Texto completoRecent phonology enables one to reintegrate pitch, hitherto considered with a degree of disdain in Greek verse, in a global perception of rythm. In choosing Homeric Epics, we can ascertain the melodic power of the hexameter and verify current belief in the accuracy of transmission of intonations. Having determined a flexible system of coding for the relationship of tonalities with meter (tonotopy), we are able to identify both statiscally and contextually a number of important melodic effects in the Iliad. The approach, voluntarily non exhaustive, attemps to pave the way for a rational study of melody and hopes to maintain three dialogues ; firstly, between the prosody of language and stylistics ; secondly between interpretation and performance ; and finally, on the subject of Greek voice, exchanges involving poetics, musicology, on the assumption that tone (tonos) is a key to understanding greek correlation space (topos) and time (khronos)

Texto completoThe goal of this thesis is to present a comparative study of some aspects of rhythm (emphasis, duration, intonation) of the Korean language, as compared to these of French, and this, in the read speech and in the spontaneous speech. In the first part of this thesis, a preliminary study accounting for data of read sentences, so as to describe the realization of the different accents, the group accent and the accent of focalisation and of contrast. Results of this study are as followed : - the two languages share the same temporal and melodic patterns reflecting the group accent : one observes a congruency between syntax and prosody ; - on the other hand the prosodic structures are distinct as for the realization of the focal accent and the accent of contrast. This difference is again more visible in a corpus of French produced by a Korean speaker, at that one notes an interference of the mother tongue prosody on that of the language targets. From the results obtained in the preliminary study, we plan to develop the second and major part of the thesis to the study, in the two languages, of the perceptive and acoustic realizations of different accents (group accent and rhythmical accent) around the focal accent, in spontaneous speech, as compared to its read text. More particularly, variations of duration are methodically analysed to different prognostic levels (of phonetic segments in statements by passing by syllables, rhythmical groups and rhythmical sequences). The influence of the analysed accents on temporal profiles is equally evaluated. One of the main results to observe is the important role of the focal accent in the rhythmical organization of spontaneous speech

Texto completoThis is a study of the evolution of physical parameters invilved for stress ruled by sentence intonation. Selected substantives contain the 3 main stress positions in castilian -oxytonic, paroxytonic and proparoxytonic- which are also contained in the in order to study stress variability under intonative rule, the sentences have been studied in the declarative an interrogative noods. For each nood, we will study the variability of stress parameters for substantives by varying the structure of macrosegments. For instance first at the start of noun phrases and verb phrases, then preceded or followed by other elements (adverbs, adjectives, prepositional phrases). The latter belonging to a main clause or a subordinate clause. This research will enable us to elaborate prosodic prediction rules for speech syntesis
Saffi, Sophie. "La place et la fonction de l'accent en italien". Paris 3, 1990. http://www.theses.fr/1991PA030033.
Texto completoOur study aims to understand and to explain the use of the italian prosodic system according to the systematic method. We verify the internal logic of the contemporary italian prosodic system and show that its present function fits into a logical series with other gfunctional models which have preceded it (italic, latin). We paralleled the evolution of 1) word construction with 2) the position, nature and function of stress. It also shows the interdependence 1) of the emergence of the geminate and the diphthong with the heterogeneity of the word componants (i. E. Semantic and morphologic elements) 2) of the disappearance of this phenemenon with the homogeneity of the componants (only semantic elements). Italian, because of the heterogeneous nature of its words, uses tools (i. E. Stress, gem. , diphth. ) to facilitate the analytic reading of its words; therefore, the importance of the regularity of its syllabic structure. The establishment of a parallel betweenconstructive model i. E. Word sentence and accent intonation, permis us to define the function of thelatter. The study of three corpora in italian confirmsthe theorical hypothesis of the function of stress : to emphasize the sense. During our study we observed a causal relationship between the nature and the function of the various phenomena studied. So, we dispute the notion of the arbitrary sign and we link the study of the function to the study of the nature of stress

Texto completoTHE SUBJECT OF THE PRESENT THESIS IS PROSODIC SEGMENTATION, ITS PLACE WITHIN THE PROSODIC SYSTEM AND ITS RELATIONS TO LINGUISTIC FACTORS. THE STUDY AIMS TO CARACTERIZE THE STRESS UNIT lN A UNIVERSALIST PERSPECTIVE, AND SPECIFICALLY lN FRENCH AND CZECH. THE EXPERIMENTAL COMPARISON IS BASED ON A BILINGUAL CORPUS. THE STRESS UNIT CAN BE CHARACTERIZED BY A SET OF STRUCTURAL AND ACOUSTIC CORRELATES, A PART OF WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE SURPRISINGLY SIMlLAR lN THE TWO LANGUAGES: DESPlTE FUNDAMENTAL DIFFERENCES THAT EXIST BETWEEN FRENCH AND CZECH (PRIMARY STRESS WHICH IS FINAL lN FRENCH AND INITIAL lN CZECH, ACOUSTIC NATURE OF STRESS, MORPHOLOGY, WHICH IS ANALYTIC lN FRENCH AND SYNTHETIC lN CZECH), THE MEAN LENGTH OF THE UNIT (lN TERMS OF SYLLABLES), THE PRESENCE OF ISOCHRONY, THE FINAL LENGTHENING, THE INTONATION CONTOURS AND THE BEHA VIOUR OF INTENSITY ARE SUBJECT TO THE SAME UNDERLYING PRINCIPLES WHICH MAY HOWEVER DIFFER lN THEIR DIMENSIONS. THE STRESS, CHARACTERIZED BY A FIX POSITION lN THE TWO LANGUAGES, IS OFTEN TAKEN AS THE MAIN CRITERION OF SEGMENTATION. HOWEVER, SINCE ITS ACOUSTIC CORRELATES ARE OFTEN AMBIGUOUS, IT IS NECESSARY TO ADOPT A LESS RESTRICTIVE VIEW OF PROSODIC SEGMENTATION, WHICH WOULD RELY MORE ON THE INNER COHERENCE OF THE STRESS UNIT, AND WHICH WOULD DEFINE THE STRESS AS A CONFIGURATIVE PHENOMENON

Texto completoThe French language uses, in its written shape, acute, grave and circumflex accents. These small graphic symbols knew numerous events before prevailing in our spelling. They occupied different uses, inspired by their usage with Greek and Latin grammarians. Then the French Academy gradually integrated them into its dictionaries and each of them was attributed one or several specific roles. Nowadays, accents seem to be in the process of disappearance, not only in handwriting but also on printed documents or screens. The author of this work wanted to try to understand why accents were neglected, forgotten or deformed. He notices that French people have a real affection for these signs which, while preserving an important phonetic role, are also remnants that tell us the long adventure of a word

Texto completoOn the basis of generally accepted idea "The word stress in Persian is final. ", and through an experimental and original study on the read speech, I wanted to know reality of accentuation in Persian : the acoustic nature of the stressed sylable (according to the parameters such as the fundamental frequency and the duration), its function in the simple sentence, and to check if the accent into Persan is fixed. To arrive for this purpose, I based on two shutter. 1. Production 2. Perception. My results of prosodic analysis, as well as the tests of perception revealed that thé accent in Persian is rather a stressing : a process generated by prosodico-syntactic congruence. The stressed syllable into Persian is prominent, as much from the acoustic point of view that perceptive, and according to its place in the sentence: prone noun phrase, object, and verb
