FN’ fødevareprogram World Food Programme ønskede en forbedret informationsarkitektur. Artiklen beskriver et casestudie hvor WFP’s information- og vidensstyring undersøges herunder analyse af brugernes (WFP’s medarbejderes og -frivilliges) søgninger og WFP’s informationsarkitektur generelt. I artiklen præsenteres en række metoder til at identificere problemerne i organisationen. Resultaterne viser, at udviklingen og implementeringen af en fælles taksonomi kan minimere ulemperne ved navigation og søgning efter information og dokumenter vha. de etablerede søgemaskiner. Konklusionen er, at der dels skal udvikles en emneordsliste, der sikrer en ensartet terminologi i hovedkvarteret og på samtlige landekontorer, og dels at der skal udvikles et system af synonymringe, der gør informationssøgning langt mere effektiv. For at sikre den fremtidige effekt af disse tiltag anbefales det, at der udnævnes en person med centralt ansvar samt en række lokale eksperter, taksonomi champions, til fortsat at udvikle og vedligeholde informationsarkitekturen. De sidstnævnte anbefalinger er blevet implementeret af WFP.

Denne artikel undersøger et nyt fænomen på Internettet, der kaldes folksonomier. Ordet folksonomi er en sammentrækning af folk, et fællesskab af mennesker, og taksonomi. En folksonomi er en samling ukontrollerede emneord (tags), som brugerne af en dokumentsamling selv tildeler dokumenterne for at kunne genfinde dem. Folksonomier adskiller fra traditionelle taksonomier ved ikke at være styret autorativt, men derimod reguleret af gruppen af brugere i fællesskab. Brugerne tildeler frit tags til informations objekter (brugerne indekserer), og disse tags udgør, sammen med andre brugeres tags, en folksonomi. Et tag adskiller sig yderligere fra emneord i traditionelle taksonomier, ved ikke at være hierarkisk organiseret, men i stedet sideordnet. Folksonomier er opstået som en del af internetbaserede sociale teknologier, som samlet populært kaldes web 2.0. Derfor eksemplificeres folksonomier og collaborative tagging i artiklen af en internetbaseret service, del.icio.us, der er et online værktøj til indeksering og organisering af Internetbogmærker. Artiklen undersøger og diskuterer folksonomiers potentiale i forhold til en organisations formelle informationsarkitektur. Der gives i artiklen en oversigt over undersøgelser indenfor emnet. Det er især anvendeligheden af tags i forhold til kontrollerede emneord som er i fokus i artiklen.

The purpose of this thesis is to examine the usability of internet services for health treatments. The purpose of this study is to investigate how to improve the usability on Internet-based platforms to enhance the user experience around these systems. This, by examining the e-service 1177 as an example of such services, by using theories and previous research. Theories and methods that are dealt with are based on the literature regarding usability on web-based websites. Previous research suggests that usability is essential on similar platforms that offers online treatments. The data collection was done using a qualitative data collection method called think aloud. This data collection is used as user cases. By analyzing the content of the web applications' different pages and functions, development suggestions in the form of guidelines are generated on how to improve the current stage of similar e-services. This thesis is intended to create a foundation with guidelines for other organizations profiling themselves for onlinetreatments. The conclusion is that several components should be improved for enhancing the usability on such platforms.

Trots nationella lagar baserade på internationella tillgänglighetsriktlinjer visar rapporter att myndigheters webbplatser inte är tillgängliga för användare med funktionsnedsättning. Riktlinjerna för webbtillgänglighet i Sverige bygger på internationella standarden WCAG 2.0, nivå AA samt uppfyllnad av punkterna; ”Språket är enkelt och begripligt” och ”Navigeringen har en tydlig och överskådlig struktur”. Utifrån studier som har identifierat problem som inte kan kopplas till riktlinjer i den internationella standarden för webbtillgänglighet(WCAG 2.0) argumenteras för att tillgänglighetsarbetet behöver inkluderas redan under utvecklingsprocesserna. Arbete kring utformningen av en webbplats navigation och sitestruktur faller under metoder och principer inom informationsarkitekturen. I denna uppsats redogörs för en studie vilken undersökt hur synskadade användares definition av användbara navigationsstrukturer förhåller sig till metoder och principer inom informationsstrukturen. Under studien skapades fördjupad kunskap kring användargruppens beteende, användning av strategier samt preferenser för navigationens utformning. Data samlades in genom en användarstudie baserad på metoderna för deltagande observation och kvalitativ intervju. Det insamlade materialet från studien analyserades genom kvalitativa analyser och utfördes i två delar. Den första analysen behandlade användarnas beteenden och upplevelser och sammanfattades i ett antal teman vilka representerar användarnas upplevelser, preferenser samt användning av strategier. I ett andra steg analyserades hur användarnas förhållningssätt överensstämmer med metoder och principer inom informationsarkitekturen.Resultatet visar på ett antal aspekter vilka bör beaktas vid tillämpning av metoder och principer för utveckling av webbplatsers navigation och informationsarkitektur. Benämningar på rubriker och länkar är viktiga för att skapa översikt och navigera. Transformation av länklistor samt listornas placering i förhållande till övriga element har betydelse för navigeringens upplevda effektivitet. Användarna förlitar sig vidare på konventionellaplaceringar av navigationselement. De föredrar att söka (searching) framför att leta (browsing). En stor mängd information och/eller grafiska element samt användarens mentala modell påverkar informationssökningens upplevda effektivitet. Ovan nämna aspekter har analyserats i förhållande till metoder och principer inom informationsarkitekturen och har identifierats påverka följande. Vilka element som ska ses som ett navigationssystem bör utvidgas och navigationssystemens komponenter bör fungera utanför sin kontext. Namngivning och benämningar har visat sig ha extra stor påverkan på interaktionen och bör formas för att stödja auditiv scanning. En ökad mental belastning påverkar formen på användarens mentala modell och arbetsminnet kapacitet. Söksystemen används ofta och i stor utsträckning för att snabba upp informationssökningen. Studien visar även att navigationsstresstestet inte är en tillförlitlig metod för att utvärdera synskadade användares upplevelser, preferenser och användning av strategier.
Despite national laws based on the international standards for accessibility reports shows that government websites aren’t accessible for disabled users. Guidelines for web accessibility in Sweden are based on the international standard WCAG 2.0, level AA of conformance which includes simple and understandable language and clear and easy overview of the navigation. Based on previous studies that identified problems thatcan’t be extracted from guidelines from the international standard (WCAG 2.0) argues that the web accessibility needs to be included earlier during the development process. The work behind the websites navigation and site structure falls under the methods and principles of information architecture. In this thesis, a study regarding how visually impaired user’s definition of usable navigation structures relate to methods and principles of information architecture will be presented. The study deepened the knowledge of the user groups behavior, use of strategies and preferences for navigations design. Data was collected during a user study based on participation observations and qualitative interview. The collected material from the study was compiled during qualitative analysis and was divided in two parts. The first analysis was focused on the user’s experiences and preferences and was summarized as a collection of themes. During the next stage the themes were analyzed in connection with the methods and principles of information architecture.The result indicates aspects that should be considered when practice methods and principles during the development of websites navigation and information architecture. Labels on heading and links are important to overview and navigate. Transformation of list of links and the placement of the lists in regard to other elements have impact on the experience of the navigation. The users follow conventions when searching for navigation elements. They prefer searching before browsing. Large amount of information, graphical elements and the mental model have an impact on information seeking as well as the effectiveness. The previous findings have been analyzed in connection with the methods and principles of information architecture and the following are considered important. Navigation systems should be expanded and designed to work outside it’s context. Names and labels have a great impact on the interaction and should be design to support scanning with the ears. Increased mental load affect the shape of the mental model and the capacity of theworking memory. Search systems are used often and are used to speed up the information seeking process. Lastly, the result indicated that the navigation stress test is not reliable as an evaluation method for visually impaired users and should not be used to evaluate the use of strategies, the user experience and user’s preferences.

The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to examine the usabilityof Oatly.com, using qualitative as well as quantitative methodswithin usercentereddesign and information architecture, inorder to propose ways of developing and improving it. Byanalyzing the content of the website’s home page, andcomparing it to the home pages of similar websites usingcompetitive benchmarking, suggestions are made on how toimprove the home page of the website, along with results fromcontextual inquiries carried out using participants representingthe company’s target group. The methods used are followedout from a usability perspective, and are focused on the needsand preferences of the target group. The conclusion reached inthis thesis suggests that the overall quality of Oatly.com iswell thought out and adjusted to appeal to the desired targetgroup. However suggestions are made on how the website canbe adjusted and improved in order to appeal to the targetaudience, as well as ways for Oatly to continue the assessmentand analysis of how to continually evolve and improve thewebsite. The suggestions for development of the websiteinclude adding a search function, adding significant content tothe productandcontact pages, adding content which explainsto the user how the company’s products can be utilized, aswell as changing the current utilization of the slider on thehome page.

Förmedling av information inom en organisation är en viktig del för att det dagliga arbetet ska fungera. Rätt person ska få rätt information på rätt sätt. Vår undersökning syftar till att visa hur en informationsarkitektur som utformas utifrån användarnas behov kan förbättra en verksamhets informationsförmedling. Genom en fallstudie på Länstrafiken i Örebro undersöktes vad för information dess användare vill ha och hur de vill ha den. Frågorna som undersökningen ämnar besvara är:   -          På vilket sätt kan ett användbarhetsperspektiv leda till en förbättrad informationsarkitektur? -          Hur optimeras informationsförmedlingen med en användarcentrerad informationsarkitektur?   En användarcentrerad informationsarkitektur utformas utifrån användarnas behov. För att besvara frågeställningarna användes teorier om användbarhet och Zachman’s ramverk vilket beskriver informationsarkitektur utifrån sex olika frågor. I studien användes två av dessa frågor för att ta fram artefakter till en informationsarkitektur: Var och Hur. I första steget av undersökningen togs hur informationsarkitekturen ser ut idag fram utifrån kvalitativa intervjuer med de anställda. Därefter utformades en enkät för verksamhetens kunder för att ta reda på vad för slags information de vill ha, och hur de vill ha den. Utifrån svaren från enkäterna samt intervjuerna kunde en mer användarcentrerad informationsarkitektur tas fram. Användbarhet kan således påverka informationsarkitekturen positivt genom att låta fokus ligga på de som är involverade i hur information ska förmedlas. Då rätt information på snabbast sätt kommer genom rätt informationskanal så kan informationsförmedlingen optimeras.
Distribution of information within an organization is an important part of the daily working routine. It is important that the right information in the right way. Our study aims to show how usability in information architecture can help a business to improve the way of provide information. Through a case study at Länstrafiken in Örebro it was investigated what kind of information the users want and how they want it distributed. The questions the study aims to answer are: -          How can a usability perspective lead to improved information architecture? -          How can the flow of information optimize with a usable information architecture? A useful information architecture is designed based on user needs. To answer the questions we used theories of usability and Zachman's framework, which describes information architecture based on six different issues. The study used two of these issues in order to develop artefacts to form an information architecture: Where and How. The first step in the study was to establish how the information architecture looks today based on qualitative interviews with employees at Länstrafiken. As a second step a questionnaire was designed for the company's customers to find out what kind of information they are interested in and how they want it distributed. Based on the responses from the respondents and the employees an information architecture with usability was developed. Usability can therefore affect the information architecture positive by letting the focus be on those who are involved in how information is being communicated. When the correct information goes through the right information channel in the most effective way the way of communicate the information gets optimized.

Luftstridsskolan upplever problem med deras digitala resurser eftersom de saknar överblick och vet inte hur studerande använder dessa. Infor- mationsarkitektur är ett område som bemöter dessa problem och dess metodiska ramverk kommer i detta arbete att användas för att kartlägga resurser, se hur dessa används och slutligen skapa en ny struktur att pre- sentera resurserna i.

Föreliggande arbete ämnade undersöka hur mentala modeller kan stödjas i en informationsarkitektur i ett administratörsgränssnitt (specifikt för systemet Phoniro Care) samt ta fram riktlinjer för fortsatt och framtida design. Arbetet utfördes i samarbete med företaget Phoniro med målet att anpassa installationsprocessen för larmmodulen i systemet Phoniro Care till användare i verksamheten. Genom designprocessen tillämpades ett användarcentrerat arbetssätt genom metodik såsom kontextuella observationer, card sorting och deltagande design. Utifrån detta framkom resultatet att användarnas mentala modeller av systemet motsvarade en hierarkisk struktur med grupperingar. Ytterligare resultat var ett flöde för installationsprocessen. Med detta som grund bildades en ny informationsarkitektur som visualiserades med stöd från data samt designprinciper. Den visuella designen som skapades anses kunna fungera som ett underlag för framtida arbete med utformningen liksom de dokumenterade designmål och designbeslut som tagits genom arbetets gång.

User Experience plays a big part in web design. A bad UX can lead to users not finding what they´re looking for, or not understanding how to use the website. This study uses fou rmethods to examine User Experience on the website hagabadet.se. It starts of with a survey and a contextual inquiry to generate data that will show the main issues of the website. From the result of the two studies, two new method sare created to continue analysing the issues and to find a solution to them. The following methods are card sorting and CI with prototypes. These methods focus on analysing how the users want information to be structured. The result of the study show that the users need a better structure of information to find what they need, and that they are missing some important elements to be able to accomplish what they want on the website. New prototypes combined with examples are made to illustrate a development proposal that could improve the UX of the website.

Since Internet has become a more important and more certain source of information the user require greater and more demands than ever before on the layout and function of different web pages. When search engines gives us the opportunity to millions of hits in just a fraction of a second it’s essential to optimize the structure and architecture, which forms the foundations of all the content. In a time when a company’s digital footprint plays an important role for the costumer and the transmitter it’s of utmost importance to have a steady, well-structured foundation to build new platforms of information on. But how do you manage to build a good foundation? Some of the most important key elements in Information architecture are Organizing, Navigation, Search and Labeling. The aim of this study was to create guidelines for a user-friendlier interface, by analyzing the principals and gathered data. The evaluation method for the gathering of data was interviews and usability testing. The interviews was performed on some of the employees of Ostnor AB and documented by audio recording. The usability testing was performed on four users, unfamiliar to the information and storage bank system of the case, and where documented by eye tracking. The guidelines, which were developed, showed that the company have to focus on one platform, consistency on the websites and a implementation of a search system. The result of the study shows that there should be one shared platform managing all the information and images on the sites, so the user could easily find the right information without having to navigate through multiple sites. The results also shows the importance of consistent design of reoccuring elements within the platforms to increase the user recognition on the site. It is also evident that a search system should be implemented to increase the user recognition on the site. This thesis aims to discuss how an information system and its users may adapt to each other. The main discussion is how to create an information system that is adaptable without losing its organising properties. The thesis uses a holistic approach to the topic and the areas being dealt with are information architecture, interactive information retrieval and information searching. The practical work consisted of constructing a database for Autoliv’s Research and Development branch. The Research and Development branch also served as the population for a questionnaire in information searching, which was performed to collect empirical findings prior to developing the database. The results showed that pearl growing was the most commonly used search strategy and free text searches were performed if the user was previously unfamiliar with the requested documents. Relevance was judged from author, context and abstract. The outcome of the questionnaire was discussed with regard to the literature, where certain empirical findings were confirmed. Practical issues were discussed concerning the questionnaire and the literature. The conclusion drawn is that the construction of an information system that proved to be useful from an organising perspective and an information searcher’s point of view was a question of superiority/inferiority of accessing the system. In other words, would the organising properties be more important and therefore superior, or would the interface and search engine be of more importance? Whether the information system should serve the user or if the user should serve the system depends on the purpose with the information system.
