Resumen
The tick Boophilus microplus contains a nucleoside phosphate-hydrolysing enzyme which, in many respects, resembles the well characterized 5'-nucleotidase from mammalian tissue. The tick enzyme has been purified to homogeneity. It is a membrane-bound glycoprotein with an apparent Mr of 67,000 and, although it fails to hydrolyse a range of nucleoside 2'- or 3'-monophosphates, it has broad specificity for the 5' derivatives. Further investigation of the enzyme's substrate specificity, however, shows some important differences from the mammalian nucleotidases. It hydrolyses both bis-p-nitrophenyl

The structure of cucurbit[6]uril (CB[6]), as a fascinating supramolecular receptor, is regarded as ‘indestructible’. Herein, we investigated the hydrolysis of CB[6] catalysed by alkali. Our results showed that CB[6] was easily hydrolysed in 30% NaOH at 160°C within 3 h. Separation and purification of hydrolytic products demonstrated the presence of NH 3 , CO 2 , HCOONa, glycine and hydantoic acid. Based on the studies of the hydrolysis of substances similar to CB[6] including 4,5-dihydroxyethyleneurea, glycoluril and glycoluril dimer, we proposed that a plausible reaction mechanism involved a

Resumen
Abstract Products of the condensation reaction between morpholine or cyclohexylamine and benzaldehydes have been used extensively as volatile inhibitors of atmospheric corrosion, as well as components of lubricant compositions, biocides and preservatives in automotive cooling liquids and fuels. In this study, we examined the relationship between the electronic structure and inhibition performance of the compounds in an atmospheric corrosion test. The condensation products have significantly lower vapor pressure than parent amines, resulting in longer residence times of inhibitor species at a m

Resumen
Abstract In order to evaluate corrosion behavior in oil and gas field conditions, it is important to simulate the corrosion condition in a laboratory test. The parameters for indicating the severity of corrosion, partial pressure of hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide, temperature, concentration of chloride ions, and pH of the solution should be taken into consideration. Among these parameters, pH of the solution is a controlling variable that can fluctuate during the test. To minimize pH fluctuation, test methods using a buffer system are widely adopted. Resumen
The sol-gel transition of tetra-coordinated spirosilicate via hydrolysis and condensation under acidic and basic conditions is examined to elucidate the effect of catalyst, reaction time and temperature on the properties of obtained gel. The main advantage of this process is the low temperature employed, producing a solid network with a high specific surface area. FTIR spectroscopy and TGA analysis were used to characterize the formation of siloxane bonds (Si-O-Si). It is found that spirosilicate can be hydrolyzed under both acid and base catalyzed conditions. The condensation rate to silicate

Resumen
At the beginning of this project, it was clear that R. albus adhered tightly to cellulose and its efficient degradation of this polysaccharide was dependent on micromolar concentrations of phenylacetic acid (PAA) and phenylpropionic acid (PPA). The objectives for our research were: i) to identify how many different kinds of cellulose binding proteins are produced by Ruminococcus albus; ii) to isolate and clone the genes encoding some of these proteins from the same bacterium; iii) to determine where these various proteins were located and; iv) quantify the relative importance of these proteins
