Nociceptive information is transmitted from the periphery to the cerebral cortex mainly by action potential (AP) conduction in nerve fibers and chemical transmission at synapses. Although this nociceptive transmission is largely inhibited at synapses by analgesics and their adjuvants, it is possible that the antinociceptive drugs inhibit nerve AP conduction, contributing to their antinociceptive effects. Many of the drugs are reported to inhibit the nerve conduction of AP and voltage-gated Na+ and K+ channels involved in its production. Compound action potential (CAP) is a useful measure to kn

Background: Pregnancy causes altered function of excitable membranes such as muscle and nerve, due to hormonal changes and edema. We failed to find any studies focusing on the issue of nerve conduction during pregnancy, in India. Thus present study aims to see the difference between nerve conduction parameters viz. motor and sensory conduction, in pregnant and non-pregnant women. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study carried out in randomly selected 30 pregnant women, of any age, in 28-40 weeks of gestation and age matched non-pregnant controls. We observed nerve excitations on bullfrog sciatic nerves by an optical stimulation using a Holmium YAG (Ho:YAG) laser with the laser power over 2.0 [W]. The laser power was higher the amplitude of the action potential was bigger. However, when the laser power over 10.0 [W], the laser gave damage to the sciatic nerve and the action potential decreased. Not only the action potential was evoked by the high temperature but also the sciatic nerve was damaged by an overlarge temperature. These results show the possibility that the single wavelength laser can use to position estimation of epileptogen

The Hodgkin-Huxley model of nerve pulse propagation relies on ion currents through specific resistors called ion channels. We discuss a number of classical thermodynamic findings on nerves that are not contained within this classical theory. In particular striking is the finding of reversible heat changes, thickness and phase changes of the membrane during the action potential. Data on various nerves rather suggest that a reversible density pulse accompanies the action potential of nerves. Here, we attempted to explain these phenomena by propagating solitons that depend on the presence of coop

Selective stimulation and conduction block of specific nerve fibers has been a major area of research in neuroscience. The potential clinical and neurophysiological applications have warranted reliable techniques for transiently blocking conduction through nerves. High Frequency Alternating Current (HFAC) waveforms have been found to induce a reversible and repeatable block in peripheral nerves; however the effect of these waveforms on the neural activity of individual fiber types is currently unknown. Understanding this effect is critical if clinical applications are to be pursued. This disse

Central white matter and peripheral nerves function by conducting action potentials, which rely on the presence of transmembrane potentials generated by ion gradients. The maintenance of these transmembrane potentials is the main energy-dependent process in the nervous system. In this thesis I investigated the ability of endogenous glycogen to support the energy requirements of nervous tissue and the role of lactate in this process. Glycogen in the CNS is located in astrocytes but is capable of supporting axonal conduction, implying axon-glial metabolic interactions. These interactions were in

Auditory physiology is nearly unique in the human body because of its small-diameter neurons. When considering a single node on one neuron, the number of channels is very small, so ion fluxes exhibit randomness. Hodgkin and Huxley, in 1952, set forth a system of Ordinary Differential Equations (ODEs) to track the flow of ions in a squid motor neuron, based on a circuit analogy for electric current. This formalism for modeling is still in use today and is useful because coefficients can be directly measured. To measure auditory properties of Firing Efficiency (FE) and Post Stimulus Time (PST),

Migraine is a debilitating neurological disorder that affects approximately 1 billion people worldwide. It is known that migraine is associated with the activity of the trigeminal nerve, therefore, many studies are aimed at studying changes in the activity of the meningeal nerve fibers. It is known that inflammatory processes accompanied by temperature rise are often accompanied by headaches. Therefore, we investigated the effect of temperature increase on trigeminal nerve activity. This article discusses the current state of neurointerface technologies, not limited to deep electrode approaches. There are new heuristic ideas for creating a fast and broadband channel from the brain to artificial intelligence. One of the ideas is not to decipher the natural codes of nerve cells, but to create conditions for the development of a new language for communication between the human brain and artificial intelligence tools. Theoretically, this is possible if the brain "feels" that by changing the activity of nerve cells that communicate with the computer, it is possible to "achieve
