Resumen
At the turn of the 20th-21st centuries, the literary process of the USA demonstrates a steady move towards an organic fusion of fiction and nonfiction, on the one hand, and mythologization / demythologization of national history and images, on the other. This paper addresses mythologization of the image of the father in nonfiction novels “Unto the Sons” (1992) by G. Talese and “Patrimony: A True Story” (1991) by Ph. Roth. In their literary nonfiction, both G. Talese and Ph. Roth often turn to the problems of the search for national identity, which is connected with their origin. In the book “Unto the Sons”, G. Talese dwells upon the history of his family, focusing on the image of his father whom he presents as the embodiment of the national type of a self-made man. “Patrimony: A True Story” by Ph. Roth focuses on the serious illness and death of the writer’s father, which makes him plunge into philosophical reflections on life and death, national history and identity. Based on the material of these works, the article considers the synthesis of fiction and nonfiction in G. Talese’s and Ph. Roth’s creative work, in particular, in terms of transformation of a real person into a mythological figure.

Resumen
Abstract The late-nineteenth-century Russian nihilist movement was popularized by the portrait of Bazarov in Ivan Turgenev’s Fathers and Sons. But despite Turgenev’s nuanced and poignant portrayal, nihilism became associated with Russian revolutionary activities and especially terrorism. Discussions of the nihilist ethos were not limited to Russia but pervaded print culture in Western Europe. The orientalizing rhetoric of British journalism placed Russia firmly in the Eastern camp, so that it offered both the spectacle of exotic, retrograde monarchy and the equally fascinating or threatening vision of revolution in Europe. Revolutionary activities in Russia became part of the “dynamite theme” in British fiction of the fin de siècle, when terrorism also accompanied anarchist movements in continental Europe and Fenian bombings in support of Irish independence. Additionally, Russians became part of the London population through the immigration of Jews, a movement that increased significantly after around 1880. Russian dissidents themselves were welcomed in Britain after the Extradition Act of 1870. This article surveys a range of periodical writings, both reportage and fiction, in the last two decades of the nineteenth century. Periodical articles and stories reflect the pervasiveness and varied presentation of Russian revolutionary movements and ideas in late Victorian British publications.

Resumen
Up to the Second World War, representations of family relations in Lithuanian children’s literature follow a strict authoritarian model: parents (especially fathers) hold the reigns of power, and children are usually shown as obedient and mindful of parental advice. On the other hand, early Soviet-era texts show a sudden surge in family conflicts: sons argue with fathers, grandchildren lecture grandmothers, brother and sisters bicker. This interpretative shift calls for an examination of the representations of power dynamics offered to readers of that era. This article examines 1940s to 1950s prose in order to understand who in the family seeks to and succeeds in influencing other members; the sources of tensions; and the different kinds of arguments deployed. The author reveals how Soviet ideology and socialist realist aesthetics dismantled an earlier image of the family: disagreements are often depicted in political terms, devotion to the family is belittled in favor of responsibilities towards collective labour, and inter-generational hierarchies are reordered. Parental authority was especially damaged: there is an increase in situations in which parents’ dominion in the family is negated or their decisions challenged, their authority superseded by extra-familial worldviews and behaviors – ideologically progressive contemporaries or other adults. This change in paradigm was especially damaging to the image of the mother – she is often represented as a narrow-minded woman who is frustrated in her attempts to control her children and who ultimately becomes powerless, reserved, and focused on housework. The time period chosen for this analysis makes it possible to identify the appearance, peak, and ebb of this interpretation of family relations – in 1950s works the struggle for power begins to subside and parents regain their authority within the family.

Resumen
It is necessary for the writer to extract the description upon the contents of character analysis. The result of study might have produced the writer to expose the descriptive of the characters. The writer got starting to dig some advantages of describing the characters in the novel of ‘The Kite Runner’ through the story that is taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of the monarchy to the present, ‘The Kite Runner’ is the unforgettable, beautifully told story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. The Kite Runner is a novel about friendship, betrayal, and the price of loyalty. It is about the bonds between fathers and sons, and the power of their lies. Written against a history that has not been told in fiction before, The Kite Runner describes the rich culture and beauty of a land in the process of being destroyed. But with the devastation, Khaled Hosseini also gives us hope: through the novel's faith in the power of reading and storytelling, and in the possibilities he shows for redemption.

Resumen
In The Master of Petersburg, J. M. Coetzee gives pride of place to a tutelary figure of the Western novel, Fyodor Dostoevsky, opening up a dialogue with the latter’s life and work. If many aspects of Dostoevsky’s life are recognizable, Coetzee deliberately departs from biographical fact in important regards. He also engages with well-known Dostoevskian narratives, in particular The Possessed, a censored section of which is reworked in his own novel. This article examines how The Master of Petersburg can be read not only as a reflection on biological and literary filiation, but also as a critique of censorship and as a meditation on writing conceived as a liminal space that tends to erode the boundary line between the private and the public. Intimate though it may be, the act of writing is indeed likely to involve a betrayal of privacy — a necessary perversion of auto/biography seeking to achieve superior forms of truth through imaginative literature. This essay also argues that the conception of history Coetzee deploys may be influenced by his status as a postcolonial writer. Just as The Possessed was intended as an attack on those aiming for the radical destruction of old world orders and other historical legacies, so The Master of Petersburg can be approached as Coetzee’s own manifesto against nihilism and as a plea for a view of history as a transformative process — one that transcends binary oppositions in order to produce integrative discourses and epistemologies, instead of positing fathers against sons as foes in endless generational and colonial conflicts.

Resumen
The paper analyzes the generation gap in the Russian literature of the second part of 1850s. Our research is based on works published in magazines: short stories, novelettes, and novels by L. N. Tolstoy, E. P. Novikov, P. I. Melnikov-Pecherskii, S. T. Slavutinskii, S. A. Ladyzhenskii, N. M. Pavlov, etc. The generation gap in Russian literature of the second part of 1850s hasn’t yet been made an object of special research. It is traditionally touched upon in relation to the novel Fathers and Sons (1862) by I. S. Turgenev and fiction ‘generated’ by this novel. However, variants of 1850s and of 1860s differ from each other in significant ways: these variants linked by various ideas, heroes, plots and other. The paper features two variants of the generation gap formed in the Russian literature of the second part of 1850s: great-grandfather / grandfather versus children, fathers versus children. The paper contains a detailed analysis of characterology and plot functions of protagonists that collide with each other, as well as structural-semantic plot organization. First generation gap formed in the middle of 1850s. Short stories, novelettes, and novels have similar plot-composition structures: a story from the distant Russian past forms the plot core; as a rule, events take place in the 18th century (the so-called grandfather’s time); most often, the story is told by a servant of an old lord or is written down after his words; the audience of the story is meant to be from the middle of the 19th century; in some cases, he is also the narrator, a young man who compares generation values of the 18th and 19th centuries. The paper asserts that, in spite of the fact that events take place in the past, the generation are identified through the turn towards social processes of the second half of the 1850s, particularly the emancipation reform. Literature and criticism emphasize the arrival of the new educated follower of democratic reforms instead of the hot-tempered landowner of the old type. The type of the educated landowner gained prominence in 1850–1860s during the active discussion of the emancipation reform. The main narrative function of such protagonists is to prove the effectiveness of democratic theories in practice. At the core of the plot there is the conflict with the generation of fathers, the opponents of reform. We propose that the generation of children, as well as the generation of fathers, is needy: in spite of their education, the young men are shown to be petty and unable to act upon their words or understand the peasant way of life. The protagonists explain their lack of success by other reasons: the new generation was too hasty in their actions. In conclusion, we maintain that Russian literature reflects an important social process of second part of 1850s, namely the anticipation of a ‘new’ man able to act upon popular democratic theories. This type formed ex adverso: writers and critics show a kind of behavior that differs from that of great-grandfathers, grandfathers, or fathers. However, the problem of rearrangement of the social system is beyond the abilities of the ‘fifties’ protagonist’. Much as he differs from his ancestors, he remains their descendant. A demonstrative devotion to democratic theories does not negate his aristocratic privileges. As a result, the plot turns stemming from popular ideas do not work as expected in the end.

Resumen
An important but little-studied feature of Toni Morrison's novels is their ambivalent relationship with classical tradition. Morrison was a classics minor while at Howard University, and her deployment of the cultural practices of ancient Greece and Rome is fundamental to her radical project. Indeed, the works' revisionary classicism extends far beyond the scope of established criticism, which has largely confined itself to the engagement with Greek tragedy in Beloved, with the Demeter/Kore myth in The Bluest Eye and with allusions to Oedipus and Odysseus in Song of Solomon.1 Morrison repeatedly subverts the central role that Greece and Rome have played in American self-definition and historiography. In Paradise, for example, the affinity between the Oven in Ruby and the Greek koine hestia or communal hearth critiques the historical Founding Fathers' insistence on their new nation's analogical relationship with the ancient republics. And in their densely allusive rewritings of slavery, the Civil War and its aftermath, Beloved and Jazz expose the dependence of the “Old South” on classical pastoral tradition. It should come as no surprise, therefore, that in her most recent novel – Love (2003) – Morrison further develops the transformative engagement with America's Graeco-Roman inheritance that characterizes all of her previous fiction.2

Resumen
Snow Flower and The Secret Fan is one type of fiction novel written by Lisa See in 2005. Snow Flower and The Secret Fan tells about the lives of Chinese women in the nineteenth century where women's position was lower than men. In that era, there was a tradition that required women to tie their legs when they were young then caused them to endure unbearable pain because of a leg tie. By tying their legs, they can get married and improve their social status and bring them to a better life. Legs bound are to be sexually pleasure for men to achieve sexual satisfaction. In addition, in that era women were not permitted to get education like men. This problem was the impact of the Patriarchal culture. In the Patriarchal culture, there is a Confucian teaching that is used as a way of life for Chinese people. The teaching requires women to obey men: Father, husband, and later their sons. Therefore, Chinese women live as a second-class. In conducting this research, the author uses Representation Theory by Stuart Hall. Research shows that female oppression is clearly illustrated in the novel through a leg tie. Lisa See realistically describes the real conditions of women's oppression in China in the Snow Flower novel and The Secret Fan.

Resumen
The dissertation is a collection of eighteen short stories. These stories relate the life experiences of the first-person narrator and chronicle a period of twenty years. They are arranged in five thematic groups: Expectations, Questions, Lighter Moments, Answers, and Separation. The focus of each one represents the narrator's experiences with his father, as the narrator attempts to understand a man who exerts such control over his life. Expectations contains three stories, with the first depicting the narrator's earliest association with his father. The other two represent significant growth experiences. The five stories in the Questions portion focus on the youthful narrator as he tries to understand the reasons behind his father's values and moral lessons. In the section, Lighter Moments, there are four stories in which the narrator is in his late teens and recalls four incidents that lacked the usual serious undertones prevalent in most of his experiences with his father. Answers is composed of three stories in which the narrator, nearing manhood, struggles with feelings of disillusionment with the life his father has planned for him, as well as the realization that his father controls every aspect of his life. The final section of three stories, Separation, depicts the narrator, a young man in his twenties with his own family, coping with the need to escape his father's control.

Resumen
The remains of James Oliver Plunkett are dug up one night from their grave at Mount Calvary Cemetery by two college adjunct writing professors, Bob Rusher and Phil Pike. Having chopped through Plunkett's coffin with a pick, Rusher lifts Plunkett's skeleton from the coffin and pronounces his name--and in this moment Plunkett returns to consciousness as a cognitive vapor. The reason that Plunkett has been dug up is hinted at: After writing many unpublished novels and stories during his lifetime, and dying utterly anonymous, Plunkett's fiction has somehow been posthumously published, to great acclaim. Rusher is a huge fan of Plunkett's published work and is digging him up in the belief that one of his unpublished novels--The King of Portland--has been buried with him. When he does not find the novel, Rusher decides to kidnap the remains to force Plunkett's family to reveal the status of The King of Portland. Plunkett drives with Rusher and Pike to a strip club called the Serpentine, located in downtown Portland. They are not aware of Plunkett, but when they enter the club, leaving his bones behind in the car in a brown sack, Plunkett accompanies them. Rusher is courting one of the strippers, Hazel, and has given her one of Plunkett's posthumous novels to read, which she's enjoyed. Hazel's employer and perhaps boyfriend Chuck arrives at Rusher and Pike's table and, with Hazel still present, demonstrates his claim to the stripper by urinating in Rusher's beer. Rusher leaves the club humiliated. After dropping Pike off, he drives to the Hollywood District and brings the sack with Plunkett's remains into his house. His girlfriend Ava Snyder is there, reading the poet Rilke in the bathtub--fully clothed, smoking a cigarette, lying on an air mattress, and drinking an old fashioned. Plunkett is present in consciousness throughout. Rusher does not tell Ava about his grave robbing or the bone-sack he's carrying; but when he leaves Ava in the tub, taking the bones with him, Plunkett remains behind in the bathroom and is startled to find himself privy to Ava's thoughts. After Ava splits from Rusher, Plunkett remains with her, experiencing her life while wondering about the family he might have left behind at his death, nine years earlier. Ava has a scary encounter with her bullying, drug-addled sister Judy, during which she has hints of Plunkett's presence in her mind; but Ava dismisses these hints until after a disappointing visit to her mother, with whom she has long had trouble communicating. At this point Ava hears Plunkett's voice for the first time, and they begin conversing. After transitioning from disbelief to annoyance to the intimate, irresistible pull of their shared consciousness, Ava eventually helps Plunkett to discover the reason for his posthumous, unlikely literary fame and the state of his still-living family: A wife and son who have reaped the profits of his posthumous success, but do not harbor fond memories of their long lives together with him. Plunkett has a vision of his death, in which he apparently committed suicide over his decades-long literary obscurity. Ava seeks out Plunkett's son, Kyle Fleming, an artist who has established his own, prominent comic book company. Kyle is bitter toward his father for neglecting him while growing up, and has taken on his mother's maiden name; but he then reveals that it was his father's fame that propelled him to celebrity as a comic book artist and publisher. Meanwhile, Plunkett's wife Camille is suffering from dementia and lives in a managed care facility. Ava and Plunkett arrive at Camille's room; in the presence of her late husband's consciousness, Camille reveals that it was she who asked Kyle to send out one of his unpublished manuscripts for publication--a romance novel whose enormous, unexpected success led to the publication of several other best-selling works by Plunkett. In spite of this, Camille tells Plunkett that she experienced the happiest years of her life after he died. While Plunkett was never violent and rarely verbally abusive, he was always distant, neglecting his wife and son to write his fiction around a series of demanding day jobs. After this visit, in which she thought she might lose him to Camille, Ava informs Plunkett that she has fallen in love with him. Plunkett reciprocates her feelings. And yet, Plunkett's lack of physical being is causing Ava to consider a romance with Kyle, his son, in order to experience more fully the voice of the dead writer she has come to love. Ava meets Kyle at a bar on Lombard Street; Kyle informs Ava that his mother, Camille, has died. Kyle insists that Ava take him to the managed care home to help make arrangements for his mother's body. During this car ride, with Ava driving, Kyle begins to hear his father's voice and to rail against him. Kyle reveals that his father hasn't committed suicide, but that he shot him for what he considered to be Plunkett's cruelty toward his mother. Ava and Plunkett are stunned. By this time, Ava has Plunkett's remains in the trunk of her car; she insists that Kyle return the bones to their grave as penance for the murder. At the cemetery Kyle runs away; Ava cannot bring herself to let go of Plunkett's remains. Ava's sister, Judy, shows up at the cemetery and in a drug-addled haze shoots Ava, of whom she has long been jealous. Ava dies of her wounds. Plunkett is left behind--but ultimately they are reunited in the dry, dark sea beyond this life.

Resumen
Thesis advisor: Andrew Sofer
In this thesis, it is my task to explore Shakespeare’s social analysis concerning the patriarchal structure of the family and the economic implications of this system. Four plays in particular, King Lear, Henry IV, As You Like It, and The Tempest resonate with these thematic elements. At the heart of these plays is the issue I call the paternal dilemma; the father or patriarch is a mere human, cannot live forever, and therefore needs to rely on an inheritance scheme to ensure the continuation of his line. This problem sees the institution of inheritance (namely, primogeniture) as a solution or antidote to mortality. In an investigation of these issues, I place myself in an already rich field of secondary criticism, examining how genre and family structure combine in what is ultimately a conservative understanding of the Elizabethan family

Resumen
Although there has been a new wave of research on fathering, little has focused specifically on the father and son relationship during adolescence. Previous research has documented that fathers and their daughters tend to distance themselves and disengage at the onset of menarche; however, the study and analysis of what happens to fathers and sons during the onset of puberty has been practically neglected. Several studies through the mid 80s and early 90s documented that parents and children tend to separate during adolescence, but only scant research has been conducted since that time. The goal of this study was to advance the knowledge base of father and son relationships during adolescence by examining the associations between pubertal status and psychosocial status, pubertal status and father involvement and psychosocial status and father involvement. Erikson's theory of psychosocial development was well-suited to guide this research because of his emphasis on development through the life-span. Particularly, Erikson's postulates regarding identity, adolescence and mid life were helpful in driving the research methodology and explaining the findings. First, the Peterson Development Scale was used to assess pubertal status from both a father and son viewpoint. The measure was also useful in categorizing the young men studied into three pubertal groups. Second, the Parental Support Inventory was used to measure father-son involvement from the perspective of both fathers and their sons. Third, to measure the son's psychosocial status, the Extended Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status was employed, and to measure the father's psychosocial status, the Identity Status Inventory was utilized. Findings suggest that pubertal status does impact psychosocial development. In fact, there were statistically significant differences reported by fathers and sons between the three pubertal groups (pre, trans, and post) on the psychosocial status scale of foreclosure. The young men in the study scored high on the foreclosed scale in prepuberty and low in post-puberty. Typically, young men who score high on the foreclosure scale adopt the values and beliefs of their parents and rarely engage in questioning. Hence, as young men move through pubertal development, they begin to separate from the ideologies of their parents and seek out their own beliefs and opinions. Another finding suggested that as young men move through puberty, involvement with their father decreases, particularly on the dimensions of physical affection and general support. This study also demonstrated that fathers and sons do not perceive involvement or satisfaction in the same way. In fact, what fathers and sons need from each other appears to be different. Another significant finding was that fathers who score high on the information orientation scale (thoroughly consider relevant information before decisions and commitments are made) and the normative information scale (primarily concerned with the expectations of others) were less likely to have a son who scored high on the diffusion scale (low commitment, low exploration, live for the moment, impulsive). Finally, fathers who score high on the diffuse scale (procrastinating or failing to resolve conflicts) are less involved with their sons when compared to fathers who score high on the information or normative scales. In fact, fathers who score high on the information orientation and sons who score high on the foreclosed orientation are more involved with each other than any other psychosocial group.

Resumen
Parents play a vital role in the education of their children. Apart from providing material resources, they are also responsible for enhancing what is learnt at school and providing relevant background information about their children that is helpful to teachers. This research project focuses on engaging fathers in the education of their sons. It explores the roles played by fathers in the education of their sons and some of the barriers they encounter in trying to work with schools. For various reasons, fewer fathers engage in the education of their children yet they can play a vital role. Although the contribution to education by mothers cannot be ignored, this thesis contributes new knowledge to the unique influence that fathers have in the education of their sons. This enquiry is based on a qualitative case study carried out on a specialist secondary school in the UK. The participatory action research case study methodology adopted in this PhD thesis provided an opportunity to make an in-depth study of the phenomena. A triangular approach was employed in which the views of the fathers, boys and teachers were considered through interviews, document analysis and observations. The enquiry used a participatory action research approach in which participants were involved in the identification of the problem, implementation of an action and reflection of the whole process. Fathers, boys and teachers in the school participated in a series of meetings to suggest ways in which the school could improve the engagement of fathers. The research helped the school to formulate policy that improved the achievement of boys through the engagement of their fathers. Management at the school has taken on board most of the recommendations and is now in the process of improving and strengthening relationships with parents and fathers in particular. The school has employed a family liaison officer responsible for working with parents and advising staff on how to engage better with fathers. This research project has been driven by my own experiences as a father, teacher and son. It contributes new knowledge in the form of a "Father Engagement Model" designed for the school to engage and maintain relations with more fathers. The style of writing adopted in this thesis has been aimed at engaging a wide range of readers including the fathers and their sons of various reading levels.

Resumen
Slobodan and Aleksandar Obradović (father and son) from Bijelo Polje are authors whose fiction abounds in fantastic motifs ‒ characters’ actions, their ability to travel through time zones, their mythological features and the mission they are devoted to accomplish. Capable inventors, fliers, beings who transcendentally move from place to place require critical judgment ‒ whether contemporary children’s literature is truly in accordance with their age and whether and to what extent a child can identify with or distance from the characters. By combining symbols and fiction, both writers encourage readers to decipher the symbols and teach them the lesson of the story. The writers express their thoughts about important life issues through fictional characters, using narrative polyphony, skillfully avoiding identification with any character. Crossing the line between literary and non-literary is typical for both writers. In addition, parents’ role in child upbringing and their influence on the development of child’s imagination should be considered.

Resumen
The term "regression" was first used in the 1889 by Sir Francis Gal ton in his book, Natural Inheritance (1). His Law of Universal Regression stated that "each peculiarity in man is shared by his kinsman, but on the average on a lesser degree". Under this law, for example, the sons of tall men, although tall, will be on average shorter than their fathers and the sons of short men although short, will tend to be taller than their fathers.

Resumen
This paper reports the ethnoarchaeological project conducted in shipyards in Pasuruan, East Java, Indonesia, where boatbuilding skills and knowledge are exclusively transferred from fathers to sons. It aims to describe how the traditional boats are built, including details of the technique, tools, and materials used in the process. It will also overview the wooden ship and boat rmains found in Indonesia to date, to make a comparison between archaeology and ethnography data. This paper proposes that an in-depth study of traditional boatbuilding that is still in practice today can contribute significantly to the study of wooden shipwrecks in archaeological sites.

The article raises the question of the permissible limits of the women participation in political life in France in the XIV–XVth centuries. It is argued that only those women who came from noble and wealthy families, whose fathers, husbands, sons owned large land property, could provide political influ-ence and the manifestation of their political ambitions. However, even meeting the above criteria did not guarantee a woman to be involved in power, since being in power is an almost impossible task for women in medieval society. There is a special thing to speak about queens who only as regents of the kingdom (as happened with the wife of Charles VI Isabella of Bavaria) could receive political power, i. e. queen status in itself did not mean that she could independently exercise power not delegated to her by the king.

The sun and beach tourist megadevelopments have been stimulated by the Inter-American Bank of Development (BID) as projects of strategy of tourist development, in Mexico there are born the Integrally planned Centers (CIP's) to give urban order, decentralizing big tourist investments principally of origin foreigners. They are identified before the tourist promotion by the investment of inputs and technology. The emplacements have grown and destine spaces for the tourist temporary and permanent. This type stand out for being representations of exclusivity, privacy and safety, demonstrating interlock in the series of tourist sets constructed to integrate the tourist megadevelopment, limiting an access that indicates the beginning of the montage reality - fiction, shaping the montage of fiction, that they lead to constructing a reality from the imaginary one. The happened out of the montage will be considered to be a reality, on there having be established a series of page lay-outs that will make the new reality, the reality - fiction, between visual representations of fantasy, of sounds and overcoat of ideas for transmitting, since motivation is that the tourist guides prove for the tourists. The representations are based on images of landscapes, persons, cities and symbolic emblems. Of the chunk of images made and rescued of the natural or real environment, a plot relation was conforming across the page lay-out to the suitable sequence of each one of the scenes formed by the imaginary one, to join and to channel the montages for the fulfillment of the representation in a movie. Of the most out-standing examples they are the creations from the imaginary one in the United Arab Emirates represented in the hotels as tower hilton baynunah, jumeirah Beach burj al-arab, hotel w, hotel apearon island y hotel eta, which expose services as purchases of luxury, centers spa with exclusive facilities for the sport and the free time, equipped rooms with the last technology. The colors and the forms are distinguished for standing out before the Arabic culture, but it is important to indicate that each of these megadevelopments will mark with this series of montages, which will allow to arrange the series of chunks of images made before the imagined fantasy. The megadevelopments differ for creating tourist scenes from the imaginary one, emphasizing the interlock across the search of the safety concept, with a marked interest to shape new communities, likewise elements like them I access they are guarded by safety personnel that was indicating the welcome to the tourist, Without knowing that it will be guided and monitored by secret video cameras in the mass of the building, also safety elements are distinguished for the mobility and accessibility to the set, emphasizing airway, navally ó terrestrial, the tour to the interior being marked under an stairs of descending level to beach level, there was showing each of the tourist scenes mounted to indicate the tour to the tourist to the interior of the set.

Великодна, Мар’яна Сергіївна. Psychoanalytic Study on Psychological Features of Young Men «Millionaires» in Modern Provincial Ukraine. Theory and Practice of Modern Psychology, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.31812/123456789/3873.

Texto completo
Resumen
The article is based on three cases of private psychoanalytic work with successful businessmen from central and northern parts of Ukraine. The research methodology was psychoanalytic theories devoted to the unconscious meanings of money and the role of money in the psychoanalytic setting, including object theory, drive theory, psychosexual development theory, narcissism theory, Oedipus complex, transference and resistance. What presents the interest of this study are the cases when those who grew up in poverty finally obtains such a desired object — money, wealth, however, something unconscious hinders this person to get satisfied by it and even to admit obtaining it. The presented clinical work was conducted as classic psychoanalysis in person with different duration: 5, 10 and 46 months. Men were asked to tell whatever comes to mind: thoughts, memories, dreams, phantasies, feelings etc. The role of psychoanalyst was to hear specific connections between patient’s stories and to analyze them together with the patient. The cases presented highlight several psychological features of young men «millionaires» who suffer from their own success. 1. Sensitivity to Father’s (real or symbolic) acceptance of their business and financial success. 2. Activation of unconscious Oedipus complex and Complex of castration because of the risk to dethrone the Father in reality, with experiences of guilt, fear and expectation of punishment. 3. Projection of their own envy, hate, wish to avenge and killing phantasies into external objects (friends, partners, psychoanalyst) with building individual defensive strategies from them. These psychological features were associated not only with suffering and psychopathological symptoms but also with impossibility to continue business development. In addition, the cases analyzed in the article show some difficulties in building business connected with the generations gap. Fathers from the USSR or the 90s teach their sons to act in the way that is not relevant for successful careers nowadays. This latent or manifested struggle between generations may be an important factor in abovementioned psychological features.
