The relevance of the topic considered in the article is to solve the problems of designing management decision support systems for enterprises based on business analytics technology. The research purpose is to analyze the applied methodologies during the design stage of the enterprise information system, to develop principles for using management decision support systems based on business intelligence. The problem statement is to analyze the technologies available on the market, which deal with business analyst systems, their potential use for decision support systems, and to identify the main stages of business analyst for enterprises. Business intelligence (BI) is information that can be obtained from data contained in the operational systems of a firm, enterprise, corporation, or from external sources. The BI can help the management of a company make the best decision in the chosen sphere of human activity faster, and, consequently, win the competition in the market for goods and services. A decision support system (DSS) which uses business intelligence, is an automated structure designed to assist professionals in making decisions in a complex environment and to objectively analyze a subject area. The decision support system is the result of the integration of management information systems and database management systems (DBMS). The internal development of BI is more cost-effective. The methods used are Structured Analysis and Design Technique and Object-oriented methods. The results of the research: the analysis of the possibilities was conducted and recommendations relating to the use of BI within DSS were given. Competition between BI software in business analysts reduces the cost of products created making them accessible to end-users – producers, traders and corporations.

Abstract The paper deals with the development and application of computer-aided standardisation (CAS) for the distribution of standardisation data of production and maintenance processes within the company network. Rising integration pressure of company software tools also include CAx technologies. These CAx technologies provide software solutions for different applications, being able to work closely together with ERP-systems, Business Intelligence (BI) tools and further systems. The possibility of integration makes it also feasible to look on the CAS tool and its potential. While CAS is a topic not yet fully discussed, future development may lead to the requirement of integrating the CAS with the ERP and planning system. Sistem penunjang keputusan menggunakan business intelligence ini menggunakan tool pengolahan dari microsoft yaitu sql server integration services (SSIS) dan sql server reporting services (SSRS). Business Intelligenci juga dapat membantu sebuah UMKM atau organisasi untuk mendapatkan pengetahuan yang jelas mengenai faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kinerja organisasi sehingga dapat membantu organisasi dalam pengambilan keputusan serta sekaligus meningkatkan keunggulannya (competitive advantage). Business Intelligenci juga dapat membantu suatu organisasi dalam menganalisis perubahan tren yang terjadi sehingga akan membantu organisasi menentukan strategi yang diperlukan dalam mengantisipasi perubahan tren tersebut. penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan hasil dashboard atau report yang nantinya akan digunakan sebagai bahan pengambilan keputusan. penelitian ini dilakukan pada UMKM di Gunung Putri Kab. Bogor. sumber data diperoleh dari sistem lama atau dari user kemudian diolah dengan sistem baru. hasil antara report sistem baru dan sistem lama kemudian dibandingkan menggunakan software spss untuk melihat presentase perbedaan nilainya.

Articicial intelligence is a new science that deals with the representation, automatic acquisition, and use of knowledge. Artificial intelligence programs attempt to emulate human thought processes such as deduction, inference, language, and visual recognition. The goal of artificial intelligence is to make computers more useful for reasoning, planning, acting, and communicating with humans. Development of artificial intelligence applications involves the integration of advanced computer science, psychology, and sometimes robotics. Of the subfields that artificial intelligence can be broken into, the one of most immediate interest to forest management is expert systems. Expert systems involve encoding knowledge usually derived from an expert in a narrow subject area and using this knowledge to mimic his decision making. The knowledge is represented usually in the form of facts and rules, involving symbols such as English words. At the core of these systems is a mechanism that automatically searches for and pieces together the facts and rules necessary to solve a specific problem. Small expert systems can be developed on common microcomputers using existing low-cost commercial expert shells. Shells are general expert systems empty of knowledge. The user merely defines the solution structure and adds the desired knowledge. Larger systems usually require integration with existing forestry data bases and models. Their development requires either the relatively expensive expert system development tool kits or the use of one of the artificial intelligence development languages such as lisp or PROLOG. Large systems are expensive to develop, require a high degree of skill in knowledge engineering and computer science, and can require years of testing and modification before they become operational. Expert systems have a major role in all aspects of Canadian forestry. They can be used in conjunction with conventional process models to add currently lacking expert knowledge or as pure knowledge-based systems to solve problems never before tackled. They can preserve and accumulate forestry knowledge by encoding it. Expert systems allow us to package our forestry knowlege into a transportable and saleable product. They are a means to ensure consistent application of policies and operational procedures. There is a sense of urgency associated with the integration of artificial intelligence tools into Canadian forestry. Canada must awaken to the potential of this technology. Such systems are essential to improve industrial efficiency. A possible spin-off will be a resource knowledge business that can market our forestry knowledge worldwide. If we act decisively, we can easily compete with other countries such as Japan to fill this niche. A consortium of resource companies, provincial resource agencies, universities, and federal government laboratories is required to advance this goal.

In the German healthcare industry, Business Intelligence systems play a crucial role. For one major health insurance company (discussed here as an alias - AK Healthcare), the deployment of Business Intelligence applications has supported sustained growth in turnover and market share in the past five years. In this article, these tools are classified within an appropriate conceptual framework which encompasses the organisation's information infrastructure and associated processes. Different components of the framework are identified and examples are given - systems infrastructure, data provision/access control, the BI tools and technologies themselves, report generation, and information users. The use and integration of Business Intelligence tools in the strategy development process is then analyzed. Finally, the key functions and features of these tools for strategic knowledge management are discussed. Research findings encompass system access, report characteristics, and end-users profiles and capabilities.

AbstractThe purpose of this paper is to review the use of knowledge-based systems and artificial intelligence (AI) in business. Part I of this paper provided a broad survey of the use of AI in business, summarizing the application of AI in a number of business domains. In addition, it also provided a summary of the use of different forms of knowledge representation in business applications. Part I has a large set of references, including a number of survey papers, focusing on AI in business. Part II of this paper consists of more detailed analysis of particular systems or issues affecting AI in business. It examines technical issues which are central to the construction of business AI systems, and it also examines the commercial contribution made by methods for the development of AI systems. In addition, part II looks at integration between AI and more traditional information systems. AI can be used to add value to many existing information systems, such as database management systems. Particular attention is given to the integration of AI with operations research, which is the one of the primary “competitors” of AI, providing an alternative set of support tools for decision making.Business organizations are not concerned only with technology issues; there is also concern about the impact of AI on organizations. Further, the evaluation of AI often is based on an economic view of the world. Part II therefore investigates the organizational impact of AI, and the economics of AI, including issues such as value creation. The format of Part II is as follows: Section 8 analyses techniques for improving the performance of AI systems, thus maximizing economic return. Section 9 looks at different forms of uncertainty and ambiguity which must be dealt with by AI systems. It examines the contributions of fuzzy logic and numerical measures of certainty to handling these problems. Section 10 examines the usefulness of different approaches to knowledge acquisition in business situations, and investigates the benefits of methodological approaches to AI applications. It also looks at more recent AI programming techniques which eliminate the need for knowledge elicitation from an expert: neural networks, case-based reasoning and genetic algorithms are discussed. Sections 11 and 12 examine issues of integrating AI systems. Generally, the use of AI in business settings must ultimately be integrated with the broader base of corporate information systems. Section 11 looks at integration with information systems in general, and section 12 looks particularly at integration with operations research. Sections 13 and 14 review the organizational and economic impact of AI. Finally, section 15 provides a brief summary of part II.

The disruption has been occurring in financial services. Rethinking new strategy of banking is needed to make a sustainable competitive advantage innovation in organizations. The four types of business strategy for banks are prospector, analyzer, defender, and reactor. Studies mentioned that formulating strategy is very costly, time consuming, and comprehensive analysis. The banks have to get rid of execution time inefficiency, lack of flexibility, and lack of ability to present several scenarios in the dynamic business environment. The purpose of this study is to present an integrated intelligence algorithm for estimating strategic resources of the bank strategy in Indonesia. The algorithm has two basic modules which are artificial neural network (ANN) and analytical hierarchy process (AHP). ANN is utilized as an inductive algorithm in discovering predictive strategy of the bank and used to explain the strategic resources which improved in forward. AHP has the capability to handle multi-level decision-making structure with use of expert judgments in pairwise comparison process. AHP is used to measure the weight of the resources and the score is used to determine the strategy. The empirical results indicate that ANN and AHP integration is proved to predict the business strategy of the bank. The strategy choice appropriate with the condition of bank's resources. Taking on the features of agility, intelligence, Internet and socialization in the wake of rapid expansion of global manufacture and cutthroat competition, to establish an e-intelligence maintenance system is crucial for manufacturing enterprise to reduce costs and increase profits in the global market. ABSTRACT From a stakeholder perspective, this study explores the viability of data analytics as a tool in government fraud prevention. Using an interview methodology, we analyze the implications of business intelligence and analytics fraud tools on procurement stakeholders. We find that implementing and integrating business intelligence and a fraud program streamlines processes by consolidating information and presenting data within a unique program. The functioning data analytics program increases our stakeholders' confidence level without alleviating their responsibility to perform due diligence in their management functions. Our stakeholders recognized a potential increase in workload; however, they acknowledged no perceived increase in undue administrative burden. JEL Classifications: M48. Objective – The disruption has been occurring in financial services. Thus, rethinking a new strategy for banking is needed to make a sustainable innovation in organizations. Studies mentioned that formulating strategy is a very costly, time-consuming, and comprehensive analysis. The purpose of this study is to present an integrated intelligence algorithm for estimating the bank’s strategy in Indonesia. Methodology – This study used the integration model between two modules. The algorithm has two basic modules, called Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). AHP is capable of handling a multi-level decision-making structure with the use of five expert judgments in the pairwise comparison process. Meanwhile, ANN is utilized as an inductive algorithm in discovering the predictive strategy of the bank and used to explain the strategic factors which improved in forward. Findings and Novelty – The empirical results indicate that ANN and AHP integration was proved to predict the business strategy of the bank in five scenarios. Strategy 5 was the best choice for the bank and Innovate Like Fintechs (ILF) is the most factor consideration. The strategy choice was appropriate for the condition of the bank’s factors. Organizations use Business Intelligence (BI) systems to monitor how well they are meeting their goals and objectives. Yet, very often BI systems do not include clear models of the organization’s goals or of how to measure whether they are satisfied or not. Several researchers now attempt to integrate goal models into BI systems, but there are still major challenges related to how to get access to the BI data to populate the part of the goal model (often indicators) used to assess goal satisfaction. This thesis explores a new approach to integrate BI systems with goal models. In particular, it explores the integration of IBM Cognos Business Intelligence, a leading BI tool, with an Eclipse-based goal modeling tool named jUCMNav. jUCMNav is an open source graphical editor for the User Requirements Notation (URN), which includes the Use Case Map notation for scenarios and processes and the Goal-oriented Requirement Language for business objectives. URN was recently extended with the concept of Key Performance Indicator (KPI) to enable performance assessment and monitoring of business processes. In jUCMNav, KPIs are currently calculated or modified manually. The new integration proposed in this thesis maps these KPIs to report elements that are generated automatically by Cognos based on the model defined in jUCMNav at runtime, with minimum effort. We are using IBM Cognos Mashup Service, which includes web services that enable the retrieval of report elements at the most granular level. This transformation provides managers and analysts with useful goal-oriented and process-oriented monitoring views fed by just-in-time BI information. This new solution also automates retrieving data from Cognos servers, which helps reducing the high costs usually caused by the amount of manual work required otherwise. The novel approach presented in this thesis avoids manual report generation and minimizes any contract with respect to the location of manually created reports, hence leading to better usability and performance. The approach and its tool support are illustrated with an ongoing example, validated with a case study, and verified through testing.

This thesis investigates the role of business intelligence tools (BI) in performance management activities within small to medium enterprises(SME). The purpose of this investigation is to align the features of BI tools with the performance management activities in a model that supports the roles of performance management in the targeted sector. The proposed model also considers the characteristics of SMEs by choosing the appropriate technologies to support the role of BI with regard to the limited capabilities of SMEs. In general, this research proposes a model that supports the adoption of BI tools to enhance decision making that improves performance management activities in SMEs. After identifying the influential sectors in the UK region, this investigation has targeted the wholesale industry because it is a major contributor to the national economy. In addition, the nature of the wholesale industry makes it more appropriate for the purpose of this research, to be able to generalise the results across the targeted sector. The purpose of this research is described through the research aims; these aims are 1) to encourage the use of BI tools to improve performance within the targeted sector, and 2).to remove the barriers facing wholesale SMEs when attempting to adopt BI tools. In course of this research, the accomplishment of these aims is described in a third aim, which is the principle aim of the research. This aim is to establish the basis for a new policy that encourages and promotes the adoption of BI tools in performance management activities, to enhance decision making that improves performance management within wholesale SMEs in the UK. The features of the proposed model incorporate the defined BI tools and the performance management activities with the factors that influence 1) the strengths and weaknesses of SMEs in general, 2) performance management in wholesale SMEs and 3) the adoption of BI tools. The proposed model was developed through a literature survey that identifies the critical success factors (CSFs) that influence the functions of the model, the performance management activities at the operational level of performance management, and the appropriate BI tools that enhance decision making to improve the performance management activities. The model is further validated using a quantitative questionnaire survey using to validate the model within wholesale SMEs in the UK. And finally, the practicality of the proposed model in real life situations is evaluated through an interview with a manager of a wholesale SME.

Business Intelligence (BI) is a topic that has attracted attention from both researchers and practitioners. Despite BI's promising possibilities, few organizations are able to transform BI-insights into actions. Thus, the purpose of this study was to understand: How organizations can transform BI insights into actions, and which capabilities impact this transformation. In order to obtain this understanding, a case-study was conducted. We interviewed six consultants from leading consultancy firms, and a practitioner who uses BI on a daily basis. Prior to this, the authors reviewed previous BI literature which suggests that BI needs to be combined with capabilities for employees to utilize BI. Microfoundations was used as a theoretical framework to identify important capabilities and how they relate to BI. The findings distinguished specific capabilities that impacts the ability to utilize BI. Capabilities such as communication, sponsorship, culture, and clear strategies & goals, are important in order to better take advantage of BI. The conclusions are that hard skills (e.g. technical competencies), education and experience among the employees may not be as crucial as previously thought. This is because BI-systems are becoming more intuitive and easier to use.

The current generation of conventional software productivity tools is likely to achieve at most a factor of two reduction in life-cycle costs by the early 1990s. With projected order of magnitude increases in system complexity and size, a far greater improvement (factor of 10 or higher) is needed. Significant cost reductions and qualitative improvements for many kinds of applications can be demonstrated by means of a knowledge-based integrated tool environment that both adheres to the software development standards of the software development organization and promotes rapid development of high quality knowledge-based systems and their integration within highly specialized application environmentsThis investigation has led to the construction of the (K)nowledge (I)ntegration (T)ool, an operational testbed and architectural framework for the rapid development of highly extensible artificial intelligence systems and environments that both support the conventional life-cycle paradigm and facilitate the evolution of a knowledge-based life-cycle paradigm. A knowledge-based system is a programming system characterized by the ease with which objects, the relationships between them, and higher-level concepts composed of such objects and relationships, are manipulated and presented graphically and textually. The KIT consists of: knowledge-based integrated tool environments, integrated assemblages of knowledge-based systems that possess a man-machine interface that adjusts to the needs of individual users by means of user-profile and application-specific information; and a knowledge-based based system development environment, a knowledge-based system that supports the construction and maintenance of software systems, and acts as a mechanism to improve the reliability of the software development process. This thesis describes the synthesis of these system types in the KIT.Following the KIT's successful prototyping and demonstration, it is being scaled up and incrementally developed to provide life-cycle automation capabilities for a roboticized factory of a major aerospace company. This master´s theis deals design and implementation of Business Intelligence the company of Click Credit s.r.o. The main task within the BI integration services to design and create a central register of delinquent clients which ensure data are fully consistent and could by used for futrher analysis. The first part of the thesis describes the theoretical foundations of integration and analytical services. In the second part of the thesis is analysis of the current situation and solution proposal.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Organizations are changing rapidly and within organizations, teamwork is increasing and interpersonal relationships are becoming more important. The role of leaders is also changing and emotional and interpersonal competencies are becoming the skills needed for leaders to fulfill the demands of the current workplace. Emotional intelligence is one of the few remaining areas in an organization that can be developed to make a significant impact on the bottom line. In this work, the concept of emotional intelligence as defined in the literature is explored. There is also an overview of the vast body of literature available on leadership, and what is very clear, is the sparse research available on the role that emotional competence plays as being an essential tool in the kit of the effective leader. The question about the impact that emotional intelligence and competence can have on the enhancement and development of leadership and organizational processes is then explored. The conclusion drawn is that emotional intelligence will in actual fact enhance leadership and interpersonal skills which will enable a leader to build an emotionally enhanced organization. Suggestions for future research is that empirical research is indicated to explore the assumptions made and conclusions drawn based on this literature review regarding the role that emotional intelligence plays in leadership development and effectiveness.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Organisasies gaan huidiglik deur snelle verandering. Spanwerk is besig om toe te neem en interpersoonlike verhoudings raak meer en meer belangrik binne organisasies. Die rol van leiers is ook besig om te verander en emosionele en interpersoonlike vaardighede raak toenemend die vaardighede wat deur leiers benodig word om aan die eise van die huidige werkplek te voldoen. Emosionele intelligensie is een van die min areas wat oorbly binne organisasies wat nog ontgin en ontwikkel kan word ten einde 'n beduidende impak te maak op winsgewendheid. Die konsep van emosionele intelligensie soos gedefinieer in die literatuur, is in die werk ekploreer. 'n Oorsig van die magdom literatuur beskikbaar oor leierskap is ook gedoen. Wat duidelik blyk uit die literatuur oorsig, is die geringe literatuur beskikbaar oor die rol wat emosionele vaardighede speel as een van essensiële vaardighede van leierskap. Die vraag oor die impak van emosionele intelligensie en vaardighede op leierskap en die mate waartoe dit leierskap en die effek daarvan op organisatoriese prosesse kan verbeter, is ondersoek. Die gevolgtrekking waartoe gekom is, is dat emosionele intelligensie inderdaad leierskap en interpersoonlike vaardighede sal verbeter wat die leier sal toerus om 'n emosioneel gevorderde organisasie te bou. Voorstelle vir toekomstige navorsing is om empiriese navorsing te doen ten einde die aannames gemaak en gevolgtrekkings waartoe gekom is in hierdie literatuuroorsig ten opsigte van die rol wat emosionele intelligensie speel by leierskapsontwikkeling en - effektiwiteit te toets.

Resumen

Business intelligence project failures in organizations derive from various causes. Technological aspects regarding the use of business intelligence tools expose the problem of too complicated tool for operational users, lack of system scalability, dissatisfied software performance, and hard coded business requirements on the tools. This study was conducted in order to validate in-memory business intelligence advantages towards functionality, flexibility, performance, ease of use, and ease of development criteria. A case study research method had been applied to achieve the goals in this thesis. Primarily, a pilot study was carried out to collect the data both from literatures and interviews. Therefore, the design of test case had been developed. Types of testing can be divided into 2 categories: BI functionality test and performance test. The test results reveal that in-memory business intelligence enhances conventional business intelligence performance by improving the software’s loading time and response time. At the meantime, it was proved to be flexible than rule-based, query-based, and OLAP tools, whereas its functionality and ease of development were justified to be better than query-based system. Moreover, in-memory business intelligence provides a better ease of use over query-based and rule-based business intelligence tools. Pair wise comparisons and analyses between selected in-memory business intelligence tool, QlikView, and conventional business intelligence software, Cognos, SAS, and STB Reporter, from 3 banks were made in this study based on the aforementioned test results.

Resumen

Previous research has typically focused on singular attributes that impact a leader’s effectiveness. This study, instead, looks at whether emotional intelligence moderates the anticipated negative effect of distributed presence on engagement and influence, and ultimately, leader effectiveness. Buttressed by emotional intelligence, engagement, and influence theories, the research question focused on how emotional intelligence skills moderate the impact of a project manager’s distributed presence to render the leader effective. The study sample for this research came from voluntary participants who work for a U.S. government agency comprising leaders co-located with their teams and distributed presence leaders. Descriptive statistics showed that leaders with higher emotional intelligence (EI) were more engaging and influential than co-located leaders with high EI. Regression analyses indicated greatest significance between the dependent variables—engagement and influence—and the independent variables of distributed presence and emotional intelligence when using emotional intelligence branches and tasks for the EI variables. Data from this study showed distributed presence leaders with high emotional intelligence abilities effect engagement and influence positively. The work of this research advances insights into how emotional intelligence effects, positively, project leader engagement and influence when the project manager’s presence is distributed. The data rendered by this research was informative but only to a limited degree because results were not sufficiently expansive. Nonetheless, the application of this study applies to the practical world as distributed teams seems to be a more permanent part of the business landscape than temporary, and learning how to better work as a project manager with distributed presence is essential for both organizations and project managers.

Resumen

Aim/Purpose: This paper attempts an inquiry into some Business intelligence (BI) implementation challenges related to human factors, and uses empirical survey data to test how the required BI coverage relates to perceived level of BI culture through such important human factors in BI as information sharing. Background: Business intelligence adoption already has a formidable body of experience, yet confusion remains over several key issues – implementation, adoption, created value. The multidimensionality of BI both in business dimensions and implementation dimensions is intended to handle the information integration requirements to produce an overarching view of business environment. The importance of human factors in utilizing BI potential lately has drawn growing attention of researchers, concentrating on such issues as information and insight sharing, emergence of intelligence community, preservation of experience. Methodology: An empirical survey of BI users, and analysis by data mining tools to disclose the strength of relationships between human factors and perceived levels of BI culture. Contribution: The paper points out the most prominent features of BI culture, and investigates their influence on perceived levels of BI culture. Findings: The results of the survey confirm that the dominating share of the respondents are well aware of BI culture, and perceive its level above mediocre. The results also support the existence of variety of delivery modes for BI results, prevalent need for information from other departments for insight development, and multiple modes of information sharing across functional borders. Respondents who are the most satisfied with their BI culture treat information sharing as one of the key features of intelligence environment. Recommendations for Practitioners: The named features of BI culture may be projected against real situation to assist evaluation of BI implementation potential and required action. Recommendation for Researchers: The cultural specifics of intelligence activities may be considered when investigating BI implementation issues. Impact on Society: Better understanding of activities in informing, and especially advanced informing. Future Research: Some issues that clearly merit further inquiry are information integration, insight development, issues of BI dimensions and agility.

Resumen

A Business Intelligence (BI) System employs tools from several areas of knowledge for the collection, integration and analysis of data to improve business decision making. The Brazilian Ministry of Planning, Budget and Management (MP) uses a BI System designed with the University of Brasília to ascertain irregularities on the payroll of the Brazilian federal government, performing audit trails on selected items and fields of the payroll database. This current auditing approach is entirely deterministic, since the audit trails look for previously known signatures of irregularities which are composed by means of an ontological method used to represent auditors concept maps. In this work, we propose to incorporate a statistical filter in this existing BI system in order to increase its performance in terms of processing speed and overall system responsiveness. The proposed statistical filter is based on a generative Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) whose goal is to provide a complete stochastic model of the process, specially the latent probability density function of the generative mixture, and use that model to filter the most probable payrolls. Inserting this statistical filter as a pre-processing stage preceding the deterministic auditing showed to be effective in reducing the amount of data to be analyzed by the audit trails, despite the penalty fee intrinsically associated with stochastic models due to the false negative outcomes that are not further processed. In our approach, gains obtained with the proposed pre-processing stage overcome impacts from false negative outcomes.
