothesis for intrinsic, integrated, and identified subtypes of motivation, cost, self-efficacy, and goal setting. Constructs that were not significant but had results in the hypothesized direction were introjected and amotivated subtypes of motivation, strategy use, and selfmonitoring. Attribution scores resulted in the opposite of the hypothesized direction. Conclusions, limitations, implications, and suggestions for future research are discussed.

Resumen
Background Sedentary behaviour has incrementally increased over the past few years. The scientific community recognises this behaviour as a twenty first century disease which reflects the detrimental effects of excessive sitting on several adverse functional and clinical health outcomes, such as chronic disease, in the general adult population. Many evolving contemporary occupations require that employees sit an average of eight hours per day at work stations or office desks, especially when using communication technology. Even after accounting for the self-reported time spent in recommended physical activity, the negative dose-response relationship between time spent in sedentary behaviour and the all-cause and cardiovascular disease mortality still remain. Aim: To establish a profile of sedentary behaviour as well as levels of physical activity and coronary artery disease risk factors in employees at a tertiary institute in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. Another aim is to determine whether an association exists between the aforementioned variables.

Resumen
Nine physiological measures were evaluated pre- to post-intervention on subjects participating in a university health promotion program over a seven-month period. Frequency of program attendance and choice of activity were also assessed. Of the 88 employees initially screened, most of the subjects were staff members (n=82, 93%),with a majority being female (n=68, 77%). Significant differences in physiological measures were found pre- to post-intervention between "higher" and "lower" cardiovascular risk participants, primarily due to the type of activity chosen. .The results indicate that health promotion programs at a university are an effective way to have an impact on employees in reducing their cardiovascular risk factors.

Resumen
Thesis (MScSportSc)--University of Stellenbosch, 2003.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: For many companies, health care can consume half of corporate profits or more. Some employers look to cost sharing, cost shifting, managed care plans, risk rating and cash based rebates or incentives. These methods merely shift costs. Absenteeism in South Africa claims 3.2% of all scheduled work hours, 43 000 work hours per week, 9 days lost per employee per year and 1 employee in every 15 on a weekly basis. The main objective of this study was to establish the effect of a physical wellness intervention on the chronic absenteeism of a governmental company like Eskom. Fiftyfour males with a mean age of 42.13 years, participated in the program. Morphological and physiological variables included fat percentage; body mass index (BMI), cholesterol, blood pressure (BP), flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, waist circumference and muscle endurance. The participants were divided into four groups consisting of 12-15 individuals. Data was collected over a period of six months (March-August 2001). There were six sessions in which the subjects participated namely: wellness awareness, general body wellness, heart wellness, stress wellness, posture wellness and nutritional wellness. These sessions focussed on education, testing and physical activity, with follow-ups and maintenance at the Biokinetic rehabilitation station. Trends for the group were traced using a statistical analysis for absenteeism tallying the GSAR (gross sickness absentee rate) and AFR (absentee frequency rate) for the participants. The GSAR and AFR were significantly lower during the intervention. The return of investment was calculated based on the amount of hours worked per month on the August 2001 payroll, where the increment figure is based on an average increase of 7.9%. The result of the study concluded that work-site body wellness is health care reform that works, with absenteeism decreasing significantly and an improved employee health status.

In order to promote health in the population, the health promotion offered through the workplace is essential. The health care allowance which is offered by many employers contributes to the health promotion within businesses and organizations. The purpose of the survey was to find out how employees in a workplace relate to the health care allowance and what the underlying reasons are for its use or non-use. A second objective was to describe the employees' fitness habits and attitude towards health. The design was a cross-sectional study and the approach was a quantitative, descriptive study. The study population was employees in workplaces where a health care allowance was offered. The sample was 134 employees at the company Anticimex Region Norr. Data collection was done through a web-based questionnaire. The response rate was 38 %. 45 % of the respondents used the health care allowance. Stated reasons for the non-use of the allowance were; ignorance, unsatisfactory activities, too small amount of the allowance and complexity of the rules. Training frequency differed between those who used and those who did not use the allowance but all respondents stated that health was important to them. For employers who seek to extend the use of the health care allowance among their employees and aim to create better working environment there are several opportunities for improvement. More channels for the distribution of information could be one alternative and health promotion activities ought to be offered in the workplace.

Resumen
Prolonged absence from normal activities, including work, is often detrimental to a person’s mental, physical, and social well-being, whereas a timely return to appropriate work benefits the patient and his or her family by enhancing recovery and reducing disability. An approach to rehabilitation based upon a biopsychosocial model is necessary to identify and address the obstacles to recovery and barriers to return to work. It should also meet the needs of those with common health problems who do not recover in a timely fashion. Rehabilitation is dependent on labour market opportunities, and availability, as well as personal capabilities related to the physical and psychological demands of work. A patient’s return to function and work as soon as possible after an illness or injury should be encouraged and supported by employers, health professionals, fellow employees, and rehabilitation service providers. A safe and timely return to work also preserves a skilled and stable workforce and reduces demands on health and social services.

Resumen
Occupational activities can result in certain musculoskeletal disorders due to prolonged repetitiveness, inappropriate ergonomic settings, physical hardship, and acute injuries. These disorders comprise a major portion of sickness absence, presenteeism, and referrals to occupational health services with a significant burden on the economy. Some of these disorders are more common in the ageing workforce, and some can become complicated by the expanding epidemy of obesity. An occupational health practitioner is required to have evidence-based knowledge about these disorders in terms of occupational aetiology, preventative or attenuating measures at workplaces, medical and surgical therapeutic interventions, and relevant rehabilitation processes. This chapter covers most of the common work-related musculoskeletal disorders affecting upper and lower limbs with emphasis on their work implications that can assist occupational health practitioners with providing appropriate recommendations for employers and employees.

Resumen
A key change brought due to COVID-19 is an upsurge in pandemic-related psychological imbalances, which acts as a substantial stressor for unprecedented distress to the mental health of the employees in SMEs. The study concentrates upon risk factors associated with COVID-19 pandemic, which lead to psychological imbalances among the employees. It also identifies different physiological, emotional, and behavioral inconsistencies caused due to the impact of the pandemic. The study explains various techniques of psychological resilience, which include the assessment of the four pillars (i.e., sleep hygiene, nutrition, physical fitness, and social support), emotion-based coping, grounding, diaphragmatic breathing, mindfulness, altruism, and self-awareness. The exploratory study performed an analysis of available published data from different recognized directories of journals with the use of the systematic review technique.

Resumen
Seafaring, work in the offshore energy sector, and commercial diving share a number of common features that are relevant to the assessment of fitness to work. Physically and mentally demanding tasks, many of which are considered safety critical, are performed, often in an unforgiving environment. Workplaces are commonly remote from onshore health and emergency services, necessitating the provision of emergency medical and incident (including fire) response on site. Employees must be trained and physically and mentally capable of performing these rare but demanding roles. The risks from a serious injury or illness are raised by the lack of full medical care facilities.

Resumen
The skin acts as a protective barrier against a number of hazards within our environment. These hazards can be chemical (e.g. acids, alkalis, solvents, or oils), biological, (e.g. bacteria, plant allergens, or raw food), or physical (e.g. ultraviolet light or mechanical shearing forces). Occupational skin diseases are significant, with irritant contact dermatitis being the commonest. Pre-existing skin diseases and occupational skin diseases have implications for employment, where legal considerations are relevant. When workers are exposed to hazardous substances at work, employers have a duty under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health regulations. When severe, occupational skin diseases may warrant workplace adjustments or redeployment.

Resumen
This chapter describes occupational health perspectives on women’s health at work. It looks at known physical and anticipated psychological symptoms of gynaecological and obstetric disorders and gender dysphoria manifested in a range of symptoms that have an impact on work health and performance. It advises on possible adjustments and applicable legal requirements where relevant. Pregnancy and menopause are separate headings as they are common in the workplace, as more women are working, and working for longer. The adjustments to help the employee with such issues at work are in order to acknowledge and normalize these issues, while maintaining good health and performance at work. New additions include infertility and gender dysphoria, and their management in the workplace. Risk assessments in different work scenarios are crucial in order to advise on adjustments. This chapter is written for qualified, trained occupational health personnel, but can be used by other clinicians and interested parties.

Resumen
Few haematological disorders are caused or exacerbated by work. However, they may affect an employee’s capacity to work. Mild haematological derangements (e.g. iron deficiency anaemia, anticoagulant treatment) are common, but have only minor implications for employment. Conversely, genetic and malignant haematological diseases, although comparatively uncommon, are complex and affect young people of working age. Malignant disease has a profound impact on work capability during the treatment and early recovery phases. However, advances in clinical management achieve a much greater potential for return to work during treatment, and a growing population of survivors in whom it is important to address employment issues. The evidence base contains little research about fitness for work related to haematological disease, functional rehabilitation, or prevalence rates for specific disorders in the working population. The likelihood of an occupational physician encountering haematological disease in fitness for work assessments is therefore based on occurrence in the general population and this chapter relies primarily on traditional textbook teaching, and recent reviews of advances in clinical management. It contains brief summaries of the more common haematological disorders that an occupational physician might encounter when advising about fitness for work. The major determinants of functional capacity are similar for many haematological conditions. In order to avoid repetition the common treatments, complications and symptoms are covered under ‘Generic issues’.

Resumen
The kidney has the vital function of excretion, and controls acid–base, fluid, and electrolyte balance. It also acts as an endocrine organ. Renal failure, with severe impairment of these functions, results from a number of different processes, most of which are acquired, although some may be inherited. Glomerulonephritis, which presents with proteinuria, haematuria, or both, may be accompanied by hypertension and impaired renal function. Pyelonephritis with renal scarring is the end result of infective disorders. Diabetes is now the commonest cause of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in the UK and other systemic disease such as hypertension and collagen disorders can also affect the kidney. Polycystic kidney disease is the commonest inherited disorder leading to renal failure. Chronic renal failure implies permanent renal damage, which is likely to be progressive and will eventually require renal replacement therapy. Treatment of ESRD using haemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) can significantly improve physical and metabolic well-being and function but the proportion of those who continue to work with ESRD remains very low despite advances in treatment. Kidney transplantation enables many patients to return to normal lives including work. Reintegration of patients into the workforce following transplantation or dialysis offers an exciting and rewarding challenge to the wider health team. Renal disease is not within the top ten of the most costly diseases for employers and accounts for less than 1 per cent of sickness absence and incapacity claims. Urinary incontinence affects significant proportions of the workforce particularly women. Better management of urinary infections and calculi, prostatic obstruction, incontinence, and other complications of urinary tract disease has significantly reduced time lost from work.

Resumen
This paper introduces a remote Photoplethysmography (rPPG), which is used to estimate human heart rate withoutany physical contact, has been extensively applied in multiple fields like medical diagnosis, analysis of humanemotions, rehabilitation training programs, biometric, and fitness assessments. The rPPG signals are usually ex-tracted from facial videos. However, it is still a challenging task due to several contributing factors, e.g., variationin skin tone, lighting condition, and subject’s motion. Accordingly, in this work, a novel approach based on deeplearning skin detection method and the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is employed to precisely estimate heartrate from facial videos. In the proposed method, by implementing the DWT, the signal is decomposed into approx-imations and details parts thereby it helps in analyzing it at different frequency bands with different resolutions. The results derived from the experiments show that our proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art methodson the UBFC-RPPG database.

Resumen
The paper is produced based on the authors’ research “Assessment of the Introduction of the Rural Development Programme 2007–2013 Activity “Local Development Strategy” by the Partnership of Rezekne District Communities and Proposals for its Further Development”. Research on the activity of local action groups (LAGs) and their influence on the overall development of regional territories became urgent in recent years, given the implementation of the European programme LEADER. The research object of the paper is a LAG – the Partnership of Rezekne District Communities – that is located in Latvia, Latgale region. The research aim is to assess the strategy of the local action group. The research employed the monographic and descriptive methods as well as analysis, synthesis, the graphic method, data grouping and a sociological research method – a questionnaire survey. A survey of project submitters identified three major fields in which it is planned to submit and implement projects in the next programming period in the LAG’s territory. They are: promotion of active recreation and sports; reconstruction of the territory; and organisation of and contribution to cultural events. The surveyed residents agreed with the following assertions regarding their lifestyle: an enhanced surrounding environment and natural, cultural and other significant historical objects foster tourism; the establishment and functioning of youth centres contribute to useful spending of leisure time by youths and their communication; the availability of sport and fitness equipment and of sports grounds increases local residents’ interest and wish to practise a healthy and physically active lifestyle. Based on the data acquired and the interpretation of findings, proposals were made for the further development of the territory as well as the research methodology was explained for the purpose of carrying out analogues research studies in the future.
