This is an introduction to the special issue on the impact of neoliberalism on the sociality, politics, and governmentality of contemporary psychological life. The articles suggest that Euro-American psychology writ large has not been a force for human freedom. Still, the articles are additional evidence of the historical and current lines of resistance and activism that indicate a move toward an emancipatory psychology.

A sample of 102 college women completed a set of imagination and personality measures and reported whether they had ever had imaginary companions during childhood. Participants who reported imaginary companions scored higher than did those who did not on measures of imagination including imagery use, hostile daydreams, and vivid night dreams, and on personality scales including dependent interpersonal styles and internal-state awareness. Participant groups did not differ significantly on shyness, other interpersonal styles, or measures of self-concept. Comparison of these results with research

Resumen
Abstract Imagining is something we use everyday in our lives and in a wide variety of ways. In spite of the amount of works devoted to its study from both psychology and philosophy, there are only a few formal systems capable of modelling it; besides, almost all of those systems are static, in the sense that their models are initially predefined, and they fail to capture the dynamic process behind the creation of new imaginary scenarios. In this work, we review some influential theories of imagination and use their insights to distil an algorithm describing such process. Then, we use this algo

Considering the academic development of the psychologist as a complex process which articulates the transmission of scientific knowledge and changes in imaginative activity, we psychoanalytically investigate the collective imaginary of Psychology students regarding the first clinical consultation. We conducted a group interview with 52 undergraduate students, using the Thematic Story-Drawing Procedure as a way to open a dialogical field. The material obtained, through the psychoanalytical method, resulted in the creation/gathering of four affective-emotional meaning fields: “I came, I saw and

A first contention of this thesis is that whilst much organisation theory to date has emerged from a structural-functionalist perspective, in which rationality, congruence of aims, and the validity of the systems model were assumed, a more fruitful approach would be essentially hermeneutic, seeking to understand the meanings ascribed to organisations by those who work in them. Hermeneutics is seen as compatible with elements of post-modernism - the importance of perspective over 'fact', the suspicion of grand narratives, the decentred subject, and above all the role of language in forming cons

Imaginary audience scores for males and females have not demonstrated consistent differences in the literature. In this study, scores on the Imaginary Audience Scale (lAS) and on the Imaginary Audience subscale of the Adolescent Egocentrism-Sociocentrism scale (ABS) were compared to self-rating of gender attributes on the Personality Attributes Questionnaire (PAQ). Results for 64 females and 32 males surveyed at a southeastern university indicate that one's self-rating of gender attributes correlates with imaginary audience scores while biological gender does not. Imaginary companions (ICs) are a relatively common feature of childhood, yet the views of parents regarding their children's creation of and engagement with ICs are relatively unexplored. This study explored the attitudes of parents towards ICs and the factors that relate to variation in views. This study is comprised of two phases. Phase 1 examined the views of mothers and fathers of primary school aged children using a self-completion questionnaire. 228 mothers and 31 fathers participated. Of these 259 parents, 63 had a child with a current or previous IC and 196 had a child without an IC. P

A few studies have demonstrated differences in various personality attributes and creative abilities in children with imaginary companions. This study examined how recalled childhood engagement with an imaginary companion correlates with adult personality and creativity measures. It was hypothesized that creation of childhood imaginary companions would be positively correlated with adult creativity, but that this relationship would be mediated by certain personality attributes such as openness to experiences and extraversion. Other details of the imaginary companion experiences were also inves

Many explanations of young adolescent behavior are based on processes specific to young adolescents. This implies adults and other organisms do not exhibit behaviors exhibited by young adolescents. Based on Tolman's model of purposive behavior, young adolescents are argued to follow the same behavioral patterns as other beings. Young adolescents are argued to be hypersensitive to their social environment, as indicated by the imaginary audience, but based on a different rationale. Further, it is argued that adolescents may take great risks, but not due to false perceptions of invulnerability. B

Section A provides a critical review of the literature pertinent to children’s imaginary companions, including definitional issues, historical background, and prevalence. Empirical research concerning the characteristics of children who create imaginary companions is presented, followed by an overview of theories attempting to explain the development and functions of imaginary companions. Empirical research investigating the functions of imaginary companions in normative populations is then reviewed, followed by research into the imaginary companions of children from clinical populations.

In the present article we explore the conceptualizations of the notion ‘Imaginary’ and its manifestations, involving a progressive rediscovery of both collective and individual imaginaries towards and within the context of digital culture(s). The key terms outlining the analysis include imagination, the imaginary, collective imaginary, social imaginary, identity, culture, and society. These conceptual frameworks shape the investigation across three primary directions: (1) imagination versus imaginary, collective and individual imaginary, (2) the social imaginary, encompassing conceptions, visi
