Resumen
The present study assesses the association between childhood exposure to parental violence and perpetration of marital violence as adults among a representative sample of 3,396 men in Bangladesh. We used secondary analysis of survey data from the nationally representative Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey 2007 to examine factors associated with perpetration of martial violence among 3,396 ever-married men between the ages of 16 and 50 years. Outcome measure, marital violence perpetration, was measured using a modified Conflict Tactics Scale, and predictor variables included childhood exposure to parental violence, justification of marital violence, marital duration, religion, and demographic variables. Results indicate that marital violence perpetration is significantly associated with childhood exposure to marital violence, suggesting a cycle of violence that is maintained across generations. Implications for policy and practice are discussed.

Resumen
A study of women in Islington confirms earlier findings of a high rate of reported marital violence (25% experiencing it at some time in their lives). Women who had experienced marital violence tended not to repeat the same pattern in subsequent relationships. Violence was associated with childhood neglect, but not early violence. Premarital pregnancy and teenage marriage were links between early neglect and marital violence, and were also important correlates of later marital violence, irrespective of such earlier lack of care. These early-adult experiences were also related to spending longer in a violent relationship. Women experiencing marital violence were more likely to have been depressed, and to have had low self-esteem, in the 3-year study period.

Resumen
The problem of male violence against women in intimate relationships has been addressed by the feminist literature over past four decades, but little work exists on the experiences of Pakistani women. This study aimed to explore the experiences of Pakistani women in Scotland who have suffered marital violence. It was based upon feminist perspective and employed qualitative methodology. Interviews with eighteen Pakistani women were carried out. The findings from this study extend an understanding of marital violence in the context of extended family where the perpetrator of violence against a wife is not just a husband but the mother-in-law also. Thus it complicates the understanding of family as site of violence that is not dyadic in nature. The findings also reveal that women can be both victims and perpetrators in their life time when seen through their position in life cycle based hierarchies in their marital homes.

Ulu, Sinan. "Attitudes Toward Marital Violence: Individual And Situational Factors". Master's thesis, METU, 2003. http://etd.lib.metu.edu.tr/upload/12604933/index.pdf.

Texto completo
Resumen
The present study aimed at investigating the relationship between factors that are inherent in the perceiver, inherent in the situation
attitudes toward marital violence, attributions of blame in a violent incident, and judgments on what the victim should do after a violent incident. Attitudes are assessed via three beliefs that the violence can be justified, the husband is not responsible from the violence, and the blame of the violence can be attributed to the wife. Factors inherent in the perceiver (named individual factors), which are thought to be important, were defined as patriarchal and traditional beliefs about marriage and the family, hostile and benevolent sexism, beliefs about normative approval of violence, and gender. Factors inherent in the situation (named situational factors) were existence of (perceived) provocation in a violent incident, severity of the violence, and employment status of the wife and the husband. 327 METU students (176 female, 151 male) had filled out a questionnaire, in which a violent episode between a husband and a wife was described. The scenario contained manipulations on the situational factors. Other constructs were assessed via Likert type scales. Analyses revealed that the sample had held negative views of marital violence, but tend to disagree with immediate precautions like calling the police after a violent episode. Both situational and societal factors had differential effects on the dependent measures, patriarchy and hostile sexism was found to be especially related with the beliefs about wife beating whereas severity and provocation was strongly related with the attributions of blame. Existence of children had decreased the agreement with reactions that would end up the marriage. Suggestions for future research, and limitations of the study are discussed in addition to the findings.

Resumen
This investigation addressed the question "What are the characteristics of the relationship between power, interference, frustration and aggression within the context of a conjugal conflict?" This investigation used a mathematical correlational descriptive design with magnitude estimation measures to evaluate the relationships between power, interference, frustration and aggression. The measures were administered to 39 women drawn from state funded social service agencies. Thirty-three (n = 13) percent of the total sample were retested to determine the stability of the measures. The reliability of the magnitude estimation measures ranged from.90 to.98 for test retest stability and.83 to.92 for the internal consistency or theta coefficients. Regression analysis of the data indicated that power had the strongest relationship to aggression (R² =.89). Neither interference nor frustration had any relationship to the concept of aggression. Empirical modeling revealed that parental aggression, through power, increased the strength of the relationship between power and aggression (R² =.96). The model also revealed that interference had the sole relationship with the concept of frustration (R² =.83).

Resumen
The study investigates the reasons why women continue to live with an abusive husband and examines the relationship between their reasons and a number of variables that support one’s ability to cope with spousal violence. These variables include employment status, educational level, number of children, marriage duration, the social status of the wife's family and the number of violent incidents. A demographic survey and a spousal violence adaption scale were administered to a sample of 114 abused wives. The results revealed that all of the variables and several of the dimensions represented by the violence adaption scale affected the women’s decisions. The impact of these variables was more obvious among nonworking wives and the lesser educated, women with a greater number of children, those who had been married longer, those who senatal families had a low social status, and those who were subjected to violence more frequently. Keywords: adaptation to violence, marital violence, Saudi Arabia, spousal violence, violence against women in Saudi Arabia, why women stay in violent relationships.

Resumen
Divorce is the legal dissolution of a marriage by a court. Since this is usually an unpleasant outcome of a marital union, each party may have reasons to call the decision to quit which is generally documented in detail in the court proceedings. Via a substantial corpus of 17,306 court proceedings, this paper investigates gender inequality through the lens of divorce court proceedings. To our knowledge, this is the first-ever large-scale computational analysis of gender inequality in Indian divorce, a taboo-topic for ages. While emerging data sources (e.g., public court records made available on the web) on sensitive societal issues hold promise in aiding social science research, biases present in cutting-edge natural language processing (NLP) methods may interfere with or affect such studies. A thorough analysis of potential gaps and limitations present in extant NLP resources is thus of paramount importance. In this paper, on the methodological side, we demonstrate that existing NLP resources required several non-trivial modifications to quantify societal inequalities. On the substantive side, we find that while a large number of court cases perhaps suggest changing norms in India where women are increasingly challenging patriarchy, AI-powered analyses of these court proceedings indicate striking gender inequality with women often subjected to domestic violence.

Resumen
The article analyzes students’ narratives by the method of focus groups on the problem of attitudes towards young women who left for Syria. The authors attempted to reconstruct the girls’ everyday discourse of “talking to a stranger on the Internet and going to Syria through interviews and focus-group communication”. In the context of narrative analysis, the authors see two levels of the problem: the micro-level – the ability to identify the degree of sensitivity to the ideology of Islamic fundamentalism through attitudes to the practical actions of specific girls who have already gone to Syria. Macro-level – “intergenerational conflict” or “intergenerational rift”. The result of intergenerational conflict in North Caucasus societies is often a religiously-extremist way of behaving to adults who do not share their “excessive immersion in Islam” to the detriment of traditional normative values. The analysis of youth narratives concerning the “departed” can also serve as an explanatory model for the response to a broader problem, namely the development of intergenerational dynamics in the context of a clash of values between the traditional culture of local societies and Islamic fundamentalism. In this two-level perspective, we see the prospect of further research into the problem of extremism in North Caucasian societies. In this article, we have designated the macro level as the “background site”. In our reconstruction of the everyday discourse of university students on the problem of “girls leaving for Syria”, we came to the following conclusions. The evaluations revealed the admissibility of sharing the spouse’s fate as an attributive understanding of marital duty within the framework of Islamic ideology. In the opinion of female students, the loneliness of girls, domestic violence, and the search for a “real man” can also serve as a possible decision for young women to communicate online with a stranger. The relevance of the problem of analyzing narratives is the need to comprehend the palette of opinions of a part of the youth audience, which is not considered to be young people in the “risk zone”.

Resumen
Abstract: The objective of this literature review is to determine whether unplanned pregnancy is an independent risk factor for developing antepartum SI. Background: The Supreme Court of the United States of America recently ruled that the constitution of the United States does not confer a right to abortion to its citizens. As of October 2023, twenty-one states had developed full or partial bans on abortion, resulting in millions of Americans residing in areas where terminating unplanned pregnancy is not a viable option. There is evidence that indicates antepartum suicidal ideation (SI) is higher than that of the general population, however the rate of completion of antepartum suicide is lower than that of the general population. Risk factors for antepartum SI are important to identify for early intervention, and it is now more vital than ever to understand how the U.S.’s reproductive health landscape may contribute to these risk factors. Methods: This literature review utilized the databases PubMed, and PsycINFO as queries for primary data. Inclusion criteria included written in the English language, peer-reviewed, methodology of cross-sectional or longitudinal study design, and published between 2003 and 2023. Studies were excluded based on relevance, with articles focused on postpartum SI/depression, suicidal action/self-harm, and antepartum SI associated with specific medical conditions/medications excluded. Results: A total of 6 studies were included in this literature review with incidence rates of antepartum SI ranging from 1.3% to 27.8%. Independent risk factors for antepartum SI that were identified across multiple studies were: history of depression or other psychiatric disorders; partner violence or marital problems; and belonging to a racial or ethnic minority. Unplanned pregnancy failed to be established as an independent risk factor for antepartum SI. Discussion: While unplanned pregnancy was not found to be an independent risk factor in this study, it has the potential to contribute to likelihood of developing antepartum SI in patients with already established independent risk factors. The major limitation of this study was the lack of literature regarding the risk of developing SI during pregnancy and relating that risk to unplanned pregnancy, as well as the lack of literature conducted after the Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health decision. As the Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health decision affects more pregnant Americans, it is important that we continue to monitor our pregnant patients for signs and symptoms of SI and to continue to examine potential risk factors.

Resumen
From the decolonial thinking originated at the end of the twentieth century, the importance of indigenous resistance practices promoted from the "taking of the word" will be problematized, a term coined by the philosopher Michel de Certeau, and appropriate in this research to refer to the development of research and literary productions carried out by indigenous researchers and writers in order to confront and re-signify the colonizing narratives about these peoples. pointing out how these productions contribute to thinking about a decolonial education, such as the school model proposed by the pedagogue Maria A. P. Pereira and her Education of Sensitivity. It is understood, based on Catherine Walsh, Paulo Freire, Márcia Kambeba, Daniel Munduruku and Albert Memmi, that the colonizer finds in scientific-intellectual knowledge devices of knowledge-powerthat underpin oppressive Eurocentric structures to justify exploitation, violence, inequality, inferiorization and discrimination, bases that still exert a strong influence on the various sectors of contemporary society. It is identified in the contributions of the aforementioned researchers that an educational model critical of scientism and the hierarchization of knowledge is possible from an educational praxis that dialogues with the diversities of knowledge and cultures, where education is liberating, promoting the overcoming of the dichotomy of the oppressor-oppressed as proposed by Freire, and is applied in the Education of Sensitivity promoted by the pedagogue Maria A. P. Pereira

Resumen
This work aims to investigate the presence of machismo and patriarchy in sentences of pronunciations produced by judges of law, within the processing of femicide processes. The proposed theme starts from something frequent in the Brazilian news. Despite the advancement of criminal legislation, with the contributions of the Maria da Penha Law (2021), the rates of sexual violence, physical aggression, threat and femicide continue to be socially evident, in this sense, to deal with this issue is to break patriarchal paradigms imposed in the social environment before the female figure. Under this bias, it is understood that violence against women is rooted in society and the measures proposed by government bodies do not seem to be sufficient to decrease the rate of alarming cases of deaths related to women in Brazil. In this sense, it is intended to analyze the constitution of the interlocutors, the argumentative structure and the presence of machismo in these sentences, making use of theoretical-methodological tools such as the Theory of Argumentation in Discourse to analyze the statements of the accused, the arguments of the defense and the arguments of the Prosecutor's Office, which are articulated and retextualized by the judge of law in the formulation of the sentence of pronunciation. Thus, we rely theoretically on authors such as Fiorin (2015), who explains about argumentation, Ruth Amossy (2018), with argumentation in discourse, Gerda Lerner (2019) who comments on the creation of patriarchy and Mikhail Bakhtin (2006), who reflects on the issue of the gender of discourse, which results in a "relatively stable" standard form of a statement, pointing out that we communicate, speak, and write across genres. The results of the research are still partial, because now, it is in the phase of constitution of the corpus.

Agüero, Jorge M. Causal Estimates of the Intangible Costs of Violence against Women in Latin America and the Caribbean. Inter-American Development Bank, agosto de 2013. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0011490.

Resumen
Violence has a striking gender pattern. Men are more likely to be attacked by a stranger, while women experience violence mostly from their partners. This paper estimates the costs of violence against women in terms of intangible outcomes, such as women's reproductive health, labor supply, and the welfare of their children. The study uses a sample of nearly 83,000 women in seven countries from all income groups and all sub-regions in Latin American and the Caribbean. The sample, consisting of 26.3 million women between the ages of 15 and 49, strengthens the external validity of the results. The results show that physical violence against women is strongly associated with their marital status because it increases the divorce or separation rate. Violence is negatively linked with women's health. The study shows that domestic violence additionally creates a negative externality by affecting important short-term health outcomes for children whose mothers suffered from violence. To obtain the child health outcomes, the study employs a natural experiment in Peru to establish that these effects appear to be causal. Finally, the paper presents evidence indicating that women's education and age buffer the negative effect of violence against women on their children's health outcomes.

Resumen
Safely managed water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) are fundamental for human health and wellbeing and are thought to contribute to a range of positive outcomes related to education, livelihoods, dignity, safety, and gender equality. However, gender and other social categories (e.g. age, ethnicity, caste, disability, marital status) can mediate who benefits from WASH services and in which ways. As progress in gaining access to safe WASH services has not occurred equally, there has been a focus on mainstreaming gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) in interventions. Despite awareness in the sector of the importance of promoting gender and socially inclusive WASH services, evaluations of interventions focus largely on technical or health outcomes, while social outcomes are not included. This systematic evidence synthesis aimed to collate evidence on the impact of WASH interventions on GESI outcomes in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). It also aimed to synthesise evidence on violence-related outcomes, and to advance understanding of barriers to, and facilitators of, change in violence-related outcomes in the context of WASH interventions.

Resumen
Aiming at (re)thinking memory politics in contexts of ongoing total violence against non-white bodies, I propose, in this working paper, to engage with Maria Beatriz Nascimento’s multifaceted notion of quilombo. Once understood as alternative regimes of conviviality that entail existential (beyond material) aspects, Nascimento’s notion of quilombo enables critical access to the onto-epistemological basis on which memory politics generally takes place. After primary considerations about violence and the archives, I highlight three main aspects of Nascimento’s notion of quilombo to (re) think memory politics: (1) the introduction of a temporality that displaces underlying analytical assumptions of a linear, progressive and sequential time; (2) the idea of paz quilombola, which allows analytical space for “opacity” in the generation of knowledge; (3) the link between personal and collective intergenerational memory that, for Nascimento, requires the fostering of spaces of body encounters.
