Resumen
Illegal migration is a vexing contemporary issue for the countries from which these illegal travelers originate as well as the destination countries where they hope to settle. Therefore, countries now struggle to curb illegal migration across the world. After the end of the civil war in 2009, the favorite destination of Sri Lankans planning to migrate illegally has turned out to be Australia. Attempts by people from Sri Lanka to travel to Australia illegally have turned out to be a veritable phenomenon in recent years. This is mainly attributed to certain causes and trends that have prompted people to make attempts to reach Australia illegally. The research problem of this study is to figure out why people try to migrate to Australia by illegal means. The main objective of this study is to propose a feasible solution to mitigate the negative impacts of illegal migration to Australia. To answer these questions, this study has used both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. In addition to the secondary data collected from written sources, 10 case studies were undertaken, in which in-depth interviews were carried out using open-ended and unstructured questions. Discourse analysis and phenomenological data analysis tools were used to analyze the data. Findings of the research showed that a variety of causes, such as poor economic prospects, social problems, and political marginalization, were responsible for the increasing trend towards illegal migration to other countries. This study also found a paradigm shift in the illegal migration of Sri Lankans from Australia to New Zealand.

Resumen
Illegal hunting of wildlife by community members abutting African protected areas contributes to unsustainable use of wildlife, resulting in significant declines in wildlife populations. Contemporary intervention measures have largely been ineffective, leading to pervasive and persistent illegal hunting. Such illegal hunting of wildlife is partly exacerbated by poor understanding of what motivates people to hunt illegally. Applying a scoping review approach, this study aims at developing concepts for drivers of illegal hunting and how they influence illegal hunting behaviour by local hunters living in or adjacent to African protected areas. A total of 30 publications were included for review analysis from 1014 publications retrieved using data base searches on Google Scholar and ScienceDirect. The study identified 12 proximate and five underlying drivers, which were categorised into 10 thematic drivers of illegal hunting by local hunters. The need for survival and sustaining livelihoods was conceptualised as the key thematic driver of illegal hunting by local hunters. The study represents a novel work of conceptualising drivers of illegal hunting by local hunters with implications on the persistence of illegal hunting in Africa.

Resumen
Illegal migration from China is contrasted to that from Vietnam to highlight Hong Kong's unique place in such flows. Political upheavals in China, economic recessions and labor shortages in Hong Kong have caused waves of legal and illegal Chinese migration into Hong Kong which have been effectively contained through the vigilance of border patrols, police checks for identity cards, fines on employers of illegals, and cooperation from China. The increased numbers of Vietnamese boat people from 1988 led to a hardening in government and public attitudes, resulting in the reclassification of refugees as illegal migrants. The key difference in Hong Kong's effectiveness at stemming these two illegal migrant streams has been bilateral cooperation, which has been achieved with China but lacking in the case of Vietnam.

Resumen
Coral reefs owned by the State of Indonesia are approximately 7000 km2 with 480 species of coral that have been successfully described and have a diversity of fish around 1,650 species of fish. Foreign fishermen who often enter Indonesian territorial waters, among others, come from Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Malaysia. Natuna waters, North Sulawesi waters are the most vulnerable area to illegal fishing activities. The vulnerability of Indonesian waters from illegal fishing activities, in addition to the fact that the water area contains the potential for large fishery resources, also because the geographical position of the Indonesian territorial waters is in international waters so that it is very open to the possibility of foreign fishermen entering Indonesian waters and fishing illegally. Illegal fishing activities still occur in Indonesian waters, despite various efforts to overcome them by the Indonesian government. This cross-border illegal activity is not only a problem for Indonesia, but also an interstate problem considering that the perpetrators and activities are transnational, and therefore, the handling must also be carried out cross-country, especially through bilateral cooperation with neighboring countries in the region where fishermen often enter Indonesian territorial waters illegally. Illegal fishing has become a global concern because this illegal activity has taken place in various regions and is considered to threaten the existence and sustainability of global marine fisheries resources if not handled seriously by the international community. In the study of international relations, illegal fishing can be categorized as a form of transnational crime, because in these illegal activities contained several aspects as included in the definition of transnational crime.

Resumen
In this digital era, the illegal distribution of intellectual property such as films has flourished especially in Indonesia. Indonesian citizens are also one of the main problems in digital piracy, as most of them still use illegal streaming sites to watch movies on. This research aims to analyze the causes of the culture of watching movies illegally, the constant emergence of illegal streaming sites, the efforts made to combat this phenomenon, and to give the solutions that might help in reducing this phenomenon. After analyzing several articles on this subject, three main causes of watching movies illegally have been identified, they are: watching movies for free, lack of awareness in intellectual property, and the ineffective efforts made by the government to combat illegal streaming sites. Solutions gained from this research are to implement education programs to educational institutes early on to raise a future generation with a better awareness. A collaboration between the Indonesian government, local telecommunications service providers, and official movie streaming platforms could be proposed to help combat piracy by reducing costs to watch a movie legally. Lastly, a piracy detection tool could be implemented to help the government in blocking any illegal streaming sites

Resumen
Forests are the lungs of the earth that contribute to environmental balance. In practice, the enforcement of environmental law through various regulations, such as Forestry Law, has brought both positive and negative impacts. This study aims to find out the regulations on illegal logging and to identify the effectiveness of law enforcement on illegal logging based on the value of justice. This study was conducted in Kuningan District Regional Government, Ciremai Mountain National Park (TNGC), Kuningan District Forestry Service, Kuningan District Court, Kuningan District Police Office, and Kuningan District Prosecutors Office. This qualitative study applied an empirical juridical or socio-legal approach in order to find data relating to law enforcement on illegal logging as well as preventive and repressive actions based on justice values carried out by law enforcement officials in Kuningan District. The results showed that Illegal logging is regulated in Law No. 41 of 1999 concerning Forestry and Law No. 18 of 2013 concerning Prevention and Eradication of Forests Destruction as well as the Supreme Court Circular No. 01 of 2008 concerning Guidelines for Handling Forestry Criminal Cases. Yet, there is no Kuningan District regulation that specifically regulates illegal logging. Further, the effectiveness of law enforcement on illegal logging in Kuningan District can be seen in terms of its legal substance, structure and culture.Efektivitas Penegakan Hukum Illegal Logging Berbasis Nilai KeadilanHutan merupakan paru paru dunia yang berkontribusi terhadap keseimbangan lingkungan. Almzmomi, Aabed Hameed M. "Strategies to secure sea ports against terrorism, illegal trading and illegal migration." Thesis, University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10443/1370.

Resumen
This study focuses on maritime security and illegal actions that take place at sea which can evolve into international conflicts and disputes. The field of maritime security entails the comprehensive confrontation of illegal actions such as maritime piracy, maritime terrorism, illegal trade of drugs and arms, plunder and environmental crimes. This study will focus on the ports of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and will look at ways to achieve security and stability of the country’s maritime transportation sector. The study concentrates mainly on three issues: maritime terrorism, illegal trade and illegal immigration. Terrorism has increased, especially after the events of 9/11, and terrorists are using new methods to attack civilians and governments all over the world. The study concentrates on the danger of terrorism in seaports and sets out a strategy to confront it. Illegal trade is considered one of the most dangerous international crimes and all countries of the world suffer from the trafficking of drugs and arms. KSA is no exception. It suffers from these crimes across its maritime and territorial borders. Thus, it is important to tackle this crime via a security strategy for protecting Saudi ports. KSA also suffers from a high level of illegal immigration across its maritime and territorial borders, mainly from neighbouring countries such as Yemen, Somalia and Iraq. Illegal migrants are usually searching for work and a better life. The study tries to find new methods to solve the problems of maritime terrorism, illegal trade and illegal immigration at large ports. Securing the coasts of KSA, which stretch 2000 km along both the Red Sea and the Arab Gulf, is an important matter, XIII especially nowadays with the spread of terrorist attacks due to international political and religious conflicts. The geographical location of KSA is considered a huge obstacle to the successful securing of its ports and coasts, as KSA is surrounded by 13 countries. Some of these countries are very poor in terms of their economy and security level. There are also several political conflicts surrounding KSA, and every year thousands of migrants try to enter KSA looking for work or trying to perform religious pilgrimage. In addition, many methods are used for the trade of drugs, explosives and arms. All these issues are tackled in the study with the aim of setting a strategy for the protection of Saudi ports. The researcher uses a questionnaire to obtain data from Saudi borders guards in order to recognize the role of these forces in protecting Saudi ports. At the end the researcher reaches conclusions and makes important recommendations for the KSA government to consider, for example: Saudi authorities may wish to approve the strategy suggested by the researcher to protect Saudi ports from maritime terrorism, illegal trade and illegal immigration using the latest technology. KSA must further develop and activate this security strategy. Saud Arabia should use advanced technology systems for monitoring and protecting ports, especially pilotless planes (UAVs) to monitor the coasts.

Resumen
Singapore is a country built entirely by migrants. The topic of migration thus forms a very important part of the history of Singapore, in which much research has been done. However, one aspect of the modern migration history of Singapore has not been wellstudied, and that is illegal immigration. Since centuries ago, people have been smuggled on the very waterways that modern Singapore owes its prosperity to. Today, people are still entering and exiting the country clandestinely using the same waterways. However, as technology develops, the methods by which these people use to enter Singapore clandestinely are constantly changing. Regardless of the change in methods, such clandestine migration often involves great danger and hardship for those who dare to embark on the journey, just as the way it was in the past. This is even more so as Singapore turns from a colony to an independent country, and as the independent government increasingly exercises more control on the type of immigrants it allows into its borders to help take the country to greater heights in terms of prosperity. Immigration policies and laws thus become fine-tuned and people who are deemed ??undesirable?? are filtered out. The strict laws did not, however, deter some people from entering the country in search of a good job and a better life. As Singapore gears itself to receive more legal migrants, it must also be prepared to take measures against illegal immigrants. Illegal immigration is therefore a continuous battle between the authorities and the illegal migrants. Through the use of official and unofficial documents and public resources, some of which are not easily obtainable, this thesis traces the development of illegal immigration from a historical context and explores the life of the illegal migrants in Singapore so as to fill in the gaps on an under-studied topic, as well as the change in mindsets migrants-turned-citizens have towards new migrants, in an attempt to use a historical approach to explain the issue of the social phenomenon of illegal migration to Singapore.

Hill, Jonathan. "Creative users, illegal architects." Thesis, University College London (University of London), 2000. http://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.312161.

Texto completo
Resumen
The central message of this thesis is that architecture is made by use and by design. To use a building is to alter it, by for example physically transforming it, using it in unexpected ways, or conceiving of it anew. The user can be passive, reactive or creative, whatever the character of the space he or she inhabits, but space can affect use, and each design suggests a certain user. Questioning the binary opposition of the architect and the user this thesis proposes a third entity: the creative user who can also be an 'illegal architect'. As a design strategy which recognises the creative role of the user in formulating architecture, it proposes a theory of montage in which the gaps are as important as the fragments. In contrast to traditional theories of montage, the 'montage of gaps' aims not to shock but to remain unresolved, to be remade by each user.

This study examines the impact of the risk of illegal logging on landscape permeability in a region where 8,060 km? of the total area is covered by forests. According to official data, 29% of this forested area is located in zones at risk of illegal logging. Given that forests play a crucial role in maintaining landscape permeability and ecological connectivity, the study employs the CSI index, which integrates the risk of illegal logging, to assess how these activities affect the ecological integrity and functionality of the landscape. We modelled landscape permeability in two scenarios. In the first scenario, we considered the current situation on the ground. In the second scenario, we took into account the risk of illegal logging presented by the forests in the study area. The results indicate that the risk associated with illegal logging in forested areas generates a negative impact on landscape permeability, reflected in an 11.74% reduction in areas classified as SACA 1. These findings will provide insight into the influence of the risk of illegal logging on landscape permeability and will support the development of more effective conservation strategies.

Resumen
The aim of this paper is to evaluate the effect of the on-street illegal parking on the commercial travel time of the vehicles in the area. The effect of the illegal parking in the travel time of the vehicles in the zone is analyzed in an urban scenario in order to quantify the negative impact that illegal parking implies to this, by itself, congested areas. To achieve the objective of the paper, a 3x3 street model has been designed and evaluated for different situations. In this sense, based on a traffic microsimulation model a bunch of scenarios have been considered in function of parameters referred to intensity of vehicles, illegal on street parking level and location of the illegals. Based on the scenarios mentioned, it has been analyzed the effect that the different parameters have on the commercial speed of the vehicles in order to have a first set of information that permits how to act to reduce the effect of illegal on street parking. The results obtained in this article will be able to be used in next steps in order to define direct and indirect reduction strategies referred to illegal on street parking effectDOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.4995/CIT2016.2016.3521

Resumen
This paper examines the determinants of illegal immigration in the United States from Mexico from 1976 to 1995. The main challenge in the empirical work is that the observations are not the number of individuals that attempt to enter the United States illegally, but rather the number of individuals apprehended attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border illegally. Based on a simple model of the individual migration decision, we postulate the existence of an apprehensions function, which expresses the number of apprehensions at the U.S.-Mexico border as a function of the number of illegal attempts to cross the border an the level of border-enforcement effort exerted by the U.S. government.
