Magister Psychologiae - MPsych<br>We live in a society that continually reinforces the connection between femininity and maternity and for the majority of women, attempts to experience motherhood are successful. However, for others the world of motherhood is not so easy to enter. To date, research regarding the needs and life satisfaction of women who are unsuccessful in becoming mothers, is fairly limited. Resumen
The negative psychological impact of infertility and resultant stress inherent in the treatment of fertility problems is well documented in the research literature (Greil, 1997). Disclosing emotional reactions to stressful and traumatic experiences through writing has been shown to have beneficial effects on psychological well-being in healthy students and clinical populations (Frattaroli, 2006; Smyth, 1998). The principal aim of this thesis was to examine the efficacy of a written emotional disclosure intervention for individuals with infertility. However, initially the potential moderating e

The number of women diagnosed as infertile continues to grow every year. The psychological impact of the infertility experience has been said to create distress equivalent to that associated with life-threatening illnesses and has been linked with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Using shattered assumption and stress-buffering theory, this quantitative causal comparative study explored the potential functional relationship between infertility and PTSD. The majority of the (all-female) participants were 24- to 34-year-old college graduates. A 2 X 3 factorial between-subjects ANOVA examined

Resumen
This study uses a cross sectional survey design to explore the illness representations, coping strategies and levels of psychological morbidity of patients planning IVF treatments. The aim was to develop a theoretical understanding, within the framework of the self-regulation model, of the factors which predict anxiety and depression in this group. Fifty patients completed a demographic questionnaire, the Illness Perception Questionnaire, the COPE and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Chance, stress and age were the most commonly endorsed causal factors. Those without a diagnosis were
