<p class="TTPAbstract">The problems of production of copper-nicckel alloys ingots by semicontinuous casting method are analysed. The requirement of grain size refinement in cast alloys macrostructure is shown. It is necessary to reduce the probability of hot cracks formation and increase the fabricability of cast bars during plastic working. The reasonability of fine fraction of Ni-Mg-Ce master alloy application for inoculation of copper-nickel alloys is established. Abstract The paper explores the possibility of using a number of nickel alloys in multilayer coatings to decrease nickel consumption and preserve the functional effect of the coating. The following is proved by the graphical calculation technique using experimental data on the galvanic properties of the multilayer coating parts. Nickel-iron, nickel-phosphorus and nickel-tin alloy can be applied as a lower coating layer rather than semi-shiny, shiny or composite nickel. It is advisable to use a nickel-iron alloy as the middle (second) layer, and the concentration of iron depends on the composit

Copper–nickel alloys are widely applied in marine engineering due to their excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. This study investigates the effect of chromium (Cr) on the erosion–corrosion behavior of copper–nickel alloys through erosion–corrosion experiments. The results indicate that the alloy containing Cr exhibits enhanced erosion–corrosion resistance. The addition of Cr reduces the corrosion rate of the copper–nickel alloy from 0.206 mm/a to 0.060 mm/a. This improvement in corrosion resistance is mainly attributed to the formation of (Ni/Fe)3Cr phases, which enhance t

Cyclic voltammetry and linear stripping voltammetry measurements show that codeposition of nickel with ruthenium is possible below the potential value of nickel reduction. High-quality alloys containing nickel and ruthenium can be plated at cathodic potentials ranging from − 0.5 to − 1.0 V vs SCE. Deposited coatings were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The diffractograms obtained show that an inc

NiTi is the most commonly used shape memory alloy (SMA) and has been widely used for bio-medical, electrical and mechanical applications. Nickel rich NiTi shape memory alloys are coming into prominence due to their distinct superelasticity and shape memory properties as compared to near equi-atomic NiTi shape memory alloys. Besides, their lower density and higher work output than steels makes these alloys an excellent candidate for aerospace and automotive industry. Abstract The issue of hardness testing and nickel base alloys has been a contentious topic in the oil and gas community. In this paper we present the uses of hardness testing with respect to nickel base alloys with examples of limitations and applications. As hardness has historically been seen as a factor for predicting environmental cracking resistance of nickel base alloys, a literature assessment of slow strain rate data is presented examining the potential for a relationship between the hardness and the alloy’s resistance to environmental cracking. Resumen
Abstract Metal dusting is a catastrophic form of carburization which leads to pitting and grooves as the affected metal disintegrates into a mixture of powdery carbon, metallic particles, and possibly oxides and carbides. This high temperature carburization mode is not yet well understood and while relatively infrequent, can be economically disastrous when it does occur in large and complex chemical and petrochemical process streams. References in the literature show that all classes of heat resistant alloys are prone to metal dusting, given the necessary and specific environmental conditions.

Abstract High temperature heat exchangers require the use of oxidation and creep-resistant alloys. Austenitic stainless steels are often specified for reasons of cost, availability, and ease of fabrication. Water vapor, present in the exhaust gas as a by-product of combustion, has been shown to be detrimental to the elevated temperature oxidation resistance of common stainless steels. Increasing the amount of chromium and nickel in heat-resistant alloys appears to alleviate the risk of breakaway oxidation in air containing water vapor. Abstract Nickel-base (Ni-Cr-Mo) alloy corrosion coupons experience transpassive corrosion thinning at rates as high as 44 mpy (1.12 mm/y) in near-neutral chlorine dioxide pulp bleaching environments. It is believed that the molybdenum in the passive films on these 8-16% Mo-containing alloys is not stable in near-neutral media in the presence of strong oxidants such as ClO2. In this environment the nickel-base alloys resist crevice corrosion attack, unlike the stainless steels (Fe-Cr-Ni-Mo) and < 48 % nickel stainless alloys (Ni-Cr-Fe-Mo) containing less than 8% Mo which are susceptible

Abstract The excellent corrosion resistance of nickel-alloys has been put to good use in marine engineering for many years. Some applications, such as bolting, require high levels of strength as well as corrosion resistance. New high strength nickel-alloys and their weldments exhibit excellent resistance to hydrogen embrittlement and seawater corrosion. Solid solution nickel-based alloys such as alloy 686 (UNS N06686) obtain their strength through cold work. One consequence is that highly alloyed austenitic stainless steels, commonly welded with nickel-base fillers, will suffer preferential weld attack under these conditions. Abstract To operate profitably, modern refineries and petrochemical plants must run at high temperatures and pressures with a minimum of downtime for maintenance. Under the very demanding conditions of service, corrosion and thermal stress are potential problems. To combat these threats, high-performance materials of construction are required. Nickel-base alloys have been shown to offer reliable service for long periods of time resulting in high product output and low lifetime costs.
