An operator T on a Hilbert space H is called expansive, if ∥Tx∥⩾∥x∥ (x∈H). Expansive operators T quasisimilar to the unilateral shift of finite multiplicity N are studied. In particular, it is proved that I−T∗T is of trace class for such T and there exist invariant subspaces M of T such that the restriction T|M of T on M is similar to the unilateral shift of multiplicity 1. Such M span H, and the minimal number of such M which span H is N for N⩾2 and 2 for N=1.

In this chapter, where we turn back to well-posedness issues, we replace the material law operator M(∂t,ν), which is invariant under translations in time, by an operator of the form $$\displaystyle \mathcal {M}+\partial _{t,\nu }^{-1}\mathcal {N}, $$ ℳ + ∂ t , ν − 1 N , where both $$\mathcal {M}$$ ℳ and $$\mathcal {N}$$ N are bounded linear operators in $$L_{2,\nu }(\mathbb {R};H)$$ L 2 , ν ( ℝ ; H ) . Thus, it is the aim in the following to provide criteria on $$\mathcal {M}$$ ℳ and $$\mathcal {N}$$ N under which the operator $$\displaystyle \partial _{t,\nu }\mathcal {M}+\mathcal {N}+A $$ ∂ t , ν ℳ + N + A is closable with continuous invertible closure in $$L_{2,\nu }(\mathbb {R};H)$$ L 2 , ν ( ℝ ; H ) . In passing, we shall also replace the skew-selfadjointness of A by a suitable real part condition. The main problem in defining the notion of exponential decay for a solution of an evolutionary equation is the lack of continuity with respect to time, so a pointwise definition would not make sense in this framework. Instead, we will use our exponentially weighted spaces $$L_{2,\nu }(\mathbb {R};H)$$ L 2 , ν ( ℝ ; H ) , but this time for negative ν, and define the exponential stability by the invariance of these spaces under the solution operator associated with the evolutionary equation under consideration.

AbstractNuclear thermal propulsion (NTP) reactors have high-temperature solid-state characteristics and significant thermal expansion, which therefore require multi-physics coupling analyses. In this paper, the framework of Neutronics, Thermal-Hydraulics and Mechanics coupling (N/T-H/M) of nuclear thermal propulsion reactor is developed, and the typical reactor XE-2 is analyzed with this method. The results show that the N/T-H/M coupling will bring -1049 pcm negative reactivity, of which the thermal expansion effect accounts for 22%, indicating that the nuclear thermal propulsion reactor has a certain capacity for self-regulation. However, thermal expansion will lead to 0.88 mm peak deformation and 233 MPa peak stress, which will severely threaten the mechanical tolerance of the materials. Therefore, there is a trade-off between the advantages and disadvantages of the high-temperature solid-state core while designing NTP reactors.

Abstract In this paper, we estimated the physical and geometrical characteristics of the visually close binary stellar system Hip 45571, using “Al-Wardat’s method for analyzing binary and multiple stellar systems”. We estimated the physical properties of the components of the system for the four measured parallax given by Gaia and Hipparcos, which gives a dynamical mass sum ranges between 2.43 and 2.52 solar mass using the new orbital parameters following Tokovinin’s dynamical method. The method used is a spectrophotometrical computational technique that employs Kurucz plane-parallel line-blanketed model atmospheres for single stars. These model atmospheres are used to construct the synthetic spectral energy distributions (SED) of each component and for the entire system. To ensure the method’s accuracy, we apply the fit between synthetic and observational photometry under different filters, including the recently published Gaia DR3 measurements. The positions of the components on the H-R diagram and the evolutionary tracks were used to estimate their masses and ages. We found that the system consists of 2.24 Gyr two F2.5 IV and F3.5IV subgiant components with $${T}_{\text{eff}}^{\text{A}}=6800$$ T eff A = 6800 K, $${T}_{\text{eff}}^{\text{B}}=6700$$ T eff B = 6700 K, $${\text{logg}}_{\text{A}}=4.19 \text{ m}/{\text{s}}^{2}$$ logg A = 4.19 m / s 2 $${\text{logg}}_{\text{B}}=4.33\text{ m}/{\text{s}}^{2}$$ logg B = 4.33 m / s 2 , $${R}_{\text{A}}=1.77{R}_{ \odot }$$ R A = 1.77 R ⊙ , $${R}_{\text{B}}=1.34{\text{R}}_{ \odot }$$ R B = 1.34 R ⊙ , $${L}_{\text{A}}=6.01{\text{L}}_{ \odot }, {L}_{\text{B}}=3.25 {\text{L}}_{ \odot }$$ L A = 6.01 L ⊙ , L B = 3.25 L ⊙ and, $${Z}_{*}=0.011$$ Z ∗ = 0.011 . Depending on the masses estimated by Al-Wardat’s method, a new parallax value of 28.72 ± 0.30 mas was obtained. Which lies between the values given by DR2 and DR3. This research underscores the importance of precision and reliability in employing these methods and measurements in a dynamic context, deepening our understanding of such stellar systems.
