On the basis of a regional side-scan sonar survey covering a distance of 12 km on the São Francisco River Mouth between Piaçabuçu and Cabeço-Pontal da Barra (NE Brazil) a variety of bedforms have been distinguished. The river bed morphology of this area can be characterized by three main patterns: dunes, ripples and planar beds. Sand dunes occur as extensive 2D and 3D dune fields. AbstractFocusing on the varied responses of French psychiatrists to new theories of occupational therapy emerging after World War I, this chapter argues that the voices of psychiatrists in favour of the new methods were “drowned out” by those who continued to interpret mental disorder in purely organic terms, by the desire of many French psychiatrists to enhance their “scientific” credentials through the use of biological treatments, by the reliance on the funds generated by traditional forms of patients work, and by a lack of skilled staff to supervise occupational therapy. As a result, patients in French asylums continued to remain idle or to be occupied with tasks designed to benefit the institution rather than the patient.

AbstractAttestation logics have been used for specifying systems with policies involving different principals. Cyberlogic is an attestation logic used for the specification of Evidential Transactions (ETs). In such transactions, evidence has to be provided supporting its validity with respect to given policies. For example, visa applicants may be required to demonstrate that they have sufficient funds to visit a foreign country. Such evidence can be expressed as a Cyberlogic proof, possibly combined with non-logical data (e.g., a digitally signed document). A key issue is how to construct and communicate such evidence/proofs. It turns out that attestation modalities are challenging to use established proof-theoretic methods such as focusing. Our first contribution is the refinement of Cyberlogic proof theory with knowledge operators which can be used to represent knowledge bases local to one or more principals. Our second contribution is the identification of an executable fragment of Cyberlogic, called Cyberlogic programs, enabling the specification of ETs. Our third contribution is a sound and complete proof system for Cyberlogic programs enabling proof search similar to search in logic programming. Our final contribution is a proof certificate format for Cyberlogic programs inspired by Foundational Proof Certificates as a means to communicate evidence and check its validity.

This introductory chapter provides an overview of sovereign wealth funds (SWFs). It begins with a discussion of how policymakers of all stripes, from democracies to autocracies, have all come to see SWFs as important buffers against global market forces that threaten domestic institutions and policies. It then details the rise of SWFs; the effort to build trust through the voluntary Generally Accepted Principles and Practices, known as the Santiago Principles, developed by the International Working Group of SWFs with the support of the International Monetary Fund; the institutional form and function of SWFs; and the new geography of finance. It argues that SWFs represent the high-water mark of financialization and the next installment of capitalist development following Clark's (2000) pension fund capitalism.

The analytic formulae for solving forward/inverse displacement, velocity and acceleration are derived, the workspace and singularity poses are determined; the active forces are solved by using the virtual work theory.
