Resumen
Data hiding is emerging as an important area of research with the advent of digital technologies. Watermarking, fingerprinting and steganography are important applications of data hiding techniques. Besides the classical use of data hiding in ownership protection, authentication and copy/access control, it serves as a general tool to convey side information. New files are a good choice for steganographic carriers. In this paper, the authors use Microsoft Excel as a cover file. A methodology has been developed that consists of three techniques for embedding the valuable data with three layers of security and high robustness. The resultant stego Excel file can be transmitted anywhere using any channel. Experimental results show the feasibility of the proposed methodology.

Resumen
One of the major characteristic of cryptography and steganography is unlimited and limited secret data conversion and embedding respectively. In steganography, concealing unlimited secret data in cover media is unfeasible. Majority of researchers have taken image, text, html, executable files as a steganographic cover media. In this proposed work the authors have considered Microsoft Power Point Files as a cover medium. The authors have developed a methodology which consist two techniques for embedding the valuable unlimited data with three layers of security and high robustness. The resultant stego file undoubtedly can be transmitted any where using any channel. Experimental results show the feasibility of the proposed methodology.

Resumen
Microsoft word is widely used for word processing and document production. So the loss of the Word file would be great damages for their owner. File carving can reconstruct files based on their content and their own structure rather than using the metadata of the file system. The existing methods do not work very well on carving fragmented Word files. This paper presents a Microsoft Word documents carving method based on interior virtual streams. Firstly, we locate the header section and control streams-SAT to construct the framework for a Word file; then find its fragment regions by utilizing the framework information, and use the sequential hypothesis testing on the data streams in the fragment region to detect the fragment point. Based on DFRWS data sets and real data set, experiments show our method can automatically carve continuous and fragmented Microsoft word file. Moreover, the comparative experiments demonstrate that the proposed method is better than others’ in accurateness and effectiveness.

Pembelajaran e arsip di SMK selama ini belum ada model sebagai acuan materinya, oleh karenanya perlu ada model e arsip untuk pembelajaran. Rumusan masalahnya adalah (1) Bagaimana desain model e arsip pembelajaran berbasis virtual dan microsoft access? (2) Menu apa saja yang ditampilkan dalam model e arsip pembelajaran? (3) Apa kelemahan model e arsip pembelajaran tersebut? Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitan dan pengembangan (research and development). Subjek penelitiannya adalah guru administrasi perkantoran MGMP kabupaten Kudus dan Kendal.Hasil penelitiannya adalah (1) model yang e arsip pembelajaran berbasis virtual dan microsoft access yaitu pembuatan laci, guide, dan map berupa folder dan file-file yang telah ditentukan, kemudian disimpan didatabase berupa microsoft access.(2) Menu yang ditampilkan meliputi arsip baru, manajemen arsip, buku agenda surat masuk-keluar, pencarian arsip, pengaturan instansi, tambah dan sunting unit, statistik, rekap surat masuk, rekap surat keluar, rekap buku agenda, dan rekap peminjaman arsip, dan tentang e arsip. (3) Kelemahan dari model tersebut adalah masih bersifat offline dan micsoroft access yang digunakan menggunakan minimal tahun 2010. Saran dalam penelitian adalah (1) Masih terjadi error pada model e arsip pembelajaran, terutama pada microsoft access, (2) Guru diharapkan lebih terampil dalam mengoperasikan komputer baik secara micrososft access maupun virtual atau folder (3) Sekolah diharapkan menyiapkan sarana dan prasarana labolatorium praktek perkantoran modern atau labolatorium kearsipan (4) Perlu ada penelitian lanjutan, karena dalam prakteknya ada beberapa kelemahan dari e arsip berbasis virtual dan microsoft access. ABSTRACTThe material provided in this guidance is divided into 3 groups, there are Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Paint. Activities are carried out based on the division level of the ability/skill of each teacher. Teachers who have been adept grouped separately from the teacher who still lay on the computer so that the coaching is intensive. Teachers who still lay be guided and accompanied by the instructor ranging from the procedure turn on the computer, opening files, saving files, using the mouse, typing basic, introduction computer parts up on the procedure to turn off the computer. The methods applied in this activity is the Method of Presentation, Demonstration and Practice. The method of Presentation used for the introduction of software using Microsoft PowerPoint 2010. The results of this study are: First, the Training provided some of the materials associated with efforts to improve the quality of learning by giving knowledge about the use of the Program PowerPoint to create interactive games as learning media multimedia ICT-based attractive and interactive, Second, the Material presented can be accepted, digested, and understood the participant well, the Third, the Activity takes place smoothly, on time and as expected. Keywords: Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Paint. ABSTRAKMateri yang diberikan dalam pembinaan ini terbagi menjadi 3 kelompok, yaitu kelompok Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint dan Microsoft Paint. Kegiatan dilakukan berdasarkan pembagian tingkat kemampuan/skill masing - masing guru. Guru yang telah mahir dikelompokkan tersendiri dari guru yang masih awam tentang komputer supaya pembinaan lebih intensif. Guru yang masih awam dibimbing dan ditemani instruktur mulai dari prosedur menyalakan komputer, membuka file, menyimpan file, menggunakan mouse, mengetik dasar, pengenalan bagian-bagian komputer sampai pada prosedur mematikan komputer. Metode yang diterapkan dalam kegiatan ini adalah Metode Presentasi, Demonstrasi dan Praktik. Metode Presentasi digunakan untuk pengenalan software menggunakan Microsoft PowerPoint 2010. Hasil penelitian ini adalah: Pertama, Pelatihan memberikan beberapa materi yang terkait dengan upaya meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran dengan pemberikan pengetahuan mengenai pemanfaatan Program PowerPoint untuk membuat game interaktif sebagai media pembelajaran multimedia berbasis TIK yang atraktif dan interaktif, Kedua, Materi yang disajikan dapat diterima, dicerna, dan dipahami peserta dengan baik, Ketiga, Kegiatan berlangsung lancar, tepat waktu dan sesuai dengan yang diharapkan. Data shredding indicates a process of irreversible file destruction while file shredder is the program designed to render computer-based files unreadable by implementing overwriting method to destroy data in the content of a file. The addressable problem with existence of file recovery tools is it may lead to data leakage, exploitation or dissemination from an unauthorized person. Thus, this study proposed a file shredding application named E-Raser which replacing the content of the file using random words function algorithm. A file shredder application named E-Raser was developed to shred Microsoft Word documents with (.doc) or (.docx) format. The implemented algorithm replaced the original content of the files with uninformative words provided by the application. After rewriting phase is complete, shredding process take place to make the file unrecoverable. Object Oriented Software Development was used as the methodology to develop this application. As a result, E-Raser achieved the objectives to add, remove, rewrite, display and shred files. Also, E-Raser is significantly facilitates users to securely dispose their file, protect the confidentiality and privacy of the file’s content.

Audio file size is relatively larger when compared to files with text format. Large files can cause various obstacles in the form of large space requirements for storage and a long enough time in the shipping process. File compression is one solution that can be done to overcome the problem of large file sizes. Arithmetic coding is one algorithm that can be used to compress audio files. The arithmetic coding algorithm encodes the audio file and changes one row of input symbols with a floating point number and obtains the output of the encoding in the form of a number of values greater than 0 and smaller than 1. The process of compression and decompression of audio files in this study is done against several wave files. Wave files are standard audio file formats developed by Microsoft and IBM that are stored using PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) coding. The wave file compression ratio obtained in this study was 16.12 percent with an average compression process time of 45.89 seconds, while the average decompression time was 0.32 seconds.

The purpose of this thesis is to develop a software system simulating Turing machines using a Microsoft Windows' Interface.Developed in the 1930's by Alan Turing and Emil Post, Turing machines are defined as "abstract computers" . These machines seem able to solve all problems a modern computer can solve, however complex the problems may be. A Turing machine is a basic computational model for algorithms.The software provides a practical tool to students with a relative notion of Turing machines. The software contains introduction and general information on Turing machines that gives the beginner enough background to use the program. The user can create, modify or run Turing machines saved onto MS-DOS files. Some examples of Turing machines are preloaded. These examples give more help to the beginner.An on-line help facility is provided in order to direct and inform the learning student at each level of the software.The Microsoft Windows' Interface makes the software easy and friendly to use. The software has the modularity which will ease any future enhancement.

My thesis is to design a Controlled Area Network (CAN) simulator For Microsoft Windows. In a modern world we deal with complex mechanical systems that require special electronic control to guarantee ultimate safety and efficiency. These electronic control systems are responsible for monitoring subsystems within the mechanical systems. A good example of this is the motor vehicles that are being driven on the road today. These vehicles have been designed with increased safety and efficiency, such as electronic controlled anti lock breaks, fuel injection, and power control steering. To run all of these components, the car needs a very well designed protocol to be able to control series of messages being passed from one subsystem to another. To determine which message being passed has higher priority than any other messages. To deal with such circumstances, the Controlled Area Network (CAN) was designed. The purpose of the CAN simulator is to gather statistical information concerning the arbitration, message transfer, error detection, error signaling, and retransmision. The CAN simulating model will consist of one to sixty nodes. Each node is considered as a subsystem for the CAN simulator. The subsystems will be characterized as the breaks, engine, transmission, or any part of a car which needs to be connected to the CAN system. Each node will send one to ten messages through the CAN system. The CAN system will take the messages from the nodes and place them into an Arrival queue. Each node will have its own Arrival queue, and no nodes can have two messages on the bus at the same time. The messages will be sorted in the queues in the order of the time needed to be released onto the bus. There will be an internal clock that will monitor the time for when the messages are needed to be placed onto the bus. If there is a situation where two messages need to be sent at the same time, the arbitrator will determine the priority of the messages to be placed onto the bus. Once the message is on the bus, it will go to a transfer queue. Periodically, there will be an error signal sent with the message that will be detected by the error detection, and it will be required that the message to be retransmitted. At critical points on the simulation, statistical information will be gathered for an analyzation. Some examples of information to be analyzed are 1) verification of the simulation performance on a single node with a single message, 2) network load which is a rate of a utilized bus time to the total bus time, 3) network throughput which is a total number of messages that are transmitted per second, and 4) average response time which will be the average time taken by all messages to gain bus access.PLATFORM DESCRIPTIONThe computer to be used in this project will be an Intel Pentum 100 with 16 megs RAM, two 853 megabyte harddrive, and a 17 inch super VGA monitor. The user interface will be windows 3.1 application. The compiling language to be used will be Microsoft Visual C++.

Context. An important goal of most IT groups is to manage server resources in such a way that their users are provided with fast, reliable and secure access to files. The modern needs of organizations imply that resources are often distributed geographically, asking for new design solutions for the file systems to remain highly available and efficient. This is where distributed file systems (DFSs) come into the picture. A distributed file system (DFS), as opposed to a "classical", local, file system, is accessible across some kind of network and allows clients to access files remotely as if they were stored locally. Objectives. This paper has the goal of comparatively analyzing two distributed file systems, Microsoft DFS (MSDFS) and Hadoop DFS (HDFS). The two systems come from different "worlds" (proprietary - Microsoft DFS - vs. open-source - Hadoop DFS); the abundance of solutions and the variety of choices that exist today make such a comparison more relevant. Methods. The comparative analysis is done on a cluster of 4 computers running dual-installations of Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 (the MSDFS environment) and Linux Ubuntu 14.04 (the HDFS environment). The comparison is done on read and write operations on files and sets of files of increasing sizes, as well as on a set of key usage scenarios. Results. Comparative results are produced for reading and writing operations of files of increasing size - 1 MB, 2 MB, 4 MB and so on up to 4096 MB - and of sets of small files (64 KB each) amounting to totals of 128 MB, 256 MB and so on up to 4096 MB. The results expose the behavior of the two DFSs on different types of stressful activities (when the size of the transferred file increases, as well as when the quantity of data is divided into (tens of) thousands of many small files). The behavior in the case of key usage scenarios is observed and analyzed. Conclusions. HDFS performs better at writing large files, while MSDFS is better at writing many small files. At read operations, the two show similar performance, with a slight advantage for MSDFS. In the key usage scenarios, HDFS shows more flexibility, but MSDFS could be the better choice depending on the needs of the users (for example, most of the common functions can be configured through the graphical user interface).

The hypercube is one of the most versatile and efficient networks yet discovered for parallel computation. It is well suited for both special-purpose and general-purpose tasks, and it can efficiently simulate many other networks of the same size. The size of subgraphs can be used to estimate the efficient communications of hypercube computer systems.The thesis investigates induced subgraphs of a hypercube, discusses sizes of subgraphs, and provides a formula to give bounds on the size of any subgraph of the hypercube.The concept of spanning graphs and line graphs is useful for studying properties of graphs. An MS WINDOWS based graphical system is developed which allows the creation and display of graphs and their spanning graphs, line graphs and super line graphs.

The aim of this study was to investigate the role Excel could play in influencing Mathematics and Mathematical literacy learners’ interpretation of functions and their attitude towards Mathematics. I used a Mathematical Graphical Diagnostic (MGD) test, an attitude questionnaire, a reflective questionnaire and semi-structured interviews as instruments. The MGD test and the attitude questionnaire were given to 72 volunteer grade 11 learners at a former Model C school in Port Elizabeth, in the Eastern Cape. This group included 50 pure Mathematics learners and 22 Mathematical literacy learners. From this group, a smaller group of 10 learners further took part in the rest of the study were they went through an intervention were Excel was used as a teaching tool, covering concepts concerning functions. This group included 6 pure Mathematics and 4 Mathematical literacy learners. The 10 learners then re-wrote the MDG test and refilled the attitude questionnaire after the intervention. A reflective questionnaire was administered to the 10 learners after the intervention, with 5 learners from the 10 undergoing interviews in order to meet the objectives of the study. The administration of the MDG test and attitude questionnaire, interviews and reflective questionnaire enabled me to explore the relationship between learner performance and their attitude towards Mathematics as a subject, as well as the comparing the attitudes and performances between pure Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy learners. The study followed a qualitative research design, with an element of quantitative research. The qualitative data yielded findings that revealed the effectiveness of using Excel in teaching functions while the quantitative data revealed the difference in attitude and ability between pure Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy leaners. The findings of the study revealed that Excel played a major role in improving pure Mathematics learners’ results but not those of the Mathematical Literacy learners. The study also showed that technology does not necessarily impact on learners’ attitudes positively.

Children with autism typically exhibit deficits in behavior and also in visual processing. Development and implementation of visually-cued instructional procedures, combined with electronic technology, have been used successfully to teach children with autism complex behavior chains. This study used photographic activity schedules on computer slideshow software to teach two children with autism to follow computer-mediated cues and engage in four play activities, and to transition between each activity in their homes without the presence of a trained behavior therapist. Results of this study demonstrated that these technologies can be utilized in children's homes to promote computer-mediated play behavior while eliminating the necessary cost of a home behavior therapist to prompt and supervise such activities.

New hardware devices are continually being released to the public by hardware manufactures around the world. For these new devices to be usable under a PC operating system, device drivers that extend the functionality of the target operating system have to be constructed. This work examines and compares the device driver architectures currently in use by two of the most widely used operating systems, Microsoft’s Windows and Linux. A stand-alone virtual instrument (vi) has been developed to augment an experimental system identification laboratory exercise in a required mechanical engineering course on system dynamics. The Virtual Lab (VL) was used productively as a post-lab exercise in conjunction with an existing laboratory experiment for system identification. The VL can be formatted as a standalone file, which the students can download and access at their convenience, without the need for LabVIEW software. The virtual lab presented in this paper used the experimental identification of a transfer function for an xy recorder developed at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. In the original Rose-Hulman experiment, students view a video of the acquisition of frequency response data for an X-Y recorder. Then, students complete a detailed optimization procedure using Microsoft Excel in order to determine system parameters for two transfer function models. This paper describes using the Virtual Lab to extend the original lab exercise into an interactive mode. The students complete the Microsoft Excel part of the exercise, but then repeat the optimization using brute force via the LabVIEW based VL developed by the authors, rather than using the optimization toolbox in Excel. With the VL, students can see in real-time the effects of each unknown parameter on the frequency response plot, thus providing additional insight into the relationships between these parameters and the behavior of the electromechanical system. This feature is notably absent in the Microsoft Excel portion of the exercise. Although this exercise uses simple dynamic models, the combination of Excel and LabVIEW approaches provide an insightful introduction to experimental system identification. In this paper, details of the VL are presented, including the functionality of the VL and methodologies for disseminating the VL as a stand-alone piece of software. Finally, some assessment results for the original (Excel version) and VL methods of presenting the laboratory exercise are discussed.

One of the common usages of a captured human body motion in automotive application is creating swept volumes of the body surfaces based on the trajectories of its motion. Recent development of depth sensors enables fast and natural motion capture without attaching markers on subjects’ bodies. Microsoft Kinect is one of widely used depth sensors. It can track a whole body motion and output a skeleton model. A new method is developed to create the swept volumes from the motion captured by Kinect using an open source graphic system. The skeleton motion is recorded in a file format that is flexible to retain the skeleton’s structure and acceptable to various graphic systems. The motion is then bound with a surface manikin model in the graphic system, where the swept volumes are generated. This method is more flexible and portable than utilizing a commercial digital manikin, and potentially provides more accurate result.

Resumen
Computer-based information management systems have allowed many companies and facilities to greatly improve their data storage and processing capabilities over traditional paper and file methods. The Internet and its associated web-based technologies have further contributed to information processing capabilities. The Federal Transit Administration’s Bus Testing Program, operated by the Pennsylvania Transportation Institute at the Pennsylvania State University requires an upgrade to such a system. Currently, all bus test data is entered directly into a hardcopy report, and data analysis must be performed manually. The objective in this research is to develop an information management system for the bus test data to facilitate access to the data, enable search queries, and perform statistical analyses to examine current trends or predict performance characteristics of future buses. A database has been created in Microsoft Access and linked to a user-friendly graphical user interface developed in Visual Basic for fast and nearly error-free data entry. A web-based infrastructure comprised of HTML, XML, ASP, and customized COM objects is used to display, search, and analyze the bus test data. The resulting information system saves time and money for PTI while enabling easy access to bus test reports.

Background/Purpose: Post-operative delirium leads to significant morbidity in elderly patients, yet there is no regimen to prevent POD. Opioid use in the elderly surgical population is of the most significant risk factors for developing POD. The purpose of this scoping review is to recognize that Dexmedetomidine mitigates cognitive dysfunction secondary to acute pain and the use of narcotic analgesia by decreasing the amount of norepinephrine (an excitatory neurotransmitter) released during times of stress. This mechanism of action also provides analgesia through decreased perception and modulation of pain. Methods: The authors developed eligibility criteria for inclusion of articles and performed a systematic search of several databases. Each of the authors initially selected five articles for inclusion in the scoping review. We created annotated literature tables for easy screening by co-authors. After reviewing the annotated literature table four articles were excluded, leaving 11 articles for inclusion in the scoping review. There were six level I meta-analysis/systematic reviews, four level II randomized clinical trials, and one level IV qualitative research article. Next, we created a data-charting form on Microsoft Word for extraction of data items and synthesis of results. Results: Two of the studies found no significant difference in POD between dexmedetomidine groups and control groups. The nine remaining studies noted decreases in the rate, duration, and risk of POD in the groups receiving dexmedetomidine either intraoperatively or postoperatively. Multiple studies found secondary benefits in addition to decreased POD, such as a reduction of tachycardia, hypertension, stroke, hypoxemia, and narcotic use. One study, however, found that the incidence of hypotension and bradycardia were increased among the elderly population. Implications for Nursing Practice: Surgery is a tremendous stressor in any age group, but especially the elderly population. It has been shown postoperative delirium occurs in 17-61% of major surgery procedures with 30-40% of the cases assumed to be preventable. Opioid administration in the elderly surgical population is one of the most significant risk factors for developing POD. With anesthesia practice already leaning towards opioid-free and opioid-limited anesthetic, the incorporation of dexmedetomidine could prove to be a valuable resource in both reducing opioid use and POD in the elderly surgical population. Although more research is needed, the current evidence is promising.

Vegetation inventory and mapping is a process to document the composition, distribution and abundance of vegetation types across the landscape. The National Park Service’s (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) program has determined vegetation inventory and mapping to be an important resource for parks; it is one of 12 baseline inventories of natural resources to be completed for all 270 national parks within the NPS I&M program. The Mojave Desert Network Inventory & Monitoring (MOJN I&M) began its process of vegetation inventory in 2009 for four park units as follows: Lake Mead National Recreation Area (LAKE), Mojave National Preserve (MOJA), Castle Mountains National Monument (CAMO), and Death Valley National Park (DEVA). Mapping is a multi-step and multi-year process involving skills and interactions of several parties, including NPS, with a field ecology team, a classification team, and a mapping team. This process allows for compiling existing vegetation data, collecting new data to fill in gaps, and analyzing the data to develop a classification that then informs the mapping. The final products of this process include a vegetation classification, ecological descriptions and field keys of the vegetation types, and geospatial vegetation maps based on the classification. In this report, we present the narrative and results of the sampling and classification effort. In three other associated reports (Evens et al. 2020a, 2020b, 2020c) are the ecological descriptions and field keys. The resulting products of the vegetation mapping efforts are, or will be, presented in separate reports: mapping at LAKE was completed in 2016, mapping at MOJA and CAMO will be completed in 2020, and mapping at DEVA will occur in 2021. The California Native Plant Society (CNPS) and NatureServe, the classification team, have completed the vegetation classification for these four park units, with field keys and descriptions of the vegetation types developed at the alliance level per the U.S. National Vegetation Classification (USNVC). We have compiled approximately 9,000 existing and new vegetation data records into digital databases in Microsoft Access. The resulting classification and descriptions include approximately 105 alliances and landform types, and over 240 associations. CNPS also has assisted the mapping teams during map reconnaissance visits, follow-up on interpreting vegetation patterns, and general support for the geospatial vegetation maps being produced. A variety of alliances and associations occur in the four park units. Per park, the classification represents approximately 50 alliances at LAKE, 65 at MOJA and CAMO, and 85 at DEVA. Several riparian alliances or associations that are somewhat rare (ranked globally as G3) include shrublands of Pluchea sericea, meadow associations with Distichlis spicata and Juncus cooperi, and woodland associations of Salix laevigata and Prosopis pubescens along playas, streams, and springs. Other rare to somewhat rare types (G2 to G3) include shrubland stands with Eriogonum heermannii, Buddleja utahensis, Mortonia utahensis, and Salvia funerea on rocky calcareous slopes that occur sporadically in LAKE to MOJA and DEVA. Types that are globally rare (G1) include the associations of Swallenia alexandrae on sand dunes and Hecastocleis shockleyi on rocky calcareous slopes in DEVA. Two USNVC vegetation groups hold the highest number of alliances: 1) Warm Semi-Desert Shrub & Herb Dry Wash & Colluvial Slope Group (G541) has nine alliances, and 2) Mojave Mid-Elevation Mixed Desert Scrub Group (G296) has thirteen alliances. These two groups contribute significantly to the diversity of vegetation along alluvial washes and mid-elevation transition zones.
