Different methods of estimating the value of recreational areas are discussed with particular attention being given to socioeconomic methods - the survey method and Clawson's method. Aspects of consumer's surplus and aggregating welfare measures have been dealt with. A Clawson method has been applied to empirical data from a forest area in Wales and data from a region in Denmark. In the case from Wales, it was found that 73% of all visitor groups in the sample were on holiday. On the Colorado Plateau, environments occupied by Mexican spotted owls (Strix occidentalis lucida) receive intense levels of recreational activity that could adversely effect their behavior and reproductive success. Any spatial restrictions on recreational activities in these narrow canyons would likely eliminate all recreational activity within a given canyon. The composition and structure of complexes of mycelial microorganisms have been studied to assess violations of the soil microbiota in recreational areas of the Central district of Voronezh. The species composition of micromycetes and actinomycetes typical of the regional background is preserved in suburban forest park areas, and redistribution by degree of dominance was observed.
