Resumen
Govorenje i pisanje dva su modaliteta jezične proizvodnje različitih obilježja koji pružaju različite izražajne mogućnosti te se zasnivaju se na različitim jezičnim zakonitostima. Razlike između modaliteta očituju se u uporabi jezičnih sredstava kojima se uspostavljaju odnosi na nadrečeničnoj razini, to jest konektora i ostalih diskursnih oznaka. Dosadašnja su istraživanja pokazala da se uporaba konektora i ostalih diskursnih oznaka razlikuje s obzirom na jezični modalitet. Mnogi oblici upotrebljavaju se i u pisanome i govorenome modalitetu, ali s različitim funkcijama, dok su neki drugi ograničeni na jedan jezični modalitet. S obzirom na nedostatak sličnih istraživanja u hrvatskome, u ovome su se istraživanju željele ispitati razlike u uporabi konektora i ostalih diskursnih oznaka s obzirom na jezični modalitet. Sukladno prijašnjim istraživanjima, očekivale su se razlike u čestoti konektora i diskursnih oznaka s obzirom na jezični modalitet. Istraživanje je provedeno na Hrvatskome nacionalnom korpusu (pisani jezik) te na Hrvatskome korpusu govornog jezika (govoreni jezik). Dobiveni su rezultati većim dijelom sukladni dosadašnjim istraživanjima, to jest pronađena je veća čestota diskursnih oznaka koje nisu konektori u govorenome korpusu te su se pojedini konektori i diskursne oznake pojavili u samo jednome od korpusa. Utvrđeno je i da se konektori pojavljuju češće u govorenome korpusu, a taj je rezultat u suprotnosti s prvotnom pretpostavkom o većoj čestoti tih oblika u pisanome korpusu. Rezultate provedenoga istraživanja potrebno je tumačiti u svjetlu žanrovskih osobitosti, stupnja formalnosti i interakcije.

Komunikacijske su teškoće kod osoba s traumatskom ozljedom mozga različite, uzimajući u obzir rasprostranjenost ozljede, vrstu udaraca i težinu traumatskog oštećenja mozga. Cilj ovoga rada, i u tu svrhu provedenog istraživanja, bila je procjena komunikacijskih sposobnosti osoba s traumatskim oštećenjem mozga na verbalnom, gestovnom i grafičkom modalitetu primjenom Porch indeksa komunikacijskih sposobnosti (Porch Index of Communicative Ability, PICA, B. E. Porch, 1981) prevedenog i prilagođenog hrvatskom jeziku. Ispitivanje je provedeno na 14 ispitanika obaju spolova, u dobi od 21 do 62 godine, kroz tri vremenska razdoblja u razmaku od tri mjeseca, kako bi se pratio napredak ispitanika kroz ponovljena ispitivanja. Svi su ispitanici bili na liječenju i rehabilitaciji u Specijalnoj bolnici za medicinsku rehabilitaciju u Krapinskim Toplicama. Prikupljeni su podatci obrađeni univarijantno i multivarijntno. Korišten je Friedmanov neparametrijski test za testiranje značajnosti razlika aritmetičkih sredina malih zavisnih uzoraka. Za analizu sustava varijabli kvalitativnih i kvantitativnih promjena jednog uzorka u dvije vremenske točke korišten je program PROM (Nikolić, 1997). Dobiveni rezultati ukazuju na najmanji stupanj oporavka u verbalnom modalitetu. Gestovni modalitet je značajno oštećen u početnim ispitivanjima, ali se pod utjecajem terapije brže oporavlja. Grafički modalitet opisuju najlošiji rezultati zbog pareza ili plegija ekstremiteta. Rezultati ukazuju i na važnost zastupljenosti određenog modaliteta u ranoj rehabilitaciji komunikacijskih poteškoća nakon ozljede mozga.

Definition of the concept of justice comes from apodictic judgments, while definition of its individual validity comes from assertoric judgments. Argumentation as an element of justice in a logical sense is an assertoric judgment. Its definition brings light to the search for the logical nature of assertoric judgment - it is a contribution the philosophy of law may offer to the logic. In the argumentation assertoric judgment does not transform to problematic judgment and for this reason the justice can never be arbitrary.

I såvel Danmark som i andre lande er der et ønske om øget samarbejde, ’sharedcare’, mellem almen praksis og psykiatrien i behandlingen af patientermed depression. Gennem interview med henholdsvis praktiserende lægerog psykiatere demonstreres, at de to faggrupper har divergerende tilgange tildepression: De praktiserende læger udviser en konstruktivistisk, bottom-upforståelseaf depression som en foranderlig størrelse, der kan forhandles ogmodificeres, mens psykiaterne udviser en essentialistisk, top-down-forståelseaf depression som en statisk størrelse. Denne forskel kommer til udtryk i faggruppernesgengivelser af deres habituelle sprogbrug om depression. Såledesbruger lægerne oftere kausative konstruktioner, modalitet samt pronominermed tydelige referenter, mens psykiaterne bruger kopulakonstruktioner, generiskereferenter og sjældnere modalitet. Disse forskellige forståelser kanhave konsekvenser for ønsket om sambehandling af patienter med depression.Mens hovedparten af sundhedskommunikationsstudier anskues fra etinteraktionelt perspektiv, er denne undersøgelse et bidrag til sundhedskommunikationi en repræsentationskontekst, dvs. hvordan læger taler om deresprofession og deres patienter frem for i deres profession med deres patienter.Inspirationen til denne analysemetode hentes fra en – i udgangspunktet litterær– teori om gengivelse af tale og tanke. For at gøre fænomenet anvendeligttil undersøgelse af forståelser af depression indplaceres det i en grammatisktalesprogsramme, og de metodiske implikationer heraf diskuteres.

The paper highlights contemporary trends in foreign language acquisition which systematically enhance communicative abilities, contributing to the development of language skills in a creative and innovative manner. One of the leading trends is reflected in the modality of mutual learning, which is increasingly used and involves the interaction of two persons willing to teach each other their mother tongue. The paper looks at the possibilities of acquiring a foreign language using the HelloTalk mobile app, based on tandem learning and the communicative approach. The social interactions involved in problem solving through partnership enable each student to expand their zone of further development, making the topic of this paper significant in a pedagogical context. A study carried out with the aim of assessing students' attitudes to the use of this language acquisition tool is presented in the paper. Quantitative and qualitative methods were used. Data were collected using an online survey and also through focus group discussions. The findings suggest that one of the major advantages of learning a foreign language in this way is the partial or total reduction of language barriers, as well as the absence of anxiety and nervousness, which frequently accompany communication in a foreign language. The findings confirm that the HelloTalk mobile app, although appealing in language learning, is not widely used among the student population in Serbia due to students' lack of free time and their insufficient engagement, which is required in tandem learning.

U radu se obrađuje organizirano prikupljanje punomoći za glasovanje na glavnoj skupštini, ukazujući na otvorena pitanja u njegovoj primjeni. Budući da Direktiva o pravima dioničara u uvrštenim društvima ne uređuje izričito ovaj institut, države članice EU-a zauzele su različita stajališta u pogledu njegova uređenja. S jedne strane su države članice koje nisu izričito uredile organizirano prikupljanje punomoći za glasovanje na glavnoj skupštini, dok su s druge strane države članice koje posebnim odredbama uređuju ovaj institut. Međutim, i unutar te skupine država članica uočavaju se različiti pristupi u uređenju pojedinih pitanja. Valja istaknuti da se u državama članicama EU-a u kojima nije izričito uređeno organizirano prikupljanje punomoći za glasovanje na glavnoj skupštini, sve više postavlja pitanje potrebe njegova regulatornog uređenja. Stoga se zaključno daju prijedlozi rješenja za hrvatsko pravo.

<p><strong>Abstract:</strong> This study analysed the modalities and roles of pesantren (Islamic Boarding Schools) to face the issues of terrorism in the region of Malang. Contrary to the notion which stated that pesantren are the headquarters of terrorist groups, this paper discusses the existence of pesantren in the region of Malang with a various ideological background as the strategic and prominent stakeholders to face the issues of terrorism. The methodology was descriptive, with the concept of modality for deradicalisation. The result found that pesantren have modalities in dealing with issues of terrorism, namely, the spiritual modalities, the curriculum modality, the kyai and santri relations modality, and the social modality. Moreover, it is indicated that the pesantren and issues of terrorism are not interrelated. Pesantren have created an education system as the internal and external roles that can overcome the spread of radical movement activities and the issues of terrorism.</p><p><strong>Abstrak:</strong> Modalitas dan Peran Pesantren dalam Mengahadapi Isu Terorisme di Wilayah Malang. Studi ini menganalisa modalitas dan peran pesantren dalam menghadapi isu terorisme di wilayah Malang. Berbeda dengan pemikiran yang menyatakan bahwa pesantren merupakan pusat pengembangan bagi kelompok teroris, paper ini mendiskusikan keberadaan pesantren di Malang dengan latar belakang ideologi yang berbeda sebagai stakeholder yang strategis dan penting untuk menangani isu terorisme. Metodologi yang digunakan adalah diskriptif dengan konsep modalitas deradikalisasi. Adapun hasil yang ditemukan mengindikasikan bahwa pesantren mempunyai beberapa modalitas dalam menangani isu terorisme seperti modalitas spiritual, kurikulum, relasi kiai dan santri, serta modalitas social. Lebih lanjut, terdapat indikasi bahwa pesantren dan isu terorisme tidak terkait satu dengan lainnya. Pesantren sudah membangun sistem pendidikan sebagai bentuk peran internal dan eksternalnya untuk menyelesaikan penyebaran aktivitas gerakan radikal dan isu terorisme.</p><p><strong>Keywords:</strong> pesantren, terrorism, Malang, modality, deradicalisation</p>

This research aims to identify (1) the formd of adverbial modality markers in Quran translation texts,and (2) the categories modified by the modality markers. The data of this research is all lingual units containing adverbial modality markerd in Quran translation texts that has language ethics. Data collection utilized reading and documentation techniques, whereas data analysis utilized identity and constituent analysis methods. The results of this research identify the forms of adverbial modality markers in Quran translation texts to be in base and derivative forms. The base forms mark the modality of certainty, sincerity, determina-tion, causality, and obligation. (1) Modality of certainty is marked by pasti, (2) Modality of sincerity is mar-ked by sungguh,). (3) Modality of determination is marked by tetap, (4) Modality of causality is marked with saling. (5) Modality of obligation is marked by harus,). The derivative forms include repetition, afixation, combination, and particleization. Repetition form marks modalities of (a) expectation, with marker mudah-mudahan and sekali-kali, (b) metaphorization, with markers seakan-akan. (2) Affixation form marks modali-ties of (a) sincerity, with marker sesungguhnya (b) imagination, with marker sekiranya, berkehendak, and hendaknya which translate from (c) will, with marker berkehendak. (3) Word combination form marks modalities of (a) expectation, with marker insya Allah, insya Allah, hampir saja, and barangsiapa. (4) Particleization form is found on modalities janganlah, tentulah, tetaplah, hendaklah, and pastilah. Three cate-gories are found to be modified by the modality markers: (1) adjectives/ adjective phrase, (2) noun/noun phrase (frequencyand (3) verb/verb phrase. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mendeskripsikan bentuk adverbia penanda modalitas (APM) pada teks terjemahan Alquran (TTA), dan (2) mendeskripsikan kategori yang dimodifikatori adverbia penanda modalitas pada (TTA). Data dalam penelitian ini adalah semua satuan lingual yang mengandung adverbia penada modalitas pada TTA yang mengandung etika berbahasa. Teknik pengumpulan data adalah teknik simak dan teknik catat. Analisis data menggunakan metode agih dan metode padan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bentuk adverbia penanda modalitas (APM) pada TTA terdiri atas bentuk dasar dan bentuk turunan. APM yang berupa bentuk dasar menandai modalitas kepastian, kesungguhan, ketetapan, keslingan, dan keharusan. (1) APM kepastian dengan penanda pasti sepadan dengan BA لَ (lam penguat), memang. (2) APM kesungguhan dengan penanda sungguh, BA نإ (inna), قَدْ (qad) ((3:118), dan (2) وَقَدْ خَلَتْ (waqad kholat) (46:17). (3) APM ketetapan penanda tetap, BA أَصَرَّ- يصرُّ, (asoru-yasoru), (4) APM kesalingan, penanda saling, BA تَفَاعَلَ (taqaala). (5) APM keharusan, penanda harus لىيجب (yajabaal). Bentuk turunan meliputi, bentuk ulang, berimbuhan, gabungan, serta berpartikel. (1) Bentuk ulang yang menandai modalitas (a) pengharapan dengan penanda mudah-mudahan dan sekali-kali, yakni لعل (laala)-عسى (asyaya), dan لَنْ (lan) (laala) dan عسى (asyaya), (b) peringatan (lan) لَنْ, dan (c) pengibaratan dengan penanda seakan-akan, adalah كَأَن (ka’ana). (2) Berimbuhan yang menandai modalitas (a) kesungguhan dengan penanda sesungguhnya (BA بَلْ (bal), (b) pengandaian penanda sekiranya لَو (lawa), APM berkehendak, dan hendaknya berpadanan dengan BA يُرِيدُونَ (yuriduuna) (c) keinginan berkehendak, عُونَ (una). (3) APM berbentuk gabungan kata yang menandai modalitas (a) pengharapan insya Allah, insya Allah, hampir saja, dan barangsiapa. (4) APM berpartikel yang menandai modalitas janganlah, tentulah, tetaplah, hendaklah, dan pastilah. (b) Kategori yang dimodifikatori adverbia penanda modalitas ada lima macam. An abstract of research article should give information obviously. Modalities assist researcher to provide certain obvious information in an abstract. This study important to carry out to identify the types and functions of Malay modality used in abstracts of Proceda Social and Behavioral Sciences journal and examine the types of modality that are dominantly used in abstracts of Proceda Social and Behavioral Sciences journal. Qualitative and quantitative methods are the design of this study. Data of this study are abstracts from 18 articles of Proceda Social and Behavioral Sciences journal published by Elsevier. The data were analyzed using intralingual equivalent method by applying hubung banding menyamakan (HBS) technique. The results of the analysis are then presented using informal methods. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that there are four types of Malay modalities used in the abstracts of the Proceda Social and Behavioral Sciences journal, namely intentional, epistemic, deontic, and dynamic modalities. In addition, phrasal modals or periphrastic modals are found in the abstract in question. The dominant type of modality used in the abstract is intentional modality of 31%. Furthermore, the Malay modality used in the abstract articles of the Proceda Social and Behavioral Sciences journal indicates the existence of this modal function in abstract construction. The functions of the modals are to inform the aims or objectives, focus, problem, background and gap, method, technique analysis, and suggestion of the research.Keywords: abstract, malay, types of modalities PENGGUNAAN MODALITAS BAHASA MELAYU PADA ABSTRAK JURNAL PROCEDA SOCIAL AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES AbstrakAbstrak dalam artikel penelitian harus memberikan infomasi yang jelas. Modalitas dapat membantu peneliti untuk memberikaninformasi tertentu secara jelas dalam absrtrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis dan fungsi modalitas bahasa Melayu yang digunakan pada abstrak jurnal proceda social and behavioral sciences dan mengkaji jenis modalitas yang dominan digunakan pada abstrak jurnal proceda social and behavioral sciences. Metode qualitative dan quantitative adalah desain dari penelitian ini. Data penelitian ini adalah abstrak dari 18 artikel pada jurnal Proceda Social and Behavioral Sciences yang berbahasa melayu yang dipublikasikan oleh Elsevier. Dalam menganalisis data, digunakan metode padan intralingual dengan menerapkan teknik hubung banding menyamakan (HBS). Hasil analisis kemudian disajikan dengan menggunakan metode informal. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa terdapat empat jenis modalitas bahasa Melayu yang digunakan pada abstrak jurnal Proceda Social and Behavioral Sciences, yaitu modalitas intensional, epistemic, deontic, dan dinamik. Selain itu ditemukan phrasal modals or periphrastic modals pada abstrak yang dimaksud. Jenis modalitas yang dominan digunakan dalam abstrak tersebut ialah modalitas intensional sebesar 31%. Selanjutnya, modalitas bahasa Melayu yang digunakan pada abstrak artikel jurnal Proceda Social and Behavioral Sciences mengindikasikan adanya fungsi modal tersebut pada konstruksi abstrak. ”I ett litet förråd i Värmland hittades nyligen några tavlor som visat sig haft ett verkligt inflytande i utvecklingen av modernismen.”Detta är ett citat från inledningen av den fiktiva dokumentärfilm jag skapade som konstnärligt forskningsprojekt, vilket ingick i mitt avslutande självständiga arbete på IBIS, Konstfack. Filmen med titeln ”Autoismens Apostlar” som blev under 20 min lång visades rullande i en TV-monitor i samband med Konstfacks vårutställning. Filmen handlar om upptäckten av en hittills okänd konströrelse som florerade i Paris i början 1900-talet och som påverkade futurismen och kubismen genom sin fascination över och ockulta dyrkan av, olika motordelar. Några gånger visades den på stor duk och vid ett tillfälle anordnade jag ett samtal efter visningen där en moderator från Konstfack och konstexperten från Lund samtalade. Av frågorna från publiken förstod jag att en del personer tolkade filmen som en sann berättelse.Vilka berättarmässiga och filmiska grepp bidrar till att den aktuella filmen framstår som trovärdig? Forskningen kring att skapa dokumentärfilmen gjordes mot bakgrund av att vi lever i en tid när behovet av mediekompetens och källkritiskt kunnande ökar. Med hjälp av socialsemiotiska analysmetoder och multimodala begrepp analyserade jag filmen. På så sätt fick jag syn på hur filmens verklighet kan representeras, hur aktörerna i filmen positionerar sig, (vilket indirekt visar hur betraktaren positioneras) och hur filmen inom den här specifika genren organiserar mediets olika modes för att skapa trovärdighet och begriplighet. Vilka mediepedagogiska möjligheter framträder ur undersökningen? Min undersökning kan ses som en diskurs-analys av dokumentärfilmsgenren. Att göra elever medvetna och kritiska genom att arbeta med att skapa fiktiva berättelser i en viss genre ser jag som ett möjligt mediepedagogiskt projekt i skolan. Detta skulle kunna ge bättre förutsättningar för elever att tolka och kritiskt granska budskap i de medier de omger sig med.

The goal and purpose of this essay is to study if and how multimodality is used within a Swedish school in Kalmar. This is accomplished by observing the different modalities inside the classroom and how the use of different modalities affects the teaching. Unstructured observations combined with a material-based thematic presentation leads up to an analysis based on social semiotics and multimodality. The essay shows how the teaching uses lots of modalities: sound, images, movies, speeches and literary text in lots of different ways. These different types of modalities are used in a multimodal context, providing good conditions for learning.

Uvod: Učestalost neželjenih efekata uzrokovanih zračenjem kod pacijenata sa karcinomom glave i vrata zavisi od tehnike planiranja, sprovođenja radioterapije kao i primarne lokalizacije tumora. Cilj: Osnovna uloga našeg istraživanja je da se utvrdi učestalost neželjenih efekata tokom zračne terapije kod pacijenata sa tumorom glave i vrata tretiranih 2D konvencionalnom radioterapijom, 3D konformalnom radioterapijom planiranoj samo na osnovu CT-a nasuprot 3D konformalnoj terapiji planiranoj na osnovu fuzije kompjuterizovane tomografije sa magnetno rezontnim imidžingom (CT-MRI). Metode: Prospektivno je analizirano 90 pacijenata sa karcinomom glave i vrata kod kojih je sprovedena zračna terapija. 30 pacijenata sa karcinomom glave i vrata je zračeno 2D konvencionalnom tehnikom, drugih 30 pacijenata je zračeno 3D konformalom tehnikom na osnovu CT-a, a preostalih 30 pacijenata sa fuzijom CT-MRI. Kod svih bolesnika je primenjena standardna frakcionacija sa 2 Gy dnevno, pet dana sedmično. Rezultati: Od ukupno 90 pacijenata lečenih primenom zračne terapije, kod 72 pacijenta (72/90; 64,8%) su zabeleženi neželjeni efekti zračne terapije a učestalost komplikacija je veća kod primene 2D tehnike zračenja (28/72; 38,9% for 2D RT vs 24/72; 33,3% for 3D CT RT vs 20/72; 27,8% for 3D CT-MRI; p=0,015). Zaključak: 3D tehnika radioterapije planirana samo na osnovu CT-a je povezana sa visokom stopom toksičnosti koje znatno utiču na kvalitet života zračenih pacijenata. 3D konformalna tehnika radioterapije planirana sa CT-MRI fuzijom smanjuje pojavu oralnih komplikacija. Slično razvijenim zemljama, trebalo bi razmotriti uvođenje ove tehnike kao standardnu metodu zračenja bolesnika sa tumorom glave i vrata. Za isporuku viših tumorskih doza uz manju učestalost komplikacija je podesnija tehnika planiranja sa fuzionisanom tehnikom pomoću MR imidžinga. 2D tehnika radioterapije glave i vrata se preporučuje samo za palijativne zračne tretmane.
Introduction: The incidence of radiation-induced side effects in patients with head and neck cancer (H&N) depends on technique of planning and the irradiation dose as well as primary tumor location within the H&N region. Objective: The aim of our research is to establish the incidence of side effects in patients with head and neck cancer treated with 2D- conventional radiotherapy, 3D-conformal radiotherapy planning with computed tomography (CT) or computed tomography fusion with magnetic resonance imaging (CT-MRI fusion). Methods: Prospective analysis was performed on 90 patients with head and neck carcinoma prospectively followed after radiotherapy. 30 patients with H&N cancer were irradiated by using 2D conventional radiotherapy, other 30 patients irradiated with 3D conformal radiotherapy planning with CT, while other 30 patients were treated using 3D conformal radiotherapy planning with CT-MRI fusion. In all cases standard fractionation was used at 2 Gy per day /5 days a week. Results: Of the total number (n=90) of treated patients, 72 patients (72/90; 64,8%) reported a side effect and the incidence of complications was higher in patients irradiated with 2D technique planning radiotherapy (28/72; 38,9% for 2D RT vs 24/72; 33,3% for 3D CT RT vs 20/72; 27,8% for 3D CT-MRI; p=0,015). Conclusion: 3D radiotherapy technique planned solely on the basis of CT is related to high incidence of toxicity which significantly affects the quality of life of irradiated patients. 3D conformal radiotherapy planned with CT-MRI fusion reduces the incidence of oral complications. Following the example of developed countries, this technique should be considered as a standard method for irradiating patients with head and neck cancer. Planning technique with fusion technique using MR imaging is more suitable for delivering higher doses to the tumor with fewer side effects. Recommendation 2D conventional radiotherapy is more for palliative treatments.

Detta arbete behandlar kreativitetsbegreppet i styrdokumenten med fokus på matematik och slöjd. Syftet är att undersöka om samma definition och tillämpning av kreativitet finns i de båda ämnena. Det görs med hjälp utav begreppsanalys och diskursanalytiska verktyg, så som jämförelse av modalitetsmarkörer och analys av kunskapsformer. De texter som använts till analysen är förutom läroplan och respektive kursplan för grundskolan även de kommentarmaterial som följer med kursplanerna samt de nationella utvärderingarna som gjordes för matematik och slöjd 2003. Ur diskursanalysen framgick att matematik och slöjd i avseende av begreppet kreativitet tillhör två olika diskurser både när det gäller kreativitetsbegreppet och kunskapssyn och att det råder en hegemoni inom matematik som inte går att finna inom slöjd. Det framkom också att kreativitet med stor sannolikhet är en flytande signifikant som också bekräftar de separata diskurserna för matematik och slöjd. En viktig slutsats är att styrdokumenten bör ha en uttalad definition för begreppet kreativitet redan i läroplanen för att få en likvärdig elevbedömning inte bara mellan olika skolor utan också mellan ämnen. Samt att samhällets och synnerligen skolvärldens kunskapssyn bör vidgas från vetenskap-teoretisk kunskap till andra kunskapsformer så som praktisk-produktiv kunskap och vad Aristoteles kallar praktisk klokhet.

Hjälpverb tillhör de vanligaste orden i språket och syftet med denna undersökning är att beskriva andraspråksinlärarens användning av modala och futurumbildande hjälpverb. Användningen undersöks på två olika språkliga nivåer, senare delen av nybörjarnivå och avancerad nivå. Materialet för undersökningen är resonerande text, som använts vid examination. Hjälpverben excerperades och en kvantitativ jämförande studie gjordes mellan de två nivåerna. Därefter gjordes en djupgående analys av användningen av några hjälpverb. Resultatet visar att andelen hjälpverb är ungefär lika stor på de båda nivåerna. Kan är det vanligaste hjälpverbet. Vissa hjälpverb används bara på den avancerade nivån, t.ex. kommer att och får. Trots att hjälpverb verkar vara lättanvända för andraspråksinläraren innehåller texterna vissa semantiska avvikelser från målspråksnormen, framför allt vid ska, som på den lägre nivån ofta används icke-idiomatiskt, men på den avancerade nivån används i stort sett korrekt. Hur användningen ser ut kan bero på transfer, som ofta är en god hjälp vid användningen av hjälpverb i andraspråket, även om översättningar ibland leder till fel. Hjälpverbens frekvens i språkbruket och hur exponeringen ser ut i undervisning kan också tänkas påverka användningen.

In a time where 'fake news' and 'alternative facts' are easily spread in an ever-expanding media landscape, confidence in science and the image of the independent researcher is decreasing. Printed newspapers, as a traditionally slow and accurate medium, can counteract this development and maintain confidence in evidence-based science. To illustrate how journalism uses science, one week's articles containing a reference to science are examined in Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheter. The chosen methodological tools include a content analysis for mapping trends in the material as well as a two-part text analysis in which selected parts of the material are examined more closely. The first step of the text analysis is an analysis of legitimations that illustrates which credentials are used to assure the reader of the credibility and relevance of the scientific expertise. The second step is a modality analysis focusing mainly on modality metaphors to determine if the assessments made are subjective or objective. The content analysis shows that scientific expertise is used in three functions: 1) to communicate research; 2) to comment on a non-research-related event; 3) to justify an opinion. The analysis of legitimations indicates that the selection and number of credentials vary within the three functions. The largest number of credentials is mentioned in the commentary function, including most often the name and research area of the scientific expert. For the communication function, the institute is the only legitimizing credential next to the description ‘forskare’. The catchwords 'forskare' or 'forskning' are even considered sufficient for using research as an argument in the justification function. The modality analysis shows that researchers who act as commentators use most modality, usually in the form of subjective modality metaphors. When scientific experts act as science communicators, they appear to be most objective. The steady use of scientific expertise in all three functions indicates strong confidence in science, both in the newspaper editors and in the individual writers. However, the lack of relevant, clear credentials is striking for the communication function, though especially for the justification function. Writers with different backgrounds using 'forskning visar' as an empty argument exploit the existing trust in science, possibly damaging it in doing so.
I en tid där ’fejkade nyheter’ och ’alternativa fakta’ sprids allt snabbare i ett stadigt växande medielandskap minskar tilltron till vetenskap och bilden av den oberoende forskaren. Papperstidningar kan, som ett traditionellt långsamt och noggrant medium, motverka denna utveckling och upprätthålla tilltron till evidensbaserad vetenskap. För att belysa hur journalistiken använder sig av vetenskap undersöks en veckas alla artiklar med någon anknytning till vetenskap i Aftonbladet och Dagens Nyheter. De valda metodologiska redskapen omfattar en innehållsanalys för att kartlägga tendenser i materialet samt en tvådelad textanalys där utvalda delar av materialet undersöks närmare. För förmedlingsfunktionen används mest institutet som enda legitimerande uppgift bredvid beteckningen som forskare. Just slagorden ’forskare’ eller ’forskning’ anses vara tillräckliga för att använda forskning som argument i motiveringsfunktionen. Modalitetsanalysen visar att forskare som uppträder som kommentatorer använder mest modalitet, oftast som subjektiva modalitetsmetaforer. När vetenskapliga experter fungerar som forskningsförmedlare framstår de som mest objektiva. Den stadiga användningen av vetenskaplig expertis i alla tre funktioner tyder på en stark tilltro till vetenskap, både hos tidningsredaktionerna och de enskilda skribenterna. Avsaknaden av relevanta, tydliga uppgifter är dock slående för förmedlingsfunktionen, men särskilt för motiveringsfunktionen. Att skribenter med olika bakgrunder likaväl använder ’forskning visar’ som ett tomt argument utnyttjar den befintliga tilltron till vetenskap samtidigt som det kan skada den.

Journalism as we know it today is facing massive change. Technological advances have enabled new ways of delivering news which differ from traditional means in both practical and content-related matters. This bachelors thesis intended to obtain greater understanding of how journalistic content manifested itself on the new media platform Snapchat. We chose to conduct a socialsemiotic analysis of six of CNNs “stories” on the platform and their corresponding content on CNNs website. By doing this we could distinguish a signifigant change in both magnitude and form. Compared to the corresponding content the stories contained less information and indicated a higher level of sensation and dramatics. In addition we found that information not conveyed in the stories text could appear in other modalities such as image or music. This suggests a different way of storytelling in news media when distributed on this new platform.

Sexualbrottslagstiftningen har under de senaste tjugo åren varit föremål för tre statliga utredningar. I oktober 2016 presenterade 2014 års sexualbrottskommitté den senaste utredningen, vilken skickades ut på remiss i november samma år. Syftet med den här uppsatsen är dels att undersöka hur 2014 års sexualbrottskommitté och de svarande remissinstanserna kommunicerar sannolikhet och förpliktelse, dels att undersöka förhållandet mellan attityd och modalitet i remissvaren. Undersökningen utgår från den interpersonella metafunktionen i den systemisk-funktionella grammatiken (Halliday 2014) tillsammans med appraisalteorin (Martin & White 2005). Föremål för undersökningen är SOU 2016:60, Ett starkare skydd för den sexuella integriteten, samt de remissvar som hör till utredningen. Resultatet visar att utredningen och remissvaren följer samma mönster vad gäller fördelning av modalitetstyp och -grad men att remissvarens attityd påverkar fördelningen. Utifrån resultatet dras slutsatsen att olika val av modalitetstyp och -grad kan fungera som olika kommunikativa strategier. Låg grad av sannolikhet måste exempelvis inte betyda att sanningshalten är svag utan kan konstruera avsändaren som öppen för andras idéer och försvårar även möjligheten att förneka innehållet. Avsaknad av villighet behöver dessutom inte betyda att avsändaren saknar vilja. Villighet kan istället realiseras implicit genom förpliktelse. Därtill dras slutsatsen att positiv attityd minskar behovet av att modifiera satser, särskilt genom modalitetstypen sannolikhet.

AbstractThree organizing agentic modalities consistently occur, namely, individuals, relational groups, and collectives of various kinds. Digital augmentation transforms these modalities. Particularly, the infusion of artificial agency compresses traditional hierarchies and layers. It also strengthens organizing capabilities, enabling new agentic forms and functions. Yet human agency is likely to remain layered and relatively uncompressed. Therefore, augmented agentic modality could be either more fluid and flattened, or internally conflicted. This chapter examines these developments and highlights the changing nature of procedural habit and routine, as key mediators of agentic modality, mindful that habit forms the scaffold for individual personality, and collective routine for collectivity. When these patterns of action are digitalized, they become more dynamic and generative. Although here, too, risks and dilemmas emerge, regarding the potential divergence and convergence of agentic modalities.

RGB-Infrared (IR) cross-modality person re-identification (re-ID), which aims to search an IR image in RGB gallery or vice versa, is a challenging task due to the large discrepancy between IR and RGB modalities. Existing methods address this challenge typically by aligning feature distributions or image styles across modalities, whereas the very useful similarities among gallery samples of the same modality (i.e. intra-modality sample similarities) are largely neglected. This paper presents a novel similarity inference metric (SIM) that exploits the intra-modality sample similarities to circumvent the cross-modality discrepancy targeting optimal cross-modality image matching. SIM works by successive similarity graph reasoning and mutual nearest-neighbor reasoning that mine cross-modality sample similarities by leveraging intra-modality sample similarities from two different perspectives. Extensive experiments over two cross-modality re-ID datasets (SYSU-MM01 and RegDB) show that SIM achieves significant accuracy improvement but with little extra training as compared with the state-of-the-art.

RGB-infrared (IR) person re-identification is a challenging task due to the large modality gap between RGB and IR images. Many existing methods bridge the modality gap by style conversion, requiring high-similarity images exchanged by complex CNN structures, like GAN. In this paper, we propose a highly compact modality-aware style adaptation (MSA) framework, which aims to explore more potential relations between RGB and IR modalities by introducing new related modalities. Therefore, the attention is shifted from bridging to filling the modality gap with no requirement on high-quality generated images. To this end, we firstly propose a concise feature-free image generation structure to adapt the original modalities to two new styles that are compatible with both inputs by patch-based pixel redistribution. Secondly, we devise two image style quantification metrics to discriminate styles in image space using luminance and contrast. Thirdly, we design two image-level losses based on the quantified results to guide the style adaptation during an end-to-end four-modality collaborative learning process. Experimental results on two datasets SYSU-MM01 and RegDB show that MSA achieves significant improvements with little extra computation cost and outperforms the state-of-the-art methods.

Radiology installation is one of the supporting elements in a hospital whose primary function is to establish a diagnosis. Following its function, there are modalities of both ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. Understanding a primary modality that uses ionizing radiation is necessary to create patient safety. Several other health workers participate in carrying out a radiology modality using both ionizing and non-ionizing aircraft modalities. Relates to the use of radiology equipment in other installations, for example, urological surgery installations held by urological surgeons, orthopedic surgeons in central surgical facilities, neurosurgeons specializing in the use of surgical support C arms, heart and vascular specialists. Blood in the catheterization laboratory installation, as well as the supporting nurses in each of these rooms. Understanding radiation and the basics of protection to ensure the safety and security of radiation protection or radiation hazards that the use of these modalities may cause. Resumen
Utilizing multiple modalities to learn a good distance metric is of vital importance for various clinical applications. However, it is common that modalities are incomplete for some patients due to various technical and practical reasons in healthcare datasets. Existing metric learning methods cannot directly learn the distance metric on such data with missing modalities. Nevertheless, the incomplete data contains valuable information to characterize patient similarity and modality relationships, and they should not be ignored during the learning process. To tackle the aforementioned challenges, we propose a metric learning framework to perform missing modality completion and multi-modal metric learning simultaneously. Employing the generative adversarial networks, we incorporate both complete and incomplete data to learn the mapping relationship between modalities. After completing the missing modalities, we use the nonlinear representations extracted by the discriminator to learn the distance metric among patients. Through jointly training the adversarial generation part and metric learning, the similarity among patients can be learned on data with missing modalities. Experimental results show that the proposed framework learns more accurate distance metric on real-world healthcare datasets with incomplete modalities, comparing with the state-of-the-art approaches. Meanwhile, the quality of the generated modalities can be preserved.

[The final form of this paper was published in the journal Issues in Informing Science and Information Technology.] This longitudinal, quasi-experimental study investigated students’ cognitive personality type using the Myers-Briggs personality Type Indicator (MBTI) in Internet-based Online and Face-to-Face (F2F) modalities. A total of 1154 students enrolled in 28 Online and 32 F2F sections taught concurrently over a period of fourteen years. The study measured whether the sample is similar to the national average percentage frequency of all 16 different personality types; whether specific personality type students preferred a specific modality of instructions and if this preference changed over time; whether learning occurred in both class modalities; and whether specific personality type students learned more from a specific modality. Data was analyzed using regression, t-test, frequency, and Chi-Squared. The study concluded that data used in the study was similar to the national statistics; that no major differences in preference occurred over time; and that learning did occur in all modalities, with more statistically significant learning found in the Online modality versus F2F for Sensing, Thinking, and Perceiving types. Finally, Sensing and Thinking (ST) and Sensing and Perceiving (SP) group types learned significantly more in Online modality versus F2F.

With the increasing amount of multimedia data, cross-modality hashing has made great progress as it achieves sub-linear search time and low memory space. However, due to the huge discrepancy between different modalities, most existing cross-modality hashing methods cannot learn unified hash codes and functions for modalities at the same time. The gap between separated hash codes and functions further leads to bad search performance. In this paper, to address the issues above, we propose a novel end-to-end Deep Unified Cross-Modality Hashing method named DUCMH, which is able to jointly learn unified hash codes and unified hash functions by alternate learning and data alignment. Specifically, to reduce the discrepancy between image and text modalities, DUCMH utilizes data alignment to learn an auxiliary image to text mapping under the supervision of image-text pairs. For text data, hash codes can be obtained by unified hash functions, while for image data, DUCMH first maps images to texts by the auxiliary mapping, and then uses the mapped texts to obtain hash codes. DUCMH utilizes alternate learning to update unified hash codes and functions. Extensive experiments on three representative image-text datasets demonstrate the superiority of our DUCMH over several state-of-the-art cross-modality hashing methods.

Resumen
Person re-identification (Re-ID) is an important task in video surveillance which automatically searches and identifies people across different cameras. Despite the extensive Re-ID progress in RGB cameras, few works have studied the Re-ID between infrared and RGB images, which is essentially a cross-modality problem and widely encountered in real-world scenarios. The key challenge lies in two folds, i.e., the lack of discriminative information to re-identify the same person between RGB and infrared modalities, and the difficulty to learn a robust metric towards such a large-scale cross-modality retrieval. In this paper, we tackle the above two challenges by proposing a novel cross-modality generative adversarial network (termed cmGAN). To handle the issue of insufficient discriminative information, we leverage the cutting-edge generative adversarial training to design our own discriminator to learn discriminative feature representation from different modalities. To handle the issue of large-scale cross-modality metric learning, we integrates both identification loss and cross-modality triplet loss, which minimize inter-class ambiguity while maximizing cross-modality similarity among instances. The entire cmGAN can be trained in an end-to-end manner by using standard deep neural network framework. We have quantized the performance of our work in the newly-released SYSU RGB-IR Re-ID benchmark, and have reported superior performance, i.e., Cumulative Match Characteristic curve (CMC) and Mean Average Precision (MAP), over the state-of-the-art works [Wu et al., 2017], respectively.

Resumen
Logical systems containing knowledge and know-how modalities have been investigated in several recent works. Independently, epistemic modal logics in which every knowledge modality is labeled with a degree of uncertainty have been proposed. This article combines these two research lines by introducing a bimodal logic containing knowledge and know-how modalities, both labeled with a degree of uncertainty. The main technical results are soundness, completeness, and incompleteness of the proposed logical system with respect to two classes of semantics.

Resumen
Multimedia languages traditionally, they focus on synchronizing a multimedia presentation (based on media and time abstractions) and on supporting user interactions for a single user, usually limited to keyboard and mouse input. Recent advances in recognition technologies, however, have given rise to a new class of multimodal user interfaces (MUIs). In short, MUIs process two or more combined user input modalities (e.g. speech, pen, touch, gesture, gaze, and head and body movements) in a coordinated manner with output modalities . An individual input modality corresponds to a specific type of user-generated information captured by input devices (e.g. speech, pen) or sensors (e.g. motion sensor). An individual output modality corresponds to user-consumed information through stimuli captured by human senses. The computer system produces those stimuli through audiovisual or actuation devices (e.g. tactile feedback). In this proposal, we aim at extending the NCL multimedia language to take advantage of multimodal features.
